I contacted Jared based on the many positive reviews on Angie's List. A friend had installed a microwave-rangehood for me, but hadn't wanted to climb in the attic and cut a hole in the roof, so it was "vented" into the attic. He'd also had trouble installing the microwave. I didn't think the microwave was venting correctly (lots of grease was coming out the front of the microwave), but my friend assured me he'd followed the instructions. Jared made an appointment, and showed up on time. He spent considerable time with me, and even took a look in the attic just to get an idea of what he would be working with. I also had several other projects we discussed, but the microwave was my priority. He said he'd have a proposal back to me within a week. Within a week I had a proposal for all projects. It clearly listed the work to be done, and the cost for each project. I accepted the proposal for the microwave, signed the proposal, and sent a deposit of 50%. Jared told me where I was on his schedule, gave me an estimate of when he would be available to start, and that he wouldn't cash the check until the job was begun. When he arrived to work on the project, it was raining. Jared rehung the microwave-rangehood, found the venting problem (a damper that was stuck closed), and brought the existing ductwork up to code. Because it was raining, we decided NOT to cut a hole in the roof that day! He came back within 3 weeks and finished the job. While he was in the attic, he visually inspected the ductwork for the bathroom fan (a project for another day). While he was on my roof attaching the vent cap, he performed a visual inspection of my roof and gutters. He even oiled the gate he used to come and go! He took pictures of the venting in the attic and the vent cap on the roof. Jared's work is exacting, and everything is up to code. He educated me on multiple processes along the way. He's easy to work with, and very forthright. I would absolutely recommend his services, and would not hesitate to call him again.
Description of Work: Reinstalled microwave-rangehood combination, and vented same through the roof.

Work began as soon as we'd approved everything and given Jared our downpayment. When the concrete pad was removed, the support beam under the front door was exposed and we discovered dry rot. Jared handled everything quickly and professionally, and made it very easy for us to correct the problem and ensure the new work was up to code. He thoughtfully documented all of the steps so that we'd have it on record for potential future buyers. Once this problem was managed things moved ahead quickly and well. Jared was tremendously professional and communicative throughout, keeping us up to date on the project status and alerting us immediately if there were decisions that needed to be made. He was informative and respectful, and made great recommendations when we weren't sure how to proceed. The finished entry is just what we'd hoped for. It looks like part of the house, has increased the curb appeal to an incredible degree (beyond words) and has extra details that Jared suggested that make it really special - copper rainchains instead of downspouts (I'd never even heard of them before), sustainable and beautiful Tigerwood for the deck (it's a gorgeous hardwood that will not be damaged by our dogs, as cedar would have been), and natural wood for the ceiling of the entry roof to give everything an extra warm and inviting feeling. Jared is a man of his word, and always showed up when he said he would, returned calls and emails promptly, and did work exactly as agreed upon. If there were ever any changes or if he was going to be late, he always called so we never ever were left to wonder what was going on, or where he was as sometimes happens with contracted labor! We really appreciated this. He holds himself to a very high personal standard of conduct and service, and makes sure things are not only done but done right. One example is that after everything was completed, we noticed a little bit of seepage coming from the seams in the gutter. It wasn't damaging anything, and I probably could have lived with it, but Jared (at his own expense I should add) pulled the gutters off and replaced them with new, seamless ones so they were completely watertight and perfect. These little things matter to him, so rest assured even if you don't know or can't tell that there is a problem, Jared will spot it, tell you about it, and take care of it. He was a complete pleasure to work with, he's a lovely human being, and has genuine integrity. We're planning to hire Jared again in the future for some other interior and exterior projects.
Description of Work: We hired Jared to remodel the front entry to our little 1900's Craftsman gable-front bungalow. This required him to remove an existing flat awning (unsupported roof) above the front door as well as the poured concrete entry area. The house is small and simple, and the sagging awning gave it a very sad and depressed look as well as making the house appear run down (which it's not.) We asked him to replace all of this with a brand new portico-type of entry that would be harmonious with Craftsman-style construction as well as a new mini-deck to replace the concrete pad. We didn't need it to be historically accurate, just to create a proper entrance experience that felt inviting and homey but would add some class to the structure! He designed a great structure in perfect scale with the house, and details that echoed its structure.

This was a small job for Jared to take on that he was able to complete in between jobs on 3-4 days. From the beginning, Jared was an excellent communicator with detailed and accurate estimates. He kept us posted with regard to scheduling on his end and was very accommodating with our schedule (we were trying to coordinate this between our painter and having our floors refinished). His work is *clean*, precise, and respectful of our home. In addition, he has high quality standards. A portion of our picture rail did not stain correctly and instead of installing it, he fixed the stain, and completed the job the next day. We would be more than happy to hire Method Carpentry again.
Description of Work: We hired Method Carpentry to install new picture rail molding (some was pre painted and some was stained to match by MC), refinish baseboard, refinish door molding, install new wood hearth to flooring transition, and remove old molding caps and old picture rail.

Description of Work: Jared designed and installed an overhang above my deck , much like a legless pergola. I absolutely love it. But more importantly, I appreciate Jared's meticulousness and attention to detail. He made great recommendations and took great care in preparing the cedar planks and my deck. Our small condominium complex (10 units) had wood frame decks that were leaking over the years which caused extensive rotting to both the decks and interiors. The problem was driven by poor initial construction....decks were not sloped properly, lack of flashing, poor waterproofing membranes, etc. Jared took on the project on a time and materials basis. He brought in an inspector to evaluate the root cause of the problem and then drafted a plan of action for each deck. He demolished the existing decks down to the framing, replaced damaged joists, installed new rail framing and sheathing, properly sloped and properly flashed each deck. The reason I am so impressed with Jared and would recommend his services is his extreme attention to detail and generally meticulous nature. It's not a front, it's who is actually is at heart. He is incredibly knowledgeable about construction techniques and carpentry in general. The project took a few months months due to the size and by the end of it I had come to firmly trust and respect his work. I would meet with Jared a few times a week and he would take a few minutes each time to explain what he was doing and how he was doing it. His attention to detail was always impressive. If you are looking for a company to knock out a cheap and fast patch job Method is not it. If you are looking for a company that will do quality work meant to last through the years, at a fair price, I would highly recommend Method.

Jarrud did a great job. I had a several estimates for this work. They were all within $100. of each other, but, disappointingly all were much more than I hoped for. Since I wanted the work to be done correctly, I selected Method Finish for the work. Amongst those that looked at the problem, I felt that Jarrud did the best at explaining the rationale for his approach, and he gave a complete written estimate with quote. He showed up on the scheduled day, even called the day before to confirm, and completed the work on the same day.

There were a few "surprises" found - not really a surprise if you have ever owned a 70 year old home - Jared adapted and was able to modify and make everything work after a quick trip for a few more supplies to deal with what he found after removing the old door and frame. The level of attention to detail and thoroughness that was given to insure that I won't be having problems with air or water on the exposed side of my house was refreshing and the new door works so much better than any door in the house. i have also received several complements from friends and relatives, and have given referals to two of them to have Jared do work on doors.
Description of Work: My south-facing back door finally was showing it's age and not always latching or locking fully after 70 years). I had Jared give me a bid for a new Fiberglass Entry door and frame, painted and installed. This is the side of the house that gets all the wind, rain, sun, snow - everything in addition to being the primary entry for me and visiting friends.

Jared was wonderful to work with. He works very carefully and is very detail oriented. I researched porches on other homes in our area and our vintage and Jared and I spent a lot of time getting the design right and to look more appropriate and more like the home's original. The new porch is extremely well built and built to avoid future water damage. Because we were dealing with water damage our billing was time and materials instead of from a bid. The damage was far more extensive than Jared or I had expected (including having to replace much of the sub-structure and supports of the porch) and ended up taking longer and costing more than expected. I would hire Jared again in a moment!
Description of Work: We had water damage on the flooring of our front porch. Jared found the source of the problem (bad materials and design when it was built), removed all the damaged materials and then restored the porch. Our home is historic and Jared was very sensitive to that fact and worked closely with me to re-design it.
Jared is a fantastic carpenter with great attention to detail. We have used him on multiple projects and will use him again. While he is typically a little bit more pricey than some competitors, his work is definitely worth it. The amount of questions and detail he puts into the estimate shows how through he is with his projects and that is what sells me. When someone comes over for an estimate and asks 4-5 questions I get suspicious about the quality of their work. Jared thinks about the little details, which really shows in the end. He consults with you each step of the way for input on detail and gives his own ideas about how to best handle the situation. Definitely would recommend Jared and will use him on our next project.
Description of Work: We had a bench next to our front door that was starting to rot so we had that removed and a new deck built in its place. The deck is smaller in size (not a huge area for it) but is stylish and has stairs built on a tricky slope. He spent quite a bit of time making the stairs perfectly stable and matched the theme of the deck layout. The detail and finish work on the deck is beautiful. It looks like it belongs in a Fine Homes magazine. The deck is made of Trex and cedar and after applying some rosewood oil (per Jared's recommendation) it looks great. It is a real head turner and all the neighbors have commented on how nice it looks. Overall we are very happy with the project.

Jared was, simply put, phenomenal. He came into our home and immediately understood our design aesthetic and what we were going looking for in a new door. He worked with us to figure out our options (who knew there were so many variables in a front door?) and then worked with us to keep the costs within our budget. The end result--an amazing custom built door that is the envy of our neighborhood. People walking through the neighborhood go out of their way to compliment the door. Thanks so much, Jared , for a fantastic job.

Jared came by on 5/14 to look at a custom closet job. We have an old home with a lot of detail and he spent an hour with us. He took a lot of measurements and was polite and well informed. He told me to "do some homework" and research cabinet types, and send him an email with my choices and he would have numbers by end of week. I did so. He did not respond by end of week. On 5/24 he wrote and said he assumed I'd found someone else. I responded no, I was waiting to hear his numbers. He again promised to have them to me. On 6/2, I wrote and just asked if the numbers were forthcoming. He wrote back no.
Jared spent a lot of time with us, prior to any contractual commitments, going over design ideas for a complete kitchen makeover. His attention to design and his ability to assess our style preferences inspired our selection of which cabinetry and counter top manufacturers to choose. It was extremely beneficial that Jared had prior relationships with both of these firms. He was very good at working with these subcontractors when unexpected issues arose. Any and all issues were resolved to our satisfaction albeit adding to the overall time estimate for the entire project. Jared was able and willing to continue working on our project when it overlapped into work he had scheduled with another client. Very professional. If you are looking for a true artisan then you should seriously consider Jared Mauck.
Description of Work: Input on cabinet design and materials; subcontracted with custom cabinet builder; subcontracted with custom counter top manufacturer; cabinet installation; kitchen and bathroom tile installation; electrical work to bring wiring up to code; upgrade of plumbing for dishwasher and garbage disposal; appliance installation.

We bought our Madrona home this summer and knew from the beginning that the old basement door would need fixing. It was skewed, leaky and too thin (repurposed indoor door). Given the non-standard size of the door frame and the character of the house we ended up looking for someone who could do a custom job. Jared got the work and proved knowledgeable, friendly and professional. He and his brother did a careful job and even fixed a couple of things they noticed outside the house while they were there ! As we were settling the bill, Jared noticed a problem with our sink that needed addressing and came back a few days later to fix it. We are planning on changing another external door next year and will definitely rely on Method Finish for the work. Highly recommended.

The overall experience was excellent! Jared came by to see the work to be done and prepare a quote. He was on time, easy to talk to, gave his honest opinion, and really listened to what was important to me. When Jared received my accepted quote and deposit, he ordered the doors and had them painted/primed at his shop, and scheduled the work with me. Jared and his teammate Harley showed up for the 1st day, and while Harley, not Jared, did the work -- Harley did great work! We were extremely pleased. Here are things I really appreciated about Method Finish and the job they did: Work Ethic - Extremely approachable, great work, and they cared about doing a great job. Details are important. - Harley showed up every day on time and left on time. - At the end of each day that Harley was there, he cleaned up the area and made sure we had both doors in place locked for security. - Harley gave me a status update at the end of each day. I was also able to call him at any time on his cell.He was upfront about all the challenges, and had a great attitude throughout and said we will get it all fixed! Quality of the work and Attention to Detail - Doors look beautiful and they are low maintenance, which was something I was keen on. Paint looks great, framing, and areas around the doors which they also remodeled. - The job was difficult on the exterior door - the outside wall is way out of level, and it made hanging the door tricky. They did it perfectly and the door opens great and looks flush. - Harley took an extra day to redo a door - he hung it and thought of a different way to hang it, and came back the next day to redo. I only could tell the difference because he pointed it out to me, but it was better, and just showed how much they cared about details. - The work took 3 days, which may sound long, but it was because Jared's team paid extreme attention to detail and the weather was also not cooperating. Plus an extra day because of some redo work they did at no charge. - Extra work was done at no charge. There was rotted wood trim, damaged drywall and door sill, and old build out that was all replaced. Some of the materials we already had, and some Method provided, but they did the additional work for free. Value We got a lot for what we paid for. Our doors look beautiful, and Jared and Harley were wonderful to work with. At the end of the project, Jared reached out to me to make sure I was happy, which I definitely was, and we then settled the remainder of the amount I owed him. This was the most enjoyable contractor experience we've had yet. Thank you Method Finish!
Description of Work: Method Finish replaced two doors - one interior and one exterior. The interior door was a garage door to the inside of the house, and the exterior door was for the garage. The prior doors were old, in poor condition, and not very secure. The exterior door had been kicked in by a burglar which damaged the frame.

It went great. Jared recommend I buy some parts to help reduce the overall coss. I was able to find an IKEA panel that matched the rest of the kitchen. From that one piece of wood Jared was able to create a cabinet that matched the rest of the kitchen perfectly. Jared was thoughtful, respectful and very methodical in the way he approached our project. It seemed like a team project and in the end I am very pleased with the result. I would highly recommend him to your project as well.

Here is the report from our condo association president: I am very satisfied with Jared’s integrity and workmanship. He has an incredibly broad range of construction design and carpentry knowledge. Jared completed work on 3 exterior wood framed decks at my building. They had been leaking for years, resulting in damaged framing within the decks themselves that also extended into the adjacent building structure and interior around the sliders. He was very meticulous in his approach and planning from the start, bringing in an outside inspector in order to identify all aspects of the deck design, flashing systems, waterproof membrane and initial construction that were contributing to the water intrusion and would need to be rebuilt properly. Jared did all of the carpentry and flashing system work and brought in a waterproofing specialist to complete the top membrane. Because the extent of the damage would not be fully known until the decks were torn into I was happy to receive regular cost updates via excel spreadsheet. Jared has a ‘laid back’ personality that makes him very approachable. He was always willing to answer the many questions I had as he progressed through the project. I always felt very up to date and connected to the work being done. I feel lucky to have found a contractor who is trustworthy, meticulous and very skilled at what he does and will be using him again.

Jared was punctual and courteous during a visit to discuss our small bath remodel project, and we received a detailed written estimate. The proposal was for labor time and materials, with a large range of uncertainty regarding the required labor to complete the project. We weren't comfortable that there was a clear incentive to complete the project in a timely manner, though quality may have potentially been higher than competitors' work. In the end we decided to go with a competitor's fixed-price bid.
Description of Work: Phone call for information, visit at our house to discuss the bath remodel project, provision of a detailed written estimate, follow-up email correspondence.
Jared completely transformed our garage into a first-class studio apartment that belongs in the pages of Sunset Magazine. He's a rare breed among contractors ? honest, hardworking and incredibly detail oriented. His speciality is framing, trim and finishing - the detail work that makes the difference between making your project look serviceable and making it look professional. If you really want the finished product to look nice, Jared is your man. Great people skills too.
Description of Work: Conversion of a two-car garage into a studio apartment. Job included bathroom installation, framing, window install, French and bathroom door install, kitchen design and install, lighting, electrical, bamboo floor install and trim work.
Jared is our go to man. The plumbing under the sink was a work of art. I value Jared's opinions and we work together well. Much of the fine detail was Jared's. The cupboards feel smooth and sound. Some have glass fronts and it was J who thought to have the wood finish at the back of the cupboard, it sounds obvious but if not ordered that way it doesn't happen. At the start the island consisted of a box with 3 drawers and extra wood. It is a small island that includes a freezer, the space for the electrical was minuscule but in the end it worked. It is a small kitchen every inch counts. The mosaic behind the range was pieced together by Jared and me. It consisted of varied size round tiles & glass shards made to have the motion of steam. I don't know if that is what it looks like finished but it is gorgeous. The large pieces are 1 1/2", the smallest are centimeters. There is so much to say: plastered ceiling instead of drywall, satin smooth wood trim, screws covered by wood dots, hating corner lazy susans but loving the one I have, the list is long. In conclusion we ended up with a fantastic kitchen.
Description of Work: Took existing kitchen to the studs: plumbed using cooper pipe with new chrome shut off valves including an extra valve for future use, new electrical. All materials were of the highest quality: wall board, switches etc.. Ceiling was plastered, directional low voltage light placed. Frameless Douglas Fir Huggy Bear Cupboards were installed with custom low voltage under counter lighting and custom metal fabrication designed by Jared, placed over under counter refrigeration to support Caesar Stone counter top. Custom cabinetry included a 4'x3' stainless steel appliance garage, and an island with tray dividers, freezer, electrical and drawers designed and built on the spot. Steam oven installed in custom cupboard. Most of the kitchen was tile, with a beautiful glass tile mosaic behind range. The trim throughout the kitchen and family room was replaced with VG Fir highly waxed and 4 windows were replaced.

Overall, we were pleased with Jared. He is very conscientious and approached the job with a great deal of professionalism. He came up with optional solutions to fix our problem and kept in mind the cost of the undertaking. If he was unsure of something, he did not hesitiate to suggest an expert to give us more information. He coordinated with other contractors for the work he did not perform. He would call if he was not going to be on the job at the time he said. There was great communication. Thanks Jared!
Description of Work: Encouraged us to get a "water intrusion" inspector out to find the source of our leakage. Once defined and researched, came up with a couple of plans to fix the problem. Completely tore up the flooring on a cantilevered deck. Put a needed slope on the original joists. Laid new plywood flooring. Coordinated with a specialist to lay the new covering on the deck. Fixed dining room ceiling where water had leaked in from deck above.

I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused. I understand how important it is to make contact with new clients. I'm implementing some new changes in my company that will help me with this problem.
Jared is a true professional. He is conscientious and accommodating. A real easy guy to work with and have around the house for several weeks. I chose him to help with a partial kitchen remodel based on his reputation on Angie?s list after an initial meeting and discussions about job scope. I had already designed the remodel and I knew what I wanted for appliances and surface materials so what I really needed was someone who was good at implementing the plan. And I also wanted someone who was willing to make old work with new, rather than try to talk me into gutting the whole kitchen and starting from scratch. The house is a charming 1927 simple bungalow with the original kitchen cabinets intact. I wanted to keep the original cabinets, but improve the layout and work station arrangement (and do it in a way that I could afford). The remodel involved gutting a kitchen nook that was built with the house, but not as part of the basement foundation. A partial wall was removed and a header was raised up into the ceiling to open up the kitchen and the nook. A new window was installed. There was also a layout change involving the gas stove and fridge, along with the addition of a second prep sink and new cabinets. The nook had settled out of plumb so Jared expertly built new supports and added all new level sub flooring and flooring. He followed an engineer?s specs to raise the header and build a new one up in the ceiling. He removed a snake?s nest of old knob and tube wiring, and rewired most of the kitchen. I had hired a plumber who had worked on a previous remodel to lay plumbing and gas. Jared worked really well the plumbers (who were definitely not as easy to have around as Jared). We also consulted a plaster specialist form Angie?s to help fix some major ceiling cracks and plastering of the drywall Jared had installed in the nook. Jared was always willing to tackle anything, but he did not have a problem letting me know if he thought we needed to call in a specialist (I really appreciated this). He laid cork flooring for the first time, and it turned out great. Jared?s real specialty is carpentry work. He did a beautiful job getting the new cabinets absolutely plumb and level. He came up with a creative solution to finish off the old cabinet run where it met the stove ? no easy feat as it involved 50 year old tile that was cleaned up, re-installed, re grouted, and creatively finished with painted wood to blend with the old cabinet. This one had us stumped at the beginning, but the final solution turned out great, thanks to Jared?s ingenuity. I have already recommended Jared to several friends and co-workers because I am so pleased with how the kitchen turned out, and I am not easy to please by any means.
