Alex was great from the start, very friendly and professional. I told him what I wanted done and he suggested a few more problems he saw. He emailed me an estimate that included everything we had talked about. I decided to do some of the work myself and he was very understanding about working out a new estimate to fit my needs. The work was done quickly. He helped me get my inspection and everything is working great. I have done a few other projects since he completed his work and have been extremely pleased to find he thought of the little details that have made things later on.
Description of Work: New breaker box and GFCI outlets added to kitchen and bathrooms. Removal of a secondary, redundant breaker box.

My wife and I wanted to put in programmable, digital thermostats for our electric baseboard heating system. Unfortunately, one of the thermostats controlled 5200 watts worth of heating elements, making off-the-shelf solutions hard to find. A&A came out and provided a free estimate for a code-compliant solution, and fixed the wiring in a broken light fixture while they were out. The solution for the heating system came to $220, including parts and labor, plus $150 for the repair to the light. As I had been unable to diagnose the lighting problem myself, and could not find a solution to the thermostat problem, either, this seemed like a fair price. A&A charged $65 each for the two programmable thermostats, which was in line with the prices I had found elsewhere.
Description of Work: Repaired wiring on a broken light fixture, and replaced two thermostats for electric baseboard heaters.

We bought a 1934 Tudor with the original wiring. This meant there was very few outlets in kitchen, bathroom and basement. The house needed a complete upgrade. When we first took ownership of the house our furnace broke and we had no heat, antiquated wiring, a December snowstorm, plus we were leaving town with the plan to have work done while we were gone. Alex was very helpful and came to our home, replaced old fuses, and made sure the heat stayed on in the house so the pipes would not freeze while our floors were being refinished. We had not even hired him yet for the electrical work. Alex was very responsive to our needs, and would always show up and try to fix the problem. Alex worked well with other contractors, ie, carpenters, plumbers to get the job done. Alex worked with an assistant, John, who was very reliable and creative. He always tried to satisfy our requests. He would show up on time and work steadily throughout the day, crawling into small spaces to get the work done. This was a very large job and very demanding.
Description of Work: The house is a 1934 Tudor. It had the original knob and tube wiring. Alex did a panel upgrade, installed one 200 AMP panel with up to 30 poles of breakers; installed service cables from meter base and panel, installed new wiring in the house, new outlets and switches in all rooms including garage. Did all electrical work for remodeled basement. Installed wired smoke detectors.

Alex did a fantastic job start to finish. His initial estimate was very thorough and he located some issues that the other electricians did not. Alex was very polite, puntual and reasonable in price. I hired Alex for the first job in the end of August (bottom duplex- $986) and then again two weeks later for the second job (upper unit- $950). I will hire him again soon. Great job.
Description of Work: I purchased a 1952 duplex in mid August. Alex updated and/or grounded almost all of the outlets in both units and added GFI protection to many outlets. He also added a new outlet to the bottom unit office and new outlets to both bathrooms.

Very punctual and professional. Clear about his fees ($160 to troubleshoot and any extras get a quote). Hopefully, he's solved our power outage problems once we get City Light out.
Description of Work: Power was out in part of my house. I called first thing Monday morning and Alexander came out that morning. He found a breaker that wasn't completely flipped, a loose wire behind the breaker box, fixed 2 outlets that weren't working, and identified a problem with our connection to Seattle City Light that the city needs to fix.

Alex was absolutely perfect in his placement of the ceiling cans in my living room. He there was no additional marks or cracks on the ceiling even though I have a 40's era ceiling. He performed all of the work very quickly and cleaned up very well. I would highly recommend A and A Electric for any work around your home.

Excellent. The electrician made an appointment for 2 days out. He was punctual, and brought everything he needed, except for the thermostats, which we selected and purchased on his recommendation. He installed them, and quickly solve some unexpected obstacles. He works quickly, but also carefully. He always does an excellent job.
Description of Work: We needed to have thermostats installed on 3 electric baseboard heaters in order to track and control the room temperatures relative to electric consumption and electric bills. The heaters only had rheostat knobs that were all guesswork as to what temperature we were maintaining the heat at.

Our experience was very good. We got good information about the alternatives, and additional information on what was required to pass inspection after the work because of our old house with old wiring. Communication was good, and on the day that the work was done, we were impressed with the consideration paid to keeping our carpet clean and cleaning up after the work. The price was competitive.

Project went pretty well. Alex handled the permitting, which was nice. He also didn't gouge us on "permitting fees" like some other bidders. He finished the work within a week and on budget. When the city inspector required some additional grounding off the main service panel, Alex took care of that too even though it was not part of the original work scope. In the end he came by the house about five different times taking care of nit-picky requirements of Seattle City Light. I'm not sure if this could have been avoided by being more thorough, but we were not charged extra for the additional house calls and small fixes.
Description of Work: Installed new mast for residential electrical service. Acquired permit (required by city to get re-connected to service). Added minor grounding wires as required by city inspector

We needed an electrical contractor on a short notice. A&A went out of their way to accommodate us into their schedule. The project estimation was professional (we got several good tips from them in the process) and the quote came shortly after they had done the estimation. The amount they quoted was similar to a quote had received from another contractor. We chose A&A because they seemed friendly, professional and reliable. They started the work just as promised and got it done on schedule. We were very pleased with the way they communicated with us throughout the project, as well as with the quality of their work. We had used another electrical contractor for an earlier project. In our experience, A&A was superior to the other company both in terms of accessibility, responsibility and work quality. We were especially impressed how tidily they did the dining room wiring replacement. We had just had the walls and the ceiling plastered, and were worried that the re-wiring would require tearing out big parts of the plastered areas. The way A&A did the job, the plaster stayed completely intact. We thought that was a good example of how much trouble they go to in order to do a good job.
Description of Work: Wired our upstairs as part of a remodeling project (complete replacement of existing wiring + adding more outlets, switches and radiators). Replaced some wiring, an outlet and a switch in the dining room. Replaced the panel.

They arrived in the morning, surveyed the situation, double-checked electrical code, discussed the options with me and then worked the rest of the day to complete the job. Alex was fairly punctual, arriving at the beginning of the time slot given. I explained what we needed done and took him to the breaker panel to explain a few of the things. He was not very thorough in his questioning about what I wanted done, and did not think about most of the things that all of the other electricians asked about or considered to make their estimate. About the only new piece of information that he offered was that I'd have to replace breakers because they were a different brand than the panel.

I contacted A&A to get an estimate for some electrical outlets to be installed and a light switch. Alex came on time and was professional and friendly and even had some good suggestions as to how to handle what we wanted done. He took my email address and said he'd get back to me in three to four days with an estimate, having already told me it'd be about two weeks before they could do the work, which was fine w/ me. I waited a week and a half but never heard back so called. Alex then told me it would be at least two weeks IF they were to do an estimate for me and two more weeks after that IF they did the work. It sounded very much to me like he didn't WANT to do the job so I said OK, maybe I should call someone else and he said fine and that was it! If they didn't want to take the job (was it too small? was it something they didn't know how to do? what??) They should've had the courtesy to let me know instead of wasting my time. This was a job we were trying to get done and their lack of courtesy messed up our time line. A big PASS from me for them in the future!

Fine. We always use this electrician because he is very methodical, professional, and makes sure we always understand the details of the problem and how it is resolved. He also makes reasonably prompt appointments and always shows up on time.
Description of Work: We had a wiring problem that was not repairable by the obvious solutions. A & A climbed into a very difficult and overheated attic space to discover a poorly wired connection dating back to the 1920's. They repaired the connection and resolved the problem.

We called Alex and he came at short notice and gave us a bid. He came to do the work about a week later and arrived on time. He quickly repaired the ceiling light. Repairing the doorbell turned out to take quite a long time because it was difficult to locate the wiring in our old house. Once he did, Alex repaired it fully. Overall, he did an excellent job.

Alex removed the old baseboard heater and the old wall mounted thermostat, covering the thermostat outlet. He extended the wiring to the new location and installed and tested the new Convect Air unit. All throughout the work, Alex was very careful to protect the furnishing and the rug. He was extremely neat and answered any questions I had as he proceeded. I felt very comfortable in his capability and unrushed mannerism as he worked.
Description of Work: An old baseboard heater ceased to function properly. The original task was simply to replace the baseboard heater and the thermostat. In order to permit more freedom in arranging the furniture, we decided to locate the heating element against an adjacent wall which had less space. Although more expensive, Alex suggested a Convect Air Wall heater, which appeared to be more state-of-the-art plus had an built-in thermostat. He provided a new estimate using the Convect unit. We decided to go with the Convect Air unit.

The owner came to my house and I showed him the three things that needed to be done. He quoted me a price of $175 to restore power to my deck outlet, $35 to replace a GFI outlet in my shed, and $175 to fix the wiring to my porch light (I have the old tube wiring and several feet of it had lost its cover material so he cut that part out and replaced it with new wiring and a junction box.) I agreed for him to do the work at the prices quoted as I wanted to get it out of the way. It took him approximately 15 minutes to fix the deck outlet, yet he still charged me the quoted $175. He worked less than 2 hours and I paid $485 for all the work. He did not offer me the 5% Angie's List discount he advertises on Angie's List even though he knew that is where I got his name. It seems that his workmanship is good, but his prices are outlandish. $175 for 15 minutes of work is a "rip off."

Dear customer it is unfortunate you felt I overcharged you. Sorry I did not explained the invoice when you wrote the check you seemed to be in friendly mood and did not ask any questions; therefore, I mistakenly concluded you don’t have any issues with the invoice and no need to explain anything. Let me clarify the numbers. First of all the total in the invoice was $419.24 including sales tax, labor and materials. Second: time spent loading and unloading tools and cleaning up is also part of the job, and it took more than two hours to complete the work. Yes it took me less time than anticipated to fix one of the outlets but it took me longer than I expected to fix the wiring for the porch light. If you take this all into the account and subtract sales tax and materials the hourly wage came out to be $95/h. It is reasonable hourly rate knowing that a lot of companies charge $75/h-$110/h. I am always willing to explain any charges on a bill, and transparent about my invoices.

We made an appointment to get an estimate of the work we needed done. The contractor arrived on time. He reviewed the spec list very carefully. He did not rush through the estimate process, but took his time to make sure he fully understood each one of the issues on the inspection report, as well as the bigger picture of how the house was wired. He gave us a very clear and detailed explanation of what he discovered, and exactly how he planned to resolve each problem. We especially liked his communication skills.
Description of Work: This contractor systematically made repairs that our home inspector inspector listed on his inspection report prior to our purchase of the home. The contractor also recommended alternative solutions that saved us money, and made some additional necessary repairs that he noticed while working on the project.
