Description of Work: Fixed my computer which had a number of problems. Explained what she was doing. Made reccos based on how I used my computer. Explained that a number of security apps I had installed were actually compromising the operation and were more problematic than anything. Very satisfied, extremely responsive, very punctual, and knowledgeable. Would recommend 110%. Had other (not Angie's List service provider) work on this machine and not fix it.

Description of Work: I called her today March 27, desperate, because I had "allowed" a company I thought was Yahoo to access my account to find problems. It said that I had been hacked and offered to fix the problem for a fee. I recognized they were a scammer after I had given them my cc # and other info, so I called my cc company, cancelled the charge, and had my cc changed. I then called Carol Ivan because of the problems I was having with my Yahoo e-mail. She was quite busy but said she could come tomorrow night at 6:30. She recommended that I turn off my computer for safety and not run it. Meanwhile my husband figured out that my e-mail problem was that Internet Explorer 10, which I had downloaded this a.m., was not compatible with Yahoo mail. So we removed it, and I changed my Yahoo password and ran Norton antivirus, etc. Things looked better. I called Carol back, and she said that probably was the main problem. She said that by removing the IE update and cancelling my old credit card, I had taken care of the main problems. She then answered a few more questions that I had without my feeling rushed. I will gladly call her again when I have a problem.

Description of Work: I have a number of computers, printers and other devices that I have patched together on a home network over the last 15 years. I decided it was time to get off my wallet and update my entire system. I hired Carol to come out and discuss with me what would be involved in upgrading and simplifying my systems while still being able to work the home office that both my wife and I have. Carol was very methodical in analyzing my current configuration as well as giving me multiple options as far as price and performance was concerned. She allowed me to decide where I wanted to purchase the equipment and we made the choices and ordered the equipment on the spot. I will have her back to hook up the equipment and get my network, back-up and all systems a go for both my wife and I. I have worked with many computer companies and consultants over the years and Carol is the best communicator I have met. She can talk tech when needed but most importantly she can bridge the gap between tech and those of us that are somewhat technically challenged. I only regret that there isn't a rating higher than "A" for her work.

Description of Work: I had called Carol to help my husband with an email challenge; she had him be the "pilot" at the computer to show her what he'd already tried. Then she worked on it. Although they couldn't solve it -- it turned out what he was trying to do hadn't been done before. Our wireless connection to my PC had stopped working and I was amazed how quickly she got it going again -- and we could put away the wire going from one room to another. She also got my laptop wireless re-connected. I was impressed with everything she did and will definitely call her in the future.

Description of Work: Having problems with laptop and did not want to go to big box store where they keep your computer for 2 weeks. Preferred to have someone come over to the house. Called Carol who called back quickly and was able to make an appointment within one week. She came on time, worked quickly and explained what she was doing as she went along. I even had a question tne following week and Carol was nice enough to answer. Would definitely recommend and use again.

Description of Work: My multifunction printer kept giving me a message that there was paper stuck in the rear entry. I combed the printer and couldn't find any. I went online and followed all the expert advice and nothing. Took me two hours. I was sure the message was wrong. Finally,in desperation, although I did not tell her this, I called Carol. I'd had her help several times before with my computer. Carol knows I'm a writer, and like most writers I know, I have a nervous breakdown when one of my machines isn't functioning. I'm almost always on deadline. More successful writers have at least two of each. Carol came and literally -- that is, literally -- took the printer apart and there in the farthest corner was an itty bitty receipt. Then she put the machine back together again. She got this done in half an hour, because she too was on deadline. But she'd showed up the day after I emailed her. Thanks, Carol!

Description of Work: Carol did it again! Yeah! I picked up a terrible virus on the internet that made it almost impossible to even start my computer. There was nothing that I tried that worked. I called Carol on a Thursday, she came out on a Friday. She was able to work her magic and get into my system software and start to work her magic. Unfortunately the scans were taking so long, she decided to take my computer home with her and finish her scans. She called me later that day and said that everything had been fixed and she would bring my computer back to me the next day. She showed up the next day and everything was fixed and running better than when it crashed! Thank you Carol for another great experience! You are the best.

Description of Work: When a novel writer's computer starts behaving oddly or explodes in total rebellion, the writer is very often on the verge of a breakdown herself. My writing friends and I have observed that we exhibit aplomb in the face of relationship disasters, illness, financial problems, wicked reviews, and the rest, but when the computer breaks down, that is when we lose it. In walks Carol Ivan like a therapist, exhibiting the cool we lack; she solves the problem with a minimum amount of trouble, fixes a bunch of other problems that she just happens to spot, and all this with a minimum of bruising to the ego. I've called on Carol for help periodically; she's easy to work with, and if she ever leaves Angies, I don't know what I'll do. Stay, Carol, Stay.

Description of Work: I had had problems with my desk top computer running slow and not performing well. I had spoken to HP in Inda twice to try to solve the problem, with no luck. After finding Carol on Angies List, I emailed her my information and we set up a time for a service call. She showed up, right on time, spwnt approximately 1 and1/2 hours, found a couple of problems, switched my security provider and helped me determine that the major problem was with my DSL. She called me back a week later to make sure that I was up and running. Very professional service!
