I have really enjoyed working with Ryan throughout the entire process of design and building of my outside living area including exterior shower. I appreciated the way Ryan listens in the early process of providing guidance while also taking some of my ideas and implementing them into his design. Throughout the planning and design, I felt that I could trust Ryan to respond to my questions and take care in addressing all my concerns. Ryan built my house a few years back and after living in it for a couple years, I looked to him to assist in a redesign of a couple areas that were important to me such as a clear story glass aluminum frame. The glass and frame is such a marvel both in its design function but, also in the way of how it’s aesthetically placed to my existing roof lines. There have been several things that I have enjoyed working with him on including his design vision and eye for details. Ryan also works and hires the most qualified, talented and nice people. I highly recommend Ryan and his company, Johnson Custom Builders. It has always been a pleasure to have him on a project.

Ryan responded quickly and we were able to discuss the scope of our project. He followed up by talking to the city building department to determine what was possible and proposed a plan to get started. He also talked with us about other projects we had in mind to update our existing home. Very professional!

Johnson Custom Builders completed a beautiful remodel of our master bathroom in 2012-2013. He worked with us to design a modern bathroom that has completely met our needs. He and his crew did the work efficiently, with minimal mess and disruption to household functioning. When the thermostat on our heated tile floor expired recently, I reached out to Ryan. He promptly helped me obtain a new thermostat and connected me with his electrician to install it. I am very grateful to Ryan for his original work and his recent assistance. I will use Johnson Custom Builders for any remodelling needs in the future.

Shortly after submitting my Angie's List request I received an email response from Ryan. We scheduled a date and time for him to come by for a review / interview regarding our carport project. He arrived on time and was here for about 1 hour. Throughout our discussion, he was very thorough and professional while pointing both pro's and con's to the project. I felt I had enough information about the work required, the approximate cost range to completion. The owner, Ryan, was prompt, professional and courteous. He is very experienced in the industry and recommended several creative solutions to some old outdated layouts and materials with maximum value in mind.

I bought a house designed and built by Johnson Custom Builders. The quality and attention to detail is unparalleled. I have been in the home for nearly 2 years. Over this time when something comes up in need of repair or replacement I have called on them for recommendations. Ryan is always quick to respond at times even making the call himself. Ryan was really friendly and responsive. He gave us a lot of great ideas for remodeling our house. The scope of the projects he suggested were bigger than we were imagining, and we are still considering how we want to move forward. Scheduled a meeting with Ryan very shortly after my inquiry. He arrived promptly and we discussed various options for a remodel/addition. The ideas he threw out were very intriguing and I liked his vision. Ultimately did not decide to do this addition but still appreciated meeting Ryan. And he wore a mask!

The consultation went well. Ryan explained the process and gave great insights into what the vision would be for our project. Took his time to really explain the steps/process and listened to what we were wanting. Provided examples of cost analysis so we could understand the full scope of the work.

I was in urgent need of a licensed contractor for a home loan appraisal and Ryan and his team came through and quickly performed the work as requested by the appraiser. I would be interested in using Johnson Custom Builders to perform any future remodel plans I have.

Thrilled! That’s how I describe the outcome of the home remodel we recently completed with Johnson Custom Builders. The overall remodel took just over 4 months and included completely renovating the kitchen, dining room, living room, and family room. We started the project over 2 years ago with another custom design firm and spent 18 strenuous months trying to finalize the design. Having gone through the design process we knew the original firm was not who we wanted to work with during the next phase of the project, so we started interviewing custom builders. After talking to several we came across Ryan Johnson, owner and operator of Johnson Custom Builders. He immediately stood out from others by being clear, concise, thorough, and detail oriented. We did our due diligence by checking references and reviewing past projects to confirm Johnson Custom Builders was our choice. The last thing we wanted to do was repeat the painful experience we endured with the original firm. As expected, we had to wait to get the project started. Pre-COVID, no quality builder had immediate availability. All were booked several months out, and Johnson Home Builders was no exception. Fortunately for us, Ryan used that time to become intimately familiar with our design and bring several new ideas to the table that allowed us to overcome the shortcomings we had accepted in the original design. We were pleasantly surprised by Ryan’s design skills. Even though he specializes as a builder, he brought several excellent ideas to the table that utilized practicality while meeting our demand for a modern/rustic PNW look. Never did he push us to simply make a decision so he could stay on track. Throughout the process he guided us by providing options, trade-offs, and setting realistic expectations while allowing us time to digest the information and select what we wanted based on budget and functionality. Communication is paramount to the success of any project. This is no secret, but often diminishes over time and results in missed expectations and failed projects. Being a detailed person myself, the one thing I appreciated most about Ryan’s style and approach was his dedication to weekly, on-site, status meetings and written status reports. These two things eliminated the ambiguity of where we were at in the process, what decisions needed to be made by us as the homeowners, which decisions were final, and what to expect next. The notes were simple, concise, and proved to be extremely valuable throughout the project. The quality of the final product is a culmination of the skill, attention to detail, and quality of materials used to build it. We only influenced the materials with our budget. Ryan and his trades brought the skill and attention to detail to the project. Having closely monitored the quality throughout the project, we found very few issues and the few items we did find were handled immediately by Ryan and the team with no hesitation. Now that the project has completed and we were able to fully move back into our home, we couldn’t be happier. The end result is stunning! The quality of work that Ryan and his skilled team of trades produced is amazing. Friends and family that have seen our new home are amazed at the transformation. It’s clear that Ryan and the Johnson Custom Builders Team takes pride in what they do. I highly recommend JHB to anyone who is looking for a quality, reputable builder that will listen, guide and deliver the home of your dreams.

Ryan was great. He came to the current house we were renting to show what we liked. He then came to the other house we were in process of buying so he got an idea of what we could do. He was able to draft plans of a new design and was very flexible. After we get moved in and settled we plan to start remodeling.

After placing our contact request online Ryan was the first to reach out and introduce himself. He drove out to meet us the next week and spent over an hour of his time listening to our list of desires, concerns and constraints. All the while he was able to answer our questions and provide design ideas with options that would make the project more budget friendly. My wife and I were impressed by Ryan's customer service and the spectrum of talents he offers as a designer, architect and contractor. He's a one stop shop and we certainly intend to offer him our business for any remodeling projects moving forward.

Ryan was great to work with! He was very clear in communicating costs and providing updates as the project moved along. He was great at talking through options s with us and making adjustments as the project evolved. He completed the project in a very timely manner, was respectful of our home and keeping things as clean as possible. Also loved that was up for communicating via text, email, a quick call or an in person conversation depending on what worked best for us! Would 100% recommend him and we plan to use him again for the next phase of our kitchen update.

I discussed my remodel with Ryan & he was very helpful with creative ideas. Unfortunately, I was in a big hurry & he was going on vacation so I took another bid, which I regret to this day. I know Ryan would have done an excellent job and would have been easy to work with.

Ryan was very prompt and detailed with providing us an estimate for a full kitchen remodel. He was very professional and was on par with the other contractor. We worked with Ryan on getting a bid for remodeling a garage into living space. He was very professional and creative with adding to our ideas. Our project is on hold for now but would feel confident using his company

Ryan was absolutely fantastic to work with. He took time to understand our short, medium and long term needs and was able to phase out the project with future projects in mind. We completely updated the exterior of our 1924 home with new roof, gutters, drainage, skylights, siding (stucco, along with some deep water damage repair in a few areas), exterior painting, repaired chimney, updated electrical and a custom built french door. The work was executed thoughtfully and cleanly across the board, with expert advice given along the way. Although the work was expensive, Ryan put a lot of time into providing options at different price points and was super flexible with our payment timeline. If you're looking for someone responsive, thorough and thoughtful, Ryan's your guy.

I hired Ryan (and his architect partner Jay) to design a home in Kirkland -- a teardown and 5000 sq ft new home build on a steep slope on the water. I contracted the design and construction separately. When the permits were issued and it was time to select a builder, Ryan was busy with another large project and was unavailable for my construction. Relative to design, Ryan has an excellent eye for both form and function -- better IMO than most builders. He is very creative and as a builder, bridges the gaps between aesthetics, function and "build ability" extremely well. He helped a lot with many stunning design choices including a fantastic 20-ft wide sliding door to the patio.

We were super impressed by Ryan Johnson. In preparing for our full kitchen and attic remodel, we met with so, so many contractors (GCs, flooring, carpenters, architects/engineers, etc) and Johnson Custom Builders truly came out at the top. Ryan was prompt and clear in all of his communications. He got in touch with me right away to schedule an appointment after I requested a bid. He showed up on time, and we had a thorough conversation about our project. He clearly has a lot of great ideas and knows what he is talking about. He quickly caught some elements in our drawings that could be done differently for better effect. As a woman who is interested in design and building, I often feel diminished or disrespected when meeting with contractors, but with Ryan it felt as if he was talking to me as a peer. I deeply appreciate that. After our appointment he promptly sent me a very detailed cost breakdown for a project that was similar in scope to ours, and was patient as I asked clarifying questions. In the end, we decided we wanted the adventure and learning experience of contracting the job ourselves, but will gladly come crawling back to Ryan with our tails between our legs if we end up needing to hire someone.
