Description of Work: I was not prepared for the final expense of refinishing my chairs and would not have opted to have the work done had I known in advance the ultimate cost. Repairs (regluing) were recommended only after the chairs were disassembled. I did authorize the additional work at that point but would have appreciated an estimate of what was needed at the outset. The work was of good quality and the staff were helpful in working with me.

We are very happy with our newly restored couch and would highly recommend QA Upholstery to all that needs help. Their customer service and responsiveness via email and telephone are exemplary. Kudos to them!
Description of Work: We had a 5 year old leather couch that we purchased from a furniture store and the custom dye on the leather had deteriorated. Queen Anne Upholstery restored the couch and it looks better than new. More importantly, Seth at QA Upholstery provided excellent customer service by being responsive and as pleasant as could be. The receptionist and fellows that helped me load the couch into my truck were great as well!

This bedroom set had been passed down to me from my grandmother--it was a wedding present from her father, given to her in 1919. I have had the set for about 20 years. When I got it, the mirror had been damaged by sitting in direct sunlight so there were broad streaks and distortions in the silvering. The wooden parts of the furniture were peppered with dents and scratches--plus the 100-year-old finish was starting to break down so it felt slightly tacky when you touched it. The furniture was very rickety; glue had come undone, drawer stops had come loose on the dresser, and the bed frame swayed each time you adjusted yourself on the bed. I didn't know if it was even worth fixing and refinishing it because it wasn't exactly top of the line furniture, just medium grade. I found Ballard Refinishers on Angie's List. They had received excellent reviews and ratings, so I called them. They made an appointment to come over to my eastside home and their estimator arrived promptly at the appointed time. He was very professional and gladly gave me information about my furniture, he knew that the set was made from poplar, something I wouldn't have guessed. He closely inspected it, taking notes, and said he would have the estimate done within a week. Also while he was at my house he took a look at a couple of miscellaneous small pieces I had and suggested I use Howard's Restore-a-Finish and Clean & Feed to improve their appearance and condition. (I did later, and he was right; these products worked wonders on the small table and straight-back chair!). Sharon at Ballard Refinishers, promptly delivered the estimate via e-mail 1 week later and indicated a time they could pick up the furniture, refinish it, and deliver it back. There was a 2 month wait to get the furniture into their refinishing queue, but Sharon clearly communicated that so there were no nasty surprises. They also requested a 50% deposit when the furniture was picked up, a completely fair request. The Ballard Refinisher truck came promptly on the day they were supposed to. The staff were polite and professional. They kept my furniture in their refinishing shop for about a month (precisely the time they estimated), and they contacted me to make an appointment to deliver it. They delivered right on time, and I was overwhelmed with the results. The furniture looked beautiful--their work far exceeded my expectations. In addition to restoring the finish to its original hue, they had taken the set apart, reglued everything, resilvered the mirror, and they meticulously preserved the shipping label affixed to the inside of the bed frame. I asked them to preserve it because it is addressed to my great-grandfather, who bought the bedroom set for my grandmother's wedding present and had it shipped down the Mississippi River on a barge to the small river town where my grandmother lived. They did preserve it, encasing it in a transparent shield so it would be there a long time. I love it.
Description of Work: Refinished 100-year-old wooden bedroom set (bed=headboard, footboard, wooden frame; dresser+mirror) and had the original dresser mirror resilvered.

We couldn't be more pleased. From start to finish the experience was easy and fun. First I stopped by their shop with photos and to get an estimate on reupholstering (that was beyond our budget) but they mentioned that they could come to our home to make an estimate on refurbishing and repairing the existing leather. They came promptly on the day of the estimate, described in detail what would be done, gave us a time frame (about 2 weeks) and lived up to every word of their promise. Everyone - from estimator to delivery people to the people who did the work - was amazing.
Description of Work: Our beloved 10 year old very worn large leather sectional was torn, ripped, stained (dogs and teenagers), and generally looking very shabby. The wonderful people at Queen Anne refurbished the entire sofa, including cleaning, sewing, refinishing and re-stuffing the cushions. It looks brand new and we are thrilled! We saved at least $5000 on the cost of replacing it with something similar.

They came and gave me an estimate for repairing, refinishing, and modifying the frame slightly so that a full size box spring and mattress would fit the frame. The estimate was for approximately $1,000 but he told me it could be more depending on the amount of repair work that had to be done. I agreed to the estimate and they came and picked the bed up. The work took several weeks to complete but the results were magnificent. The bed is a showpiece now. I couldn't be happier.
Description of Work: I have a beautiful cherry wood antique bed that had been in my family for years. The headboard had been damaged by water and the frame was broken and had to be held together with pieces of 2 x 4. The size was smaller than a full but bigger than a twin so we had to buy full size mattresses for it and cut them down so they would fit. I asked for an estimate on having the bed refinished and repaired.

Made an appt for a home visit to obtain an estimate for slip cover of a small sofa and the rebuild and re-upholstery of a club chair and that the rep bring out samples of white twill and linen. Day of the appt the owner did not call until 10 mins after the time of the appt to say he was just leaving the showroom and he couldn't bring the samples as there were just to many. I restated my request: that I am only interested in white twills or linens. He insisted that a trip by me into his showroom would be the only way to choose a fabric. I informed him that was inconvenient as I work 7 days a week and don't own a car. He maintained his position & suggested I just take a photo of the furniture and email it to him for an estimate. I must add that I dealt with this company approx 4-5 years ago and I was feeling hesitant to again. After my interaction with the owner I remembered why; he is not in anyway accommodating & failed the job interview. There are other fish in the sea.

Our experience started out okay. They have tons of fabrics to choose from. We wanted drapes and only one person at the store does that (Terry Porter). It took multiple attempts to get an appointment and when we did, she arrived 2 hours late. We wanted info on two window treatments and had chosen two fabrics for each. When we asked for estimates to compare the prices for the different fabrics, she made us feel like we were asking the world. Lastly, it took more than a week for her to get us the estimate and only after we called her to get the information.

Rec'd a helpful and thorough estimate. Due to their workload, we scheduled the work for about 3 months later. They stuck to the date, came on time to remove the door and board up the front. Completed the work in about a week and half. Came on time to reinstall the door and check the locks. Friendly, prompt service and the door looks renewed. Well worth the investment to have the door refinished, which was less money than a new door.

We stopped by the store to look at remnants, to see if there was anything we liked to lower the price of the job, and we found some very nice fabrics. The estimator came to our house and provided us with a quote, based on the fabrics we had chosen. He took the furniture with him the same day and the job was finished within about 2 weeks. We were very happy with the results.

Ian Dore, owner, examined the piece at our house, described the process, and presented a bid. He explained that the whole process could take two months. After the old finish was removed, we went to the shop in Ballard to inspect it and pick a stain color and finish. Mr. Dore offered his opinion of the best stain color and finish and we accepted his advice. When he delivered the piece two weeks ahead of the original schedule, we were very happy we accepted his advice. The finished court cupboard looks better than ever. We were pleased with the process from beginning to end and would use this company again.
Description of Work: Kellys refinished an old court cupboard that had some water damage. The process involved removing all of the old finish, removing the water damage, hand sanding the carved detail areas, and applying stain and finish. The piece is approximately 5 feet wide, 4+ feet high, and 1.5 feet deep with detailed carved posts and drawer faces.

They provided a detailed and written estimate that showed everything that would be done to the chair. There was one thing on there that I wanted omitted, and they took it off. The cost was exactly as the estimate stated. They were professional. The owner seems to know what everything will cost and how it will turn out. They had the fabric I wanted in stock and used it. I inspected the chair and found their work to be very high quality. It was a very good experience.
