Description of Work: I purchased the drain clean out and scope from Angieslist. The first time someone came out, their scope was too big to fit in my drain. Had to reschedule. Second time they were to come out, I received a call from Bob Oates trying to schedule a time to re-scope. I informed them that it had been rescheduled and they were due at my house in 20 minutes. After some confusion, he agreed to show up, a little late. Well a little later than that he showed. He scoped and saw there was a hole in my side drain. I asked him to provide an estimate. He told me he would send one along when he got back to the office. 24 hours later, no bid. I emailed. Still no bid. It took a few days and a few apologies from the owner but eventually I received a bid of close to $9000. I got a second estimate from another Angieslist provider. They came in close at $8500. But they also came up with an alternative that would save me $6000. I went with that option.

Description of Work: Because of the type of bathroom sink I have it was extra money to clear the block. Workers were great, efficient, pleasant - all around exceptional. My only disappointment is that the company's offer did not specify any exclusion which my type of sink was.

Description of Work: The service men were very nice and extremely helpful. I thought the price the company charged for a small replacement pipe was expensive. The repair was more complicated than I originally thought and the service men did a great job.

Description of Work: They came on time, were pleasant and skilled. Did the work quickly, cleaned up and I was very pleased.

Description of Work: We had a plugged outlook pipe to the sewer; they came the next day and responded very quickly. They showed us the problem, cleaned the pipe and the price was reasonable. I did not give them a straight A because the man who came told us there were some issues with the exterior pipes that needed work; he said he would get back to us with an estimate of what the issue was and the cost. We did get us a call once with no message left, but despite several attempts to get back in touch with them, and messages left with them, they never called us back. So, we thought that was a bit odd. In any case the service they did provide was good.

Description of Work: I bought a Big Deal for unclogging a drain and I thought it was a great price. Bob Oates plumber arrived right on time and took care of the problem. Tub is draining great now!

Description of Work: I'm no idiot. I knew exactly the ballpark that this work should have cost. I was seeking a quote/bid for a full sewer line replacement for my Wallingford 1906 home that tied in with neighbors. They came back with a quote that was nearly 20,000 dollars more than their closest competitor. I nearly fainted and then I laughed. At least they were punctual and professional, and OH-SO-RESPONSIVE in the wrong way.

Description of Work: My downspout drains were blocked. The worker was prompt, provided good explanations of options and got right to work. Unfortunately, the drains could not be cleared.

Description of Work: I'm not usually one to write negative reviews, however the experience with Bob Oates was so bad I feel obliged to document it. When they came to hook up a water line to my new refrigerator, they quoted me a price which seemed high, but not unreasonable, and did the job promptly. However, I then asked them to look at my cold water tap to the kitchen sink, which had been weakening for years. Rather than identifying the problem and giving me an up front quote for the entire job, they told me first it was just the elbows at the back to the pipes in the walls. They quoted me a price of ~$500 for both hot and cold, which I accepted. Then it turned out not to be the elbows, but the pipes from the elbows to the basement. At this point the cold water tap did not work at all, since they had stirred up so much corrosion with their work. They said it would be ~$900 "for the job", which I took to include the elbows. They did not write out and have me sign a quote, so this was ambiguous and I was clear what I had heard. I just wanted the job done so I could get out of this nightmare, so I said go ahead. When they finished they charged $1400, the sum of both iterative quotes, rather than $900, which was the verbal understanding. In summary, I acknowledge that the work that was done was good, but I fault Bob Oates on two accounts. If they would have been able to better diagnose the problem going in, I would have been able to make a more informed decision about whether to proceed, and whether, in particular, to get competitive bids. Also, they should have provided written quotes for the entire job, and not surprised me at the end with an overpriced charge. In total, it was a very negative experience and I would not recommend them.

Description of Work: Came out on Saturday & diagnosed, price seemed high, but if I could get the work done that weekend, so be it. He said he'd be back Sunday. Or Monday. Monday I called the office and they could get him in on Tuesday. Late Tuesday he calls and can't get there until Thursday. Thursday I'm told Friday. So we had rearranged our schedules three days and no action. We were leaving town on Friday, so couldn't meet a plumber until Tuesday. I called back and left a message. Got no response, so I left a message that we wouldn't be needing their services.
