Description of Work: This was the 3rd time I took my lawn mower in this spring/summer. The first time was for a general tune-up/maintenance. However, when I got it home it would not start so I had to take it in again. They checked it over, said there was no problem and sent it home with me. Though I did not get the quick start I was accustomed to, I was able to start it until mid-August when again it would not start. This time when I took it in they said I was not getting a spark (something I could have told them after trying to start it with absolutely no results) and needed to have ignition coil replaced. It seems to be working now but I just wish that this issue could have been discovered and resolved on my initial visit rather than having to return. Each time I pull my lawn mower out I still wonder if it will start.

Description of Work: Pete tuned up my vintage self-propelled reel lawnmower with a 2 HP Briggs and Stratton engine. He adjusted one wheel, replaced the broken spring on the pull rope and replaced the rope and handle. It starts with one pull, runs smoothly and is like new! His prices are significantly lower than other shops. He returns calls immediately and is very knowledgeable. He works on all types of small engines and operates out of his well equipped garage.

Description of Work: Pete replaced the carburetor that was fouled from being left with gas in it over the winter. I was under the false impression that by running the engine until it stalled would use all the gas. My bad. Gas still remains in the bowl of the carburetor that needs to be drained out. |If I had done it myself I could have probably save $50. |He did a good job, just pricey. But it is probably the going rate.

Description of Work: Pete tuned up my lawn mower, replaced an engine part, and drained and refilled the fluids. He gave me a pamphlet on continuing care of my mower that was clearly very well researched. He lives just down the street from me so it was great to support a very local small business.

Description of Work: Fixed my mower, I called Sunday he said bring it over , I did and he replaced the recoil rope, cleaned the carburetor, loosened an interlock switch and boom it started. It had stalled in the middle of mowing, he did the work while I waited! New mower would have been $350..he charged 60 and good as new. Very few shops of his type around anymore.

 + -1 moreI dropped my mower off at 2:30 pm and by 5:30 the same day Pete had called to say it was finished. When I picked up the mower Pete had me start it and showed me the service he performed. I loved the fact that he had all the parts on site and that he took care of the entire machine, not just the blade and oil. Great service!
Description of Work: Tune-up on my lawn mower including spark plug, oil, and sharpening the blade. Pete also fixed a wiggly wheel and found an unsafe part holding the blade on.

 + -1 moreOn Saturday my son ran over a pruning tool that someone threw onto the lawn.The mower would not keep running. I called Pete the next day(Sunday) and he asked if I could bring the mower in that day. He finished the job in two hours! WOW! He also told me my mower blade was as dull as the back of a butter knife. LOL! Pete did a great job and I would highly recommend him to anyone. Great price as well. He definitely beats the bigger companies as far as getting my mower in to get fixed. I would usually have to wait 3 to 7 days to get may mower worked on. Pete knows his stuff!
Description of Work: Complete tune up of my Honda mower. Plugs, fuel and air filters. Cleaned fuel tank and lines. Sharpened and balanced blade.

 + -1 moreIt went great. It was easy to get a hold of him. Left a voice mail, he got back to me quickly. He was available to meet me when I dropped it off. If he wasn't there, it would've been fine to drop it off in back of his house/workshop. He told me he had an emergency commercial job that he got called to do, so would it be alright if he got it back to me in the next couple of days. I said no problem. turns out, he was able to get it done by the end of my work day and get it back to me. he had me start it up before I took it home. He works fast, he knows lawnmowers. I would totally recommend him to a friend.
Description of Work: My 6 year lawn mower was not bagging well, felt underpowered, and would backfire, and be hard to start. Pete flushed out and cleaned all the old oil and gas, sharpened the blades, replaced air filter and spark. It works as good as new.

 + -1 moreI had an excellent experience taking my non-starting lawn mower to Pete. He runs his business out of the garage in back of his home on Beacon Hill. I called him on a Saturday morning, took the mower in that morning and he had it fixed by the end of the day. Pete is a friendly guy who got my mower running with the first pull of the cord. The fee was reasonable; $68 included all parts, labor, and tax for a full tune-up. He gave me a detailed invoice. The turn-around time was faster than I had expected. I'd give him an A+.

The ones that appeared to be good all said it would take a week or two to get my lawn mower fixed, but my dandelion problem needed to be addressed more immediately. I dropped it off one evening and picked it up, running perfectly, the next. Pete works out of his house. He doesn't have regular hours, but he's very reachable by phone, and the whole process was more convenient for me than it would have been if I had gone to a shop open 7 days a week.
Description of Work: My lawn mower hadn't been used in a few years and my attempts at a tune-up didn't help. I finally took the thing to Pete's Small Engine Repair. He gave it a tune up, cleaned out old gas, etc.
