They were very punctual, friendly, and they really took care of our things like they were their own. I would recommend them to others and have. They were willing to move anything, and they wrapped and padded everything. They were great.

When you own a piano that is valued in the high five figures, you want good movers and Big Al's were great. I'm an engineer as well as a musician, so it was fun to watch them break the piano up (surprising how you do that with such an expensive instrument) and get it all wrapped up and sent out. We had a *lot* of stairs to deal with, all of different lengths, in the path up to the new house, and they managed it well and with good humor. They even suffered through my wife having them adjust the position of the piano five times, although to be fair I warned them that would happen... Great service, good attitude, and Big Al had even lived in the part of Honolulu my wife grew up in!

-The experience was easy from beginning to end. The staff and movers were knowledgeable and professional. I gave them the dimensions of the bookcase, and they quoted me a price, that while rather spendy, was actually very reasonable for the service they provided. I was quoted a date for pick-up and for delivery. I was told the movers would call 24 hours before both pick-up and delivery to confirm arrival time, and then 30 minutes in advance of actual arrival. They did get caught in rush hour traffic in Los Angeles, but they were precisely on time for delivery. This is a very heavy piece of furniture (300-400 pounds)--too big for the building elevator--so the two movers carried it up a flight of stairs with a switchback halfway. They were so careful, good-natured and professional. They placed the bookcase carefully in the spot I wanted it, and hauled away a desk I didn't want anymore. These guys worked so hard, and so well, and were a great team. They earned every cent I paid. i did lots of research before hiring Big Al's, and there were places that offered lower estimates, but did not seem as knowledgeable or communicate as clearly and timely as Big Al's. I would definitely use them again, and highly recommend them to others

These guys are amazing. Funny, kind, professional, as polite as a person can be - all three of them. They moved fast. They came into the house saw the piano while my sister-in-law and I were chatting and all of a sudden they were ready to leave. I wasn't even finished talking yet! Then for the bigger move, they were just great. My mother-in-law has a tendency to get in the way and these guys just let her and didn't push or say anything to get her out of the way. They waited politely and respectfully. They are fun to work with, have smiles on their faces and you can tell they work together a lot because they all just move easily and seamlessly. We will hire them again to move my mother-in-law again to a smaller unit within her building. ugh!
Description of Work: We hired Big Als first to move a very old, heavy piano. Since they were so great we decided to hire them again to move my mother-in-law into an independent living situation.

My son wanted a piano for Christmas, and we were lucky enough to find some neighbors that were willing to lend us theirs. I certainly didn't want to screw up their piano by trying to move it myself, so I contacted these guys about a week before Christmas. They were able to fit in within a couple of days, they contacted my neighbor themselves when it was time to pick the piano up, brought it to our house, and gave us advice on situating it properly. A great job altogether!
Description of Work: Good, professional, punctual service performed in good humor by some definitely big people. They were able to fit us in just before Christmas and did the job quickly and cleanly.

Big Al's made the moving of our piano so easy. Everything that I was told over the phone happened exactly as they said it would. They even called us to tell us exactly what time they would be coming so there was no waiting around. They were extremely careful in moving our 6'4and quot; grand piano down 3 stairs no less! We will definitely use them again the next time we need to move our piano.

Al is great. He comes over first and takes a tour of the house and then sends you an estimate. He's very clear, and fair. Our wonderful crew was led by the excellent Albert, who (upon my extra request for help packing) said and quot;no problem!and quot; and worked like crazy to get it all done. You won't be surprised to hear I'm still unpacking boxes, considering how tardy I am with this review (my apologies to the good folks at Al's). What I've noticed as I go, though, is just how carefully Albert and the crew packed our stuff. Much appreciated! The boxes I packed weren't half so nicely put together or protected. The entire crew seems to have super human powers of strength and endurance. This move was BIG. A long, long day, and they never slowed down. I was really happy to have their experience and expertise when it came to moving my big old piano, too. They're experts. They also happen to have great personalities. Really a nice bunch to be around and very much in communication with you as they work, making sure where you want things to go, etc. I can't recommend Big Al's Specialty Movers highly enough. Many thanks to you good people.
Description of Work: I had called on Big Al's before when needing a piano moved. Martha Taylor at The Immortal Piano (where I bought my piano) recommends them very highly, and deservedly so! They even gave me a price break when I borrowed one of Martha's pianos (thank you, Martha, for lending it to me!) years ago to do a gig at the Doug Fir. Most recently, they moved and helped pack (a desperate, last-minute request on my part) our entire three-story house. It was a big, big job and it required--at some point--nearly the entire crew, and two trucks. They worked hard the entire time, full speed ahead. Seemed almost cruel for them to have to unload the truck after all that work packing it up, but they did it with no drop in energy or good cheer. Exceptional people and an exceptional business.

The original appointment was to be between 12 and 2. They called in advance to tell us they are coming.f Three guys showed up on time. They are fun people, very easy to work with, very professional. They pulled it out of the house and had it loaded in 20 minutes. They followed us to the destination because we didn't know the right address of the storage unit, only where it was. They put the piano in the storage unit and handed us a bill. Very nice people. We would use them again tomorrow.

The experience with this company was great. We had a lot of time to plan our move and did our due diligence to find the right company. I contacted approximately 7 total local companies plus one national company that sub-contracts to get various quotes. Big Al's was one of three companies that actually showed up for the estimate and was responsive (several of the other companies didn't even bother to call us back when we requested a quote...one made an estimating appt. with us but was a no show). In contrast, Big Al's was professional from start to finish. They were one of three finalist companies and their pricing came in right in the middle. We ended up choosing them even though they were not the cheapest because we felt they were reputable and professional, having given us a more formal quote than the others and seemed to be more organized. We weren't making a decision for a couple months after the original estimate was provided, and Big Al's was the only company that actually contacted us on the date we needed to decide to follow up which shows great customer service and organization. On the actual move day, they were early to the job and got right to work, taking care with our belongings. They were quick, efficient, had good attitudes and looked professional. They finished the job in the time estimated and I believe the final cost was about $100 less than estimated. We received follow up from the main office to ensure we were satisfied. Big Al's seems to really care about their reputation and they strive to provide a quality service in order to maintain their reputation. If we were to move again in the future, it's very likely I wouldn't even bother getting a quote from another company. I also recommended Big Al's to a family member who was moving out of state. The family member ended up hiring them and had a good moving experience just like ours.

I initially called Beth for an estimate several months ago in anticipation of moving, she was very professional and straight forward in providing an estimate. When I called back once we had a home to move the piano to, she was able to find the details of our original conversation and confirmed the estimate. The crew that actually showed up was on time and very professional. We have an older upright that has been in my family for 4 generations and they handled it with care. 3 men showed up and moved it easily through a tight space, down several steps, into the truck, and up a flight of stairs in to the new house. We would absolutely recommend them again for piano moving.

Three guys arrived. My compaints are limited almost entirely to the head guy (don't remember his name but he was big and told me he was from Samoa, and identified himself to me as being in charge), who was horrible and the least professional mover I have ever worked with. First he asked where their donuts and coffee were. Ok, I gave this the benefit of the doubt, as a possible joke. Comcast had told me the Comcast unit and the tv stand out and into the new apartment before 1 pm when the comcast guy said he would come to the new apartment and that all of that had to be ready by the time he got there, or he would leave. I had to remind the moving guys every 15 minutes to do that. I said go ahead and get it done, so we will have it over there for sure. When it was ten minutes of 1pm I reminded them again, so they did it, but did not complete it by 1pm. This showed me that there was not respect for my requests. About 3:30, the big Samoan guy said, ok check your original apartment and make sure we have gotten everything out. So I did. It was amazing what they had left in the apartment: My bicycle!!! (and it was even inside my apartment!) several boxes of things, about 5 items in a closet, 2 items still in my outdoor shed, and a box of miscellaneous items in the kitchen. I came out and told them to get those items they had left in my apartment, and told them that was unbelievable they had told me to check to make sure they got it all out and that there were so many items that were still in there. Then the head Somoan guy said to me , and I kid you not, and quot;Well. we need to go because I am hungry.and quot; I said, and quot;I can't believe you would portray to me that you thought you had gotten everything out, when you had left so many items, including my bicycle. He said, and quot;Your bicycle is not in a boxand quot; as his excuse! I told them to move the items they had left, and that I had arranged for to have them on my job as late as 6pm if needed, and that if he was hungry he should have brought a sandwich! He also told me that the five items they had left in in the closet were not in boxes and if they had to put them in boxes they would charge for that but the items were pretty big and easily would fit on the moving slelves they were using. I went ahead and dumped my carefully arranged boses of books out and put the five items in the 2 boxes so they would take them. The other two guys were meanwhile telling the head guy, and quot;this is no big deal, come onand quot;, so the other two were being nice. I couldn't believe this head guy's attitude. He started arguing with me and yelling, waving his hands around not too far from my face and pointing his finger at me. This took place outside on the sidewalk. I said don't waive your hands and point your finger at me again or I will call the Police. His other two guys told him to stop and told him and quot;Let's finish the job,and quot; and he said, and quot;No it's over. We're throughand quot; threatening to walk out on the job. I said No, we are going to keep working, and kept working bringing things over from one apartment to the over, myself. The other two quieted him down and convinced him to keep working, which he then did, but grumbling. He said I was and quot;trying to trickand quot; him and was and quot;testingand quot; him. He seemed resentful when I told him that I wanted something placed in a different place than he had put it. Finally they finished and as he and I met alone to settle the bill, he told me that he was sorry and that he shows respect for his Dad. I said nothing, merely paid the bill, (thinking way too little, way too late on his last minute and quot;I'm sorryand quot;) and handed tips to the two other guys, thanking them for their help. Of course, no tip to the jerk. This was the worst move and professionalism I have ever seen. I sure thought I was going to get something better from Big Al's. I am very disappointed and am tempted to contact the BBB.
Description of Work: Three men from Big Al's (with me helping) moved my belongings, including furniture, from my 1st floor apartment to another 1st floor apartment that was only 4 doors down and in the same apartment complex.

We went from a 2-bedroom apartment on the fourth floor to a house on the golf course with no steps. Coming down those steps was a real drag. They are good with people. They were a young couple and just starting out in business. They did whatever they told us they were going to do and in the time limit and money amount that they told us, which really surprised me, especially how fast they did it. There was the owner and 3 other guys and the wife was giving directions. They cracked a big piece of a section of a wall unit and they came over two days later and fixed it. I can't even tell that it was cracked. I expected to pay more.

Easy to schedule. They asked about our house and where the piano was located. Easy for them, it was in the garage. They arrived, 2 large young men and one HUGE guy. Put the piano on a dolly and wheeled it out to their lift gate truck where they secured it and transported it to the new location. As far as I knew everything went OK on the other end as well. Very nice people to deal with, very professional, A great experience overall. Highly recommended.
