Fine Design is one of the best companies we have dealt with. Not only did they meet all of our expectations, they anticipated our needs and helped us make decisions when needed. Never once were we charged any surprises or hidden costs. Patty and Gail are a great team. Sub contractors were all timely and professional. We have given their card to several friends and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
Description of Work: Full kitchen redesign and remodel. This also included opening up the kitchen to the larger sitting area.

Response from Fine Design Interior Remodeling
This remodel was a real collbererative effort as the clients had already done quite a bit of work on their own, and had a pretty good idea of basically what they wanted to accomplish. We came in and with their ideas and ours, and our team of people, we were able to help them achieve the final results, which we feel turned out just stunning. We facilitated transforming their non functional kitchen and giving them an open concept kitchen more conducive to their style. It was a really fun project all the way around.

Smooth, easy to work with. See above
Description of Work: This is my second time hiring Fine Design for a large remodel. Because they did such a beautiful job on my current house 4 years ago I knew who to call for my newly purchased home. Patty and her crew came in and helped with updating the kitchen and totally redid the small 1/2 bath into a beautiful large full bath and laundry room. How they took this medium space and added very upscale cabinets, huge walk in shower and washer/dryer was incredible. I am totally challenged when it comes to colors and design so having Patty's help was awesome. The kitchen had a facelift with granit counter tops and a brick backsplash. Not your typical tile so I was thrilled with the total outcome. Beautiful wood flooring throughout the downstairs really finished it off. We move in soon and I'm sure Patty will be back for the upstairs spruce up. Can't go wrong with this team. Easy to work with, always on time and and if there's anything you might be unhappy with they make it right now questions about it. A+ local company.

These clients were a delight to work with on both projects and we look forward to our continuing relationship with these clients. The remodel on the first project really updated their current home and the second project was to prepare their beautiful lake front home for their pending retirement. We think everything turned out just beautifully and couldn't be happier that they were pleased with our performance. We can't wait to do the next with them.

They did come up with the best design for what I want done and they had a really nice show room for you to look at the design. They were very easy to work with and very responsive. I got very good vibe from talking with them that they were trustworthy and not making it up as they went along.
Description of Work: I've spoken with them a couple times over the last year and a half in regard to doing work. They haven't hired them yet to do anything, but they did come up with designs to remodel my kitchen and I really liked their designs.

IT WENT FANTASTIC! Patty, Clayton, Gail, and the entire crew are very knowledgeable, professional, pay attention to every detail with precision (my walls are very wonky and you would never know it by how perfect all cupboards, trim, and doors hang!). Patty and Gail took the time to get to know me, my style, and used my favorite art pieces and one specific focal chair to create a beautiful, comfortable, relaxing, and happy home for me. Every professional that came in, plumber, electrician, counter top crew, flooring, and the guys that did it all (thanks John, Sean, and Clayton!) Are skilled, fun to work with, and what I appreciated tremendously because I lived here during the remodel, they always cleaned up before leaving. I feel VERY blessed to have had such a gifted, professional, kind , skilled, and knowledgeable group give me the home I have dreamt about for 3 decades!
Description of Work: I had an entire remodel. Two walls removed, complete gut of kitchen, 2 bathrooms, flooring, all interior and exterior doors replaced, new trim throughout my home, all new windows, all fans and light fixtures replaced, new window treatments, refacing my gas fireplace and new mantle, built-in wall unit tore out and they discovered a uuge closet behind it, all new toilets, sinks, counter tops, fixtures and faucets, new appliances (fridge, stove, microwave, hood vent, disposal), old security system panels and a vac system removed from walls and patched, new paint from ceiling to walls in all rooms, heated bathroom flooring, and tile flooring in all bathrooms. They gutted my entire home of everything!

Thank you so much for your glowing review of us. We try very hard to exceed our clients expectations and are so pleased you feel we accomplished that . You were an absolute pleasure to work with throughout the entire project and every person in our company and every one of our subcontractors that interacted with you found you a joy to work for as well. We think your creative input , unique art work , and beautiful space turned out to be one of our favorite projects of all time. We think every element of the design turned out even better than our initial vision and we know you will enjoy living in your new space you waited so long for, and showing it off to all your family and guests. Thank you for the opportunity to help you realize your dream.

It went great. Before the actual work started, we had several more meetings to pick colors, countertops, fixtures, carpeting, etc. The painter, carpet layer, and on-site foreman were all out to the house multiple times to discuss their pieces and during this timeframe, I was kept up to date with the status of the material orders. We had planned an extended trip to another residence I own because it would have been impossible to live and work in the house while everything was being completed. On the agreed upon date, FDIR came out and installed a lock-box and we left, not to return for three weeks. We did this with some apprehension, as we had previously done this with other contractors and tradesmen, but we crossed our fingers and hoped for the best. Fortunately, we have children who live in the area and they were able to stop by the house from time to time to check on progress, so we not only knew work was being completed, but that it was looking good. I also received periodic updates from Fine Design letting me know things were going as expected and we communicated via email regarding any issues or questions that came up. We got back to Seattle as scheduled and we ended up staying with one of our children for a couple days so a few remaining items could be completed, including a change order we wrote to replace all the existing electrical outlets, switches, and faceplates. When we were notified everything was done, we entered the house and were very, very pleased. With the exception of a very complicated stair railing that had to be sanded and painted white and which was installed a couple days after we got back (due to the high standards of the painter) and a few minor paint touch-ups, everything was complete and the workmanship throughout was first class and met and in some cases, exceeded all my hopes and expectations. All the schlock work done by others over the years had been repaired or replaced and as I checked each and every item we had discussed, I found each and every one to be fixed and right. Other than the furniture, we pretty much removed everything from the inside of the house and had it stored in 40+ boxes we moved into the garage. Fine Design moved all the furniture as necessary and got things pretty much back to normal. In order to do a great job painting the bedroom closets and kitchen pantry, they completely removed the shelving in all and re-installed once the paint dried. There were a couple issues associated with the electrical outlets and switches and when we found them, Fine Design was back out to fix them promptly. One of the new bathroom light fixtures had a cracked bell and when I reported it, they let me know they had already found it and a replacement was already on order (and it did show up). All in all, Fine Design was great to work with and they really were engaged with the process and dedicated to achieving the desired result, which they did. Their craftsmen were great and their people went the extra mile to provide a first class result. The couple minor things we found were completely understandable and dealt with promptly and completely. Our design consultant and primary contact was Carla and she was very easy to deal with and completely understood our goals and worked to ensure they were identified and met. Patty backed up Carla (when Carla was on vacation) and was also very engaging, understanding, and confident throughout. The site work was led by Clayton and it was clear he had been around the block a few times and that this was not his first rodeo. He had a solid feel for what was 'right' and what was 'wrong' and made sure that the work and results completed under his supervision were 'right'. The carpeting and electrical work was fairly basic and with the exception of the couple wiring issues, all was fine. Our painting / millwork work was led by Balthazar and his work was absolutely first class and really brought everything together. All the deficient and old millwork was removed and the new was installed with great craftsmanship. The texturing, drywall repair work, wallpaper removal, and painting was all done expertly. He took our solid wood, 6 panel interior doors and refinished them and painted them to match the newly installed and painted millwork. He was very pleased with what he accomplished with the stairway railing and rightly so. The only area where I wish we could have done a bit better has to do with a couple changes / adds I wanted to get done. While the original bid came in a little lower than what I expected, by the time we went through things, clarified some expectations, and did some reconfiguring, the primary project was very close to what I was expecting / hoping. As an afterthought, I asked for some change order pricing for some other enhancements and with the exception of the electrical plug / switch / plate replacements, I didn't complete any of the add-ons. In each case, the add-on pricing seemed higher than what I was expecting and could budget. I still have a list of those items and a couple more and will get back with Fine Design at some point and see f we can get together on them. All in all, I would highly recommend Fine Design and would welcome them back into my home anytime. FYI, our project ended up running between $35K-$40K.
Description of Work: My home is 28 years old and over the years, I have had several large and small remodeling and enhancement projects completed. Some were completed on time and on budget and achieved the desired result(s). Others were much more trouble than they were worth and I had issues with scheduling, responsiveness, proposed change orders, and quality. Several projects were never finished (due to craftsmanship issues) and others were never started (because I just didn't want to deal with issues). However, I got to the point earlier this year when I decided to bite the bullet and just find and get one contractor in to not only fix some of the previous issues, but to bring the entire interior up to date. Rather than try to find individual, quality contractors, I signed up for Angie's List and spent considerable time reviewing the qualifications and listings of many contractors located in the area. I narrowed my search down to three prospects and contacted each. One called back and stated they were too busy to respond and it would be 4-6 months before they could even provide a bid . . . I congratulated them and told them I would contact them later in the year if I was still looking. The other two prospects contacted me promptly and I set up meetings with both. With the knowledge that I had previously (and successfully) completed a major remodel of the kitchen and master bath, the scope of my project included: 1. Replacing all Base, Casing, & Crown molding throughout the house; 2. Move existing recessed lighting and install a new lighted, hanging pot rack above the island in the kitchen; 3. Install new brushed nickel hardware throughout the house; 4. Remove all wallpaper and seal and texture all walls to match existing painted walls; 5. Prime & paint all walls, ceilings, trim & doors (used three colors on the walls and ceilings and used white on all trim and doors); 6. Remove and replace all carpet & pad; 7. Tear out and remodel one full bathroom; 8. Repair as necessary, sheetrock, beads, seams, water damaged ceiling, etc.; and 9. Adjust and repair all doors & cabinets and make corrective repairs throughout the house as necessary to complete a modern and first class update. After several meetings with both contractors and receiving and negotiating their bids and SOW's, I ultimately decided to award the entire project to Fine Design Interior Remodeling. They seemed to completely understand what I was hoping to accomplish and were confident they could deliver a quality result and that I would not experience the disappointments of the past. Once they were notified of the award, several additional employees came out and walked through the project to be sure everyone was on the same page. We negotiated a few minor changes and negotiated a project schedule that was mutually agreeable and I signed the contract and paid the down payment.

For so long I wanted to remodel my rambler house. Finally went ahead and so glad I did. Patty and Gail and ALL the crew from start to finish were wonderful. No remodeling "bad experience" here. Everything was coordinated and done in a timely manner. Patty helped so much with colors and materials. The results are fresh, updated, and really great looking.
Description of Work: Complete tear down in kitchen including soffits, cabinets, floor, sink, lights. Remove wall between kitchen/eating area and family room which had the water heater, washer and dryer enclosed in a big closet. Move water heater into the garage (along w/ plumbing and electricial). Build a new closet for washer and dryer in a different location. Remove a section of another wall for more space. New flooring, painting, baseboards, lighting, removal of popcorn ceilings (Yay!) in kitchen, family room, living room and hallway. A new subfloor also. I may be forgetting something, a lot was done.

We had never used a design company before and the experience was excellent. Patty listened to all of our suggestions and made some of her own when we weren’t sure of what to do. Patty Mattes was easy to work with and responsive to our preferences and concerns during the design phase of our remodel. Gail and the rest of the office staff were very good and followed up quickly on all of our questions and concerns. They are an excellent “nerve center.” Patty met with us many times to fine-tune the plan, and was able to cut costs when the first bid exceeded our budget. At first, she projected seven weeks for our remodel, but when we expressed dismay at being without a kitchen for so long, she was able to trim the process to just over five weeks. Her connections with an appliance company in Tacoma got us a discount on the appliances we wanted including our dishwasher, gas range/oven and microwave. We're very happy with the quality of the cabinets, sink, floor tiles and counter tops she helped us select. Her input helped us create the best use of our limited space, and she took her time until we had the colors and look we wanted. The crew chief for Fine Design is very knowledgeable, efficient, and fast. All of the subcontractors were excellent – all were respectful of our living space, controlled the inevitable mess, and cleaned up after themselves. Their professionalism was spectacular. We were comfortable with every person who came into our house and trusted them completely. The last person in our house was the cleaner who did a very thorough job. Our major concerns in remodeling the kitchen were getting the design right, sequencing everything properly, anticipating as many problems in advance as possible (all remodels have a surprise or two), and selecting the best people to do the job. Patty, her office staff, and her crew did all of that with excellence. Well worth the money and we will use them in the future to remodel our two bathrooms.
Description of Work: Description of Work: Complete remodel of our sixty-year-old kitchen down to the studs as well as re-piping the house and extra electrical work. We really enjoyed working with Patty and Gail at Fine Designs. They had terrific ideas for our small redo of our downstairs, I was really impressed with all of the suggestions they had for us for our tile backsplash, counter, and carpet - we pretty much went with all the ideas they had presented to us, they just have great taste! All of the companies that they use were also great. Everyone was professional and respectful of our house. We happened to be out of town while a lot of the work was done, and we had no problems feeling comfortable having everyone in our house while we were gone. Everything went smoothly, we are so in love with our new downstairs. Much thanks to Patty and Gail! We would absolutely call them again for any work we need done to our house.

The work started on time and the project was completed before the projected end date. Working with Patty and Carla was a delight. They listened to everything I had to say and made suggestions if I was not quite sure what I was looking for. All of the subcontractors who worked in my home were respectful, personable, and efficient. My floors, extending from the bathroom to the exits, were covered to protect them as work was being done. The dust from this undertaking was minimal, as all the professionals did a wonderful job cleaning up after their work was completed. Since I only have one bathroom, the space was kept clear so that we could continue to use the toilet when the workers were not here. This was my first time working with a design/remodeling company. I found Fine Design Interior Remodeling on Angie's List. I have been pleased through out the whole process. I continue to be impressed with the professionalism of Patty, Carla, Gail, and Margo. When I made calls, they were returned in an extremely timely manner. It was also nice to have Patty and Carla stop by during the process to see how things were going. The young woman, J., who came to clean the bathroom after all the work was complete, was very thorough. She even gave me some tips when cleaning my new bathroom. I recommend this company! I would hire them without hesitation in the future.

Fine Design did a great job--we wish we'd done this project years ago! The new bathroom is beautiful and functional, and they got the job done on time and on budget. We're really pleased with everything and are looking forward to working with Fine Design again in the future. Carla was really helpful in working with us on designing the project and thinking through our needs and our budget. We had originally planned a slightly different design that would have been more expensive, and Carla wrote a bid for that but helped us think through an alternative plan that we like better and that wasn't as expensive. We got several other bids, but no one else was as helpful in listening to our needs and thinking of solutions. Everyone who worked on the job was friendly and helpful, and they did a good job of protecting the finished parts of our basement and keeping disruption to a minimum. In all, everything went really well.

The individual who met with us was prompt and very nice. We discussed the job and what we wanted to have done. Before leaving we were given a quote of $80K before the calculation of materials and labor. Unfortunately, the bid was seriously out of line with market value for similar services. Prior to making the presentation, the estimator called us to provide measurements. This should have been done by them during the first visit. The individual who made the presentation was very professional and amiable. When making the presentation a few weeks later we anticipated receiving a computerized model of proposed changes. Instead of a professional presentation, we were shown poorly drafted hand drawings and samples of modestly priced products were provided. A color pallet was selected for us despite the fact we were never asked or given the option of color choices. This company thought that they could charge for the estimate. Instead, they had to be informed about the legal requirements and were requested to return the deposit within 24 hours. The professional who made the estimate and presentation thought that they should be compensated for their time and effort in making a very poorly put together presentation. In the end, we went with another company who almost gutted and redesigned the entire house for just under $70,000. This included gutting two bathrooms, moving walls, replacing subflooring in the bathrooms/kitchen/dining room, replacing a joist under the house, plumbing both bathrooms and the kitchen, replacing the roof and all interior doors, installing a new kitchen, walk-in tub, restoring the oak floors and adding oak shorts to the dining room and kitchen to provide continuity between living room and kitchen. This also included replacing carpeting, moving furnishings to the garage, and many more things. In contrast, Fine Design wanted $80k to move a bathroom, install a walk-in tub, replace all interior doors, and paint all interior walls. For this reason, I found this company to be overpriced.

$80,000

Response from Fine Design Interior Remodeling
As part of our complimentary job site visit and setting realistic project cost expectations for the customer, I suggested that based on their final choices made, and confirmed costs from the subcontractors, their extensive remodel could conceivably cost up to $80,000.00. The hand drawn floor plan presented was a preliminary draft of just one option. The customer was shown professional computerized drawings of the designed cabinet layouts. Fine design offers a complimentary job site consultation which includes a follow up meeting to present the initial estimate along with selections of high quality but reasonably priced products selected. If at that time the customer would like to continue with Fine Design and have us go forward and work with them to fine tune their selections and schedule the sub contractors to go the site to confirm the numbers, we ask for a $500.00 non refundable retainer which is applied to the project purchase. The customer chose to move forward with Fine Design and provided us with the retainer which was returned to them. Fine Design prides ourselves on our customer satisfaction and will always provide excellent service.

The scheduled time frame that was explained to us as to when the work was to be done went smoothly. The workers were very courteous and respectful of our home for example: covering the stairs and floor where the work was to be done . The tear out went very smooth and leaving no mess behind. The Granite, backsplashes, and Pluming were done with experienced workers and the detail of workmanship was outstanding. The design and the colors blended in perfectly with our home interior. This is the second time that we have used Fine Design and Remodeling and are Extremely Happy with our experience.
Description of Work: Kitchen Granite Counter readjusting plant window for the new counter, Backsplash, Sink, Fawcett, Stove Vent, repair floor and counter to change stove from drop-in to slide-in. Bathroom counter, Mirror Frame, and Backsplash in both Bathrooms.

Fine Design Interiors was very responsive. They designed shower that could fit with existing master bathroom. They arranged for all phases of the remodel from design, tear down, to completed project. There was continual contact to let me know who was coming and when. The Designer often accompanied the sub contractors to introduce me. I love my new bathroom and highly recommend them!

Everything went smoothly. It was a large project, and their team handled it professionally and on time and budget. The design really opened up our kitchen and modernized it and made it more livable, improving the flow of the house. At each step in the process, we were consulted, and our preferences were implemented. The finishes are well done, and everything that was installed, updated or refinished was done in a quality manner. We highly recommend Fine Design Interior Remodeling to anyone who wants to remodel their home!
Description of Work: Fine Design Interior Remodeling did a complete redesign and remodel of our kitchen, including cabinets, new counter tops and appliances, sink, hardware, under counter lighting, flooring, gas lines for the stove and a vent hood. They also remodeled our laundry room, adding a half bath to it and stacking the washer/dryer. New plumbing and electrical was installed throughout the house, as well as new insulation in the walls and floor. The hardwood floors throughout the house were refinished, and the interior was painted. A new heat pump, furnace and hot water heater were also installed, as was a new electrical panel.

We were really skeptical about the disruption we would experience since this is a small home and only has a bath and a 1/2 bath. Staying in the home and being without a shower could be a problem. But after meeting with Carla and going over everything, she explained the process, time line, she put our concerns to rest. She would try and get the shower for us to use in 10 days if all went well. We went over the materials, colors, various products and she made some good suggestions we hadn't thought of. The whole project would take about 3 weeks. We agreed and they started on April 6, and finished on April 30th. We had our shower back to use in exactly10 days. WooHa! The bathroom is absolutely beautiful. We couldn't ask for a better job. Fine design kept us informed of the contractors schedules and what to expect. All of the contractors were polite friendly and there on time. They asked us our thoughts and opinions and most of all, they wanted us to be happy Fine Design has a real grip on customer service and quality. We chose Fine Design based on all the favorable recommendations in Angie's List We would recommend them to everyone. I failed to mention that we had two other estimates that cost less. But they were actually just cosmetic cover-ups or repairs. This job is a new home installation.
Description of Work: Remodel of the main bathroom 70s 1-1/2 bath home. Remove the bathtub and shower combo and tile surround, countertop, flooring. Install a walk-in shower with tile surround, new quarts countertop and undermount sink, backsplash and new flooring. Removing all down to the studs and subfloor. Finish all the drywall, texture and paint the whole bathroom. Install matching tile floor trim and new plumbing and fixtures.

Patty, Gail and the crew did a fantastic job! This was a fairly large project that took three months and it went pretty smoothly. Any issues (minor) were dealt with quickly. Everyone was punctual, professional and accommodating. The various trades - tilesetter, plumber, painters, etc - did quality work. Fine design kept to the initial budget and finished the project slightly ahead of schedule. It's been five months since completion and no issues have cropped up. We love our 'new' house!
Description of Work: Fine Design gutted and remodeled the kitchen, master bath, guest bath, and powder room of our 20 year old home. They installed a new exterior door and replaced a slider. They refinished hardwood flooring, installed new carpeting, vinyl and tile flooring throughout the house. Removed wallpaper and repainted entire interior. Installed new kitchen appliances.

Everything went better than I expected. Since I kindof knew what I wanted but had no idea what I was doing, Patty walked me through the process. She gave me ideas on color, textures and what was trending, but also advice on improvements if I wanted to sell. Of course budget and quality was important. If something I liked was out of my range, she offered alternatives that looked and worked just as well and sometimes better. Also, she itemized the estimate so I knew exactly what the costs were. If I added or took away items that was also noted, so I knew where I stood at all times as far as the budget went. And the guys were great. They were friendly, respectful of me, my house and my cats! They were good workers, professional, did good quality work, cleaned up after themselves, and then hauled all the trash away. There were a couple set backs due to back orders and more product being ordered, but all in all the project was finished in a timely manner. I was a little hesitant at first, but as time went on I looked forward to the transformation. I am still marveling at how beautiful my house looks. It's really fun! I had a great "remodel expeience" and highly recommend Fine Design Interior Remodeling.

We were about as inexperienced as you could get when it came to remodeling a house or even knowing what all of our options were. After our first meeting at the house with Carla, we knew instantly that we wanted to work with Fine Design. Carla, along with Patty and their whole team, was so good at educating us, showing us options, giving us suggestions & just guiding us through the whole process. They were exactly on time & on budget and kept us informed on the progress every step of the way. The whole experience from our first meeting until the day work was done was as good as we could have ever hoped...AND we absolutely love our house. It's been a few months and it's still hard to believe it's the same house. We will definitely be using Fine Design for any future projects we might have and will gladly refer them to anyone we know. Thanks Carla & Patty!
Description of Work: Complete remodel of the inside of the house. New cabinets, countertops & appliances in the kitchen. New vanities and fixtures in the bathrooms including a tile shower in the master bath. Flooring, trim, lighting & paint throughout the house. And several other smaller things

Patty explained, in the beginning of the process, that her goal was to make me happy by creating two beautiful bathrooms. She far exceeded that objective. (Fine Design is the third contractor that we have had do work for us; the other two were worthless. Patty renewed our faith in people, that there are honest, ethical contractors in this world.) First, she and her crew were always on time, usually early, a trait I value immensely. I always informed when they would be working, with either an emailed agenda or a phone call. Patty has a wonderful, professional crew with strong work ethics themselves. They worked hard, yet were friendly and helpful; a real joy to have in our home. Since I was around most days, they were very patient with my many questions, constant presence and eagle eye. They were very good about correcting any little issue that bugged me. That is another thing that makes Patty such an excellent designer, her calm demeanor and her assurance that everything will "be fine"; she was always right!! Both bathrooms are truly beautiful and functional with tons of storage space. I could not be happier with the results. Patty and her crew will be remodeling my 70's kitchen once I have the money. I highly recommend Fine Design for your remodeling projects. Patty and her crew get an A+.
Description of Work: Patty and her crew gutted and totally remodeled both of our 70's bathrooms. They added a new, smaller window and built-in shelves to my sewing room; which also included new siding, insulation, sheet rock, texture, paint, trim and carpet. They installed four new exterior doors and for the first time in thirty-eight years, our laundry room, exercise room and garage have inside trim around the exterior doors. They also provided expert consultation on a few projects around the house that we were planning on doing ourselves.

The final product was stunning. There were many bumps in the road that caused the project to take longer than necessary. 1. The initial rough in on the bathtub was incorrect. There were very specific instructions included with the fixtures which were not reviewed by the plumber nor caught by the project manager. I caught this in my nightly review. This caused approximately 1 week delay. 2. The flange for the tub drain was not long enough to connect to the drain pipe. This was not the contractors fault. They had to have a part custom milled at no cost to me, but this did cause a delay in completing the project. 3. Project manager ordered the wrong counter tops. This also caused a delay in the completion the of project as now counters had to be manufactured. 4. After we made final payment, the sink faucet started to leak. This was a product defect. They ordered a new faucet and replaced it at no cost. 5. The tile setter did a great job. He worked slowly, but his work was impeccable. I was very happy with the design. The coordination of the colors and materials was great. We have a beautiful, luxurious bathroom. We did not make any changes to the design or materials during the project. I think the project manager learned something about managing on this project. I would use this company again.
