We were looking for a handy person to do several odd jobs that we had not been getting done. We were happy to see a woman owned business and, because the business had such great ratings, decided to try AmyWorks. AmyWorks send Steph who came early, was efficient, tackled some unusual jobs and didn't quit until we were all satisfied. She was neat, personal and quite professional. Most importantly she loved our dogs and wasn't freaked out by the raccoon who lives in our woods. We would definitely use this Handy (wo)man service again and recommend it to our friends and family.
Description of Work: several odd jobs around our house: put in light bulbs that were too high for us to get to; repaired a wall heater; put up insulation in a hard to reach spot; fixed a cabinet door, fixed an outdoor gate, stabilized a toilet, and took off a door because our schlage lock battery had died and we couldn't access our shed. (the battery was inside)

I found Amy and her coordinator Shelia to be extremely friendly, and punctual. Amy even helped me fix something minor in my kitchen when she was giving me the estimate (no charge). I felt very strongly that I could trust her business, and would like very much to have gone with her. But the estimate for work was significantly higher than other bids that I received, and I was able to find an option that was lower price but that I felt I could also trust. I can strongly recommend that you reach out to AmyWorks for jobs you're considering because I believe that she and her team will do good work.
Description of Work: Estimate was provided for a tiling job of ~120 square feet of kitchen and landing space, including removal of 2 existing layers of flooring (tile + plywood) and the preparing the surface, installing hardibacker, and then the 12" x 12" tiles and grout. We didn't go with AmyWorks only because of the price. The other bids I received for the same job were $3800, $1500, $1500. The second highest bid was also a "company" but the two lower bids were individual licensed contractors operating as sole proprietors.

Very pleased. I emailed Amyworks yesterday (Sunday) with a job description and they called me this AM to schedule. They had a cancellation and so Kevin came to the house before noon today. Kevin was very pleasant, worked quickly and did an excellent job. In addition to getting the stuck door to open and close smoothly, he also was able to solve an additional problem that I had with the same door. The price was fair. Overall I'm very pleased.

She was GREAT! The curtain required her to take down both rods (curtails and sheers) and replaster the area, then rehang. I asked her to look at the sliding shower door while she was there and she happily fixed the door as well - which barely opened/closed. Not only that she explained to me how to do it myself if it comes off the slider again.

They were responsive, communicated well, and scheduled work for us in a timely way, which (especially given our experience) was really appreciated. I noted that they get good reviews for the quality of their work. Since we didn't use them, I have no way to review that aspect. They did provide a detailed explanation of what they would charge. I thought their prices were high, and was put off by their "trip charge" fee. It was hard to know how much we would actually have to pay because this was an hourly rate versus a flat fee for the job. I prefer a flat fee because one never knows how fast/slow a contractor will work. I also noted in one of the reviews that if they purchase items for a job, they charge their hourly rate for the shopping time which really surprised me (and was a red flag for me),
Description of Work: We contacted them when we were in a bind with a contractor who hadn't completed a tile installation and related projects as scheduled. We had a tenant ready to move in when the place was ready. My husband contacted lots of "handymen" providers through Angie's List and AmyWork was the only one to respond. Ultimately, we didn't need to use them because our regular contractor finally came through for us at the last minute.

The provider charged a 20% fee for bringing materials. Since it was only a tube a caulk I opted for that since it would only cost an additional buck and I wanted them to work with a brand with which they were familiar. However, the worker, Steph (who did a fine job with the caulking) elected to stop at the Home Depot in Sodo, instead of the Home Depot in West Seattle. That meant that the clock started for work being done at the moment she walked into the store. So I was charged an extra $55 for her picking up a tube of $5 silicone. Now, in their original email they had said I would be charged for "procurement (when we shop for you)". However, I never imagined that would put me on the clock at $75/hr until they showed up. Especially since they elected to go to a store several miles away. I asked some friends of mine who are contractors and none of them charge for that. It's nonsense. You have to make the trip anyways. I could understand if MAYBE you charged for the time it took you to walk into the store and find the item... but starting the clock and leaving the meter running until the work is done? When I finally had a chance to write in about this, after asking around to see if it was usual, it was Feb. 20th. I was told I'd hear back after their staff meeting on Feb. 23rd. No reply came until March 3rd, offering a credit of $37.50. It was nice that they made that offer but they also included the excuse: " While enroute, she made a short stop at the Home Depot on Lander Street to purchase your caulk. We shop at stores that specialize in construction materials as we've found that Target and similar stores don't always carry the right materials or have an adequate inventory for our needs, and can be a waste of time for our customers." This completely ignored my mention of the West Seattle Home Depot just 7 minutes from the house. Talk about a waste of time for their customers... After further negotiation we settled on $41.25. Now, the work itself was fine. It was just caulking a bathtub, which is super simple. I would have done it myself but my girlfriend was selling the house and wanted a professional receipt to show the work had been done. But the hassle around the process, and the ridiculous policy of charging customers for drive time, the lame excuse, and the slow response time, turned my opinion completely to the negative for Amyworks.

As you might expect with a basement remodel in a 90 year old house, there were a few surprises. AmyWorks was quick to inform us, quick to adjust plans and their skiill & creativity meant just one change order. We've done several remodel projects of different sizes with different companies, but AmyWorks was first to finish close to the promised date. Of course, the leader on the crew, Susan, put in a couple very long days to make that happen. This is a first class operation & we would use them again!
Description of Work: Ripped out a 1960's era basement mother-in-law kitchen & bath. Leveled concrete floor. Installed new floating floor, IKEA cabinets, kitchen sink, shower, toilet & bathroom sink. Replaced old ceiling light fixtures & installed bathroom heater. Installed new window.

The AmyWorks contractor was on-time and a seasoned professional. He managed all of the details with the 3rd party door vendor and even got the new door expedited given that it was a break-in (thanks Franks Doors!). When AmyWorks was done, you couldn't tell anything had happened--new spray foam insulation was applied around the cracks to weatherize and the trim was put back in place. Professional, very fast, and very reasonably priced with less than 5 hours of labor including the drive up to Lynwood from Seattle and back for the door itself. Thanks AmyWorks!
Description of Work: My house had been broken into. The door was kicked in damaging the door jamb and door. The AmyWorks team took down the old door, repaired the jamb, put a temporary piece of plywood while a new door was built and prehung by a 3rd party, then installed the new door, all within 36 hours.

The office was helpful and efficient with scheduling, and Steph did a fantastic, careful job. She asked me all the right questions when I hadn't quite thought through what I wanted, and just kept on working, quietly, pleasantly, and efficiently. This transformed my home and inspired me to continue overhauling my home's "decor". It would have taken me 10 times longer to do a much worse job, and I would have made heaps of mistakes and probably suffered tremendously in the process. I am thrilled.

See above. Please note, address where the work was performed, below, was required by the Angie's List form. No work was ordered or completed as very little communciation happened and I couldn't get a bid.
Description of Work: I requested a visit for a bid. The contact person Sheila asked for my email address, home address, phone number which I supplied. She notes that she would send something from her work email that week. I never heard back. I probably wouldn't have placed this review save one detail: The Angie's list note from Sheila relayed to my email inbox included an auto-generated request as follows. <<Please respond to all messages within 2 business days to continue progress on your job.>> The attitude of entitlement combined with unresponsiveness earned this poor review for AmyWorks. I've cancelled my bid request.

Response from AmyWorks Inc
I apologize for our non-responsiveness to your work request. It has been an exceptionally busy time and our staff is trying to stay on top of all the incoming work. The auto-generated response requiring some action within two business days is created through the Angie's List system and not through AmyWorks. We don't have any control over the wording of the message or the perceived required response time.

Most of the communications went through Angies messages. I had built and used this driveway gate successfully for a few years but wanted to install a latch that locked from both sides that I found on the Internet. The first person that came out told me to buy a couple of things and when the estimate came out, it didn't include installing the lock. I was very clear on what I wanted with pictures, detailed emails, and the first guy just was fixed on telling me these gates always sag and that was the problem (it is an anti-sag gate with adjustments just to prevent that). Sorry, but a typical guy response... why I went to a woman run business. Another handy man that I usually use wasn't available but saw the lock and said it was only for a fixed post situation not a driveway gate that closes in the middle. The lock is from Australia but made by Stanley here in the US and quite expensive. I was so uncomfortable when the quote didn't even include installing the lock (!) but fixing a gate that wasn't broken.... Though the guy told me he could do the work the same week, by the time the communication filtered through to give me a quote, he wasn't available. He was focusing on the gap overlap. Because it was uneven (as I pointed out in pictures to them). I questioned myself ... even though I knew it could be done... and it worked fine as it was without a latch that locked...and hopefully save money, I took the boards off, corrected the gap to specification to convince myself that it could be done. After I got that done and was certain someone with the right tools could install it... I said I didn't want to have them do the work... I would find someone else. They asked if they could send out the most experienced technician to see what the problem was on Monday and I agreed to give them another chance. Susan who came out absolutely understood the lock, the gate and could put it on. She did and it worked great. It took a couples of hours and was $150. The time it took though was a problem because I was going on vacation and now did not have the time to screw the boards back on. So I asked that Susan come out and do that, I left all the materials available and for $275 that was done. I had put up four of the boards and with the new level they had to be cut so taking a few hours was a bit pricey but at this point I just wanted it done. When I got home from vacation it looked great.... BUT... there was a 2X4 under one side of it in order to level the gate to the lock! I am so frustrated with this company and wanted to support their efforts with a good review but I just can't. We come here to get an honest opinion from other members. That is why we pay to be with the service. The work all around was average and the price very high for average handyman work. $75 and hour to pay someone to learn how to do something is a lot.

Diana arrived on time and professionally dressed. She is a very friendly lady who got right to work. I was surprised at how fast she put together the craft table.
