Overall - it was a good experience and I would use them again. I think IHS usually does bigger remodeling projects and I would definitely have them look at a bigger job.
Description of Work: I needed to tear out a bunch of drywall that was damaged by water and replace a full room and recarpet the whole downstairs. IHS did a great job and worked with the tenants so I didn't have to keep going back to the rental.

Overall, things did not go well. They did a nice job on a couple of things, but had trouble on another item. Re-worked this item 3 times and it is still not right. They left some things in an unfinished state and I could not believe they considered themselves done. Workmanship was not what I had expected. I decided to let them go and get the job finished another way..

I found IHS Contractors through an Angie's Deal and it was the best $299 I've spent in a long time! The carpenter, Juan, arrived promptly at 9:00 and was very courteous and professional. He understood exactly what needed to be done and had all the necessary tools and quickly set up a work station in our driveway. He removed each of the doors, took them outside, made the adjustments and quickly had them re-installed. Because of the adjustment, the lock on the front door was no longer in proper alignment, so he took it out and re-installed it about 1/4 of an inch higher, so now the door opens and closes smoothly. I originally hired him just to fix the two exterior and one interior door, but he worked so quickly and efficiently that he had time left over and asked me if there was more that he could do. I showed him the damaged shed door and, using scrap lumber from our basement, he essentially built a new door that now works perfectly. He also took the time to cut and install two pieces of missing trim on our stairs. He also cleaned up all of the wood scraps and sawdust in the driveway. In all, he performed more than the 8 hours of work offered through the deal. I was very impressed with the quality and professionalism of his work and would gladly hire him again!
Description of Work: We had two exterior wood doors that were warped and difficult to open and close, and interior bathroom door that was so far out of plumb that it didn't close at all, and a wooden shed door that was damaged and needed to be rebuilt.

Ed was fabulous. He and a second handyman arrived on time, with the tools necessary to install a large, ornate crystal and stainless steel chandelier on a 20 ft ceiling. The chandelier had to be put together, including crystals, a ceiling whole cut, wiring connected and then the high hat can was closed off, plugged with drywall and spackled over. The job took 4 hours. With fifteen extra minutes they even moved a large piece of furniture for me. I highly recommend ITC and Ed for their professional workmanship

After some scheduling conflicts (both theirs and mine) they came out and got it done and cleaned up after themselves. Very friendly employees who listened to exactly what I asked them to do. I explained some possible future projects and that I would like to tackle the parts that I'm confident enough to complete to save some money. They seemed very willing to work with me. Will use them for future projects.

Original appointment GC was late, I called and he sent his apprentice. GC arrived later; this worked out OK. GC recommended that I either use a smaller sink, or get new lower cabinets to match the larger sink. I had already purchased all of the materials for the job, and wanted to get the job done in 1 day as I had ordered a "contractor for a day" "Big Deal" from Angie's List. I did not have money for lower cabinets. So I decided to go ahead, against his recommendation, with the larger sink and keep the existing lower cabinets. He said it would look odd, but I went for it anyways. I really needed my kitchen back in place in 1 day. So I think I put some pressure on them to do this in 1 day, which in hindsight was not the best move on my part. The work took longer than anticpated as they had to do custom work on the lower cabinets to fit the new sink. Also the existing plumbing was really old and required them to make a store run to get different plumbing parts than what I had bought. They had to install a facia board diagonally in front of the corner sink to cover up the front of the sink, which with my design was sticking out in front of the corner of the lower cabinets. Very unusual design, yes; again this was my fault not theirs. In the end, I was happy they were able to get the job done. The contractor said I got more than my money's worth that day, and I think he was right. There were some problems, however. After they left I noticed that the diagonal facia was not true with the line of the sink. It would not be hard to fix that. Also there were a few more pieces installed to keep the sink looking OK even though it sticks out beyond the cabinets. One of these also looks like it's lined up a bit off from the angle of the front of the sink. O well. I don't blame them much for this given that I pretty much laid down a 1 day deadline to get this work done. Then the drain pipes leading out from the sink are leaking a bit. I can fix that, and I don't blame them as they had no time to go back to the store (again) and replumb this part (again). It's not a big deal, just a few drips here and there. Overall I think they did good work and they ended up giving me more than what I had purchased as part of the Big Deal. I should have followed his instructions instead of going with my own too-tight deadlines and rather odd design. :)
Description of Work: demo'ed existing kitchen countertop & sink. installed new kitchen countertop & sink. Retained existing cabinets which had to be custom worked to fit the new sink.

Two IHS handyman removed the old dryer vent and associated ducting which was in conflict with the hot and cold water supply to our laundry room. Installed a new dryer vent and ducting in a new location that did not conflict with the laundry room water supply lines, replaced the 10 inch cedar siding. The work was difficult due to the limited crawl space access. The workmanship was excellent and will use IHS for future home projects.

It was easy to schedule and plan the project with Ed via phone and email. Ed and Will arrived on time and immediately went to work. I discussed additional lumber and supplies needed with Ed and purchased them while demo was completed. After I went to work, Ed and Will efficiently re-sided and trimmed the garage. When it appeared the job would go over the projected time, I was given a call and an estimate for the overage. When I arrived home, the job was completed, looked great, and was ready to paint. Overall, the job was done very well and everything was handled very professionally.

I bought 8 hours of contractor service on an Angie's Big Deal. Ed and his assistant both came to my house for 4 hours to finish some exterior house painting. I had to return to my job so I was unable to supervise their work. A couple of weeks later, I was touching up the paint and filling in the spaces that they had missed and at that time I did a thorough inspection of what they had done. I know I should have inspected it sooner, but it never occurred to me that it wouldn't be done perfectly. However, it wasn't. Even though I told them several times that I had more than enough paint, they applied it very sparingly. They had rolled it onto the siding of the house and then went back with a brush to fill in the little spaces in between the pieces of siding. I told them that I wanted them to get the areas that were higher in elevation as I am afraid of heights and I would rather touch up the lower parts of the house. However, there are some areas that they left unpainted that are too high. Unfortunately, my budget is finished and now those parts of the house will not be painted at all. On the areas where they filled in with a brush, it was done so lightly that I went back and painted over it so that there would be a good coat of paint on it. I had more than enough paint and I don't know why they did not use it. They also broke the cover of an electrical outlet on my back deck and did not mention that to me. I don't know if they thought that I wouldn't notice that it was a sloppy job, but I did and I'm disappointed. I can understand that they were not able to finish in the time allowed. That happens. But they could have done a good job on what they did paint and they also could have painted the higher areas and left the lower ones for me to finish, as I had requested. Now I am stuck repainting much of what they did, in addition to filling in the areas that they did not complete. It's not what I had in mind when I hired them.

I had a great experience with Nathan and his crew at IHS Contractors. They came and installed a sliding patio door in my kitchen, and despite the door being a bit too short (my error, not theirs), they made it work. The crew worked cleanly and efficiently, and were polite and professional throughout the entire process. I'm very pleased with the install and would not hesitate to use them again.

Ed Novion came out to our home at the time he said he would. He did an excellent job cutting out the space for the slider and installing the door. We are both very pleased at his work and professionalism and would use him again.

I saw the $299 Handyman for a Day deal from Angie's list and wasn't sure what to expect. I had a small list of "must haves" that I wasn't able to do on my own and a large list of "nice to haves" where I could do the work myself but preferred not to. I was also on a tight timeline. I emailed Ed prior to buying the deal to confirm they could complete the work in two weeks or less and that the nature of work I needed was something they could do, and was delighted to hear the answer was yes to both questions. They arrived on time as scheduled and immediately got to work on my biggest line item - removing an abandoned metal flue and patching both the roof and the ceiling once removed. For $299, I would have been more than happy if this was all they were able to get done, but they also managed to knock off many of the other items on my list: patching other rough spots in my ceiling, replacing the existing hinges with new ones on all my doors, patching the fence in the backyard, installing a new light fixture in the bathroom, and repairing a leaking pipe in my crawl space. They were thorough and very professional in all their fixes, letting me know when they saw future problems (ex: that the boards in my fence are fairly rotted and will continue to come loose). I couldn't believe how much they were able to get done for so little money. Ed also noticed that one of my work items - replacing a fire door - was no longer on the list. I explained that I underestimated how much time it would take to get a replacement door, and I needed to get measurements and would have to wait 2-4 weeks for the door to be made. Ed offered to remove my existing door, take it to have an exact copy made and a reputable shop he worked with in the past, and return to install the new door within a week's time and all for a price that was very comparable to what I would have paid to do it on my own. The shorter time frame also meant that the door was installed and painted before I moved in instead of after. I couldn't be happier with the service I received from IHS. The value for the money coupled with their professionalism and the quality of their service was nothing short of amazing. I have already referred them to friends and look forward to working with them again in the future.
Description of Work: Removed a metal flue that was no longer in use and patched both the roof and the ceiling. Patched other rough spots in the existing ceiling. Replaced old brass hinges with new brushed chrome hinges on all 5 doors. Patched fence surrounding backyard. Installed light fixture in bathroom. Repaired leaking water pipe in crawl space. Removed fire door connecting house to garage, had a new door made, installed new door.

It was a rewarding experierence and when you meet someone who does such a fine job, you want to let others know that IHS is trustworthy, capable and the end result brings a smile daily.
Description of Work: Quality craftmanship describes IHS Contractors. Because of Ed Novion's years of experience, I asked for his thoughts about the transitions I was considering. I was glad I did and he approached the challenges with a contractor's eye and skill.. He oversaw the Corian countertops in my kitchen. He suggested a Corian sink ( viva la difference) and said that my current faucet and garbage disposal were fine. Also, he took a huge recessed space of about 5 feet in the kitchen's ceiling and made it a beautifully framed area for the new lighting he installed. As there was no lighting in the dining room, he was able to give me a new light over the table. That was a challenge but it was accomplished by the smallest worker going through the kitchen celing to the dining room and making it happen. The people who work for him take pride in their work as well. I am happy with the results.
