I have already written a previous review for Angie's List. We had one sofa and one arm chair reupholstered. They complied with all my requests for materials (organic fabric, no toxic chemicals or finishes, latex foam) and the finished products were very attractive. It was expensive. I have wanted to publish a followup review because, after our previous review, they called us at home and attempted to coerce me into changing the wording in our review. I was not at home; they spoke to my husband. Their issue was my emphasis on the expense. I believe they found one word objectionable. I will not change my review. I gave them credit for excellent work and materials but my husband and I found their phone call offensive and unnecessary. In regard to expense, around the same time, I took two antique armless wooden chairs in for an estimate for repairing the legs (re-gluing and repairing one cross bar that had split). They would not refinish (strip) the chairs but would "clean them up a little." The quote was $1,200. My friend was with me and we both thought the quote was extremely high. After two employees consulted in private, they offered a 5% discount which was not acceptable. They may be appropriate for those for whom money is no object but not for a retired person on pension. I believe the cost was over $7,000 (it's been several years and I haven't looked at the receipt recently) for one sofa and one chair. The work was beautiful. I would like to add that an off-gassing smell lingered in the house for over a week after the delivery. I had requested no toxic chemicals, including fire-retardant, which they agreed to. The odor eventually went away and they said it was probably just the materials used. Service date is approximate; I would have to check the receipt.

I took in an old decrepit chair wondering if it could be saved. Henryk spend a lot of time going over colors with me. The chair had to be taken completely apart, down to the individual pieces, striped and refinished, put back together, upholstered and I don't know what else. The final product---absolutely gorgeous. I rated the price as N/A. I didn't actually do any price comparison. It was expensive, but oh so worth it! The photos tell the real story!

I have many memories of days as a teenager (in the 50's!) when I spent many hours dangling my legs over the arms reading Nancy Drew mysteries during summer vacations I spent in Kentucky with my grandmother. When Mimi passed away (2000), I transported the chair to Seattle, hoping to reupholster it some day. It had gotten pretty ragged by now and I knew it would cost a pretty penny to have the chair restored. I wanted it "done right" and waited until last Fall to have the work done. After considering several Seattle upholstery vendors, I was most comfortable with the professionalism of the staff at Queen Anne Upholstery company. I chose an espresso brown leather and Queen Anne Upholstery totally rebuilt and reupholstered the chair. Now, Mimi's "old" chair is beautiful again - a keepsake! And, it will be a wonderful gift to pass on to my children and grandchildren. Thank You Queen Anne Upholstery staff!!!
Description of Work: Reupholstered an old (very old) channel-back chair.

I made arrangements for them to pick up the dressers prior to me moving from one home. It rook over a month, as they explained.. then they delivered to my new home.
Description of Work: i have had a bedroom dresser set for 30 years. It was solid cherry, but in an ugly mustard overtone and bunged and burned in one spot. They refished them and it looks better than when I bought it. Finished in a medium cherry finish and all of the dents and burns were gone - like new. Love their work.

They do a lot of furniture and wood restoration as well as upholstery. I believe they are one of the only games in town for this type of work. They paid attention to what we wanted and they kept us informed and met all the estimates. We are very happy with the result. After they stripped and sanded the door they did ask us down to the shop to try out stain colors. They are very open to participation. I have no negative comments.
Description of Work: I used Queen Anne Upholstery for my front door restoration in July. They stripped the door and sanded it and repaired and stained it and then reinstalled it.

I recently brought in 2 more dining room chairs to have the seats replaced (again, I provided the needlepoint). This time the price I was quoted was double what I had paid in April 2012 (over $750 to have the 2 seats replaced and the feet of the chairs touched up). There was no negotiation. I took my chairs home and will have someone else do the work. Previously, I had paid $374 for my 2 chairs which I thought was high. No way was I going to pay double for the same work.
Description of Work: I had several living room chairs, love seat, and sofa done this summer. I also had Queen Anne Upholstery put on new seats on 2 dining room chairs. I provided the needlepoint to go on the seats. The workmanship was excellent. The price, however, was steep.

I contacted this company because I originally tried to contact Ballard Refinishers and discovered that they joined forces. I had been very happy with Ballard Refinishers in several instances, so decided to continue to do business with them as a part of Queen Anne Upholstery et al. Contact was made in 10-2012 and their representative promptly came to my home to discuss what work I was interested in having done and estimated cost for each item. My situation then changed somewhat and I decided to only pursue repair of two furniture items at this time. I'm looking forward to the same quality of workmanship I previously experienced when I pick up the items at the end of the year.
Description of Work: Dropped off 2 pieces of furniture for repair based on previous estimate. Process handled well to date. Items to be completed by the end of the year.

Lanae responded the same day and gave me estimates to repair the damage. I also asked for estimate to reupholster and she responded with labor costs and fabric cost range. I decided that having them repair the claw damage was less expensive than reupholstering or buying a new sofa. Lanae helped me chose fabric for the back of the sofa since the original fabric in back would be removed and used to repair the damaged areas. Even though the fabric had to be special ordered the work was completed in less than 2 weeks. The repaired areas look brand new and the back fabric isn't a perfect match but I am happy with the results. I would post photos of before and after but I don't see instructions on this site on how to do so.

Ballard Refinishers were great to work with. It was easy to get a bid - I simply submitted photos via email. They were able pick-up my furniture (and drop it off). These services made things very convenient. When the pieces had been stripped and sanded, they asked me to come to the shop to pick stains in person. I got to see my pieces partway through the process. The bookcases in particular looked fantastic - even unstained. The final results were ever better. I am extremely happy with the quality of the workmanship for all 3 pieces. I received multiple bids to refinish these 3 pieces and Ballard Refinishers's bid came in as the lowest. This actually made me think twice about hiring them. However, I am so glad I went with them. I didn't overpay and my furniture looks great. (I just inherited a dining room table and chairs that need some help and plan to take them to Ballard Refinishers.)

Henryk came out first to get an idea of what we wanted and then returned with the carpenter/furniture builder, Ron. We paid to have a professionally-drawn rendering of how it would look but this price was applied to our final payment. We decided to go ahead with the wall exactly as Ron had drawn it and he did not disappoint. With Henryk helping us to choose the type of wood and the fabric for the built-in seat, it ended up as a beautiful, permanent piece of furniture rather than just a contractor's project. Ron is a true craftsman and took great care to make sure everything was just right. We almost hated to put the books in the shelves because it covered up the gorgeous wood! It is actually even prettier than we imagined it would be after seeing the initial drawings. It was expensive but their price was in the same range as what other contractor's would have charged and they stayed within their original estimate. It also took a bit longer than we had planned but it was worth the wait.
Description of Work: (This review is based more on the newly-acquired Ballard Refinishers ). We originally had an open upstairs loft bedroom that we wanted enclosed with a wall of bookshelves. These were installed with storage cabinets below and a built-in seating area. Also, a door was added.

I contacted this company 3 times over 5 days about a repair job to a large piece of furniture in our home, once by email, twice by phone. On each phone call I spoke with real people, one of whom promised that someone would call back "within about 30 minutes", the other of whom transferred me to the voice mailbox of the production manager, where I left a message. None of my 3 messages/calls were ever returned. It strikes me as unprofessional to ignore prospective customers – even if this company doesn't want or need the work.

I specifically chose one of the in-house fabrics because I wanted the job done in a few weeks (rather than taking the time to have a custom fabric ordered). The woman helping me told me it would take about a week. When I hadn't heard from them in almost a month, I stopped by and was told that the job wasn't done. I'm pretty sure it was even the same saleswoman who helped me, and she denied that I had originally been told that it would take about a week. They did get it done about a week after that. But they called me twice to try to "upsell" me: did I want a new foam insert for the cushion ($168) or a stain-proofing treatment ($60ish). The cushion insert was fine (it was always covered) and I could easily buy a can of Scotchguard for less than $10. When I picked up the cushions, everything looked fine. I had to ask for the extra fabric that was left-over (there were a couple of yards) and it took them a while to hunt it up. Overall, not a great experience, with not great customer service. The quality of the work was ok, but it was definitely pretty spendy compared with the other places I talked to. There's a sign at the desk offering a $5 Starbucks card if you leave them a positive review on Angieslist or Yelp. I'd rather be honest. Oh, and I asked for the Angieslist discount, but they wouldn't honor it unless I printed out the coupon, although I offered to pull it up on my phone. Also, after I submitted this review I was contacted by Angies List because the provider denied that I had ever been a customer! I had to find and submit my invoice before this review could be published...

They picked up a large wing chair from my home, reupholstered it, and brought it back. I spent about $300 on the job. The job went very well. They did a free estimate. They were accurate about how long the work would take, what it would entail, and how much it would cost. They finished the work in a timely fashion. I will use them again in the future.

The fumes and lack of complete info were enough for me to decide not to work with them, but when I saw the sign about rewarding people for positive reviews, I was disgusted.
Description of Work: This company offers Starbucks gift cards in exchange for positive reviews on Angie's List and other review websites. I was there today and they have a sign stating this right on their counter. I was appalled. I have emailed Angie's List about this but wanted to post on here too. I was looking for someone to repair leather couch cushions that my dogs tore up. I had emailed several times with them and they always responded promptly. However the woman I emailed with neglected to give me all the info I needed, so I made a trip into their store that was unnecessary. I went with my sick toddler and would have much preferred to stay home with him while he was sick rather than make a trip that was unnecessary. Additionally the space had horrible fumes so we could not stay in the room more than a few minutes.
