Nw Sewer & Drain

A couple weeks ago we had a sewer line back-up and overflow of raw sewage into our basement. We had one of the big national franchisees come out to unclog the pipe. They said they couldn't snake it out and needed to hydrojet it. After doing so we had a crew come clean up the basement and then the national company came back to video the pipe. After a couple of minutes they wrote us an estimate and told us it would cost more than $14,000 to line the pipe, which they recommended. We wanted additional estimates and found NW Sewer and Drain on Angie's List. I talked with Robert. After a house visit and reviewing the video of the pipe, Robert recommended that we hydrojet the pipe again to get it truly clean because it was poorly done the first time and that in fact he didn't believe it needed to be lined. He and a technician named Josh came to the house and spent the afternoon thoroughly cleaning the pipe from multiple angles. The video of the pipe after NW Sewer and Drain cleaned it was night and day better than the other company. I think it takes a lot of integrity to do a job like they did where it felt like — and in fact they did — search for and find the solution that was best for our family financially. NW Sewer and Drain saved us a lot of money and I know from the video we received fantastic service from two very professional representatives of the company. They have a customer for life in my family. We live on a street with old homes and have already shared our story with our neighbors who run into similar issues. NW Sewer and Drain runs a business with integrity and professionalism. I couldn't recommend them higher.

They were unable to find the cause, but made several suggestions. I had the city water come out about an hour later. They found the problem in 5 minutes, and I was able to fix it. The company only did assessment and then recommended that we contact a plumber for any work which they could only give some possible reasons for. I would have been way ahead by contacting the city water department first, and it wouldn't have cost me. Since they were called Northwest Sewer and Drain, I asked about possibly coming back for a sewer cleaning. The response was to go to someone like Roto Rooter as their equipment was too big for my drains. They did recommend a good plumber for a toilet reseating that I did use.

Things went pretty much as expected. We had a water backup into the house and have had issues with tree roots in our sewer lines in the past. Spencer was on time and explained to us exactly what he saw in the sewer line. He even showed us that there was a spot in the line where a gasket was intruding into the sewer line and should be repaired in the near future. Spencer made everything easy for us and we would definitely use their service again in the future.

After having a sewer scoping completed by another company, it was found that there were massive tree roots in the side sewer leading to the main city sewer line. After locating the area of the block, it was determined that it could possibly be in the right of way, which only certain contractors can work on. Since this was a shared line with my neighbor, we both called on several contractors for estimates. I was referred to NW Sewer and Drain from the original contractor that did my sewer scoping as well as a plumbing company that I used many times in the past. Tom came out to give the estimate. He called and was able to arrive early and scope out where the problem was. He asked my neighbor and I what exactly we wanted to do and we told him that we not only wanted it cleaned out (jetted), but that we wanted it fixed so we wouldn't have to deal with it for another 50 years. He then wrote us a detailed estimate that included digging 7 feet down to expose pipe, jet the tree roots out and then reline the existing pipe all the way from the wye (where my neighbor's pipe and our pipe joined) to the city main. We told Tom we were waiting on several other estimates and that we would get back to him. He said that they would be willing to match another price within reason. After receiving the other estimates, and conferring with our neighbor, we called NW Sewer and Drain back. Out of the 4 estimates we received, they happened to be the lowest, but we honestly went with them because they seemed to be the most thorough and really know what they were talking about. Also they are a small company, and I would rather give my business to a close knit group than a company that has different people all over the place (i.e. more ways to mis-communicate). I spoke with Jennifer and was able to set up our work for the following Thurs. Thurs would be digging the hole and jetting it out, Friday would be the lining, and Monday would be the inspection and back-fill. Thursday came and Ryan (and Josh?) came out to dig the hole and jet the line. They were there all day and were more than happy to talk with myself and neighbor about how things were going. They made sure to keep most of the work on my side to hopefully salvage a tree on my neighbors side. They put a couple of pieces of wood down and kept all the dirt on there so as to keep it in one place and not make a mess. Friday, Spencer and wife/husband team (forgot their names) came to do the lining. We were without sewer for just around 4 hours so the lining could set up, but Spencer came by at the end to let us know when we could finally use it. Monday came and Ryan and Josh came back to do some last minute piping. Unfortunately, they could not get a hold of the inspector, so they could not back fill. They came back Tuesday and back filled. Wednesday, Spencer and Josh came back again and compacted the dirt and cleaned up. NW Sewer and Drain did a great job. All the crew were very personable and professional. They all knew their jobs and were helpful and knowledgeable whenever we had questions. The only slight thing to comment on was some of the timing. I had been told work was to start between 9 and 10 and only after I called the office was I able to get an update. Once I called, I had no problems getting the information, I just felt they could have done a slightly better job of keeping me in the loop on time frames. Even so, they were able to get everything completed within the day they said, so nothing was pushed back because of it.

Spencer, the owner, and Ryan came out to my house to inspect the sewer line and determine if there were any issues with it. I was contemplating the need to dig in an area on my property where I thought the line might be, so I needed a locate of the line to ensure there would be no problems. Although there was an initial inspection of the line which appeared to indicate a belly in the line, Spencer's inspection found no indication that any portion of the line needed to be replaced, but was in good shape. I had him also clean out the line since grease had built up on the front end due to earlier activity by previous owners. I have learned that no greasy food or oil should be put down the drain. Spencer also told me that I should be sure to flush clean water through the system weekly so that solids would be pushed out to the main since my line was well over 100 feet long. I really appreciate the good work Spencer and Ryan did while doing the inspection and cleaning. I really like the fact that Spencer made sure I understood what I should and should not do to keep the line in good shape. It is not an area of home ownership that I have ever spent any time thinking about, yet it is a critical system that must be taken care of by every occupant. Now that it is on my radar, I plan on doing my best to be extra careful with all my plumbing, sewer, and water systems, and having future inspections as a routine part of my home maintenance. Thanks to Spencer, I feel better prepared to make good decisions about what should and should not be disposed of in this way. Now, all fat and greasy foods go into my regular waste can, other leftover foods are recycled in my green waste can, and during the summer months I compost green waste that breaks down quickly so I have home made compost to feed to my plants.

I sent several emails out to sewer line providers on Angie's list after another plumber said he hydrojetted my sewer line but got as far as out into the middle of the street and ran into something, that he just couldn't be sure what it was. The line was flowing but he later made a comment about, "need to conserve water use". I didn't know what to make of it and couldn't get him to explain any further. Jennifer from the office of NW Sewer & Drain quickly responded (within a day) by email, then phone. She was very sympathetic and helpful and made me feel good about this company right away. She helped to schedule an appointment in a few days for someone to look at my line. There was no service charge or anything. She had talked to a couple of other people at the company, Ryan, then Spencer and they agreed to take a took for free and would only charge if I decide to get additional work done. Long story short, Tom first arrived, as scheduled and saw a problem right away: water still in the line. In order to deal with the current problem as well as to get to the bottom of what's been going on, he recommended hydrojetting the line again. After what I went through before, I was a bit scared and he reassured me that with their industrial grade hydrojetter, it will get the line cleared and help figure out the problem. Sure enough, he called in Spencer (the owner) and I believe (?Chris. sorry I didn't get his card) with a large machine and started working on it. The three of them worked hard as a team, and at the same time, communicated well with me so I could understand what was happening At the end, instead of bidding for a major excavation and sewer replacement job, Spencer recommended that I talk to the City next because the problem lies within the City's line. This explained so much why the other contractor was marking the troubled spot right in the middle of the street where the City's main sewer line runs. Instead of offering me more services or giving me a bid for a high priced excavation job, he gave an honest, sound advice to an home owner in distress. This company was looking out for its customer, and that's a very honorable thing to do.

Spencer has completely earned his top A+ Angie's List ratings and reputation. We made a big mistake in NOT checking Angie's List in the first instance of panic, when we had our first sewer back-up ever in our 43 years of owning this old home. Fortunately, after Beacon Plumbing (the most heavily advertised and biggest sewer & plumbing rip-off company in Western Washington) came out, did a wrongful assessment of our sewer line problem and cause of the back-up, and had begun work, we cancelled the project with Beacon and waited for Spencer of NW Sewer & Drain to come give us a second opinion of the cause of the back-up. Spencer is the owner/operator of his business, extremely knowledgeable and experienced with all sorts of sewer line issues and repairs, and totally honest and an excellent communicator about what is needed and what the options are for getting the work done. In addition, he provided us with FULL support in documenting his professional opinion about the failure of Beacon to diagnose our problem, and Beacon's having us enter into a contract for work which was not necessary, and not the first priority for dealing with a residential sewer back-up. We plan to hire Spencer (NW Sewer & Drain) to return in the coming year, to do the COMPLETE relining of our sewer line, which has been under control based on his maintenance work done 18 months ago, and based on his advice about how to minimize sewer back-ups in the interim before we are able to go ahead with the big job of relining. We can't recommend this contractor highly enough.

I had water backing up out of the guttering down pipes in periods of heavy rain, and was unable to locate and identify the cause. I emailed 4 companies on Angies List asking for a quote or response, using each company's own website to leave a message. Only NW Sewer & Drain responded, and the operator called me very shortly afterward and offered to come by and look at the problem, which he did, and gave me an estimate of likely cost, though making it clear he could not guarantee to solve the problem. A visit was scheduled once I had decided to go with NW Sewer & Drain, I only had to wait 2-3 working days before the work could be done. The operator came back out and solved the problem, identifying and clearing a blockage in the drain and making sure that all drains emptied freely. The service from NW Sewer was professional, and effective. I have no hesitation in recommending the company.

Report from my parents is that Ryan was "competent, thorough, skilled, efficient, friendly and kind." We are very happy with the service and will definitely us NW Sewer and Drain again! Thank you!

They were out in June. I would tell others that they were great. They were great at explaining things. They were very very fast.

The service was fine and the one suggestion that I would give to them is that if they are going to do the service they should put in rid-x which is a root killer. It is pretty inexpensive and it would really help their customers out. I would only give a B as I really cannot see inside the sewer pipe and I had to call to get the recording of the sewer line. I think that it would be nice #1 if they were to call and let their customers know that the job was done and everything was good or not and then also to send the video more promptly. The company was on time and they did what they said they would so I am happy. I would find out what other companies are charging for the same service beforehand in the future.

I couldn't be happier with the service received from NW Sewer and Drain today! We woke to a flooding toilet and what we thought was a blocked line into the house. Spencer picked up my 7:30am phone call and Ryan was at my door by 9am. He assessed the situation, took a look at the septic, and cleared a blocked septic trap within minutes. I was thrilled at the prospect of just looking at a service call fee instead of earlier fears of charges for snaking and/or repairing broken lines. Imagine my surprise when Ryan told me not to worry about paying for his visit ... THRILLED to not only have water and toilets functioning properly again but GRATEFUL to have happened upon such a nice guy and quality company. Will call NW Sewer and Drain for any plumbing needs in the future and highly recommend them to anyone needing their services. Thank you Ryan and Spencer!

We had a couple of bids done on the job. I chose NW because of the care taken with the bid. The other companies came out measured and walked away the NW representative took the time to talk to me and explain what would be done what type of material would be used. NW was a tad higher but because they took the time to educate me during the bid process I chose them. The job did not go as any of had planned, the ground was much harder than anticipated and much rockier, but NW took all the challenges in stride and addressed all the issues timely and professionally. The job took longer than we thought but I am very happy with the final outcome. I am not sure if any other company would have handled all the challenges in such a professional manner. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. Also a very helpful office staff too.

Prompt response to clogged drain that was backing up into the basement (couldn't use kitchen until fixed) Bought the coupon and called. They were prompt, figured out that it was a grease clog, fixed it and made some recommendations to prevent it from happening again. Would hire again.

Provider seemed to be in a hurry to finish.

They showed up on time and were very flexible as visual inspection determined the main sewer pipe was not an issue. They then switched to hydro jetting the smaller internal drains

He was running a bit late due to length of time at previous stop but notified me in advance of the situation - this was great because I was also running late so was able to adjust my schedule accordingly. So great marks for communication. I was given a comprehensive review of the sewer situation and my questions were answered. I was encouraged to get other estimates before making a final decision (which I have not yet done) so I did not feel pressured to purchase services. He also explained that other plumbing issues existed that were outside the scope of the services offered by their company and provided information on how to find an appropriate service provider to deal with the non-sewer issues and gave me a rough idea on what to expect. He even went the extra mile and tightened up a leaking joint under my utility sink - bless him. Forgot to mention this was all after tackling and successfully opening an ancient sewer access that probably had not been opened in over 50 years. When I do finally decide on a company to do the sewer repair - NW Sewer and Drain will be a top contender.

The package I brought was for sewer pipe flushing but after he inspected it, he told me that he saw no reason to flush the pipe as it might cause damage to the pipe. He cleaned the floor afterward.

Great advice and game me leads to a company that did the job for half the cost of anyone else!!

Our sewer line was backing-up and as property deacon at our church on a Sunday. During the month of June, we host a Men's Shelter Program (for homeless men) and had 35 men using our church. Needless to say, I had a national company come-out and clear the line and it cost me about $550 for a min of one hour (it took about 20 min for the guy to clear the line). The next day, this same company for "free" sent a guy out to put a camera down the line and he informed us that we "had a belly" and it would cost about $4000 to replace about a 5 foot section of sewer pipe that was sagging. This guy said it looked like there were also tree roots but the first problem was the "belly". A friend of mine encouraged me to use Angie's List (and I was like "doh! what was I thinking?"). So I had 3 top rated Sewer companies come out. The first two came-out and I sent them a copy of the video from the original company. The presented bids (one was lower than the original and one was higher) and both of these had an opportunity to see the original video. But the third one was Spencer Chynoweth from NW Sewer. After Spencer heard the whole story, he said he wanted to run a camera down the line and see for himself. He proceeded to run his camera a 150 feet and very carefully and methodically inspected the situation. He pointed-out that the real issue was tree roots and that there was NO BELLY! Spencer explained the options and I was sold. This guy was competent and a straight shooter. We scheduled a time about two weeks later and he got the job done in a timely and professional manner.

Provided a free estimate, several hundred dollars lower than the competition. Very professional, courteous, and the work was completed within 3 days of my first contact. Complete clean up after the job was also appreciated.

I found NW Sewer to be easy to work with from the estimate all the way until final payment. They were always punctual and kept me informed of the work that was being done. I easily talked to Jennifer for my invoices and she was able to email me updated contract information and estimates when needed. The workers did their best to manage our front yard; we don't have a lot of landscaping, but they replaced the short retaining wall when they were finished, and were able to keep most of the dirt off our lawn. They could have done a better job sweeping our front porch when finished, but I consider that to be very minor and easily fixed by myself in 5 minutes. Its hard to tell how the sewer work itself looks because after all it is a sewer and completely underground; its not something I can inspect myself. But we have had no problems so far, and I'm confident that should something happen to arise, I would be able to easily work with NW Sewer to get it addressed.
