Description of Work: I have had Chris Peterson of Raincap Construction handle a number of projects. A rental property fix up and a remodel of our garage into a beautiful office etc. So when it came time to get my house ready to sell, I knew who to call. We were also moving out of the state and the kitchen remodel, bathroom update and general repairs, painting etc. needed to be handled IN MY ABSENCE. I have had so many successful projects with Chris that I DIDN'T WORRY FOR ONE MINUTE. Chris, once again, handled the project beautifully, it was on time, on budget and THE HOUSE SOLD IN ONE DAY! When it comes time to fix up my rental property to sell, he will once again be the first company I call. He's the best!
We couldn't be happier with the experience. Chris, his employees and subs were all spectacular. There was some very tricky engineering involved in the removal of the wall for the sliding door, as well as in the leveling of the floor. Lance, Liam and David are master craftsmen. The end result is stunning. They were on budget and on time. Chris had the scheduling down to the minute, so there was never any lag in work progress. We highly recommend Chris and his team, and we will go to Raincap for all of our remodeling needs in the future.
Description of Work: Complete basement remodel. Removed exterior wall and installed a sliding glass door; leveled the basement floor and installed engineered hardwood floors; moved laundry room, added two pocket doors; added walls for new closets; new tile floors and subway tile wainscoting in bathroom; new tile and subway tile in new laundry room; new cabinetry in laundry room and entryway; new woodwork throughout. We purchased the cabinetry, patio door, utility sink, tile, grout, door hardware and other miscellany, which increased the cost by about $10k, but saved us on contractor markup.

We got 3 bids for work on our house. Raincap was more expensive than the other two (not by much) , but it was the clear choice. The proposal was very detailed so it was apparent that Chris knew all of the components involved in our remodel, and since he had everything absolutely spelled out, I knew we wouldn't be quibbling over cost later on. It was obvious what was included and what wasn't. After working with Raincap, I came to realize that while the initial price was more expensive than the others, you totally get what you pay for (and then some) with Raincap. Chris ensured that everything was completed to very high standards, so it was done right the first time and we don't have to worry about spending money to fix any of the work. Another way that I feel Raincap saved us money was through Chris' foresight in helping us plan for future work down the road. While we were remodeling to the main story of our house, Chris knew our plan to finish our basement in the future. If it weren't for Chris' advice, I know we would have to undo some of the work we did when we eventually do finish the basement. Raincap Construction is really the full package. Chris was responsible, easy to work with and generous with his time, advice and help. Chris has an amazing dedication to impeccable craftsmanship and smart advice throughout the process. He got things done on time or ahead of time, communicated regularly about the progress of the project, and has a great team working for/with him. We can't wait to work with Raincap again!
Description of Work: Remodel of fixer-upper: complete bathroom remodel, added powder room, updated electric & plumbing, replaced windows & door, added gas plumbing, refinished fir floors, removed chimney.

I emailed Chris for an estimate for a basement remodel. He replied promptly, discussed my projects and its scope, thought about it, and quickly concluded that he could not fit it into his schedule. While no work was done, Chris was a pleasure to deal with, and he didn't waste my time, which I appreciate.

Raincap Construction was: On Schedule. On Time. On Budget. And the results are wonderful. Our project was a 12x8 addition to the existing kitchen. Our brick home was built in 1953. The small kitchen lacked room for us and two friends. We wanted a room filled with light. Because the project required a roof extension and a new foundation, we interviewed 8 contractors. From those eight we selected Chris Peterson of Raincap Construction. We found him on Angie?s list. We liked his cool, calm, polite, intelligent manner. We liked the Angie?s List reviews. We liked his cost estimate--$43,000. We liked his subs?two of them looked at the site early. Chris came to our house every morning to discuss the project with the crew. He always asked us for our input and was extremely attentive to any of our suggestions. He kept us informed with a weekly schedule that he sent via email and sent us follow up messages almost every evening. If we had any questions or concerns, he immediately attended to them. Many times he rolled up his sleeves and did some work himself. Chris coordinated the work of the subs beautifully. He also worked very smoothly with our architect, Lotte Kragh. We wanted to keep our existing cabinets and granite and needed to find some new cabinets and granite to match. Because of his excellent connections, Chris helped us locate a first-class cabinet maker; a countertop guy who matched his granite to ours; a fine painter (we?re bringing him back for other jobs); and a savvy paint expert who matched the new cabinets to the old ones, which had been installed 17 years ago. Not only did these subs do fine work, their prices were better than any we had found. We especially liked Chris?s framer, Lance Strash. Lance tore off the old roof and set the trusses for the new roof. He built the walls, including openings for six windows and an eight-foot sliding French door. He also later built the deck which is a work of art. Lance arrived early, often 7:30 or 8. He did not leave until after 5 o?clock. Everyone Chris assigned to our job was polite and mannerly, as well as skilled in their work. We couldn?t be happier with our experience with Raincap Construction and with the beautiful addition to our kitchen. We recommend Chris Peterson without reservation and with great enthusiasm. He is first class!! Adding to our pleasure is the fact that the project was completed exactly on schedule and on budget. What could be better than that. Thank you Chris Peterson.
Description of Work: We added an 8x12 addition to our kitchen at the back of the house. The project involved a new foundation, roof extension, installation of windows and a sliding French door. We also matched exiting oak flooring, cabinets and granite and added a new prep sink and many lights. Plans were developed by an architect, Lotte Kraugh, and the addition blends beautifully with the house.

Chris was our project manager and coordinated all the subs to do the work. I don't know how we was able to negotiate the prices to be so low. During the entire project Chris was always availiable to answer quesitons and check in. His communication via e-mail and phone was excellent. He would often respond to our e-mails early in the morning and late into the night. His cost and time estimate were spot on. He is also extremely honest and puts customer satisfaction first. There were several times Chris saw something that could be fixed and took upon himself to do for our house for free that was not in the original bid. There were a couple times when we were not 100% satisfied with something (usully because of one of the subs) and Chris was always apoligetic and made sure the situation was taken care of right away. He is also an excellent resources and gives really good advice on home improvement. He never tries to cheat you to spend more than you need to. Chris is also just a really nice guy and so easy to talk to. In the end, our house turned out beautifully and the process was amazingly stress free because we knew Chris had everything under control. We will definitely call Chris again when we are ready to do more remodeling.
Description of Work: FULL HOUSE REMODEL!!! We just bought a 1950's house that never got remodeled until we came along and did the works - all new plumbing, electrical, windows, roof, and doors. Full kitchen and bath remodels, change from oil to gas heating, earthquake retrofit, refinished floors, skylights, etc.

They are great. It’s an ongoing process and they are probably there today as well. So far, we have spent probably between $20000 and $30000. They are very nice to work with. They are very informative. They explain our options. We think they are pretty reasonable. They are not cheap, but they are not super expensive too.
Description of Work: We have been using the services of Raincap Construction and we have been talking to them for about 9 months now since we had a long house buying process before. I looked at them first probably in August or September of last year and we have been using them since March. They are remodeling a bathroom and a bunch of interior living spaces. We are converting a place that was commercial into residential.

Chris did a good job working with me to come up with a price for an addition to the back of my house. He was professional and helpful and seemed like a genuinely good guy. We did not move forward with the work though as I had determined it better to hold off on this job for another year or so. The price and schedule Chris provided was fair for the work we were looking at.

I?m not done with them. They are going to come back and I would probably have to spend as much as another $200 to $400 may be, I really don?t know how much. It was especially tricky with them because I have a door trash and a drawer front made by another company and they don?t do installation. They do doors and drawers for other cabinet companies. Sometimes they were a little off on their major men. Now that they are together it was not all that clear cut. That?s why some of these companies really didn?t want to do any of my work. But Raincap was willing to do it. There was this one guy who worked really hard. He pretty much worked all day without taking a break. He came out and worked one full day, but it?s not finished. It needs to be finished. I would use his services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Raincap Construction. I last used their services probably about two months ago. They installed cabinet doors and door front.

From my initial contact with Chris Peterson, the owner of Raincap Construction, I found Chris great to work with. He displayed great technical skill, consideration of me as a homeowner and newbie to remodeling. He was also enthusiastic about my project. Chris is honest and forthright. I gave Chris my spec list and he came back with a number too big for my budget; he emailed me his Excel worksheet budget with his actual figures , which I used to whittle down my requirements to fit my budget. For example, I ended up doing my own painting. During the project, I couldn't use tankless electric water heaters that I had planned to use. Chris put me in contact with the plumber so I could deal with him directly and avoid paying the general contractor mark up Chris assembled a great team of subs; they made my project go smoothly and quickly, and I ended up with a beautifully remodeled house. We even finished ahead of schedule a bit, including a delay during the Christmas holidays. Each sub did a great job and patiently answered my many questions about their work. I have enjoyed working with Chris. You will, too.
Description of Work: 2-month remodeling project included: 1) Remodeling a 1,670 square foot, single story 1954 rambler house 2) Removing a wall between living room and kitchen to create an open entryway 3) Installing a beam and posts to to support the entryway. 4) Replacing existing vinyl flooring. 5) Changing a half-bath to a full bath 6) Replacing all galvanized water pipes to pex piping 7) Upgrading electrical service and adding new light fixtures.
Chris, Liam and their team of subs for sheetrock, electrical, insulation, spackling and framing performed a phenomenal job. My wife and I couldn?t be happier with our second floor guest room and master closet. Chris provided excellent recommendations before, during and even after the project was completed. We even had a closet designer comment on how impressed he was on the quality of the master closet (level floor, straight walls, etc.). Chris and his subs were very accommodating on schedule, even working weekends to wrap up the project in 2.5 weeks. If you want a general contractor with a team with exceptional attention to detail, subs that you can trust, and a great sense of humor, then look no further than RainCap Construction. I already have a list of projects that I expect Chris and his team will work on for next year.
Description of Work: Project1: Created walk-in closet in the master bedroom, which required removing the existing wall, installing floor joists and subfloor, framing the 11x8' closet, installing a closet door, wiring electrical outlets and lighting, insulation (rigid foam and blow in), sheetrocking and base trim. Project 2: Expanded out our guest bedroom which required demolishing the back wall, installing a new beam recessed in the attic, installing pony walls, floor joists and subfloor, framing a small closet, installing bi-fold doors for the closet, wiring electrical outlets and lighting in the room, insulation (rigid foam and blow in), sheetrocking and base trim.
It went AMAZING! I cannot say more good things about Chris! I am so very glad we went with Raincap for this remodel. This was actually our first big remodel, and we were a bit nervous. But Chris was fantastic to work with, and the project went as smoothly as anyone could hope. The hiccups were promptly addressed by Chris, and a more than acceptable resolution achieved. And though the price was a little higher than quoted, the adders were expected, and some things we decided to add ourselves. Chris' subcontractors are really great. Each one was personable, easy to work with, and most importantly, experts at what they were doing. We only had issues with one (the insulation guys- Clean Crawls), but Chris dealt with the issues for us and we were very happy with how he handled it. Chris ordered a porta-potty for the duration of the project, which was nice. The dumpster and toilet came as scheduled and were serviced and removed as scheduled also. Demo went smoothly and quickly. 2 guys came to do the demo, and unfortunately it was the hottest day of the summer (it hit mid-upper 90's!), but they worked quickly and efficiently and got it done in record time. Very nice guys. The first construction problem came when the paneling was torn down. Apparently back in 1937 when this was done, they weren't too big on structural support. Room 2 had 1, yes just one, ceiling support beam. I won't get into all the various structural issues, but basically, there needed to be an extra full day (at least) of the framing guy's work to get the rooms up to snuff. But we figured there would be something when tear down was done, and at least it was fixable. Lance, the framer, was a master! When he reinforced the roof beams, he lifted the roof about 6" (it was sagging that much). Electrical work was done with no problems. They took my crude drawings of where I wanted what, and made it work. Somewhere in this project, the line to the lower floor dining room was messed up - so we lost light in that room. The electrical guy came out quickly and, even though they had to cut up some of the subfloor (thankfully the flooring wasn't laid yet) to get to it, it was fixed. I only had 1 qualm with the electrical and that was during the finish - we painted prior to the electrical finish, so when the can lighting went in, he left black marks, smudges and some holes in the ceiling that my paint guy had to go back and fix and repaint. But it wasn't that big of a deal, I'd just suggest they wear gloves and be more careful when installing the cans & other finish items next time. The next issue was with the insulation guys. We wanted added bird blocking to the roof, in hopes to help keep air circulating in the attic and get the temperature down in the summer. The initial meet went well, and they seemed to know what was going on. But when they came to do the various insulation work and the blocking, it was messy. The bird blocking was uneven and messy, and they didn't really know what to do with the insulation - I had to continually answer their questions as to what they should be doing (and I wasn't too sure myself, as Chris and the Clean Crawls guy discussed it). Also, they showed up late, stayed late, didn't finish when they said they would, just overall poor communication. Anyway, I spoke to Chris about this, and he was surprised, as he'd had prior good experiences with them. However, he made every effort to make it right, and he did. He personally dealt with the sub so I didn't have to, and I wasn't charged for any of this work. The drywallers did great work - also very professional and efficient. Dale, of DC Drywall, did the mudding. I refer to him as the alien, as he liked to show up as early as possible (but I only let him in after 7am). :) He is a great guy, and does amazing work. Extremely smooth walls, he evened out some odd angles. We also had him do some work in the basement where the ceiling was removed to add a water line a while ago. He fixed the holes in the stairwell (which is lathe/plaster, not drywall). He came back at the end to fix the holes created by the stair guys when they ripped out the old stairs (took some wall with it), and he made it smooth and match the existing walls. You can hardly tell anything was ever wrong. The flooring guy - Daniel of European Hardwood Floors - was also a pleasure to work with, and did amazing work. I'll detail my experience with him in a separate review. The tiling in the bathroom went well and looks amazing! Since it is such a small space, we had to order a 10" rough-in toilet. Unfortunately, there were some problems with the flange and the toilet wouldn't sit right (who knew this wasn't standard?!), but Chris and Liam tried a bunch of different things, and it finally got set. Sink was installed just fine, as were the towel rack and toilet paper holder. The finish went really well. The trim was installed perfectly. Everything was even and pretty. The whole project took a touch longer than quoted, but that was due to the additional framing and then some things extra that we wanted added, so it was as expected. The upstairs now looks AMAZING. I am just in awe every time I walk up there. I don't cringe every time I go upstairs anymore - instead I smile! We have so much more usable space (with the closet space opened up and the removal of the built in bed). It is smooth, pretty, clean lines, no droopy ceilings or claustrophobic issues. I am so very happy I went with Chris and Raincap to do this remodel. He made me feel comfortable throughout the entire process, and I didn't stress as much as I thought I would, since he took care of everything. He is extremely organized, knowledgeable, and friendly, and knows all the good subcontractors. He treats his subs well - which is also very important for quality jobs. Many have been with him for years. I'll definitely be hiring Chris for all my future jobs.
Description of Work: Our attic area was embarrassing... Everywhere was knotty pine paneling for the walls and ceilings. There are 2 rooms + small 1/2 bath. Room 1: knotty pine panel walls and ceiling (uneven, gaps, bends), painted with primer and the trim painted green. Carpet ugly and stained. Room 2: knotty pine panel walls and ceiling, all painted a bright green. Carpet also ugly and stained. There was this odd built in "bed" area that cut the room in half, and the room was small enough already. Bath: carpeted, carpet was laid over linoleum, and didn't match the carpet in the rest of the area. The toilet was old. The sink was old, stained. The stairway was also carpet, didn't match the rest, and was stained. The banister was actually set into the wall (not screwed on the wall, but more like dug a hole in the wall where the banister attachments would be and screwed in there, then painted over). Suffice to say, there was a lot of work needed. Since buying the house, this upstairs was the part we wanted changed the most. I got bids from 3 contractors to remodel this area. Though Chris was the highest, he was the one who seemed the most competent, knew what he was doing and what the work would entail, he was honest, and overall gave me that warm fuzzy feeling that I wouldn't be getting myself into a pit of despair with this one. The other two were questionable - like they would cut quality to make the bid price. I'm of the stance you get what you pay for, and go with your instincts, so we chose to go with Chris and Raincap Construction. The work included: tear down of pine paneling, replacement with drywall, texturize. Room 1 had 2 closets, so tear down of one to extend room into that area. Room 2 included tear down of the built-in bed area to extend room into there. Add full-size door to Room 2 access to attic. Fix stairwell, add wood risers. Redo bathroom - remove carpet/linoleum, add tile and replace fixtures. Other items included better insulation, electrical work, and some added support to the roof rafters on one side. The removal of carpet showed that the original fir flooring was still in decent condition! So we had his sub (see my review on European Hardwood Floors with Daniel) fill in the gaps and refinish the floors and stairs. The flooring was paid for separately and not included in this total amount. We also had an a/c unit installed, but not included in this $. We wrote a separate review for that company. The painting was also done separately, as was refinishing of the pine paneling in the hallway area (we kept this, as it was in great condition and added to the 1927 feel of the house).
The project went very well. We had another competitive bid, but chose Raincap for the following reasons: 1. We thought Chris would be pleasant & easy to work with - and he was! 2. We purchased the older house because we liked its old charm. From the beginning Chris was conscious of our desire to modernize the home for our family, but keep the charm. He was responsive to our aesthetic and made great suggestions. 3. We had an aggressive schedule - the majority of the remodeling needed to be completed in 2 months (our lease was expiring at our previous house). 4. His bid and proposed schedule was clear. During the project Chris communicated very well and was flexible on how we wanted things done. We used an interior designer (Rivalee Redesign -- excellent!) and Chris worked exceptionally well with her -- helping us identify the critical path items for decisions so that we could all keep the project on schedule. Chris handled permits and inspections when needed. Chris was very reasonable when accommodating changes that came up during the project -- there were a few surprises (good and bad) given the age and state of the house. Raincap hired the sub-contractors for floors, painting, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical. The subs were excellent. Chris directed us to a good company for the insulation work and for the structural engineering work required, so these items fit seamlessly into the overall project. We also worked directly with the cabinet, countertop and kitchen tile/floor suppliers, so there was no markup on these items. We purchased all lighting, windows, appliances, and sinks, etc. with no mark up. Raincap did all installation. Communication was excellent -- which allowed this project to be completed on time. The total project cost about $140,000 -- including all work by Raincap and all work/purchases from outside suppliers. The project stayed on schedule and we were able to move in when we wanted. The only areas that went over budget were those we decided to augment while we were underway - and the additions were very reasonable.
Description of Work: Remodel of home. We purchased a 1925 craftsman-style home that had great bones and charm but needed alot of work. Gutted the kitchen and removed a large section of wall between kitchen & dining room as well as moved large windows. Painted the entire home interior which required removing old wallpaper and repair to existing old plaster. Refinished wood floors. Replaced knob & tube electrical wiring. Insulated entire home. Remodel of family room in basement including moving old heating pipes from basement ceiling into a corner.

Chris was punctual and conscientious. He was running about 10 minutes late but called to warn me he was stuck in traffic (it was rush hour). After arriving he reviewed all the work I had planned. Chris was patient with the fact that I didn't have every detail nailed down yet. He asked intelligent questions and helped guide me to the professional services I needed. Chris referred me to the right sub-contractors to help me finish my project. I was very pleased with Chris's professionalism, and I would definately contact him in the future for any remodeling project.
Description of Work: I had Chris out to review some work I was doing and provide a consultation. Chris reviewed the plans, offered intelligent suggestions and was understanding of my situation. Chris reviewed the plans with me, made suggestions, and offered assistance with locating the right people to get the work done.
Raincap Construction was great. Their bid was reasonable and they worked within my budget. The work came in on-time, within budget, and the quality of the workmanship was high. Chris and all of his subcontractors were great to work with. It doesn't get better than that. I would recommend him highly and work with him again in a second.
Description of Work: I had them convert a storage space into an office. It required demolition, insulation, drywall, heating, electricity, framing, paint, shelving, and new window and door installation.

After receiving bids from four different contractors for a major basement remodel, we selected Chris Peterson at Raincap Construction, and we've been thrilled with our choice. Chris is easy to communicate with, and after walking through our basement with us recommended us to an excellent architect who helped us re-think our designs into something 100 times better. After selecting Chris, he walked us through the process, contract, and schedule and got right to work sending his carpenter Liam (who is fantastic -- a big hit with our 2 year old son) and an army of excellent subs to complete the work. Since we didn't have much headroom in our old basement, we had initially been prepared to accept an "ok" basement with lots of boxing around ducts and pipes, but Chris brought his experience to bear and figured out great ways to relocate everything up into the joist bays to get us a nice flat obstruction-free ceiling. Fantastic! Scheduling of the work was good, and Chris was able to stay close to on-schedule despite a couple of surprises. He involved us in the process and gave us an opportunity to weigh in on decisions and tradeoffs. All of the workmanship is top quality, and Chris in a couple places even asked subs to come back and fix things that we were prepared to accept. To top it all off, Chris went above and beyond helping us patch up a pantry in the kitchen that wasn't in his original scope of work, but was affected when the chimney was demolished. All in all we'd highly recommend Chris and Raincap, and would definitely use them again if we had major remodeling to do.
Description of Work: Full remodel of an old drafty 600 sq ft basement in a 1927 house to convert into a livable bedroom, bathroom, recroom, and laundry area. Job included some major structural work (moving 3 posts and a set of stairs, adding new engineered beams, cutting concrete on a foundation wall to add new walk-out French doors, and removing a chimney), major HVAC work (new furnace, new ducting set flush into the ceiling), major plumbing work (cutting into the concrete slab to add a new bathroom and laundry room, and all new supply and waste lines for most of the house, new side sewer line to the street), lots of new electrical, framing, sheetrocking, tiling, painting, finish trim, etc.

Raincap Construction is awesome. Chris is very professional and his follow through is unmatched based on our experience with other work that we have done over the last 6 years that includes electrical, plumbing, and a kitchen remodel. We will hire Raincap Construction in the future & highly recommend this company due to their follow through and excellent sub contractors.
Description of Work: Gutted original bathroom of a 1950 home. Moved one of the walls of the bathroom 14 inches which also required to move the adjacent bedroom wall and 2 closets 14 inches. New plumbing & electrical were also completed.

When we found Chris and Raincap Construction we had been through innumerable designs, budgets, and scope of our project. We consider ourselves reasonably informed remodelers (this was our third large project) and we were looking for a contractor who we would not cause (or cause us) angst because of our persnickety ways. Chris was a referral from our architect who thought we would be a good fit. She was absolutely right. Chris worked with us and kept to our budget and scope of the project ? and treated us with respect. Respect of the budget, our time, and the impact on the household. Chris is also a funny guy ? humor on a remodel project is key. A great example is the message I got about my new bathroom installation. No bathroom in the scope. What gives? Looked to find the newly deposited honeybucket outside. The project involved structural changes to the house, e.g. removal of structural supports and the installation of steel beams that spanned across the house. Subs included framers, plumbers, drywall, steel fabricators, etc. The framers were amazing ? for all the adjustments, movement, installation, etc. we expected in our 1924 house to have dozens of cracks and movement and doors to adjust. Amazingly, we only have two very small cracks. That is incredible finesse. When the budget allows, we cannot wait to have them back to do the finish work in the basement and some bathroom renovations!
Description of Work: - Major Structural change (removal of support posts, installation of steel beams) - Some plumbing rerouting - Coordination with subs - Concrete cutting, removal, pouring - Drywall - Handrail - New window installation

We couldn't be more exciting about our experience (and this comes from someone who is known to drag her feet on projects like this and is not easy to please!). Both my husband and I are RAVING about the the overall experience as well as the final outcome of the project. We tell everyone who wants to listen (and those who don't) how absolutely delighted we are with Chris's work and how much we love our new porch. Chris from the start understood the scope of work we envisioned. He guided us professionally through decisions about scope/materials before the start of the work. Throughout the project, he stayed on track in terms of time lines and cost estimates; both of which we appreciated. ...and BTW, the year before someone else gave us a significant higher, almost 2x, estimate for the same scope thus the project was tabled. Chris at all times promptly responded to all our requests during the project. The major part of work was done by 2 very pleasant carpenters, Howard and Forest, who did an amazing job tearing down and rebuilding our porch. Everyday you could see major progress. We are just delighted with Chris's work, professionalism and his team. He'll be on our speed dial for any future project and I whole-heartedly recommend him to anyone else.
Description of Work: Repair and rebuild front porch.

My husband likes to talk person to person and we went to their business. We were not able to get ahold of them there but he did put us on to DOM and we are currently pursuing.
Description of Work: We were looking to have siding done.
Chris is really great to work with and I highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for remodel or construction general contractor. Chris is professional, punctual, upfront in all his dealings, and completely customer oriented. his final bid was exactly what i ended up paying for the project. no suprises. he provided a very detailed day by day schedule at the start of the project, and we never deviated from it more than 1day over the course of the entire job. the project ended on time. he is extremely detail oriented and sticks very tightly to his published schedule. I really appreciated that. i designed the space myself, but intentionally left out a few of the finish details until most of the structure had gone up to make sure some of the items would "look right". Chris was fine with this, and even provided some lighting suggestions to help us get just the right feel over our new stairway. I found his sub's to be first rate, and also very customer oriented. they were all very family friendly and i never had an issue with one of them during the entire project. the space turned out significantly better than anticipated. the flooring and finish carpentry were really top-notch. but the best compliment i can provide is that if i had to do it all over again i would use his services again, in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: We hired Chris as general contractor on a 500sqft childs playroom / storage / nap area addition over our garage. the project included significant demo of existing attic structure, pouring of new concrete, framing of new floor and posts, two skylights, a new stairwell, electrical, insulation, HVAC, sheetrock, texturing, hardwood flooring, and built in finish carpentry. the project lasted about 10weeks start to finish.

I am very pleased. Chris from Raincap Construction was very responsive and took a look at the task. He reassured me that this is a small issue and no big repair or replacement was needed. He then independently came within 2 days and completed the repair. Great experience: no hassle, no delay, no problem playing phone tag which I particularly appreciated as I cannot easily call/get calls during regular work hours due to my work commitments, arranged appointment by e-mail. Very nice guy.
Description of Work: I needed someone who could repair a smaller section of the soffit before gutters will be replaced.

Overall it exceeded my expectations. I'm quite aware of and have experienced all the cliches regarding working with subcontractors... challenges with quality, dependability, reliability, etc. Thankfully, I found Chris's work to be consistent with the expectations he set, and he was nearly always done within the time and monetary expectations set as well. Given all of that, I was surprised and pleased.
Description of Work: Chris assisted me in remodeling large portions of my house over the course of about five months. To save money, I provided a great deal of the labor, while Chris focused on consulting, managing the project, connecting me with sub-contractors, and taking on some of the more technical or risky work himself, such as electrical and plumbing. The work scope included remodeling the kitchen, bathroom, two bedrooms, and adding in a completely new bathroom in the basement. He also replaced most of the old plumbing in the house.

Chris was a great contractor to work with. He took the time to understand what our objectives were and did a good job of explaining his approach in a clear and reasonable project scope/proposal. He explained the potential problems that could arise and was open with us about their implications. Contingencies were accounted for in his proposal and when all was said and done the work was done on time and under budget. Chris is also knowledgable about the Seattle home market, has good design sense, and understands how to tailor the work he is doing to the home's original character. I would recommend Chris to anyone who needs a reliable, honest, and accountable contractor.
Description of Work: Chris completed a full bathroom remodel and master-suite conversion in the second floor of our 1927 Seattle home. He also installed two picture windows and a new front door on the main floor of our home. The bathroom and master-suite conversion remodel included building a new dividing wall in an existing hallway and opening up an existing was between two existing rooms. Chris moving existing plumbing and electrical, installed new french doors with glass in the new bathroom. He also installed heated tile in the new bathroom and put in new baseboard heat on a separate thermostat in the master-suite. The doors and windows on the main floor are amazing, particularly considering that 80+ year old home has settled over the years presenting challenges to the job.
