Alex of A&A Electric was professional, honest, friendly, and efficient. He did a fine job and made no promises he couldn't keep.
Description of Work: Three exterior porch lights and a bathroom ceiling fan needed to be replaced. In the course of the ceiling fan replacement, it was discovered the vent for the ceiling fan was improperly attached. At my request, he replaced the vent pipe and exterior fitting.

I highly recommend Alexander and A&E electric. We had a big job done on our house. Rewiring from knob and tube to current standards. We also used this opportunity to add additional outlets and lights. The job was big enough that the job was over two weeks. Alexander worked diligently until the job was done. He was very good at describing pricing and features of the house that might make the job more difficult. He clearly knows everything about electricity and city and county requirements. He also took care to use the least invasive procedures on our 100 year old house. Highly recommended.

This is the second time I've called Alex for help troubleshooting and repairing some electrical problems in our house. He is always efficient, reliable, and gives me a good sense of how the problem started and how to remediate it. My sense is that Alex values integrity and takes pride in the quality of his work, and I will plan to call him first with any further electrical problems or jobs we may have.

Alexander was great from start to finish on my breaker panel job. Beginning with a visit to scope out the work, he discussed options and their associated costs. I added on work between the estimate visit and the work visit; he accommodated that well. All communications were clear and he always was prompt to respond and on time to arrive. On site, he was quiet, courteous, clean, and had to do a fair amount of troubleshooting to meet the challenges of the situation and achieve code compliance. This was all done for a fair price. I will definitely ask Alexander for future electrical contracting work.

Alex responded to our inquiry for installing an outdoor electrical outlet by visiting our house and providing good ideas and options for us (also trying to replace missing fasteners on our existing electrical panel). Once I approved his estimate, he was able to quickly start the job within a few days to provide us charging power for our new Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). Alex was courteous and professional at all times, requesting my opinion for different aspects as the job progressed. Administration of the project regarding his proposal and my payment for the work was also efficiently completed online. My overall experience from beginning to end of A&A Electric's work on this project was excellent, and I certainly appreciated Alex's ability to complete the job quickly.

Alexander was able to dig me out of a complete mess I made trying to wire some Insteon Switches myself. Insteon is an app-based way of controlling many electrical devices. I use it to control five outdoor lighting "zones" so that they turn on and off at designated times. It is Internet based so it knows exactly when sunrise and sunset is every day in Seattle. It's a terrific was to create Scenes and then never have to bother again. Alexander connected the switches properly and made sure they were all working via the app.

Very well. Alex quickly diagnosed the problem (something that another electrician had trouble with), was reliably on time for doing the work, went above and beyond the call of duty in fixing it. We were very pleased and will call him again if there are future electrical provblems.

It took a few days to get a response from my initial contact, because local electricians seem to be in a busy spate at the moment (so I was informed by another service). However, once the contact was made, the appointment was also made super-quickly, and the work itself took almost no time and was done satisfactorily.

I've hired A&A a couple of times in the past 7 years. First time, they fixed electrical outlets in the master bedroom. The second time, they called me back letting me know that they're extremely busy, and their next non-emergency appointment availability would be in 3 months. No one likes to hear that, but this is Seattle and all good labor is at a premium. I highly appreciated the prompt reply rather than being ghosted by service providers. The most recent time, I called regarding my kitchen outlets. A&A responded the same day and troubleshooted with me over the phone to determine whether or not it was a simple issue. They didn't charge me after the simple troubleshooting, and I appreciated that.

We have been an A&A Electric customer for many years now. We have had outlets replaced, bathroom fan timers added, ceiling fans installed, and intermittent flickering light issues look at. Alex completed all of these repairs efficiently and we have never had any issues with any of the work he has done. Alex is up front regarding pricing. He gives an estimate as to how long he thinks it will take and he has always been accurate. Our largest and most recent project was an electrical panel replacement. He took the time to go over all the details regarding what would be required to replace our panel. He answered all of our questions on the type of panel to get and what extra features (like a whole home surge protector) were worth it. We scheduled the project for a few weeks out. He arrived on time each day and gave progress updates as he did the work. We are very happy with the panel upgrade.

A&A answered my voice mail next day. A&A bills work by the hour, with the first hour costing more. The hourly rates were quoted on the phone. I have forgotten the quotes, but they seemed high (see totals for work, below). Based on the high quality reviews I read here, I made the appointment anyway. A&A diagnosed that the problem with the hot tub was not the breaker. They volunteered to diagnose the hot tub, but recommended instead that I call the manufacturer for that. For the outdoor lighting and outlets, A&A made the outlets functional, and replaced a non-functioning solar sensor with a simple switch inside the house that can control the outdoor lighting near the hot tub. Total time for all the work was approximately two hours. I subsequently called Olympic Hot Tub to fix the hot tub, and they completed the work.
Description of Work: I had two items I wanted A&A to look at. First, the hot tub in my back yard was constantly tripping the circuit breaker in my home when power was applied. I was uncertain whether the problem was with the hot tub, or the breaker itself. Second, I had non-functioning lighting and electrical outlets in my back yard that I wanted fixed.

He has put in light fixtures for us and repaired light fixtures. I think we’ve used him 3 times. I’d give him all A’s. I would use him again, in fact he’s coming next Friday. If they want a good overall electrician, who is reasonable by current prices in Seattle, I would say check this guy out.

The job was fine. However, the work was performed in September 2016. The company did not invoice me until August 2017 (without explanation for the late invoice). I had forgotten about the work and assumed it had been paid at the time services were rendered. However, I had to go through my credit card and checking records from last year to make sure I wasn't double paying.

The work itself went well. The problem was the cost. The estimate I received on the job was for a job that would supposedly take two electricians four days, and the price given seemed reasonable of that much work. However, the work only took the two electricians a total of less than seven hours, and I was still charged full price (over $2,800). I asked for a significant adjustment, and was told that this could not happen, with explanations about how this was harder because it was a 5 story building (although in my section of the building, I am on the third of only 3 floors), and that I was never quoted the amount of planned work as if I had hallucinated this timeframe. I was eventually offered $200 off, but I turned this down, as this was a woefully inadequate amount of adjustment. I paid the full amount, but would NEVER hire this company again. The work was certainly done adequately, but the price was ridiculously inflated.
Description of Work: I hired A&A Electric to perform a number of tasks, including wiring a new outlet for a built-in microwave (requiring a new sub panel to be installed), wiring a new outlet for installation of a wide-screen TV, and wiring another new outlet.

Response from A&A Electric
We try to keep all our customers happy and was saddened to see that we could not achieve this here. We delivered as promised per our written agreement despite that the estimator has underestimated what it would take to do the project. If we were to bill per our hourly rate the bill would have been higher than the amount we agreed on and yet we stuck to what we promised and billed exactly what was in the contract. Still this was not acceptable to the customer due to some alleged verbal promise, which was a misunderstanding. When the customer refused to pay the bill we explained to him our rates and why we can not meet his demand to lower the bill by $1000 on $2800 invoice. Part of why customer is refusing to accept our rates possibly comes from wrong expectations. He used our services several times in the last decade when he lived in the single family house and now moved to 4 story building and was expecting the same rate. It has been a few years since the last visit and our rates went up, in addition we have a different rate for buildings taller than 3 stores and the customer is living in a building with 4 levels. It is a common industry practice to have higher rates for buildings 4 stories and higher due to higher grade licence required which goes together with higher labor costs. Residential electricians are not allowed to work on these buildings, commercial license is required and, therefore, the billing rate is higher. Again the customer is refusing to accept this stating that he is is on the 3rd floor. This rate is dictated by which license is required and has to do with how many stories are in the building and not what level you live on, that is why it does not make a difference that the customer located on the 3rd floor, the rate is determined by how many floors are in the building and his building has 4 stories. Regardless what our hourly rate is we did not bill per hourly rate, if we did the bill would have been higher. We billed per agreement that the customer signed and it was reasonably priced.

It was fine. They came out, and fixed the problem. They were good. Did the job. Nothing outstanding in particular. Price was fine. It was good. Explained what he was ding, and interested in discussing other projects we had in mind. Discussed other projects without increasing the time and other stuff.
