My garbage disposal threw a screw and I called several plumbers to get bids on replacing/fixing the problem. All plumbers said it was not worth fixing a broken garbage disposal and we should get a new one installed. They were prompt in answering the phone and returning calls, and the serviceman came at the correct time and finished within half an hour. They had the best price and soonest availablility, so I was happy to work with them. When I saw the plumber using a saw to remove the garbage disposal, I knew it would not have been something I could have done myself. The repair was completed several weeks ago and we've had no problems with the name-brand replacement disposal, or any leaks/problems with the service done. We are very satisfied.

The gal who answered the phone suggested I text a picture of the problem area and got a pretty quick call back. They explained that all I needed to do was tighten some loosened treading with a wrench and I should be good to go. They patiently explained what to do (I am NOT a handy person) and saved me a service call. Their honesty and integrity earned them all my business in the future!

Arrived early, investigated various access points, offered alternatives with the first one did not work. Assured that the problem would be solved and did so. Made a recommendation for follow on service that was reasonable.
Description of Work: Line clean out that included having to use two different access points due to the design of the plumbing system. Included both in the price and did not charge extra

The company quoted me over the phone. They were right in the ballpark of what the other plumbers offered, and based on the review here I went with Jake's. There was a pretty strange sort of insistence during the initial call that we use a frost-free nozzle on one of our outdoor faucets that didn't already have one. I didn't want to incur more cost, especially when I can just cap the thing during our mild winters. But we just talked through it. No big deal. I don't think it was an attempt to upsell. They were late, but it wasn't a huge deal for us because my wife stays at home. Services were performed quickly and properly. My wife reports that she was impressed. That means a lot.

I have a long history of being dissatisfied with plumbers, primarily because I almost always come away from my experiences with them feeling like I have been ripped off -- but my experience with Jake the Plumber was somewhat different. For starters, when I called them and told them what I needed and when, they gave me a quote instantly -- and they stuck to it. They arrived promptly at their scheduled time and worked efficiently, and I was pleasantly surprised when, at the end of the first visit, I got out my checkbook and was told that I could wait to pay till after their return visit. Yes, it cost too much, which is why I gave them a lower grade on price than on service. But every plumber charges too much in my opinion, and they certainly didn't charge more than their competition would have. I would still get quotes from competitors for future jobs, but I'd say there's a pretty good chance I'd use Jake the Plumber again.
Description of Work: Jake the Plumber made two visits, one to disconnect the gas lines to my appliances and one a week later to reconnect the lines (before and after having new floors installed in my house).

The guys from Jake the Plumber have always arrived bright and early the morning after our issues and fixed things up promptly. They have always used parts far superior to those that have failed and fixed my problems in a way that they are not likely to occur again (I now have an all metal valve with steel braded lines behind my fridge and I have an extra shutoff valve that can be drained on the heated side of my garage so that I will not have water sitting in my garage pipes during the winter). When my insurance adjuster got the bill for the burst pipe she specifically commented that I had gotten a very fair price and that clearly my plumber does not price gouge under emergency situations like some others.
Description of Work: Jake the Plumber is my regular plumbing company. They were recommended to us by the previous owner of the house. We have an older house and have had a couple of plumbing emergencies (a leaking valve behind our fridge and a burst water pipe in our garage during a big freeze).

Jake the Plumber, Terry, was a hard worker performing great work in a variety of different tasks. Was prompt and professional. Terry has become my go-to plumber, called him back to repair another leaking hose bib soon after this job. After talking to Terry I realized I had used Terry 5 to 7 years ago to install a pressure regulator for the entire home and another water line out to a garden. I would definitely use Terry (Jake the Plumber) again.
Description of Work: Main water line beneath the driveway was leaking. Jake the Plumber, AKA Terry, dug a trench from the water meter to the house (he would have removed the concrete but the concrete guys got there first), jackhammered through the garage slab, installed a new water line, ugraded the shutoff valves and replaced a leaking hose bib, repaired the slab in the garage and filled in the trench.

.Punctual, personable, professional, and the finished product was very clean and tight. He called to confirm the day before and when he was done he left it cleaner than before he arrived.
Description of Work: There was a leak in our basement. We found with removal of drywall that to many drains were tied together. In addition the pipe used was to small in diameter with all the joints improperly installed. Frankly I was impressed with Terry's ability to assess the issue and solve the problem all in mid stride.

Terry was very professional and knowledgeable. One thing that I found exceptional about his work was his foresight--he was able to think ahead several steps, ask about our plans, and then tailor his work to save us time and money down the road. For example, we needed a new gas line to reach the water heater. When Terry found out that we had plans to relocate our furnace (in a few years) so that it was next to the water heater, he offered to install a larger-gauge gas line (at no additional cost!) so that the line would be sufficient to supply the water heater and furnace. During the project, we changed our minds about which wall the water heater should be mounted on, but Terry was very understanding; although we offered to pay him for the additional labor hours to make the change, he only added 1 hour's time to our bill--definitely much less than he spent! We will be sure to call him when we need a plumber again.
Description of Work: Terry installed a new gas tankless water heater to replace a storage-tank electric water heater.

I had sewage coming out of my shower drain on a Sunday morning. I called Jake and he was at my house in about 20 minutes. He took a look at the house and explained explained that if the clog was more than 75 feet from the clean out his equipment couldn't reach it. I told him to go ahead, and he was able to clear the clog. He gave us some information on preventing future clogs, and drain maintenance. I paid $300 for emergency service on a Sunday. From the time I noticed the clog, to the time it was completely resolved was less than 90 minutes, very fast.

Everything went very smoothy. The final PVC stack is a work of art - all nicely graded and kept in line in case we frame in a new basement wall. He worked around my work on a french drain and sump pump without problem and advised on code issues. He also managed to cut the 4in cast iron vent in the bathroom wall without damaging the plaster on the other side - no mean feat with almost no clearance and 90 yo plaster!
Description of Work: Replaced the main DWV stack from just outside house back to bathroom sink, WC, bath, laundry riser, laundry sink, kitchen sink. Required cutting and removing cast iron & steel and replacing with PVC. Installed backflow valve where needed.

It was a very good experience. They were clean and prompt. They did exactly what they said they were going to do and kept me informed every step of the way on what they were doing. They also pointed out some other things that needed done, but didn't pressure me into getting them done right away. I have no complaints.

When our original supply line finally failed (on a Friday, as I remember) Terry remembered, again mentioned the estimate of $3,000 and said he would try to get to us on Saturday if he got through with a job on the east side early. He did show up on Saturday and got the job done in less time than he had suggested would be needed. The work was done as he had described and has been quite satisfactory. We were especially appreciative when we received a bill for only $1,700.
Description of Work: The water line from the street into our house through a stone retaining wall and basement wall recently failed (original,1927) necessitating a rerouting of that line through the garage. Terry (Jake the Plumber) had responded a year earlier when we had experienced a leak in our water service that turned out to be on the city's side. Terry had noted that the pipe into the house was itself close to failing and had described what he could do to solve that problem at a cost of about $3,000. We thanked him but chose to postpone that repair.

It was almost a good job. The estimate process was clear. My house is a nasty plumbing job. The attic is full of loose insulation and very low, and the crawl space is more a squirm space. Essentially, jobs 1-4 were done perfectly, as far as I can tell. After the job was finished, however, I checked under the house and found at, perhaps the point that would have required the hardest work, they had spliced the 2" drain to the existing 1 1/2" drain. I called and had a discussion with the owner, and he volunteered to have his guys do that part of the job over. (I got the sense that his guys doing that bit took it on themselves to save a few hours extra work). Undone, the drain would not have been up to code when it was time to sell the house. I don't like to rate professionalism so low, because the owner made good without any argument, and everything else was fine, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.
Description of Work: Replaced galvanized pipes with pex in crawl space, added shut-off valve and retied onto existing copper pipes. Replaced galvanized pipes with pex in attic, retied onto copper pipes to both bathrooms. Ran new pex waterlines to kitchen sink and laundry. Replace outside spigot and repack a 2nd spigot. Upside drain to 2" and run that new drain to washing machine and laundry tub.

He was professional, courteous, and personable. Covered the tub, pedestal sink, and toilet with a tarp, taped plastic to the walls to protect the tile and grout, removed the old pipes, which after 50 years were full of build-up and water and replaced them with new plastic lines. He was very thorough in cleaning up debris and spills etc from the job.

A good experience. Jake the Plumber is actually Terry Kellum. Terry answered his business number on Labor Day! We made an appointment for the following Wednesday between 11 and 1, with a call to be made a half-hour before. He called at 12:50 to say he would arrive by 1:30, and did. The work took about 2.5 hours - moving a garbage disposal requires a fair amount of pipe re-work. Terry was professional and I'm pleased with the work. $237 of the bill was for labor, which I found reasonable for 2.5 hours of competent plumbing.

Refrigerator valve and a line leaked, sending water running down my wall into my basement. I called a couple of plumbers and they were all saying they could come by in 3+ days. Then I called ''Jake the Plumber''. They were also booked pretty solid, but understood that this was an 'emergency' case. The plumber told me how to safely shut off the water and POWER so I wouldn't burn out my water heater, and then came out by 7:15 the next morning. He worked very fast and replaced the original flimsy valve and plastic line with components of much higher quality so that this will not happen again. I was very pleased with the work with only one exception; the new parts were larger and not as flexible as the old ones. After he left I noticed that they kept my refrigerator from sitting as tightly against the wall as it did before. The value probably could have been positioned better to minimize this. If it weren't for that, I would have given them an A for quality of work as well.
