I started in Feb. 2010, I had a company bid on insulation, very high and he was on the phone half the time he was talking to me. I then had an energy audit (Seattle City paid $300, I paid $95), he took about 3 hours with a heat sensor and blow kit, months later I received a print out of our house insulation problems. Then I had several bids, but found the companies really had their own way and didn't use this energy audit information. I hired Einar Johanson because of their reputation and bid. The two man crew came out on time, worked through lunch, found uninsulated walls the energy auditor didn't check, cleaned up, worked very hard for two days and did a beautiful job. Our house is now more comfortable and I'm wondering why I went through months of time getting an energy audit and 3 other bids. I should have just hired Einar Johanson and I got to use Angie's coupon.

My story is simple. I selected EJ after reading several reviews on Angie?s List and inerviewing three candidates, each of whom seemed excellent. I chose EJ based on a special they were offering at the time. Working on this house presented a challenge. It was built in stages, beginning in the 1920s, and much of the workmanship was poor. Russ and Ian, the EJ installation team, had anticipated some difficulties, but encountered even more than they had expected. They took no shortcuts, however, and never relaxed their own high standards, despite the extra time required. They figured out ways to correct existing problems, including sealing previously unsealed areas and replacing flimsy trim on several of the windows at no extra cost. Throughout the three days they were here, they were unfailingly professional, cheerful, and generous with their advice when I asked questions about other aspects of the house. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with the work they did.

These guys are awesome! They are professional. Chris and Emmanuel showed up on time and ready to go. The crawlspace under the house is not a fun place to go; it was terribly cold as well. In addition, this old house has 18" off center beams instead of 16", so it took them longer to fill in the extra strips. They did not finish the same day but they called to reschedule and were always prompt and on time. Given the cold, wet environment, and the holidays, they finished up doing a terrific job. We are most pleased. We asked also to have a heat duct moved which they were able to do for us. This was a very positive experience, this is a great company to work with and we recommend them highly.

We were not sure if our very cold bedrooms were due to insulation problem or not, and if so, we wanted to have someone work on it. We called Einar Johanson and immediately made an appointment for an estimate visit. Mark Loftin arrived on time. Mark was very efficient and polite as he checked our insulation conditions, and suggested that the problem is our heating system - which turned out to be true after we fixed heating system. Although he did not get any business, he was very professional and attentive. If we have any issues in their business area in the future, we will call them.

Called Einar Johanson Oct. 8 to make an appt. Doug came by Oct. 14 to give me an estimate. Like the promotional ads he was very professional as well as very personable. Gave me an estimate and said I would need to decide by the 18th to get installed by the end of the year to qualify for the tax break. Based upon their reviews and his approach I committed. He said I would be contacted periodically up to install date of the first week of Dec. Brian came out a few days later to take exact measurements of the job. Also very professional and polite. Doug called a few days later to let me know that they would have to order a different make window for a few of the bedroom windows due to installation anomalies. He asked me if that was OK and I said yes. These windows were more expensive but the cost was not passed on to me. Denise called about a week before to let me know my scheduled date. She also called the day before as a reminder. Brad (installer) and Evan (helper) arrived Dec. 6 about 8:30. They request you give them 3 ft. of room around window and door areas which I did to the best of my ability. After Brad surveyed the work areas Evan laid out drop cloths for every path they used to install the windows. He also taped plastic sheeting ceiling to floor in the work areas to keep any dust, sawdust etc contained. They were careful outside as well. They covered some shrubs from any debris that may have fallen on them. They had to move a number of pieces of lawn furniture up against the house to facilitate the install. The lawn furniture was arranged a certain way, sitting on small blocks in some cases up against the house. I couldn't have put it back the same way they did when they were done and I live here. Evan cleaned up the areas where the windows were installed and Brad started on the sliding door. He had to do some fine tuning to get the sliding door lock to work but I could tell he wasn't going to leave until it worked correctly. They finished about 5:00 that day. They left the house as clean or cleaner in some cases after they were finished. They didn't have the screen door for the slider and Brad said it would arrive shortly. A few days later I came home and it was installed.

Had no problems from start to finish. Probably took them 4 - 5 hours to do the house house - including those sections in the garage which share a wall with the house (the rest of the garage is unfinished). Insulation in the crawl space and attic is still insufficient, but wanted to get the exterior walls done before the house was painted, as the process involves drilling holes in siding so that the insulation can be blown in. They plugged the holes all around - and with a new paint job those plugs are not noticeable at all. Will definitely get them back out next year to do the attic, crawl space, seal the vents etc.

They gave us an estimate and thanked us. We compared the quote with others. We called them back and set a date. They remeasured, set dates for the work and asked that we use a credit card to pay because of the added protection. They did what they promised, cleaned up completely and called back to make sure it was right. We felt there was a little problem in the garage and they redid it with no added cost. They have called a couple of times since just to check on our satisfaction. They are very skilled in this work. We are proud of the changes in our house.

Our experience with Einar Johanson Insulation & Glass was excellent. ESTIMATION - The estimator provided a fair quote the first time around and did not use high pressure sales tactics. He was very confident that their price would be the best, and he was right. When they called to schedule the installation, we had the option to have them installed much sooner than expected. INSTALLATION - The installers were very professional. They were rough but hard-working individuals who arrived on time and were very respectful of our property. A number of unexpected challenges were encountered during the installation process. These surprises made the work take two days longer than expected, but I was not charged additional fees because of this. In the one instance where I had a concern about how a sliding glass door was installed, they did not hesitate to redo the work to my satisfication. Again without additonal charge to me. PRODUCT - The windows and doors we chose were all VPI brand. The windows were a great value for the price and we are entirely happy with them. The sliding doors were also a good value, but we have been a little dissatisfied with the handle and latch mechanisms. Overall we are happy with the products.

Initially, I was thinking about removing and installing the door myself. I quickly came to my senses and had them do the work. I'm really glad I had them handle the job from start to finish. I'm a fairly handy guy...but if I tried to do the install myself (after watching their workmanship) I know it would have really regretted doing this on my own. There installers were awesome, friendly, on time and got the job done quickly. I'm one happy customer and plan on doing more business with them in the future. Thanks Guys!!!

Very happy with the job two different crews from Einar Johanson did. First crew was out for a few hours one morning to correct the venting of a bathroom fan (had been just blowing air into the attic) and to add ~17" of cellulose to our attic. That crew also added batts of insulation to a front attic area. Nice and quick. The second crew got the harder job of drilling a couple hundred holes into the cedar shingle exterior of the house and then blowing in cellulose insulation. They spent 2 days working (not chatting and lunching and lounging) on ladders to get the job done. They patched each hole with a plug and topped that off with some plaster which I had to repaint. Took me a few hours the following day with a paint roller on an extension pole - from a few feet away, can barely tell where a plug is. The house is noticeably quieter. We're looking forward to less strain and cycling on our furnace. Came in a couple hundred under their estimate and handled all rebates with PSE directly - no waiting for rebate checks or filling out forms. My neighbor's were impressed with the crews and are scheduling some of their own insulation work with Einar Johanson.

We recently replaced 16 windows and one sliding glass door in our home. We obtained 3 bids for this job and Einar Johanson was the best price. My husband and I do not like high-pressured salespeople. Our estimator, JD, was knowledgeable, professional, honest and friendly, without high pressure and sales hype. Even if they hadn?t had the lowest bid, we would have preferred them to do the work. We admired the long history and the independent family-owned aspect of the business, and the apparent closeness, good treatment and longevity of employees. Denise and other office personnel were all very friendly and helpful. Scheduling was quick and easy and we were provided with instructions as to how to prepare ahead of time for the installers. Our installers, Russ and Ian, were terrific! They were always punctual, careful to cover carpets and tape off areas for dust control, and not to harm garden areas. They did quality work, were fast, efficient, focused, and always cleaned up after themselves. They were also very friendly and a pleasure to have around the house for a few days. We have very old and thick stucco instead of traditional siding on our outside walls and along the edges of 2.5 out of 16 windows, chunks of this stucco broke off when removing the old aluminum framed windows. The company was helpful in giving advice and referrals for repairing the damage, and returned a few weeks later to finish caulking after we had the stucco fixed. We have already referred them to a couple of friends and have no hesitation in recommending them for window installation.

This company was amazing to work with. From the moment the first call was placed for a bid to the moment they finished up. JD was a great sales rep. He was friendly and so personable. He gave us suggestions for aesthetics and cost savings. He never once tried to push additional features and was very honest. I felt the price of the windows was fair. JD even knew the tax laws surrounding energy credits and was the first contractor I had used that gave us all the proper documentation without asking. Anthony and his crew were great installers. They were so conscientious about our belongings. Never did I even have to dust or pick up after them. They cleaned up so well each day that you would not have known that they were even here. They even helped us move some furniture. I would highly recommend this company.

We first heard about Einer Johanson from our next door neighbor who was delighted at the blow in insulation work they performed. Shortly after that our neighbor on the other side had the same work performed by Einer and was also very very pleased with the process. As we own a very old home, and after hearing the success stories from both neighbors, we called Einer for an estimate. Mark came out and gave us a very thorough walk through (it was apparent he was here for us and was willing to take as much time as WE needed to feel comfortable). After a great deal of pondering my wife and I decided we may be better served getting all new windows as those that were presently in the house were all single pane and then once we realize the outcome would decide on insulation. Mark came back out and again thoroughly walked us through our options. Every window was given a detailed explanation as to opening options, sizes and configurations. Mark was fantastic! He quickly responded back with a bid which we felt was exceptionally competitive, especially know the quality of their work. On the date scheduled the installation crew showed up and did a marvelous job. Timely clean and friendly and open to all questions etc. SO much so, I even cooked up some burgers for the boys one Sat afternoon (Yes, Sat, because they wanted the job completely on time and as scheduled. We love our new windows and for it our house is remarkably warmer and quieter. I would refer, suggest and urge anyone looking to upgrade their windows to use this Company. The experience was positive and rewarding. Nice job, and perhaps some day when we move, we'll try not to go too from Seattle so we can utilize your services again.
Description of Work: Removal of old single pane windows and installation of new double pane insulated windows, with framing and weather stripping. The sales representative, J.D. Angiuli was very helpful in helping us select the product. He was definitely a good source of information. Never applied any pressure. Final measurements were made in less that a week and installation began about 2 weeks later. There were 3 installers, Steve, Erik, and Mike for the first 4 days; 2 installers,Steve and Erik the last 3 days. All were neat, pleasant, and very good at their trade. At days end the cleanup was such that except for the newly installed windows you would not have known they had been there. I selected this firm because of their well earned reputation. I had a couple of lower bids (not much lower) but I think the installation is as important, maybe more important, than the windows. The result is outstanding and I would highly recommend Einar Johanson Co. It has been a pleasure dealing with every member of the firm with whom we had any contact.
Description of Work: The job consisted of removing 15 old aluminum windows and 3 aluminum sliding glass doors and replacing them with new vinyl framed insulated glass. All were installed with the flanges attached and so required the cut back of siding and window sills and returns. Four of the windows had tiles sills.

We had Einar do an estimate (they are on PSE's list of recommended vendors). They scheduled and conducted inspection quickly, gave advice on which walls insulation would help and others where result would be negligible and provided an estimate same day. Once we proceeded, Einar was accommodating with scheduling the work, showed up on time, completed the work quickly (within time estimated), patched the holes, and cleaned up thoroughly. It was a very positive experience.
Description of Work: Our home did not have insulation in the walls (built in 1947 before code required insulation). We had an energy audit inspection sponsored by Seattle City Light, and they recommended one of the most cost-effective measures to improve energy efficiency would be having insulation blown into the walls. We had R-13 insulation blown into the walls and R-32 insulation blown into garage ceiling (which is below floor for bedroom above it).

They did a very detailed estimate of insulation/weatherization improvements, the costs, and the govt rebate we would get. They helped us sort out which ones would give us the greatest bang for the buck. Then we scheduled. They showed up on time, did the work, cleaned up, billed us, and reminded us about tax rebates.
Description of Work: They did jobs on two different homes for us. One involved insulation in the attic, under a floor, and covering ductwork. The house was drafty, and it's now cozy, according to the tenant "an entirely different creature." They also did work on our own home--installing insulation in the attic, which they did with great efficiency. They talked us out of some other insulation ideas which they did not think would be very effective. So I appreciated that.

We had 5 estimates from 5 different window and door contractors. Einar Johanson was by far the most competitive and respected our request that we wanted to think it over. Unfortunately some contractors were not so respectful. The installers were very careful protecting our home during installation and kept a good line of communication with us throughout the process. When completed the house was left very clean. They also walked through the house with us and made sure everything was in order with our new windows. I would highly recommend Einar and his staff to all of our friends.

Overall, we are very pleased with the job. When we first contacted Einar Johanson for a quote, we told them that we were very picky, and expected a top notch job of installation. We were assured we would get it. About a week before the install, they dropped off all of the outdoor trim, so that we could paint it to match the house, and make it easy to just do some touch-up once the the windows were installed. The installation team was very professional and skilled, and made sure that everything met with our approval as it was being completed. In comparing other houses in our area that have installed new windows we feel that ours are much more attractive than most. We feel we got an excellent job at a price that was very competitive with others we had recieved. We have already, and will continue, to recommend Einar Johanson to anyone looking for replacement windows.

Steve Grenier was the Lead Installer with Erik Berry as his main teammate and Travis Miller as a helper. A second team came in to do large framing work. Steve and Erik showed up on the day expected and called when they were running late. The weather was horrible for installing windows - hard rain and cold. The team was stellar on all accounts, particularly Steve, whose attention to detail was greatly appreciated. They took care to lay white tarps over all carpets and furniture where they would be working. They left no trace at the end of each day's work. As we also have a young child, this was greatly appreciated. Our house proved to be a challenge - old crooked walls, odd construction; you name it, we had it. The first three windows they replaced were not the easiest. All three were old, aluminum frame "double step" windows, which made size estimation difficult and all three windows needed to be reframed. As these were in window wells, it made the work slow, but, Steve and Erik's patience was tremendous, despite working in cramped 1.5' wide wells. Four more windows required redoing the sills due to age and cat-claw damage, and Steve and Erik did a great job, matching the old style (rustic wood-cabin) beautifully - this part of the work required a combination of art and skill and the final product met our high expectations. Steve even redid a part of the window frame to correct an out-of-line crooked wall by playing an optical illusion on the viewer, and making a perfect solution to a difficult problem. One of the best parts of working with Steve and Erik was their openness to working with the homeowners. Steve took care to let us know when he had questions or options on how to approach a problem. I never doubted that if he had questions he would ask me and that created a high level of trust and comfort. As "pretty handy" homeowners, there were a few things we wanted to do that needed to be worked into their schedule, and coordinating with the main office and Steve was seamless. Even our difficulty in getting matching materials was no problem for them. It was a pleasure to have Steve and Erik around and to work with Einar Johanson. From the bidding (with J.D. Anguili) to the completion of the project, we'd recommend them 100% to anyone interested in windows or framing work. We were slow in getting this project done, having had it bid out 3 times previously over the last 15 years. We are convinced we saved the best for last - quality, installation, results, company. We'd also recommend Cascade Windows highly and are very pleased with our result. We have another 11 or so windows to do and we will be using Einar Johanson again, and requesting Steve and Erik to join us again (we promise to bake more chocolate cake!!) Final Result: 100% satisfaction, this is an excellent company to work with. We have no reservations in recommending as a quality window replacement company.
Description of Work: Installed: 17 new Cascade replacement windows, including: 2 6'x5' windows with 18" sliding vents; 2 6'x5' picture windows; 2 4'x3' windows with 18" sliding vents; 2 1.5'x3' picture windows; 1 4.5'x3' picture window; 1 6'x3' window with an 18" sliding vent; 2 5'x3' picture windows; 1 3.5'x3 picture window; 1 10.5' x 3 window with 2, 18" sliding vents; 1 2.5'x3' picture window, tempered; 1 3'x2' awning window; and 1 6'x2' window with 24" sliding vent. Performed New Construction/Demolition: - Added 3 new window casings and trim; - Installed a new basement header; - Removed a "door to nowhere" (a deck outside of our living room had been previously demolished - Einar's teams reframed the wall and replaced the hole left from the door removal with a new corner window); - Reframed another wall from the ground up for another replacement window; - Checked for insulation and added or replaced where necessary.
