Chris Peterson grew up as the son of a contractor. Since he was old enough to swing a hammer, Chris has been building houses. Trained as an engineer, Chris spent over 15 years working on large commercial construction projects throughout the United States. The experience he gained coordinating with architects, contractors and municipalities gives him a unique set of skills, which complement his role as a general contractor. A focus on quality, attention to detail and superior service and communication skills set Chris apart. Raincap Construction is licensed, bonded, and insured and builds new homes, additions and remodels.

Description of Work: Chris Peterson of Raincap Construction came to my house and surveyed the site and house in order to provide an estimate for the project, which is to convert an unused attic space of a 1-story, 900 sq ft., 1929 house, located in the Judson Park area of Seattle into a 2nd story habitable area containing a bedroom, bathroom closet and exercise room. Since this involves a considerable amount of remodeling of quite an old house, it's a fairly complex job. The project would add almost 500 sq. ft. of livable space to the house. He was very knowledgeable and courteous and quite willing to work with me in terms of what aspects of the project we would each be responsible for. Although I'm in the process of getting an estimate from another company (being advised strongly to do so from many sources), my experience with Chris, and the excellent reviews of his company's work on Angie's list lead me to favor contracting with Raincap for this project. Should this happen, I will submit of review of the work done.

Description of Work: Converted a bedroom into a bathroom. This included getting plumbing/sewage through a garage wall. Tearing up flooring, framing of shower, framing of 2 closets, supporting of new floor(tile with heat) from below. Installation of all fixtures and accessories and fully tiled shower and 3' tile Wainscoting. The work was beautifully done the way we wanted Chris and his team are very professional. They worked in our house when we were away. Our home was always as clean ad we left it.We felt comfortable having them come and go. In the end they ran over their estimated completion date but only by days. We were anxious though as we were expecting a baby any day. They were aware of our concerns and worked hard to get done before baby came. We love our new bathroom. I will try and get some pics up.

Chris came a few days before the start date to do his estimate. He was professional, asked the right questions and provided a few suggestions. He then sent me an estimate that evening and I hired him to do the job. He told me when he was able to come and that it would take 4-6 hours of his time. He was prompt, fully prepared to do the job, provide all his own equipment and happily worked from start to finish. It was a very pleasant experience overall.
Description of Work: Chris Peterson came out to my home to give me an estimate on replacement of some baseboards in three rooms of my home. He was the only one willing to do so from a number of contractors I called. His estimate was precise, accurate and reasonable for the job. He then did the job for me and was fully ready to do the work when he arrived ON TIME, bringing his own saw, saw horse, vacuum for clean up and tarps to keep my carpet clean as he worked.

Thank you for taking the time to document your experience. It was a pleasure helping you and your family, you are very kind. I wish you all the best, Chris
Description of Work: Refinished our basement. New bathroom, Media/family room, childrens playroom, hallway and stairwell. Chris did an absolutely fantastic job estimating the scope of the job, price, details, organizing crew, etc. Here is what he did in short: Demoed old existing area, framing, structural engineering, electrical, plumbing, sheet rock, cleaning & dump run, port-o-potty for subcontractors, tile work, custom cabinets, custom shower, finishing, painting, carpet, plus so many other little details like keeping crew in check and working around my families schedule. I've worked and hired other contractors but Chris is by far the best. He's got great experience, professionalism, and knows all the best subcontractors. This is the first time I'v had someone be EXACTLY on budget and on time. He'll tell you how it is and has great ideas. Not to mention he's a friendly and cool guy. I would recommend him to all my friends. Our new basement is awesome.

Chris Peterson did a start-to-finish great job. While his workmanship was good, his experience from previous projects and the advice he gives is a tremendous value to clueless homeowners like us. We were in the final days of preparing for our first baby to arrive and had a mountain of possible projects we were considering. A few projects that appeared to be easy to us in our 1924 house could have turned into multi-thousand dollar, long-term projects, but thanks to Chris's advice, we cherry picked the ones that were the best bang for our buck. Chris also found some very helpful options that we hadn't thought of including repairing the outlet described above (it had been installed improperly before- just hanging in the wall, not in a backbox), replacing it with a GFI outlet, and extending the circuit through the wall so we no longer need a long extension cord running the length of the wall (a very helpful feature when you have kids crawling around). Chris took the time to do a good job transitioning from the new sheetrock portion of the wall to the existing lath and plaster areas that we wanted to keep in place. Looking at the work today, it's still pretty impressive.
Description of Work: Chris Peterson of Raincap demolished a failing lath and plaster living room wall that had been put in place by a previous owner in order to cover up a removed fireplace. After demolition, Chris placed up-to-code structure into the wall (where there had been none), repaired and extended an existing circuit, and installed and finished sheetrock to marry up to the remaining plaster wall areas. Chris also repaired and filled in the gaps around a new bathroom fan I installed that had different dimensions than the previous fan.

Thanks! Best of luck to you and the growing family!!!
We went with Chris as our general contractor for this remodel largely because of his willingness to provide thoughtful design options and suggestions during the planning stages. This trend continued throughout the construction project as he brought up ways to improve and develop things as we went along. We were happy with his sub-contractors, particularly the framing and finish carpenters and the electrician. The timeline was impressive--just over 2 months from start to finish. We had a young child in the house throughout the project, and Chris (and his subs) were always respectful of our needs and kept the living space downstairs as clean as possible.
Description of Work: Demo of existing 2 rooms in finished attic including removal of central wall; Structural enhancements to support roof; Framing of master bedroom, bathroom, and closet; Vaulting of bedroom ceiling; Finish work including built-in shelves; Tile; Carpet; Paint/stain; Install fixtures

Thanks for taking the time to fill out a great report, I know they are time consuming. You guys were truly a pleasure to work for. It is very nice to work for an Owner who takes the time in advance to figure out exactly what they are doing and what materials they are using. It makes my job much easier. Best of luck to you and your growing family!!!

I thought the project was a complete success! I couldn't have been happier with how the house looked when the project was finished. Chris and his crew did excellent, on time, on budget work. Chris was full of great ideas to maximize changes while staying in budget. Chris is very responsive and has great communication skills - he was open to the changes I wanted to make and offered up great suggestions of his own. I thought Chris managed the sub contractors well and his crew was professional. I have recommended Chris to friends and family, many of who have hired him and been very happy.
Description of Work: I've hired Chris Peterson from Raincap Construction for 2 jobs - a smaller one at my primary residence and for a large job at a rental property I own. The work was excellent and I felt that bid was very good for the amount of work performed. The rental was in pretty bad shape when I bought it and Chris and his crew more or less did a top to bottom overhaul, including: New roof with extended front gable and craftsman style braces (designed by Chris). New exterior window trim. Exterior paint. Slate tile on front porch. New porch railing and beadboard porch ceiling. Refinished hardwood floors. Crown molding and chair rail. New bathroom, including replacing the sub floor. Adding new dishwasher. Painting existing kitchen cabinets - including having a new cabinet made to match existing ones. New furnace. Interior paint. New carpet. New lighting. New sod and landscaping.
