We couldn't be happier with the final product, the crew from Carlisle, and the whole planning and execution process. We really enjoyed the relationships we built with Peter (the project coordinator), John (the head carpenter), the construction crew, and the whole company. It was our first major project and Carlisle definitely earned our trust. We'd definitely work with them again. We recommend them enthusiastically. You pay for this kind of quality, but it's worth it.

We are so happy with the outcome of their work.
Description of Work: We began our work with Carlisle Classic Homes in the Fall of 2016. The primary scope of our remodel involved replacing our aluminum siding with HardiePlank and adding insulation to our house that hadn’t had it since it was built in 1939! One of Carlisle’s requirements for taking on a remodeling job is to have weekly status meetings. These were an invaluable time to discuss the progress made, hear any concerns we may have, discuss the budget, and inform us of what we could expect for the coming week. The workers took copious pictures as they went as well as detailed pictures of problem areas that would ultimately need special attention. All of the pictures, finances, status notes, etc. were maintained on a web site that only we could access. Lastly, we cannot praise the level of workers they assigned to our project. Every one was highly skilled and personable. We were able to stay in our house during the entire remodel and they were very respectful of our privacy when their work required that they come inside.

We were very impressed by the quality of the Carlisle work. They really stand behind their work -- we have used them for other projects in the past, and for any small problem that arises they have been incredibly responsive. We are very happy with them and will certainly use them for future projects. On another note: we also interviewed a design-build firm for this project and the bid was MORE THAN TWICE THIS AMOUNT. I am incredibly happy with our design and for this scope of project I really did not feel like it would make sense to put $200K MORE into our home.
Description of Work: Remodeled our basement (including removing an in-ground nonfunctional hot tub --- ewww) which also included re-roofing and re-framing that space, and creating a new bedroom out of that space and also putting an adjacent bathroom in. Upstairs, they completely remodeled our kitchen and powder room, and added back porch/deck.

Brian was very thorough with his energy audit. In addition to the standard things energy auditors are looking for (such as source of air leaks), he was able to flag several things that were either dying or marginally functional that are outside the scope of an energy audit, such as improperly vented bath fans and a nearly dead water heater.

We are remodeling our kitchen, two bathrooms, and adding an office to our mid-century home. They sent two representatives out to my house in mid December to provide a consultation on the work. Once they were done, they told me they were busy and the proposal wouldn't get to me until early January. Said that was fine because we weren't in a rush. I have not heard a word from them since and it's now February! I run a technical company in Redmond and know very well that first impressions are a good indication of how someone operates in business - I will not be using them for their services.

They will not be your cheapest bid but I doubt anyone could find a more responsive crew to work with. They are amazing communicators, honest, and do exceptionally high quality work. I would hire them tomorrow if we were building again in the Seattle area. We had none of the "contractor nightmares" people talk about... they were on top of any changes that needed to be done, did a great job with the subcontractors during one of the busiest building summers in Seattle, and alway kept us in the loop of what was to be expected in the next phase of building.

It went really great. A lot of green building sites recommend Indows (interior storm windows), as a much more cost effective way to get the benefits of modern two-pane windows. They also let you keep your original wood windows, which had a neat style in my house that would've been difficult to replace. I was referred to Carlisle Classic Homes through Indow & was very happy with the service.

Response from Carlisle Classic Homes
Hello ( members name removed), This is Rob Carlisle, owner of Carlisle Classic Homes. I am sorry for your recent unsatisfactory interaction with Carlisle Classic Homes. It sounds like your frustration runs deep. Please help me understand how we have mistreated you so that I might be able to rectify the situation, as well as, make sure we don't upset others in the future. Feel free to call my cell phone to discuss the situation (it is the same number from earlier correspondence or you may call the office and they will provide that for you.) In the process of trying to let you know that we don't do jobs where the client supplies all the materials, you seem to have got the impression we were a scam. That could not be further from the truth. We are able to meet and exceed our client’s expectations by overseeing and controlling the entire process. We have had experiences in the past where client satisfaction has dropped because the client supplied the wrong parts or supplied the right parts at the wrong time (either too early or too late) and thus we’ve enlisted our policy on not allowing the client supply all the materials. In addition, we have found that most client’s want to supply materials to save costs. Our billing is structured by project not by materials. If we build the same garage for two separate clients and one client supplies the materials, in the end the client pays the same amount as the client who supplied material since they only get a credit for that material off of their billing. So, that is why we question the reason a client choose to insert themselves into a process where they can negatively impact their job with no tangible upside. However, we do work with our clients to come up with ways to get them positively involved or value engineer their job to reduce costs. Further, your project was outside of our work area. To help you find a company that works in your area, there is a section on each Contractor’s page on Angie's List that describes the service area of that particular company. This might help you find someone who works in your area with less wasted time and effort on your part. ( members name removed), please let me know how we could have better served you. Again, I am truly sorry for the way in which the limitations of our services came across and have impacted you. Respectfully, Rob Carlisle

Carlisle is not the cheapest game in town but they were definitely worth the investment. We worked specifically with Alex Adolfi throughout the process. After coordinating with them well in advance to set up timing for our construction project, we hit the ground running as soon as school was out. We had a site supervisor on our property every day to make sure progress was being made and, with the exception of of one unforeseen problem, all the subcontractors performed good work. We were very mindful of our budget and were upfront with Alex that we could not go beyond a certain number. We were kept updated as the project progressed and Alex let us know if there were tasks that we could perform to save money to keep our budget under control. From start to finish, our job was completed in just over 4 months which is about 2 weeks over the projected time frame. Our home is now safe (previous owners had done some really shoddy work) and comfortable for our family, which is exactly what we wanted.
Description of Work: Carlisle completed the lifting of our home to add height to our basement plus a complete basement redo.

Alex from Carlisle was exceedingly professional, informative and knowledgeable. This company genuinely appears to have their services and business model dialed in, however, they were a little more high-end than we happened to be looking for. As DIYers, it was hard to swallow a price tag of $60k-80k for turning a half bath into a full bath and turning existing un-utilized space into a walk-in closet with laundry. Granted, the plumbing for the new laundry area was probably something I underestimated, so I hesitate to fault Carlisle at all - they were amazing to work with, and extremely thorough as was Heidi, the architect they use. I've never been more impressed. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is willing and able to afford higher-end results from a top notch company. I can't imagine they would ever disappoint.

Carlisle Classic Homes (CCH) performed a remodel of our kitchen and surrounding spaces. The house is a two-story contemporary style from the 1950?s with a large fireplace separating the kitchen, dining and living rooms on the upper floor. The large fireplace continued to the downstairs. The remodel design provided for the fireplace to be removed to create a ?great room? of kitchen/dining/living room spaces. The kitchen was completely reconfigured. The removal of the fireplace affected the surrounding areas of the house on both floors that were improved during the project. The major items of work included: New kitchen Structural beam reinforcement Insulation of areas exposed by the work Rebuilding of an exterior wall including repositioning of exterior doors and windows New exterior windows and doors Exterior siding replacement Furnace replacement & repositioning, and associated ductwork New plumbing and electrical where exposed by the work Prior to signing a contract, CCH?s Superintendent, Alex, patiently answered our questions as we prepared final budgeting, planning for the project. Communication with Chris the project foreman and Alex through texting, email, and telephone went well throughout the project. CCH worked out the logistics of us living in the house during the project and diligently kept our temporary living space as clean as could be expected. CCH came to work on the house every day. They provided us notice on the rare occasion when Chris would not be coming to the house. Chris did a fantastic job of thinking through details of the project ahead of the work. His ability to adapt the new improvements to the house?s existing conditions was impressive. CCH provided quality demolition, rebuilding, and finish work. Their subcontractor?s work as a whole was good. Occasionally we asked CCH to have some of the subcontractor?s work be ?redone? or improved to meet our satisfaction and CCH complied. Our main suggestion for improvement is for CCH to be able to provide budget status worksheets in a timelier manner during construction. Since the completion of construction, several small items that have surfaced related to the work have been addressed by CCH with no avoidance or complaint. We enjoy the finished product resulting from CCH?s work. We highly recommend them and would hire them again.

Very responsive outfit that hires great subcontractors. Tilework was challenging but installer delivered exactly the look we wanted. Our old beat up and stained oak floors are now gorgeous. Old cracked lath and plaster ceiling is flawless. New doors hung on warped doorways & look straight. The few unexpected issues (as you expect in the remodel of an old home) were dealt with quickly and resolved easily. Subcontractors did some damage to floors in kitchen. Carlisle stepped right up and made it right. Our point person was professional, responsive --- got back to us generally within a day of leaving a message. Took a little longer than predicted, but we expected that. Quality work isn't cheap, but overall the end product & excellent service was worth it.

The project went fine. This was our second time using Carlisle and as before, all work was done to a high degree of quality by very professional people. We're rating them a little lower this time than last because although the work was good, the communication channels weren't as good as last team, sometimes leaving us unsure when things were happening or if anyone would be coming over on any given day to do work. A fairly minor thing, but we were perhaps spoiled by them last time.

The Carlisle team was excellent, especially the crew leader, Rick Bower, and the "front man," Dave Pelton. The team was here when they said they would be. They laid down coverings to protect our wood floors and always cleaned up at end of day. The work they did was meticulous and high quality. The insulators were in and out very quickly. Piping in the insulation resulted in some popped plaster, which Rick and crew remudded for us. When cutting the holes in the cupboards for the kitchen exhaust, Rick used a shop vac much like a dental hygienist vacuums as they work. The house was clean when the work was done, except for a very fine level of dust that cannot be avoided. They always cleaned up at the end of every day. The work has been high quality. when we've needed adjustments (door closures, popped plaster), they have responded quickly and made the needed changes. The level of service has been very high. I will definitely consider using Carlisle when we make future upgrades to our house.
Description of Work: We were assigned Carlisle as part of the Community Power Works project in Seattle, to upgrade the energy efficiency of older homes. We replaced doors and windows, insulated our brick house and attic/floor spaces, installed exhaust venting in the kitchen, weatherstripped, etc.

Carlisle did a wonderful job converting an unfinished/unusable attic area into a storage area. They removed the existing insulation then built a platform high enough to add insulation back in and still maintain the R value. The platform added 60 sq. ft. of surface area for storage. A whole house fan was installed in addition to an attic ladder that retracts into the ceiling. The work was completed in less then 2 weeks and the crew was professional, conscientious, and kept their work space organized and clean.
