Not great as you can see
Description of Work: Update on work performed when used through general contractor J and M Remodel. They were hired to replace nob&tube. Just found out all nob&tube still in place and live. They left all wrappers and electric pieces/mess in attic (no clean up), wall switches and lights don't work, microwave and refrigerator turn off periodically, no lighting installed or covers? Some rooms not rewired as Josh claimed his proposal didn't cover ALL nob&tube in house. Brought in untrained help to assist and the worker acted like he was in a bar at closing. Swearing and talking inappropriately. Terminated their services, now Josh is demanding full payment for incomplete, non working, messy job that he accepts no responsibility for.

Description of Work: These guys did great work. We are finishing our basement and these guys did some re-wiring. They brought in some new circuits, installed canned lighting, installed electric heaters, and ran some new outlets. They worked hard and were fast. They were also thoughtful, had some good ideas about how to do the job better, and were communicative throughout. They were also significantly less expensive than other companies who bid the job. I would highly recommend these guys.

Description of Work: Josh was able to come out the day after I called, and despite the fact that I was running late and kept pushing things back he was extremely accomodating. When he arrived he capably diagnosed and fixed the problem with our dryer, and also helped with an outlet issue.

Joshua was personable and professional and was on time for the estimate.
Description of Work: I was getting estimates for upgrading to a larger capacity circuit box and adding some circuits for a bath remodel. Their estimate was a several hundred more than the one I used which is mainly why I didn't choose them. They apparently also charged a mark-up on the permit which I did not like. They gave an estimate of $100 for a permit for adding 2 circuits yet the city only charges $10 per circuit.

My husband had already done a lot of the electric work himself. He was stuck somewhere so we called them. They were fine but the guy who came seemed to be young and inexperienced. He couldn?t finish the work himself. He spent couple of hours and he did some other things too. He had to come back with another guy. For which they charged me double for two guys. Then they also charged us for more hours. I felt that we paid a lot for the amount of work that was done because we had to bring back someone with more expertise. That?s what he did. They did the work and it was fine. It was just that we had overpaid them. I had to pay for two guys and two days. Other than that they were fine. I would probably look for someone else with more experience next time.
Description of Work: I used Emerald City Electric probably to do the electrical work probably a month ago or more than a month.

We had just moved into a 40+ year old home that needed a lot of upgrades, including electrical prep for tankless H2O and a gas fireplace as well as the electrical components of a total kitchen gut and redo. As seniors on a super-tight budget, and with the list of unforeseen but necessary upgrades growing daily at an alarming rate, I solicited bids from several electricians on Angie's List and Craigslist. When Josh of Emerald City Electric submitted his very competitive bid (an introductory special discount on Craigslist), he was very upfront with me about the fact that he and his co-worker Kyle were newly in business for themselves as electrical contractors, having previously practiced their trade for others. I told him that as a retired teacher, I understood the necessity of the learning process and was willing to take a risk on relative rookies as long as they stood by their work and made things right if anything went initially amiss. I was immediately impressed with Josh's politeness, honesty and good communication skills and ultimately chose him from among 4 or 5 other bids. (Some of the other bids were roughly the same amount of $$, but my husband and I didn't like the snarky attitude of the bidders or, in some cases, were troubled by the fact that their English skills were so poor we were worried we would not be able to communicate with each other clearly enough.) Reno's like ours are a lot more complicated than new builds, and we all ran into surprises along the way. A few of these required electrical re-planning or re-do's, necessitating more unexpected work by Josh and Kyle. Where appropriate, they ate the cost of the extra time, and in other cases we paid more than the initial bid had called for but didn't feel that was unfair -- when you redo existing homes, you have to be prepared for surprises and cost overruns. Some of the re-doing was my own fault, too, in that the puck lighting system I had ordered online for the cabinets turned out not to be suitable and Josh and Kyle very helpfully went out and obtained the right kind. They were good-natured and professional throughout the whole process, and we felt they were always motivated to leave us satisfied customers.. Overall, I would give their work on this particular job an A-. The minus is only because their misreading of the blueprints for our new kitchen cabinets led them to cut open permanently visible finished areas of the backsplash wall in order to run wiring that could have been run just a few inches higher up behind where the cabinets would conceal the cuts. But they helped make up for this by getting a nice family member who is an expert drywaller to come in and make repairs to the wall and to the ceiling where similar unanticipated cuts had been made. We paid extra for this, but less than we would have had to if we'd hired a drywaller some other way. In other words, their mistake didn't just leave us hanging. Similarly, when their misunderstanding of the location of a circuit we had requested resulted in a distressingly visible drill-hole in our newly refinished hardwood floors, Josh immediately rectified the error by calling in a very accomplished hardwood floor guy who beautifully repaired the hole at Josh's expense. The picture I'm trying to paint here is of young electricians doing a very conscientious job, making a few human mistakes along the way, but very professsionally making those things right as they had promised. BTW, these glitches were not enough to keep us from hiring Josh and Kyle to do additional work: an upgrade of our entire electrical panel, for which they again gave us a reasonable price. We have a few more small electrical jobs we'll need help with when our budget recovers from all the big expenditures, and we won't hesitate to contact Emerald City for a bid.
Description of Work: Rerouted and extended several existing circuits, installed new ones including in- and under-cabinet lighting for a total kitchen remodel. As a separate ticket item added after this work was in progress, upgraded entire electrical service to 200 amp.

Great service and did a nice and neat job. Came at a time that was convenient for me and and response time that was very quick. I had bought a fan that was too big for the hole that was left by the old one. The guy from Emerald City Electric quickly and neatly cut the drywall so that the new fan would fit. No issues with their work. It was done very well and quickly!
Description of Work: Replaced burned out bathroom fan. Had to cut drywall to get new fan in and hook back up to the electricity.

The two young men who worked at my house came on time. They were polite, friendly, and worked really fast. They finished the job in one day and left the house clean and ready to go. The price was really reasonable and I would recommend them to my friends and family.

My overall experience with Josh and Emerald City Electric was everything you can want in dealing with a contractor. Josh was prompt to arrive for the estimate and explained in detail what the process would be to be able to complete my requests. His price was very fair and when it came to doing the work they were on time and got right to business. They were very diligent in there work but would always take the time to stop and explain what they were doing because I tend to be a bit nosy and like to know what is happening. When it was all done the quality was everything I could have wanted and they made sure to clean up and make it as if they weren't there. I have done many little remodel projects at my house and Emerald City was by far one of the easiest companies to work for. I would defiantly recommend and hire them again.
Description of Work: I had my electrical panel replaced and also had some lighting installed in my livingroom as well as a new fan in my bathroom.
