A door to door salesman came by the place saying it's a free service to walk the yard to assess the condition of the trees. I was not particularly eager but he said they would assess and we can do it later. I researched them on Angie's list after talking to the salesman and was considering cancelling because of the experiences of some of the members. I was not impressed by the "arborist" they sent out. His card said "tree specialist" instead. He was telling me trees were sick, poking them with a pair of scissors, telling me how the diseases can transmit from one tree to the next, and they would be climbing it to maintain/trim using sanitized equipment. However he used the same scissors to poke all the trees. His estimate was (verbally) $1800 for 4 cedar trees, and I compared it with another Angie's review where 8 trees (+ bushes) went for $3500. He also said there would be a discount if we do it before next week.
Description of Work: Took half hour to walk the yard to look at the cedars, alders, japanese maples to assess their health. Free assessment set up by a door-to-door salesman the previous day.

We hired them on a whim because their arborist/salesman comes door-to-door and we had already been thinking of having the work done. I'm sure this is what they base most of their revenue on....it's an impulse buy. It just seemed easier for us to have them do it when "their crew would be in our neighborhood" rather than get a bunch of estimates first. They arrived sometime in the afternoon on the day they said they'd be around and did the job with their crew. They seemed to be very experienced loggers and did a fine job as well as cleanup and did the job carefully. Their business card says they are insured so that gave me piece of mind (I probably should've checked it out but I didn't). We were happy with their work and the prices seemed fair.
Description of Work: They removed 2 large pine/fir trees and thinned out another.

I didn't like the way their representative tried to scare us. He later called after we'd cancelled to ask if we were sure, that he was worried about our tree falling over and someone getting hurt. I think they should be sending certified arborists to look at their potential customers' trees.
Description of Work: They were in our area working on a neighbor's trees, and they knocked on our door and asked to schedule a time to give us an estimate. A couple days later, one of their men went around the property with my husband. He stated that he was not an arborist, but told us that a very large tree had to be taken out right away, because it was damaged and unstable, and for that one tree it would cost $2000. He scared us enough that we went ahead and scheduled to do the work, but then rethought that and cancelled. Two other companies came out, with certified arborists, and both told us that the tree, while it had some damage, was perfectly healthy and not in danger of falling over. A third company later told us that it actually is a rare wood tree, and knew a company that would actually pay us for it if we decided to take it out.

We had a door-to-door saleswoman stop by saying that Evergreen was in the area doing work, and looking for more work. I rarely respond to door cold calls like that, but this time, I really had a lot of work that needed doing, so set up an appointment for an estimate the next day. Palmer Bodin showed up for the estimate, and spent about 2 hours total walking through the extensive work to be done. He was very knowledgeable and personable. I wasn't thrilled with the high-pressure aspect where the estimate price was only good until he left, after which the price went up from $3500 to $4300 or so. I'd prefer an estimate that leaves me time for getting other estimates. That's the reason for marking professionalism down to a B, but it doesn't really surprise me. The work crew showed up a few days later, and methodically did all the items requested. I was very impressed with the speed at which they worked, taking about half a day for this largish job. I especially liked the careful work on the Japanese maples. They did an excellent job of cleaning up, and everything looks much better after the pruning.
Description of Work: Removed 5 cypresses, 5 large dead bushes, and about 5 half-dead overgrown bushes. Did a lower crown clear and cleared deadwood from 5 paper birches and 2 atlas cedars. Did a crown clear from a 50' cedar. Pruned and cleared deadwood from 2 apple trees, an ornamental cherry, 2 Japanese maples, and 2 ornamental bushes. Brought down several sucker trunks from a large alder, leaving two healthy trunks. Chopped up the larger wood into fire-pit sized chunks.

Joe came to bid the job and was very knowledgeable about the right way to do everything we needed. Bill and the team (Ivan, Chad, Cory and Vern) arrived on time and worked together like a well oiled machine. They were fast and accurate. They had no problem with some last minute changes and got them exactly right. Bill is highly skilled up in the tallest trees. He brought down 12 ft. lengths of the largest tree (42 inches in diameter) in a very narrow space exactly where intended leaving both deck and shed intact. From my first phone contact, each person was competent, clear and efficient. Joe's estimate was right on. Only things I would change, if we were to do this over, 1. have a video camera ready, their work is amazing to watch and to 2. specify a smaller size fior some of the chunks which are now a bit too big to move. First time used. I would use again. I got more than I paid for. It is a real experience to watch people who are so good at what they do.
Description of Work: Removed 7 trees, pruned 2 fruit trees, one Juniper and one cypress, topped 6 other trees, cleaned up and left cut wood to my specification.

The project will not be done by this company.
Description of Work: Robb Rennick came to give an estimate and plan the work. He was nice and seemed knowledgeable. We set a date for the work but asked that he send references. He promised to do so on Monday. On Wednesday, my husband called him to say he had not received the references. Robb said he had sent them that day. My husband said he had his email open and they were not there. Robb then yelled at my husband, called him an a-hole several times and said he didn't want to do business with him. My husband was stunned at this bizarre response and hung up. We're canceling the contract!

Set a time to have 2 trees removed and one tree trimmed. I was told the crew that would do the work would arrive by 12:30 PM. The tree crew did not arrive until 3:30PM. By the time the crew got started with the work it was already getting dark. The crew had to finish their work in the dark. This was an unsafe practice. Someone climbing a tree in the dark and the use of a chain saw in the dark. I was told by the person scheduling the work that the wood would be hauled away the same day. The crew forman said the crew does not do that. It was three plus days before someone came to haul the large pieces of wood away. I felt sorry for the crew because they had to work in the dark, but this kind of work should have been done in the daylight. Also the cleanup of the small debris was not done well because the crew had no light to see by. I had to do a lot of sweeping of sawdust and picking up branches the next day. Bottom line is the crew was professonal, but the person scheduling the work was lousy at his job.

They removed all the bushes and debris so they did a very good cleanup job. Everything was as promised. They came when they said they would, did an excellent job and the price was fair. They were also very timely and I was just quite happy with them. The gentleman who came out to do the quote was very professional and very helpful in discussing other elements in the yard and other trees the property that we might consider having work done on later. The crew that came out and did the job was great as well. I thought the price was fair and it was what we agreed to. I had heard before from other people in the area that it can be quite expensive because these are quite large trees and they do need some maintenance but their price seemed fair.
Description of Work: I used their service on May 12th. They center balanced dead wood and wind sailed one giant fir tree.

The "arborist", Ben, who evaluated our needs had told us that the 3 birch trees could be topped without any harm and included this in our original estimate and then charged us when we agreed to the work. Definitely a mistake on our part to pay upfront even though we were told our card would not be charged until the work was finished and we were satisfied.. The workmen were set up to arrive at 12 noon, but had finished a job early and just showed up at 10 before I was prepared for them to come. The head of the crew told me that it was not a good idea to top the birch after I went out to talk with him and brought it up. He called Ben, who then back-pedalled said that my husband and I had told him to do it and he had disagreed! When I told him he had to deduct money from the amount agreed on since they were only going thin the trees (less work), Ben said he would come and look the next day. The workers were professional and did what was expected, but after they had gone I realized they had not done a very good job shaping the plum tree as seen from the street side. I did sign off on the work that day because I felt that the workers had done a good job and their foreman had been helpful about the birches, I also expected Ben to come and evaluate the work, as he had promised. Ben never showed up and told my husband that I had agreed to a $200 deduction in the price when I had talked to him on the phone that day. After many unanswered phone calls between my husband and him, we had some money deducted, but were not satisfied. I had actually mentioned the not so good ratings this company had received on Angie's List at the time we decided to go with these people. I guess we should have paid more attention to this. I definitely don't recommend this company.

Two trees were not windsailed and the estimator will come to finish the job at $400/tree.
Description of Work: It was very expensive for the service performed. They were to windsail three tree's and did only one. Compared to 2 other bids they charged 2 times as much. The estimator said I did not need to have the other 2 trees wind sailed. They charge $400 per tree and the other bids charged $250/tree. There was miscommunication big time. I was told after the fact. The bid itself is ambigous...where the three tree are to be wind sailed.

Awesome! These guys are terrific! They arrived right on time. We went over the work order to be sure we agreed on what they were going to do. There was about 5 guys in the crew. They started @ 10:00am and were finishing up by 1:00! They took down the alder with no damage to anything around it and stacked the rounds neatly. The 2 maples trees were the trees I was a little concerned with; they are crucial to the landscape of our backyard. Maynard, the crew lead pruned the maples and did a fabulous job. They cleaned up their mess and left with the yard looking better than when they started. Kudos to a wonderful crew....great job guys!

I thought we were going to discuss several trees on the property and I was planning to ask about light pruning. The representative started off by asking lots of personal questions about my children, which surprised me. He asked me about their age, their gender, what school they go to, and where their bedrooms are in the house. The trees on our property are quite healthy, and when we started to talk about the trees, rather than give an assessment of the health of my trees, he provided a number of stories of trees falling on houses. I realized that I am more comfortable with a more neutral sales approach that focuses on the health of the tree without a lot of personal questions, so I did not ask for further proposals.
Description of Work: I agreed to an appointment from a door to door solicitation because I did have questions about several trees on my property. The sales experience made me uncomfortable so I did not pursue a bid.

There were 3 huge very big trees with a lot of dead wood. They tried not chop the trees but reshaped them. They cleaned up after themselves. They were quite professional. The crew knew what to do. They worked hard and were up on the tree for a long time but I think the price was expensive. They did the job well. They were responsive. Everything happened as scheduled and I have no complaints.

They called ahead to reconfirm date, showed up on time with a large-enough crew to get the work done promptly and on the same day. Since an estimate was never given, no work was done.
Description of Work: We had an appointment scheduled for an estimate. 45 minutes after the planned meeting time, we received a phone call stating that the representative had gone to the wrong house. He appologized and rescheduled for the following evening. The next evening, no one showed and we did not receive a phone call. We will not pursue this company further. I responded to a flyer in the mail. A representative came out to the rental house and gave me a bid, which I signed. After this, I realized the bid did not include a 10% discount that had been advertised in the flyer. I called the rep and he said he would talk to his boss. I waited over a month to hear from them to see if price could be renegotiated and that they were ready to begin work. When the rep never called, I made the (erroneous) decision that they were not interested in my job after all. I got a bid from another company. I left a message for the rep at Evergreen that I had hired another company since I had not heard from them. I got an extremely irate message that they were scheduled to come out the next day and that I was under contract. I left a message that I didn't want or expect them to come, that I couldn't be there, and that the trees were being retagged. I certainly didn't want anyone to start work without my being there to review, because there were a lot of trees and variety of things to be done to them. They came anyway. When I checked the next day, I found the two trees in the front satisfactorily pruned, the dead tree in back cut down as planned, 5 apple trees very minimally/unsatisifactorily serviced (one was actually still sticking through the fence), a huge dead tree limb left on the deciduous tree and no other pruning of that tree, and a pile of wood that I had expected they would haul away. The rep did not return countless messages I left him! After some weeks, I finally phoned and he picked up. He said he would take care of things, but again nothing ever happened, and he never returned subsequent calls! It was very weird. I finally talked to the manager and he said there had been problems with that rep promising things he should not have (like the wood removal) and that he would get someone out to finish the work. Someone did come get the wood and remove the dead tree limb, but no further work was done. I got on a first name basis with the secretary over the succeeding MONTHS because I was not going to pay the bill until the work was completed! Eventually I suggested she drop $200 from the bill and I would pay it. She accepted.

His estimate of $1800 to trim low branches of a bunch of trees seemed high, but it's the only estimate I got so far. He also just stops by instead of calling when he feels like seeing if he can get work from me. Very unprofessional.
Description of Work: The owner, Brad Effenberger, stopped by to give me an estimate on tree work after his employee made an appointment with me. His breath reeked of alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot, and his recommendations were so simple that I could have figured them out. I have a very large number of trees on my property, and know that he ignored major issues that should have been addressed. Needless to say, I would not hire him because he was drunk!
