The experience was good, but I had to be present to make sure what they were doing and what I wanted. They end up doing a good job, but there were points where I had that were not what I exactly wanted. The wall was along the property line and I had to make sure they indeed place it right up the property line. There were things that required directions, but the end result was good. The access to the work area was limited. This company did everything by the hand, so they didn't have to bring the heavy equipment from the neighbor's yard that requires heavy mechanism. The pricing was very good and I would have lost the money in the amount of thelabor, but it was a fair price. If I wouldn't have been here, then it wouldn't have been what I wanted. The responsiveness was very good.
Description of Work: Shoreline Concrete did a concrete retaining wall. They replaced a part of the wall that required a removal of an existing wall that had broken loose and remainder was about two-foot vertical extension across the back of the yard, so they increased the height of an existing wall. They tore off the side and replaced the existing wall.

Our job was slightly complicated in that the front porch has no support below it on one corner and is over the unfinished basement. Three other contractors had come out and 'thought' they could do our job. Shoreline Concrete was the only company that knew they could handle the situation and not have the new porch crash down into the basement. They were professional, fast, and very experienced. The job site was always left tidy at the end of the day. After the concrete was poured and forms removed, there were a few cosmetic flaws. They came back promptly and fixed those to our satisfaction. I also appreciated the Ivan and Tim had good design sense and were willing to share their thoughts.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced cracked and failing front porch, stairs and walkway.

I called them last week and they made an appointment to make an estimate for today at 10am. I called first to confirm the appointment and only an answering machine picked up and I left a message to have them call me on my cell or home phone. I drove out to meet them at 10:00 am anyway, no one showed up. After waiting half an hour I left and came home. No one called me. I called again, their answering machine message still on, saying they are open. Odd and very disappointing.

It took several days of calling multiple times to get an appointment. Bruce cancelled the first appointment the day of the appointment. He made it for the second appointment. Did a walk through of the carport and had some useful suggestions and gave a verbal bid. He said that he would send a written proposal/bid but to date that has never been received. He may do excellent work but he needs to work on communication, punctuality and follow-through. I ranked him "good" because he recommended doing nothing to the carport for the $$ it would cost, which at least seemed honest.

The service was not good. It was definitely a mom-and-pop operation. They went over and gave me estimate, they had to cancel it and it sounded like the mom was doing the booking and it sounds she's working out of a kitchen. This was a fairly significant job for me because I need my garage floor leveled so to me it was an important thing.

Shoreline concrete was fantastic. They responded quickly to my inquiry, provided a prompt estimate (same day) and completed the work 3 days later. Given our classic Wallingford neighborhood, they did an excellent job texturing the work and coloring the concrete to match the era/period of our home (versus something stark naked and ugly). Highly recommend and would use Shoreline concrete again.

I had them out to bid the work and their solution far surpassed my own plan for the job (and the other concrete contractors I had look at it) They were able to schedule the work within a week and finished the job in a single long day. Though the estimate and final bill was 50% more expensive than the next bid I received (from sole proprietor), I was won over by their responsiveness, project plan and (in retrospect) quality of work.

I called this business and set up an appointment for an estimate, for water proofing my basement. They day and hour (3:30pm)of the set appointment came. Mr. Vance was a no show. I called his office to find out what the delay was, I was able to speak with Mr. Vance, and his answer was, that he did not copy my info correctly, that's impossible since he repeated the info back to me. I took time off from work in order to be on time for the appointment , and I expect the other party to do the same no excuses period!. I called and set up a 6:00 pm appointment with A Better Crawl, INC. Mr. Melvin Baird, he did not show up at 6:00 but 10 minutes earlier. his company will do the necessary repairs.

On time (faster) and on budget. After some considerable prep work of supporting the house, excavation was begun. Everything went quickly and professionally. I was impressed by the non-stop work and the insane work ethic of the crew. Never an idle day start to finish. The project itself had some quirky foundation design and an unavailable architect. Keith and the crew more than once saved me from what could have been big mistakes from less than explicit plans. For the size of the job, the complexity, and the variety of skills it required Shoreline accomplished it without problem. I cannot be happier, absolutely no complaints. I had quotes from 3 other contractors that may have been lower (hard to tell) but only Shoreline quoted the entire job (all aspects) in a simple readable and understandable form and in the end were accurate to the penny. Pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: Foundation work on a major addition as well as smaller foundation bump-outs for new kitchen and dining room. Altered and repaired garage floor. Did all excavation, hauling, concrete cutting, and support (cribbing) of structure, as well as footing drains and damp proofing. These guys can and did do it all, one stop shopping.

Lifted house, excavated, formed, poured and reset onto new foundation. Shoreline was prompt, very responsive and there were no surprise costs. Their work is professional, crews polite and considerate, and the whole firm is responsive to questions and informative. It is a pleasure to deal with Vance Bartleson, the principal owner, Bruce who runs the office and Keith the job boss. Like any sub-contractor, it takes work to keep up with change orders, plan compliance and minor details, but Shoreline was right on top of our concerns. We liked them so much we rehired them to do some hardscaping in the yard after the basement was done.
Description of Work: Lift house, demolish and excavate for full size basement, form and pour basement walls, floors, stairs and lower house onto new foundation. Do have your plans complete. Do discuss details in advance. Do plan for weather delays. Do check for errors or oversights - in your plans and in the workmanship. Communicate constantly with the contractor.

Great - from start to finish. Initially people told me to "forget about rebuilding with concrete -- too expensive." Despite being extremely long lasting, durable and low-maintenance, many people thought it would be too cost-prohibitive to even consider. So to that end I got two bids to tear down and rebuild with wood composite. Those bids were between $2400 and $2800 -- more than I'd (perhaps naively) hoped. So I figured, why not just check with a couple concrete people. I got two concrete bids, including one from Shoreline Concrete's Vance Bartleson. Not only was he very friendly, it was clear he had many years of experience and knew what he was dealing with. And his bid was only $2100. (Incidentally, the other concrete bid was still lower than the highest wood-composite bid I'd gotten). They got out quickly and finished the job in a shorter time than Vance originally estimated. Everybody was friendly and efficient. Plus, when there were two minor issues (a little concrete splattered on our house siding, and a screw not fully in), they came the next day, apologized and fixed them straight away. The stairs look fantastic and I would highly recommend Shoreline Concrete Co Inc to anyone.

The guy came out and was up front that they were a huge company. He said they have a huge office, lots of trucks and equipment, and a lot of over head. He said he would be the most expensive but have the best quality. If I had a high quality finesse project I needed done I would give him first consideration .He was a straight shooter, right up front with things and I appreciate that. He had a list of jobs in the area that he had done that I could drive around and look at. I have referred him to other people and I told them he wouldn't be the cheapest, but I would bet on his quality based on our conversation. He made an appointment to come out the very next day.

Everything went well. Good cleanup. This type of job can really mess up things, but all in all I can't complain. The yard was protected as well as they could.
Description of Work: Our 1908 house in Everett had a foundation under 2/3 the house, where there is a not-quite-full-height basement. The rest of the house is on post and pier, where the piers were those concrete pads you buy at your local hardware store. In fact, the basement part of the house is technically also post and pier, but the "pier" part is the existing foundation. Shoreline's job was to dig out and pour a foundation in the crawl space area. They dug out part of the side of the house, then shored up the house with big beams. Now that the house was supported, they finished digging out the new foundation. Then they put up forms and poured. The digging was awkward and crowded. Fortunately they knew how to do this difficult work, which went surprisingly fast. After some curing time, they removed the forms, then built a pony wall under the house. This was also very awkward work. Now 1/3 of the house was bolted down. Finally, they built shear walls in the basement portion of the house, all bolted down to the existing foundation. Not all of it is pretty, but it's all strong and safe. Now we have a foundation all around the house. THey also poured 6 substantial pads under other piers internal to the crawl space and at four posts for the full-width front porch of the house.
Vance, Keith and team did a great job. Their bid came in on budget and on time. It was a fairly complex project but without getting into too much detail they essentially escavated my old slab and dirt (about 80 yards worth). They excavated 3 feet to net out about 1.5 feet of extra headroom, underpinned the existing foundation and poured a new slab. Now I have 8' ceilings in my basement. The best part is that they did extensive waterproofing and during the last couple of wet years in Seattle--we have had zero water issues. They were absolutely wonderful to deal with--one of the best contractor experiences I have ever had.

We have a problem with rats here on Magnolia. The critters burrow under our foundation wall and up into our crawl space. I have a 2/3rds basement and 1/3 crawl space. I've had several pest companies out to do rat exclusion and finally one company from Angies List told me that the only way to keep them from getting into the house is to pour a concrete slab in my crawl space so when they burrow they have nowhere to go. I got several bids (6) for doing a rat slab as it's called. I was favorably impressed with almost every company I had out, but one stood out above the rest and that was Shoreline Concrete. They had to dig out the crawl so that when the concrete was poured there would be a minimum of 18" of clearance from the top of the slab to the floor joists. The only access to the crawl space was through a small opening in the basement. Here was the job, Dig a big hole to be able to cut the concrete, and create the opening. Cut an access hatch to the crawl space on the outside of my house. 30" x 30" Make a window well for the opening, similar to the wells around my house. Frame it and pour it. Make a door for the opening with a vent in it. Dig out the crawl space so the 3" of concrete would provide 18" of clearance minimum for the 600 sq ft of space. Level the space for the pour. Replace the posts under the house so there would be no post to dirt contact, 3 or 4 blocks needed to be brought in and the posts cut to accommodate. Did I tell you this job started, then we got the storm of the season, so these guys were digging and moving dirt in the snow and freezing cold weather. They didn't miss a day, don't know how they managed to get up the steep hills to get to my house, but they did. They had Tydi Concrete cutters out to cut the hatch opening, he did an unbelievably good job. Put down vapor barrier. Framed for the well, got a pumper truck out and the concrete truck. Poured the slab and the well in a little over an hour. I mentioned I live on a hill right? Two flights of stairs to get to my front door. So the concrete had to be pumped up from the street level to the crawl space. Removed the framing, all of the dirt, all of the concrete that was cut and put rock in the bottom of the well for drainage. Totally avoid disturbing my neighbor's property who is not even ten feet from my house. And work around my landscaping, which they did, not an easy thing to do. I thought I would have sacrifice some plants for this job but I didn't. Provided me with a detailed bid, proof of insurance and when I paid them in full a lien release. Very professional, easy to work with and I'm patting myself on the back that I had the good sense to hire this company. They didn't have the lowest bid, but they gave me a fair bid. After 6 different bids, I knew what it should cost, what would be fair. It was an ugly kind of job to have to take on, and the crew they had out were upbeat and worked really, really hard all day long. You go Shoreline Concrete! I would hire them again, and I highly recommend them for any concrete work.
Description of Work: Created an opening in my foundation wall to access the crawl space, excavate the crawl space and level it to pour a "rat slab", fix wood to dirt posts under the house, frame and pour a window well that matched the rest of the well around my house. Create a door with a vent for the new crawl space opening. Remove all dirt and debris. Put in drainage rock at the bottom of the well.

They man that came out was a nice guy and told me up front that his price was going to be really high because they are a big company with lots of employees and big overhead for office space.
