The two man crew got here right on time and began to check out the pipes in the attic. They decided to clean out the vent exiting from the house and got a lot of debris out. This was not what I asked them to do. They didn't pull the dryer from the wall to see the problem their also. They weren't told about the sanding and didn't have the appropriate equipment. They said they weren't told about that. I showed them the email I had sent to their boss so they knew I had that expectation. So they asked what they could do and I replied that my jewelry armoire needed hanging. After they hung the armoire and left the first time I opened it It fell off the wall. There was no clean up of the debris on the floor nor was the material from the attic which had fallen onto the garage floor totally cleaned up. As a follow up since the dryer wasn't taken care of water had been leaking out from the bottom of the dryer and has damaged the hardwood floor in front of the dryer and the floor in the entry way. This will be a considerable expense as the floor is 3/4 Swedish white oak. I just hope there is a way for those portions of the floor to be replaced and stained without having to redo the entire floor as it covers about at least 1,500 sq. ft This would also entail moving out all of my furniture and me having to be in a motel. All because it wasn't vented as I requested. I spoke to the owner right after the initial work wasn't satisfactorily completed. He said they could come back at $70 an hour.
Description of Work: I needed new "pipes" venting my dryer and sanding of the door frames where there were big nicks and gouged from my power chair. The owner and I had been in extensive email contact regarding the new venting because I initially thought I would buy the necessary items. After investigating I decided to have the crew buy what was needed as Lowe's was about 5 minutes away.

The Dryer was never repaired correctly. Did not bring the materials for the sanding on the trim around the doors and would come back to service. Never came back for the service on the trim around the doors.

Very courteous to work with. My schedule was very flexible and after finding time on the calendar that worked for both parties we were able to get a date in the books. Company was understanding the project required 2 days; 1 short day of prep and first coat, and a follow up for second coat, sand, and texture.

Unfortunately, I did not get to use my Big Deal before it expired.
Description of Work: I purchase the Big Deal from IHS Contractors which was "$448 for General Contractor for a Day." I contacted them right after purchasing it and was told they were booked out 3 weeks with other large projects. Ed, the owner, said he would contact me as soon as he wrapped up those projects and beforehand if time permitted. He did reach out to me several times to clarify details for my project. However, when I called back 4 weeks later my message was not returned. I tried reaching out to him again a month later with an Angie's List message and this time got a response that he was booked out 3 - 4 weeks still.

Excellent! Highly recommend. Initially I used Ed to convert a window into a French door. The work was scheduled quickly and performed very well. The work needed me to leave them alone in the house and to supervise an elderly cat (he needed to be locked in and released as Ed and Will left) They did such a good job that when I remodeled my basement I didn't even get competitive quotes. Again a great job - with attention to detail, not being satisfied until things were right. I subsequently had to have some repairs done to the house, and have them fix issues caused by another contractor, which they did quickly and professionally.

It was a special deal -- 8 hours of handyman. I purchased the deal and called and asked if this kind of job would work within the 8 hour timeframe and they agreed. I was also told what to purchase so they would be able to do the job. Two guys came to work for 4 hours and installed an exterior door where there wasn't one before. It probably took a bit longer than 4 hours, but they saw it through. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to write a review -- the door is still working perfectly two years later.

Was very disappointed in drywall repair & not putting in sub flooring under cabinets as I instructed. They did not pick up the fireproof 3/4" drywall & R 15 batt insulation I purchased & had on will call @HD. I let the owner know it was on will call. Put in their own cheap 1/2" drywall & insulation and shimmed out to meet upper half of 1" thick remaining drywall. Did a really bad job. Left gaps where drywall was suppose to meet. Also large gaps at end of drywall @ corner. Contractor's handyman said no need to worry as cabinets would hide gaps. I was concerned about cold air getting in. I also purchased sub floor laminate which he said I did not need as cabinets would hide the gaps in plywood flooring previous owner put in. Again, I was concerned about gaps in floor letting cold air in & nasty look. Cabinet install was slow, especially the putting on knobs & pulls which took him another full day to do. He also had a hard time with the plumbing of cabinets. He also reattached carpet the second day, which should not have taken long. I had a total of 11 base cabinets so this was not a huge install. I had all older cabinets torn out before hand & water damaged drywall removed before hand. He did get the cabinet finally plum & did a good job at re-connecting plumbing in bathroom . The knobs & pulls also look good, too. It took a total of two days for handyman to do job. I did let owner know what I needed done. He seemed to think the job could be done in a day. The owner never came out to the job site & my only contact with him has been on the phone. I thought that quite odd not to look at the job site before beginning so I could get expected time & cost down. I would say lack of communication was a big problem.

I recently purchased a "General Contractor for a Day!" deal and only after did I realize the projects I have are not really in their scope of work. I spoke to someone from the company and they confirmed this verbally more or less. I have granite I need cut and some electrical work. When I mentioned this to him the response I got was less then reassuring. I do not have confidence in have them do this work now and would like to get a refund. The last thing I would want is to feel obligated to move forward with them and risk having the work done in a unsatisfactory manner. This is not to say they are not good at what they do, but again I was not comfortable with allowing them to do the projects I intended. Unfortunately, I do not have any other projects for them so it seems pointless to have them come out.

It wasn’t a good experience at all. They didn’t do some of the things that they said they did. They couldn’t do some of the things because they didn’t know how to and they went about trying to fix something that wasn’t broken. In doing that, they messed everything up and all my electricity in the kitchen. The owner came out the next day and fixed the problems they created and he did some of the things that his crew didn’t do. I was selling my house and so the buyer’s inspector came out and inspected. One of the things that were on the list that they didn’t fix was, there was supposedly a leak and a pipe under the utility room had to be fixed. However, the guys that the contractor sent out checked and said there wasn’t any leak that it was probably some corrosion from what had probably been an old leak but there wasn’t any leak. So I passed them along to the inspector, he went under there again and said there was a leak. So, it wasn’t a good experience. It took three times and the third time they charged me for things that should have been done the first time that the guys wasting time. The guys were wasting time when I was paying them by the hour, so it was just not a good experience. The contractor, Ed Novion was a nice guy but he sent out a complete idiot the first time who was lazy and clueless. Ed did fix some things so when he and his son came back the third time and did what should have been done the first time like the pipe that they said wasn’t leaking, which had to be fixed, I had to pay extra. I don’t mind paying the extra for the pipe but the other things should have been done the first time because they had the time to do it but they didn’t do it. I was paying by the hour and one of his men was on the phone all the time, so it was pointless. So I went ahead and paid him the extra $200 in addition to almost $1100 that I already paid but it took him two weeks, three visits and a lot of delays. He actually delayed our closing the real estate transaction because until that work was done and passed by the inspector we couldn’t close. I would do it again. I am an older lady and I know that they are taking advantage of that, which is one of the reasons why I don’t want to deal with them anymore. The first was visit was a 1049 and then he billed me for the third visit, he didn’t bill me for the second visit where he did some things that they messed up and he should have billed me anyways because they messed them up. One of the things that they were supposed to do was to clean out the crawl spaces under the house, so I showed the older guy where the entrance to the crawl spaces were and the he told the younger guy to go under and fix and clean them out. The older guy was just following me around the house, blabbering at me and I am paying by the hour, so finally, I just left and said repeatedly not to do anything that was not on the list. This was an old house so I told them they would see things that could be done but what we were doing here is we are just doing the items from the inspectors list so. However, when I came back he was replacing an outlet in the kitchen that was not on the list and in doing so he made my dishwasher inoperable. I asked him why he was doing something that wasn’t on the list, he said, it had to be replaced but it was functioning just fine. So I called his boss, the boss came out the next day, the thing hadn’t been wired correctly, the thing that he shouldn’t have replaced to begin with hadn’t been wired correctly. So the boss rewired it but when the inspector came back out, he found out that outlet was no longer grounded and that was their third visit. The problem was that the older guy replaced the GFCI plug with another GFCI plug, there wasn’t anything wrong with the first one but what he replaced it with was a higher voltage plug and was over loading the circuit. Then I had to have a registered electrician and not a handyman do this, so I had to hire an electrician to come out and fix what that guy had messed up, that he never should have touched in the first place. That cost me another $182 for the electrician. So I ended up paying almost $300 for the third visit. All the older guy did in five and a half hours was replace five GFCI plugs and replaced one that shouldn’t have been. Hat all he did in five and a half hours in terms of productive work. Ed was a nice guy but it wasn’t a good experience and it certainly wasn’t cost effective.

Will arrived on time and it was obvious he had a lot of experience. However, I wanted to install a new product and I am a small person. We were able to remove the carpet, remove the baseboard, remove the closet doors, paint the floor with adhesive, install the tile, grout between the tiles, re-install the closet doors, re-install the baseboards. All of this took only about 3.5 hours. I re-grouted the tiles then applied a sealer. While waiting for the adhesive to dry, he helped me do some deck staining for about 30 minutes. I am very happy with the final flooring and with the help they sent me.
