They were punctual and professional. They did a nice job on the work around my home and cleaned up well. It did appear that they slacked off along the driveway, and did not give as much care as the other work.
Description of Work: They thinned my trees for heavy wind and to create a visual opening, and they did a good job with that. They also trimmed the trees along the driveway, and that work was not very good.

Difficult. Our neighborhood has restrictions on tree removal, requiring an arborist report for most removals. Unfortunately, these guys canvas a neighborhood resulting in a rash of tree removal requests. Our board finds Evergreen to be dishonest in their dealings with homeowners. They are not interested in preserving trees and consistently recommend unnecessary removals.
Description of Work: This company is dishonest and pushy. They represent themselves as arborists, but they are not. They recommend tree removal and wind sailing when it is not necessary. When I got a second opinion from a certified arborist, they recommended preserving the trees not removing them. And the wind sailing they push can cause an imbalance in a grove a trees(causing trees to fall) and compromise the overall health of a tree(reducing it's ability to gather nutrients and creating wounds for disease, causing a slow death). Evergreen seems most concerned with keeping their crews busy REMOVING trees, even when there is no reason to do so. I would NOT trust them. If you have trees that are already down or obviously leaning over a structure, they might be okay used in a clean up capacity. But don't have them advise you on the health of your trees. Guaranteed they will remove something even if it doesn't need to be removed. There are many other respected companies out there. This is not one of them.

Response from Evergreen Tree Care
We are the largest tree preservation company in the industry for our area; with several certified arborists on staff. I would suggest having our regional director for your area visit with you to discuss your experience. If we have someone not representing the company well we need to know and rectify the situation.

A man (Gary) came to my to my door representing Evergreen Tree Care. He made a bid for $750 to do some general trimming and clean up. He asked for, and I gave him a 10% down payment of $75. This was contrary to my better judgment, but he seemed like a personable man and I needed the job done. The work was scheduled a week later and the crew arrived about noon. They took one look at the job and announced that they would need to go back and get their chipper. Easy tool to forget, I guess! They said that they would be right back. That was the last I heard from them…no phone call, nothing. Later that evening I called Gary and explained what had happened. He sounded apologetic and said he would be right over. It was dark when he arrived, but he took his chain saw and cut up a small shrub that been damaged by the ice storm. This took all of about ten minutes, but it indicated to me that his heart was in the right place, especially since he appeared to be man in his fifties who required a cane. The work was rescheduled another week later, but when the crew arrived at my door, I was informed that one of the workers (Brad) was sick to his stomach and that they would have to reschedule again. The reader is free to speculate on the underlying cause of this infirmary! I waited another week and nothing. I finally had enough of this bunch, so called the office to cancel. The nice lady pointed out that, according to the contract, I would have to forfeit the down payment since more that 72 hours had passed since the contract was signed. I explained what had happened and she said that she would talk to Gary and get back with me. That was the last I heard from Evergreen Tree Care. My advice is to use these folks at your own peril. I learned a $75 lesson. It could have been worse.

Following the 2012 Storm, I had them back to evaluate the trees, and we determined there was one large tree not worked on prior that will need to come out due to breakage and proximity to my home. The Arborist I dealt with on both occasions (Gregg) was very pleasant and professional. He obviously has a passion for trees and really seems to know his stuff. This tree removal and cut down to firewood size, plus debris removal cost me $ 500.00. I feel this was a fair price for the work done.
Description of Work: I had them trim and thin the trees in my large front yard in the late summer of 2010, and those trees came through without problem in the big snow and ice storm of 2012. The crew doing the work were polite, prompt and through, and cleaned up the residual mess afterwards.

The initial work date was January 20, but this had to be postponed due to the snowstorm that hit Seattle. The work was rescheduled for January 28. The crew showed up on time and introduced themselves. Mark verified the work that was to be done and the crew got busy. I stayed to see the first trees pruned then left to run an errand.my wife stayed home and did the walk through when they were done, about a two and a half hour job. She was more than satisfied with the work (as was I when I got home) and the yard was left in better condition than when they started. Before they left, each member of the crew came over to my wife and thanked her for giving them the business. We are both happy with the work that was done and the crew that came out. I fully expect that the trees will be better able to handle the winds that we get with less blow down than we have experienced the past few years.
Description of Work: A company rep told my wife they were working in the area and asked if we wanted to have someone come out and give us a bid on doing some work. We have over a half dozen large trees on our property that are about 100 years old and have lost about that many over the years due to disease and blow down. They gave us an estimate for cleaning up 6 trees, reducing wind sail and removing the dead limbs. The estimate was in our price range and we received a discount for signing at that time.

They solicited in this area last week and they came and gave estimates. Their estimate was lower than any of the other estimates I had gotten. They cleaned up pretty good. I had to go for a doctor's appointment, so most of the work was done while I was gone. I didn't even know that they were coming today. They had told me that they would be coming sometime this week but they showed up ahead of time. I only talked to a couple of them and they seemed fine.

They were a very good crew. They worked together very well. I was there to oversee the job and they did exactly as described in the estimate. They cleaned up after themselves. They operated in a safe manner and were down the road in 3+ hours. The only complaint that I might have made was a few branches that were left on the roof of my shed and a large alder branch they left in front of the shed instead of in the wooded area behind it. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: I came into contact with the company when a representative came to my door because they were in the neighborhood. I don't normally deal with door to door solicitors but I have a number of large trees on my property and had been looking for an arborist to take care of them. I agreed to have someone come out a few days later to give me an estimate on the cost and safety of the work that I wanted done. Jardin Wood came out and we went through in detail all trees to be downed, trimmed and which ones I wanted chipped and which ones I wanted left where they fall. A Crew of 5 came out the following Monday. They took out one section of a large maple that was dying and leaning towards the house. taking it down in sections. Most of the branches fell in the heavily wooded valley below. I asked if they could fall the large base of the section on the lawn where I could drag it to my woodshop to us for woodworking. The arborist was very good at placing each section just where he wanted them. They trimmed a very large cedar tree up about 12' to open the natural area below. They had to drag the branches up a steep slope to chip. They took one large branch off a plum tree and chipped. The took out a 20' Bigleaf maple and chipped. They trimmed the large cedars up 12' on the edge of the driveway for large trucks to get by. They also took out 3+ alders that were leaning over a shed I had. This gave them the most trouble. All in all, a lot of work was done for a very reasonable price.

When we bought this house, we failed to notice the very large limb (dead) hanging precariously over the house. When Evergreen called to offer an estimate we jumped at it. The price quoted initially was a tad high, but they worked with us to reduce it down to a more reasonable figure. The crew that performed the job were punctual, professional, and efficient. The only issue at all was the dead limb got out of their control and fell. Fortunately it didn't hit the real house, just the bird house (completely destroyed). The crew offered to replace it, however it was very old and dilapidated anyway, so we refused. Very happy with this company.
Description of Work: We have a very large (greater than 150' tall) pine tree in the front yard that needed to be sailed, have a few dead limbs removed, and have the ivy that was growing up it taken care of.

Terrible experience. False promises. No call back when I called to talk with the manager. I was made to feel like the problem even when they cancelled 3 times and totally screwed up a cedar pruning. I actually moved some of my shrubs in my garden to give them more room to work and even then I was made to feel like my garden was of no consequence. Brandon was the only one of all these employees that gave me the impression he was trying to do the right thing for me, the customer.
Description of Work: Gaven came out in June, gave us an estimate for work to be done in October. I called to schedule and set it up. 1st job had to be cancelled because they couldn't guarantee the job wouldn't mess up my garden, apparently it was too windy. The problem was they made it seem like it was my problem. Gaven even said in a phone message "I understand you are being picky about your shrubs". 1st Cancel. Rescheduled and found out it couldn't be done because Gaven didn't get the right permits. 2nd cancel on the day of service. Rescheduled. Now day 3, cancelled again because Gaven still hadn't gotten the permit. I was told by his supervisor, Brian that he would now be handling the job. Finally after 3 cancels the job was scheduled and done. But, who shows up at the door. Gaven. Not Brian, who said he'd be handling the job. OK, now a Brandon is there to supervise. He is late, but seems motivated to do a really good job. His crew for the most part does fine with take down 2 large trees, windsail 2 and clean up a few others. Also Brandon did a prune of a japanese maple and did fine, but one of his crew obviously didn't know what he was doing and completely stripped the 1 side of a gorgeous cedar and left the other 3/4 alone. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! Totally screwed up the look of a fabulouse cedar tree. Brandon's response "I don't know why he would do this, I don't know what to say" Where was the supervision of this guy??? I was told I would have an evaluation form left at my door, but after the cedar tree, I saw no evaluation form. Apparently they didn't want to hear it! If you dare even get these folks to do a job for you do not leave them alone to prune anything!!! Also plan on a lot of excuses and false promises.

Due to price I decided not to use this company.
Description of Work: The company was very responsive both in person and on the telephone. The arborist was professional but a selling machine. They quoted $1900.00 to take out 3 trees. They didn't even need to take the rounds! I found several other certified/bonded and insured company's that were less than half that price.

They had good service. They over pruned one tree, but it wasn't as bad as we had thought it was. Once spring came, it leafed out and didn't look as bad. The tree had been topped so it was already misshaped. Overall their service turned out just fine. They were nice guys.

Someone came to our front door unsolicited letting me know a tree consultant would in our neighborhood the next day and asked if I wanted them to come by for an evaluation and estimate. Our neighbors had contacted them, so I agreed. Jardin arrived a little early for the appointment and was very thorough in walking the property and discussing any concerns. He provided an estimate and said they could do the work next week and that it would be completed in one day. The crew arrived on schedule and did a great job. I usually compare estimates with two or three contractors, but under these circumstances I did not do this. The price seemed fair and they did a fine job of completing the project as agreed. Does anyone need firewood???
Description of Work: Evergreen Tree Care cut down two large trees and deadwooded/windsailed two other large trees in our front yard. Also, they cut the trees into rounds as agreed. All limbs were run through a chipper and hauled off.

I really felt quite bullied, by Glenn Simpson, into hiring this company after being threatened that I would be charged 10% of the estimate for not canceling 24 hrs after signing the quote. I did decide to hire them after Glenn reduced the price by two thirds to match my other quotes. The trees were in close proximity to the house & although, there was some damage to the fench, gutters & the siding, the crew did a good job . I was absolutely horrified to find out that the crew lead, who showed up on a Sunday (because it was not to be done on company time) to do some repair work was also financially responsible for hiring someone to repair the siding. These were not subcontractors, but employees of Evergreen.

Somone had come to my front door unsolicited letting me know my a tree consultant would in my neighborhood that week and asked if I wanted them to come by and do an estimate for me too. I said yes since I had called a different arborist for work, but never got an estimate and had kind of given up on the idea. Jeff, the tree consultant, arrived a little early for the appointment and was very throurough in walking through the property and discussing my concerns. He wrote up an estimate and said they could be there in 3 days to do all the work and that it would be completed in one day. The crew arrived on the work day on time, which really impressed me as I don't have great luck with people doing work at my house showing up on time. They were polite and worked efficiently and also did a great job with clean up. I was unsure about some of the work afterwards and called Jeff who came over to my house immediately to review with me. He was kind enough to agree to have someone come back out and do a little more small trim work. A couple weeks later a dude shows up to do it. I wasn't expecting him to show up when he did, but whatever, I had thought they forgot about it so was happy he showed up. He also offered to haul away the branches of a small shrub I had recently cut down. Overall - Jeff was great to work with. He followed up with me in a timely manner and listened attentively to my concerns. The crew was polite, efficient and did a decent job cleaning up after themselves. It's tough to find a contractor who follows through on what they say, but Jeff and his crew with Evergreen Tree Service did it all so a huge kudos and thank you!
Description of Work: They cut down 3 large trees from my front yard, 1 large tree from my back yard, 1 small tree from the back yard, deadwooded/windsailed 3 trees and cleaned up a maple. They also trimmed down some unruly bushes near one of the trees they windsailed and deadwooded. I also requested they leave the wood which they cut into 16 inch rounds for me

A salesman came to my door and indicated that an arborist would be in my neighborhood and asked if I wanted a free consultation. I was already thinking about having my trees worked on and hadn't looked into it so I agreed. About a week later I met with the arborist who was very throrough and spent an hour or so with me, which was much longer than I expected and I had dinner plans that evening. He made a hard sell, limited time offer, I pushed back, he cut the price and we agreed to only do the safety-related work, then he offered to do the rest for an addition grand. I signed on the dotted line as I rushed out the door and have been uncomfortable with that decision ever since. I called to ask for an itemized estimate and he pushed back and instead came to my house that Saturday to discuss with me for another hour. I never got the itemized estimated. The day of the work, the team arrived promptly, discussed the work with me, protected ground plants and were finished in about 4 hours. They did a great job both the trimming and the clean up. They didn't use spikes to climb the trees as promised, but they also didn't rope down any branches which was pitched as one of the expenses. In a nutshell, I was pleased with their work and if I had done some dilligence and gotten an itemized estimate and a competitive estimate and founds that their prices were reasonable (I wasn't looking for the lowest cost bid), I would have been much happier with the process overall. I never received ANY of the followup such as a call from the company to discuss my satisfaction with the work, etc.
Description of Work: Evergreen trimmed and performed crown & windsale reduction on approxiamtely 10 trees including two Birch trees, a 100ft douglas fir, a 50+ft Cedar, a Sitka Spruce, an apple tree, and japanese maple, and three holly trees. They also cross tied two trunks together on two trees.

The arborist was friendly and seemed knowledgeable. I wasn?t completely pleased with the final product. There were a few things that were left half done by the crew and there were a lot of plants that were damaged. That was my main complaint. There has been no followup from the arborist. Like many other Angie reporters, I came into contact with the company when a representative came to my door because they were in the neighborhood. I don't normally deal with 'door to door solicitors but I have a number of large firs on my property that make me a bit nervous in wind storms so I agreed to have someone come out the next day to give me a free survey of the fir safety issues and a free estimate for any work that I might want. The representative, Gregg, arrived on time the next day and is an arborist and a botonist. He was very personable, patient and comprehensive in his comments. He gave me the estimate of $1400 plus tax which I accepted and he was to call me to set up an appointment. I planned to work from home on the day the work would be performed because I have learned the hard way to be present when any type of work is done for me. However, when I returned home from work the following Monday, they had been there and completed the work although not all of the wood was removed as agreed. Gregg had left his card and when I called, he explained that he had left a message for me on voice mail that they would be out Monday & inviting me to contact him if that was not acceptable. (I had not received the message so he apparently left it at the wrong number.) He was surprised that all of the wood had not been removed and promised to see that it was taken care of. He had been out to my house with the workers but had left before all was completed. The next day, he and one of their trucks were at my house when I got home, but they found that there was too much wood left for them to handle with the truck that had been out on another job. He again apologized for the delay and promised to see that it was taken care of soon. Two men (apparently contracted) came out the next evening and removed all of the wood. Again, their appearance was a surprise because they had called the wrong number and received no answer. All of the work was completed as agreed and I did like working with Gregg. As a woman, I sometimes feel as though I am being somewhat patronized when dealing in home services but I felt very comfortable and confident in Gregg's assessments and integrity. I gave them a 'B' in professionalism only because of the wood removal issues. (I have since noticed that the phone number that they had for me on the contract was incorrect so the appointment notification issues could have been avoided if I had carefully checked the contract.)
Description of Work: Windsail & deadwood removed on 3 very tall firs. Removed one large fir that was too close to the house. 'Shaped' and reduced size of large lilac. Removed 2 dogwoods (one about 2 stories hight). They removed all debris (wood included).

We used to have a beautiful view of Lake Sammamish when we moved into this house 22 years ago, but the downhill neighbors trees have gradually grown to block that, so we had only a peek-a-boo view left. In years past, we've negotiated to have our downhill neighbor's trees topped, which only leads to accelerated tree blockage in a couple of years, since the neighbors have been reluctant to totally remove the trees. Our view is controlled by at least three downhill neighbors, so this has always been a tricky negotiation. In the beginning of this years tree trimming exercise, I was planning on doing only my own trees, but thanks to Evergreen's persistent sales representative (Mike Trillo), the neighbor's were convinced to totally remove the trees that block our view. This took several face-to-face visits and phone calls between Mike and my neighbors to accomplish this task. An important part of this exercise was also recommending replacement dwarf trees that will not grow to block our view again. In the end, we have our view back and with the replacement trees, we are not in the loop of doing this every 2-3 years, so this will be mostly a one-time cost. I have never had a tree service go "above and beyond" by negotiating with my neighbors as Evergreen Tree Care has done... a key feature of why I will use them again and recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Two 100+ ft trees windsailed in my yard. Two Large Photinias removed (one in my yard, one in downhill neighbors) The remaining tasks were in my downhill neighbor's yards: Four 75 ft pine trees removed One 100ft cedar tree removed One 50ft maple removed One plum tree removed One plum tree topped One stump ground One rhododendron trimmed.

Maple trees keep growing even when they are rotting out in the middle. I needed a few trimmed in my yard, including a widow-maker branch waiting to drop on someone. They did a great job not only in cleaning up the trees, but also in removing the branches and protecting the plants that could have been crushed. They didn't have a city permit the first time they visited, so they came back with it later and took out the half dead trees. I will recommend them to friends and to my clients.

The person who came out was fine and he was going to give me a discount. He was nice enough although he sensed my hesitation. I told him that I would talk to my husband and get back to him the next day. He told me that he would call me in about three weeks if he didn't hear from me, so it looked like he was staying on top of it. He knew that I was hesitant and probably needed time. I thought that was nice. I hope he doesn't persist after that if I decide not to use them. He was pretty good. I gave him a hard time in the beginning because the person who came to my house had said that a woman would come out. I like dealing with females because I have been taken advantage of.
Description of Work: Evergreen Tree Care gave us a quote on cutting down some branches off some huge evergreens because there was a lot of dead wood and getting them pruned.

Overall it went excellent. Paul had really good recommendations and walked us through everything. They did everything they said they were going for the important work the actual day of the cutting and were really professional. The place looked fantastic and the neighbors were impressed. The only minor thing was they were going to have someone take the wood from the trees they chopped down and it has been 6 weeks since the service was done and those logs are still there. Trying to get someone back out has been a little difficult. But I would not let this stop anyone from hiring. The actual work was fantastic.
Description of Work: We had about 8 trees thinned out (large 50-60 foot pine trees), we had 2 large trees and one small tree taken out.
