I live in a new construction town-home. My neighbors (in the same building) had a problem with their toilet drain getting clogged and the waste water backing up and leaking under the toilet and into the bathroom floors. Roto-Rooter (who diagnosed their problem) told me that it was because of a construction error. Not wanting to have to completely tear out my bathrooms like they did, I called Bob Oates Plumbing to give me an estimate on checking to see if my home suffered from the same construction error. When James (I'm so bad with names - I think his name was James) arrived, I explained what I wanted. He told me that the "construction error" I described was not actually a construction error and that checking for that situation would not accomplish anything. He gave me helpful advice on what might cause the problem the neighbors had and told me what to look out for. He was at my house for maybe 10 minutes, got along well with my dogs, was polite and kind (and not condescending), gave advice that made sense, and charged me nothing. It was a very positive experience and I will definitely call them next time I need a plumber.

I live in a 100 year old Craftesman - with new plumbing and sewer, but you never know. I had a bad experience sometime back and was anxious about calling anyone. I found Bob Oates Plumbing, Sewer & Rooter on Angie's List and I liked that they did plumbing, sewer and rooter - not HVAC, and even paint my house! I called at 7 am - they sent Jeremy out that morning. I liked that he wore a shirt with the company logo and his name which made me think from the start that he actually worked for the company. He was courteous and listened to my explanation of the problem. He explained what he would do, gave me a written estimate for the work he would do explaining if it didn't correct the problem we'd go from there. He "cabled the kitchen sink by removing the p-trap out 50' several times clearing blockage pulling back hair, grease and miscellaneous food build up. He reset the p-trap and tested k/s with water line is open and draining at this time." The bathroom sink was cleared while cabling the kitchen sink. That charge was removed. Jeremy gave me some welcome suggestions for keeping the sinks draining freely and products not to use on the plastic pipes and recommended a product safe to use. My bad experience is behind me and I'm pleased to know if I have problems in the future I have a plumbing company to call that I would trust. I would highly recommend this company based on the work that was done for me yesterday.

It went amazing. They sent out a young plumber who went above and beyond. He found the issue and actually entered our storm drain himself saving us thousands to fix the issue. Otherwise we would have had to break up a section of our concrete driveway to resolve the issue. Highly recommended. I wish I could remember the younger chap's name. We gave him a great tip and I doubt another plumber would have taken on such a challenging task themselves or even would have been able to fit.

I called Bob between 4-5pm and he got an appointment next day really appreciate Rick came out and found the problem from lose faucet. Then fixed. He answered all my questions.

Conrad arrived a few minutes behind schedule but was very professional and thorough. Also very friendly and explained the process well.

The plumber did not installed the toilet correctly, it is now kind of sideways, and the seat has become wobbly very soon after the installation. Then, the provider charged me the second time even though the voucher was pre-paid, and I had to contact the billing department and get the monies refunded. Overall, seems a very sloppy approach.

Although the installer was about an hour and a half late, they did call to let us know that he was struck in traffic. The toilet was installed with no issues. Later that day, we noticed that the toilet had scratches on it so I called Bob Oates and they sent someone out the next day to take care of it. All in all, it was a good experience.

This is the fourth time in 7 years they have helped me. They put down a camera to check the pipe, and found it needed extensive work before I could use the coupon value, and considerable more money. Regretfully, I have to postpone this particular service until a bid is made and I receive agreement with my neighbor who shares the line.

Recommended an expensive (approx 6k) clean out be installed due to heavy root intrusion. Got a couple second opinions and an inexpensive clean out since it was very light roots.

Bob Oates has good reviews on Angie's List so I called them for rooter service. During that service they discovered that the toilet flange had rusted almost all the way through so it needed to be replaced also at a separate service. The rooter service was generally positive on punctuality as they came out same day and resolved the problem quickly. My only objections were that they left a mess of you know what particles all over my bathroom floor from their rooter machine and down the hallway to the front door. They did not put down any floor protection or have any with them. The service to replace the flange was easy to set up and the price was competitive, but they are an hour behind their latest estimated arrival time and three hours behind their earliest estimated arrival time. I called at 30 minutes past the latest to inquire and only then was I told that everyone was behind and that two of their workers were out sick. I was not told this during a call to confirm that today was the correct day. My time is not without cost so a simple phone call to update the time estimate would have allowed me to stay at work. Though their staff was courteous in explaining, they were not courteous of my time in arranging the appointment. Furthermore, on both visits, neither technician knew what they were doing beforehand and showed up blind. Both times they had to either leave or call someone else to bring a part or tool that took at least another hour. If the workers knew what they were doing before they show up, they could have the part with them and not have to go back out and get it. This wastes both their time and mine and further exacerbates the problem of becoming more and more behind as the day goes on. For the poor communication and poor post-work cleanup, I won't be using them in the future nor recommending them.

The plumber was punctual, courteous and knowledgeable and answered what ever questions I had about the problem, the solution and future issues. His solution saved us a lot of money, whereas another plumber wanted to needlessly replace rather than repair, and the cost would have been many times what we paid. I will definitely call them again and will recommend them to others.

I purchased an Angie's Deal for a toilet replacement at $325 for a standard toilet. I requested an upgraded toilet for an additional cost. The service person arrived on time. Surveyed the bathroom area and began work promply. I mentioned to the service person that the water shut off valve on the wall would not turn the water fully off and it was running 24/7. The service person fixed this as well at no additional cost. The service person was in and out in just about 1 hour, as he promised. Very happy with the results.

The service men showed up 3 times to video my sewer line. The first time they came a week early but still tried to do the job since I was home and available. However, since there was a blockage, the first man recommended I trade in my Big Deal for a roto-rooting clean out accompanied by a video after the cleaning so they could see more clearly what was going on in my sewer line. We rescheduled for the following week but the first man had a personal emergency and was unable to come. The second man came in his place and did the clean out and video but was unable to break through the root ball causing the blockage and video blackout. However, what he did see indicated the very old original sewer line was breaking down and needed to be replaced. They then came out a 3rd time since the bidder/estimator was unable to find the video the 2nd man had taken. They carefully viewed the line again with a video camera and marked the locations of key points in the line with paint outside. They were very professional and knowledgeable and informed me about their findings and recommendations, telling me verbally about the estimated costs. They said they would e-mail me the written estimate/bid but I never received it. It turns out their bid got lost in the Ethernet because they left out my middle initial in my e-mail address. I ended up going with another company for the actual work because I didn't receive their written bid or the video in a timely manner. In addition, I've had an e-mail exchange with the office person about the charges for the work done (video and roto-rooter cleaning). I was originally advised to apply my original Big Deal cost of $119 towards the $250 cost of roto-rooter cleaning plus video. It took several e-mail exchanges to get the office to finally credit my account for the $119 since I had been charged both the $119 and the $250 (plus tax). After reading my original review, however, Bob Oates personally contacted me immediately by phone and e-mail to correct the mistakes; he was very honest and conscientious in his efforts and I truly respect his business ethics. I also really liked the men who came to my house and did the work: they were professional, knowledgeable, and helpful.

Skylar removed the old galvanized cold water pipe and installed a plastic pipe which is totally unacceptable. Looks crappy and cheap. The plastic pipe comes out of the wall at an angle with no security to the wall with a hole in the plaster around the pipe in the bathroom. He said this this how it is done now. The shutoff valve just hangs there and not secured to the wall. He then filled out the invoice and charged me time to do that. He charged me $58 for a $5 5 foot plastic pipe and $28 for a pex fittings and $29 for a $5 the shut off valve and $12 for a supply line, totally over charging me for the parts. He charged me $120 per hour which is way more than I was quoted. If he had installed a galvanized pipe and secured it to the wall I wouldn?t be so unhappy even though he would still have over charged me. I feel he stuck it to me and I got had. I was expecting an invoice for about $250 for a 4 foot galvanized replacement pipe Secured to the bathroom wall to match the other pipes in my house. I am very unhappy and if Bob Oats does not fix it I will have to get another plumber in here to do it right.
