The quote was for $800. We had to estimate the movers altogether down from Mesquite Nevada and that was in the range of $7000 which was quite a bit better than some of the other providers. It looked like they really know what they were doing once they are hired. Certainly I don't have anything bad to say about them. Over all they were a bit pricey. I would consider them to provide a quote in the future.

We have moved numerous times over the years and Big Al's was the best moving company we have had. The scheduler was friendly and easy to work with. The three men who came to do the move were amazing. I couldn't believe my eyes when one of them marched by me carrying my treadmill like it was nothing! Highly recommended company!

Overall, the move went extremely well, The stove is an antique that would be extremely hard to replace or repair. They were very conscientious of the fact and treated it with a great amount of care.
Description of Work: We purchased a 700+ pound antique kitchen stove from a listing in LA. The stove was shipped to Portland but the shipper would not do inside delivery. We contacted Big Al's and asked if they could pick up the stove from the shippers warehouse and deliver it. Their response without hesitation was "yes". On the day of delivery they picked it up and then called to let us know they were on the way and how soon they would arrive. They pulled up in front of the house, asked if we wanted it uncrated (it was fully crated in wood so we needed it uncrated), they uncrated it and then gingerly took it off the truck. It was awkward and very heavy. They transferred it from a pallet to a piano board used to move piano's so it would fit through the doors. It was moved up the seven front steps, pads were placed on all of our floors, they gingerly moved it into the kitchen and placed it exactly where we wanted it. These guys were awesome, always smiling and letting us know what was going on.

My daughter was very nervous and I had reassured her that all her preparation for the move was great, and to try to relax and let go, knowing the movers would step in and take over the task. This was her third move in a year, and she was weary of it. Her neighbor was moving the same day and he contracted with Big Al's, as well. They arrived on time and set to work, trying to reassure my daughter that all was in good hands. When the other crew finished moving her neighbor, they came over and began helping at my daughter's. With their help a long day moved along faster. She said everyone was professional, warm and friendly, working very hard to get the truck loaded and delivered to her new home, about a mile away. The final price came in just under the estimate and all in all, she could not have been happier. She finally realized that they were right - she could relax and watch it all come together. We will recommend Big Al's at any opportunity and will use them without hesitation in the future, for any of our family's needs. Thank you so much for your great work ethic and professionalism.
Description of Work: I have used movers throughout the past thirty years in the greater Vancouver, WA area. When my daughter needed to make a recent move, I checked Angie's List and was impressed with reviews for Big Al's. I felt that any company that specializes in moving pianos and has received the quality of reviews that were presented, deserved our business. While this move was my daughter's, my husband and I were paying the bill to help her through a difficult transition in her life.

They arrived when they said they would, took direction as to what was going to be moved and then we stood back and watched them make quick work of getting everything packed and loaded and moved. The crew were VERY good at what they do and got the chore done very quickly. They set things up in the new space, and when they left, things were exactly as we wanted them. They were friendly and professional and did a great job. I would highly recommend Big Al's Moving.
Description of Work: Big Al's was wonderful. Someone came out and looked at what we wanted moved and gave us a bid. The day of the move they were on time and performed their work quickly and efficiently, with no damage to our furniture, and were easy to direct in the placement of that furniture in the new office. What a wonderful experience.

Wonderful. I called them after the buyer of my piano gave me the payment. All phases of the move were handled well.
Description of Work: Buyer of my piano paid for the move but these guys were great to deal with. From the person who answered the phone to the movers, the whole process was great. I requested they come as early as possible to not have to take too much time off work. They were very accomodating. Hard working courteous movers, professional equipment, would definetly recommend them in the future.

I was extremely happy with them. They came out when they said they would. They were very professional and took great care. I have hardwood floors and they went the extra mile to make sure nothing got scratched up. It was a very old piano, which was kind of beat-up that was given to us, and they took care of like it was brand new. They were very nice and really careful about everything. I would rate them highly and would definitely use them in the future if necessary.

It was a great experience. they were careful moving our baby grand. It only took about 20 minutes each time, as they were only moving it about 15 feet through one doorway. My only complaint was the price being so high, and it way only high because they had to come twice, not because it was a hard move or that they had to go very far. Overall, it was extremely quick and professional.

We bought a piano from a residence in Vancouver. I called Big Al's and they were responsive and thorough with their information. They gave me a cost estimate on the phone, and it was not the lowest or highest I received. Piano moving is expensive and their prices are right in the ball park, for a respectable piano mover. The movers arrived on time. My house in SW has a lot of stairs and very steep driveway. They covered the stairs to avoid scuffs, and moved the piano without any damage to anything. They were professional! I am not sure on the price, this was last Fall but seemed like it was $225, $250. I would definitely hire them again for this task. Quality, professional, and on time.

I was so happy with the first time they moved me and this time I wasn't very happy at all. I am not sure I would use them again. I think it just depends on the crew that shows up. Since they were being paid by the hour, of course you want them to move quickly and there were times when a couple of them were just standing around. This particular crew, unlike the first, didn't seem as adept at moving large pianos and it made me very nervous. They nicked some paint while moving something down the basement and never said anything to me, and overall didn't seem as professional. It was disappointing since I was so satisfied with my first experience. I told this to a receptionist at their office, but I never heard anything back from them.
Description of Work: I used this company for a second time 2 years ago when I finally found a house. They picked up my antique upright piano in Milwaukie, unloaded a storage unit and a small rental house I had been living in, and then moved me into my new house.

These were BIG guys and they easily moved everything-I couldn't believe how quickly they moved my piano. They were very efficient and careful. The price was extremely reasonable, especially considering they delivered to 3 different places. I was very happy with their work.
Description of Work: Approximately 3 1/2 years ago they moved me from a house, which I had sold, into a small rental house. They also moved my very heavy antique upright piano down to Milwaukee where someone was going to "babysit" it for me until I could buy a house. Most of my stuff went into a large storage unit.

I'm not sure how to rate them (though I did do the grading summary). The crew consisted of 2 guys (big, amazingly strong Samoans). They were very friendly and seemed professional. They had a very large truck. However, I was unnerved throughout the entire process. They packed up the paino rather nicely (and wrapped the legs - which must be removed for a grand). But the home has a difficult place to get the piano out (or in). They had to bring along a very long ramp... maybe 16' (?) because they had to take the piano out on a rolling platform and onto a deck. I removed the railing for them and they installed their ramp which extended to the ground about 5' down. They then began to slowly wheel it down that ramp... but it all accelerated and down they went... but stayed with it and stopped at the bottom. They were out of control, but were delighted that they survived at the bottom... giving themselves high-fives that they made it (or, more correctly, they didn't trash the piano). It COULD have been a total disaster but somehow, because of their brute strength, pulled it all out. I guess I shouldn't gripe because all's well that ends well... but I wasn't particularly happy. They, on the other hand, seemed profoundly relieved. I wasn't there at the other end of the delivery to the refinisher of the case (Alladin), but I didn't hear of anything adverse. Alladin highly recommended Baxter Piano Moving for the move to my new place (a few months later), and they were absolutely fantastic (and I've reviewed them too).
Description of Work: Moving my grand piano from my home to a refiinisher. [This report is about 3 years old because I just joined Angie's List.] As I recall, they may have been referred by Moe's.

I e-mailed 2 companies and called 2 companies to get quotes for moving a used baby grand piano. Big Al's gave us the lowest price ($167-187) and described the measures they would use to move the piano. I called on a Monday and they were able to schedule the move for that Saturday (our first choice). They called ahead to let us know they were on the way. They navigated their truck up a very steep driveway and took excellent care packing up the piano. They were respectful of the seller's nostalgic feelings towards her piano as well. They re-assembled the piano at our house and even gave us tips on how long to wait before having it tuned. Lastly, the gave us a discount for paying by check, making the price lower than quoted. Woohoo!

In moving upright pianos, they dead lift the pianos straight up and over onto a dolly (even player pianos- the ding, dang heaviest things on this planet). They do not scratch floors, or dent walls or mar the pianos. I am always in awe when they come into my world.
Description of Work: Big Als Specialty Movers gives me peace of mind. They are my princes and knights in shining armor when it comes to moving pianos. I've used them for many a year to move all of my pianos. How many pianos, you may ask. Literally a thousand or so. Why so many pianos? Well, I own the piano store- The Immortal Piano Company. Big Al's is mainly comprised of Samoans who dance with the pianos. They are kind, courteous and have a sense of humor. They give you a fair price and give you more than excellent service. Yes! Office staff very helpful, responsive. Pickup was was scheduled between 9:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M. Office staff advised that movers would call 1/2 hour prior to arrival. Movers did call about 45 minutes prior to arrival. When movers called, I advised that house is on a flag lot with a narrow, circular driveway which might be difficult for a 24' truck to negotiate. I suggested that when movers arrived at top of driveway, they get out of truck to size-up driveway. When movers arrived, one of the men did walk down the driveway, but truck started down drive before any assessment had been done. I suggested that truck stop, back up into the street, then back down to house. Movers ignored me; truck arrived at tight turn in driveway and determined truck could not proceed. The movers added an additional 80 feet to the distance the piano had to be pushed, up a dirt and gravel driveway (after some struggle, plywood was laid out, over which to roll the dolly). I advised office staff, regarding plan to take piano to Metro Transfer Station; movers were uninformed. Mover used foul language and smoked a cigarette on my property; I hate cigarette smoke.
