We used Steve's plumbing a few years ago and we were happy with their work. We called them again a few weeks ago to get an estimate to replace most of the pipes in our house. The scheduling went well, and they came very soon after we called them but we were very unhappy with the price. They quoted us 8100 dollars plus tax. After that we contacted other 4 companies and they were all in the 3000 to 4500 range. This company is way too overpriced.

My experience over the last 3 years with Richard from Steve's Plumbing is that he's honest, professional, and can be trusted to tell you the truth about a home's plumbing issues. Over this time, I've had them do the following work to prevent further problems: replaced all toilets with Eco Flush (got water company rebates and federal tax credit); replaced all water valves under every sink, toilet, and the washer; and the line connections with metal mesh hoses; replaced both outdoor water valves with frost-free hose bibs; replaced garbage disposal; replaced hot water heater with a Comfort Series Circulating Pump, i.e., tankless water heater (got energy rebates and federal tax credit). The prices may seem high, but having a knowledgeable licensed journeyman plumber from a company that absolutely stands behind their work is worth the peace of mind to me. Thank you, Richard, and Steve's Plumbing! .
Description of Work: On 7/25/13, the 28 year old water valves for my washing machine noticeably failed, resulting in water dripping into the crawl space. Richard from Steve's Plumbing came to replace the water valves and the metal mesh hoses for the washer. He had warned me two years ago that these 28 year old original valves from 1985 should be replaced soon. Richard then inspected the crawl space and found that the straps holding the horizontal copper pipes were starting to cause corrosion with the pipes. He said they would ultimately need to be replaced to prevent all the pipes from becoming corroded, but it wasn't emergent. Having had enough water damage in my home prior to hiring Steve's Plumbing 3 years ago, I asked him to go ahead with the work after a family visit. He re-piped the horizontal copper runs in the crawl space, and replaced the 28 year old main shut off valve and the old pressure reducing valve. Cost for the crawl space pipes, main shut off valve and pressure reducing valve was $5938.18 (including tax).

The plumber, Will, came out on time, dug a 2' trench to locate the break, and gave me a few options. The options were ridiculously high and not what I asked for. I only wanted the broken section repaired, and he finally agreed to do that. I was under the impression that the total charge would be around $1600. This seemed high, but he was there, had already done part of the work, and I needed to get it fixed. For this first day's work the charge was $537, including a charge to come out and tax. He came back the next morning, repaired the line, and billed me $2200 for both days work, about 4 1/2-5 hours of time. This was mostly labor, as the 6' of 3/4and quot; copper and a few fittings probably wouldn't total $30. I told him that over $500/hr was outrageous , and after some argument he dropped the first days digging charge and ended up billing me $1795. Deducting tax and estimated parts they would have initially charged about $395/hour, then dropped that to about $305/hr when I protested. What they tried to charge (from memory)- $537 for the exploratory trench (about 1.5 hours), $1200 to dig about 6' of trench for the repair (about 2 hours), and about $500 to install 6' of 3/4and quot; copper line (30 minutes). This is extemely high and out of line. One of the other plumbers we called quoted us $110/hr for digging, so their price would likely have been about $600 - $800 total, depending on what the line repair would have been. I should have gotten in line and waited a couple of days. I'm not faulting the work of the plumber- he was on time, polite, and got the repair done, but their prices are sky high. They also work pretty hard to upsell their services which is annoying. Do your research.
Description of Work: We had a broken water line near the meter with a significant leak. I had found where the broken area was within a few feet, and cleared brush and tree limbs. This was in a very difficult to dig area with a lot of tree roots, so I decided to call in a pro. I thought at the time that this was the main water line to the house and needed to get an immediate fix so we only contacted 3 services and the other 2 were unable to come until later in the week. Steve's said they could get someone there the next day. I wish we had done more research. Read the Yelp filtered reviews for more.

I have used Steve's before and was so pleased with them overall so I only called them when our kids bathtub needed unclogging and our powder room toilet was leaking at the base. Tech was prompt and courteous. But, as soon as he started looking at tub, toilet, sinks, etc... he started telling me how awful, old and in desperate need of replacing EVERYTHING was. The hard sell started immediately. He spent about an hour writing up estimates on everything. My eyes popped at the prices! Then he told me that if I joined the Diamond club I could get discounts on the overall cost. It is a year long commitment! (another hard sell) He convinced me that I am spending the same amount of money if I didn't join and I come away with nothing extra. Thinking that I have already spent about an hour and a half on this guy, that my time was worth something as well. I didn't want to go thru another plumber and hard sell so I said to go ahead and fix just what was required to unclog, stop leak and bring up to code. He was finished in about 2 hours. My husband went over the bill and wondered how a few small parts could cost SOOOOOOOOO much! Now, I am stuck with a $14.00 a month charge for a year for them to come out and try to sell me more overpriced items. Talk about buyers remorse! AND I don't really know if what he did will fix all of the problems.
Description of Work: Unclogged kids bathtub. (snaked drain) fixed leaky toilet. replaced/rebuild worn-out inner items. brought Hot Water Heater up to "code" by elevating it, adding expansion tank and new connecting pipes/wires and the like.

I'm really sorry you feel this way Customer. I pulled your invoice to see what we did at your home and found you authorized several repairs. The licensed plumber we sent to your home was able to restore flow to your clogged tub. He pulled and re-set your toilet so it was no longer leaking and guaranteed that it won't leak from the base again. He rebuilt a toilet and replace the shut off so it's safe against water damage and is easy to shut off in an emergency. He upgraded the drain valve on your water heater and brought the installation up to code. This is important not only for the safety of your home and plumbing system, but it prolongs the life of your water heater itself and will save you money in the future. Your Lifetime Diamond Club gives you a 15% discount on all repairs, we never charge a service call for our Lifetime Diamond Club customers which saves you an additional $59 every time we come out. You get a full inspection of your plumbing system once a year at no cost. If you ever have a plumbing emergency, we will put you at the front of the schedule. My 70 year old mother called Steve's because her drain backed up into the bath tub and shower. They sent a plumber named on Adam. He looked at the stuff in the tub and shower and told her that based on the and quot;organic materialand quot;, it was a collapsed line or tree root obstruction. He informed her that they would need to install a new exterior clean out and that she was looking at between $12,000 plus to get to the problem. Upon her tearing up and explaining that she didn't have that much money, Adam called Steve, the owner, and then informed my mother that they could cut her a deal for $7800. She told him that if that was what was needed, to go ahead and get started. He immediately called it in and had a crew on the way. That's when I showed up and started to ask some additional questions. It tuned out that Adam did not even look for existing clean outs or try to unplug the clog in any way. I told him that we would take his bid into consideration, but were going to get a second opinion first. They charged her $70 to come out and give her a bid and do nothing. I had Rapid Rooter come out and look into the problem. It tuns out the house had 4 available clean outs already. Rapid Rooter unplugged the paper and sludge stoppage for $346.

We spoke at length about this on the phone after Adam left your mother's home. You left out a lot of pertinent information in your review. Your mother does have an extensive problem that will need to be addressed at some point. Adam spoke with another family member who did approve the work he was proposing, so your mother was not alone in making this decision. The difference in price between what you said Adam originally proposed and the "deal" you said Steve agreed to is missing critical information. We don't operate that way and that is not what happened. He may have guessed it could be as much as $12,000 but when they talked to the crew who would do the sewer line replacement, they were able to get a more solid bid and thus lowered the price to what your mother was quoted, in writing. In addition, I did not deposit your mother's check. This cost her nothing. So the price of $70 you stated that she paid is not accurate. I'm glad she was able to get her line cleared temporarily. However, rooter services are not required to send licensed plumbers and typically do not hire plumbers to clean drains since they are more expensive to employ. Steve's Plumbing only sends licensed journeyman plumbers and guarantee all our work is done properly and to code. We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee on all our work. The two plumbers that did the work on bothh occasions were excellent and did a great job. My issue is the price of a better drain valve on the water heater and the price of the disposal was obscene.
Description of Work: I had remodeled my kitchen with granite countertops and a new sink. I needed the new sink replumbed and wanted it done professionally and not just the screw together fittings than you can buy at the store and do yourself. I decided I should replace my inoperative garbage disposal even though I likely would use it very little. Also, I had my water heater replaced the previous month.

We are sorry you feel like our prices were high on those items. The garbage disposal is very high quality and comes with a great warranty. The upgraded ball valve shut off and drain down valve are important to have on your water heater. Not only do they allow you the convenience of hooking a hose directly to your water heater if you every need to use hot water outside, but they also allow for draining maintenance on your water heater that adds significant life to the water heater itself. He said he would try and come out late on a Saturday and then called to apologize for not coming. He however turned up that Sunday morning and gave me a discount of 50 $ as well as a 20 $ rebate. I was really pleased with him and the other thing about him is that he does not charge extra for coming out on the weekends. He could not find the shut off for the water so he should me how to turn it off with the meter which was really excellent. I would use him again in the future.

Upon first calling Steve's Plumbing, the scheduler was friendly and easy to work with. The plumber arrived basically on time and was very friendly and easy to communicate with. He explained where the leak was coming from and how he planned to fix it, then did so. He then discussed several other aspects of our plumbing system and made numerous suggestions for improvement. We opted to stick with just fixing the leak and he did not push any additional work on us. I realize the plumber was trying to up-sell, which can be tiring, but he did it in an informative, conversational way that we appreciated. We were somewhat taken back by the price of the work he did do, as it seemed pretty high. Overall, it was a good experience and we would refer this company to friends/family.

Our kitchen drain was not running at all, so we called Steve's. He sent 2 obnoxious guys out to perform the work. Of course, first they were all about everything else we should do versus just what they came to do. Then they did the work. 20 minutes later and $450+ later for a simple snaking of our kitchen line - and they were gone. I even called Steve during the operation to tell him never to send these 2 guys again and I questioned the charge. He said that is their charge. In retrospect and after speaking with co-workers, just go buy yourself a snake for about $50 and do the work yourself. My husband recently did just this for a slow running drain in a bathtub. He went on-line and found some U-Tube videos and 20 minutes later - and zero cost - we had a smoothly running drain. The guy is literally highway robbery. I don't think even lawyers make THAT much money! Avoid.

Good, reliable company. (See above comment)
Description of Work: Unclogged 2 drains. I also purchased drain cleaner which was quite expensive (over $200), which I am not sure is worth the price. They were very courteous and efficient. I have used this company before. I had a water back up next to the washer and had Mr. Rooter 3 times (over $1000) and the problem kept reoccurring. Called Steve's and they fixed it and have had no more water problems (for several years). They know what they are doing!

They were excellent. They told me all my options in many different price ranges, and made me aware of a substantial tax credit for the heater we did get that saved us a lot of money. When it came time to install, Dan and Jared were right on time. They did a great job with the install, and when they left, the house (and the path from the front door to the laundry area) looked like they were never there. Dan showed me the details of how it operates and then answered a bunch of questions I had (I imagine some of them seemed stupid since I know nothing about water heaters). They were courteous and respectful. Considering they had to remove an old heater, run gas line, and install a whole different type of heater system, I can't believe they got it all done in under seven hours. And all this a few days before Christmas. I highly recommend Steve's Plumbing.

The technicians quoted a laundry list of estimates ranging from $199 to $775 to unclog and/or replace the toilet. After telling my wife the toilet (Kohler) was substandard, they told her that it needed to be replaced. Upset with the upsell and pressure, my wife had them call me at work where i got the same story. I declined the minimum service they suggested and unclogged the toilet with a plunger in about 2 minutes when i got home from work. I had used Steve's in the past to install a faucet system for my kitchen sink and found the upsell pressure very irritating but the quality of work was good. This experience was very disappointing and alarming to me.

As our technicians pointed out on your invoice, your toilet was not only clogged, but in need of repair. The cost of those repairs was listed, along with an option to replace the toilet, for you to make an informed decision. Is it really "upsell pressure" to recommend an option that will completely solve the customer's problem? Had you chosen the repairs, your toilet would have been made mechanically sound, but would have remained prone to future clogs. Had you chosen the new toilet, it would have never clogged again under normal use. You would have qualified for a substantial rebate, narrowing the difference between the cost of repair and replacement. Your water usage would have dropped, helping to conserve a precious resource while reducing your water bill. While "plunging" your toilet may provide a temporary solution, ultimately you will still have to repair or replace the fixture. I stand by my recommendations...

The work was finished and looks/works great! We have used many contractors in our short time here in Seattle and have always had problems with them; but Steve's Plumbing went beyond our expectations in service and attitude!
Description of Work: We had a leaky faucet due to an previous inept plumber and a shower that would not turn on. A service guy, Dan, came out and assessed our problems. Usually they carry everything on their well-stocked truck, but our faucet was discontinued and we had to order the part. Dan was very professional and a really nice guy. Once we got the new part in, he was back the day I called!

Overall the company reps were very professional, clean, promt and knowledgable. Other than the mix-up on some pricing, which they took care of, I would definitely recomend this company!!
Description of Work: I had a hall sink drain that had been clogged apparently for years and no snake or auger had ever been able to clean it out. I hired Steve's plumbing and they ended up having to cut out sheet rock and remove the section of pip that had been clogged. They charged me a $60 service call charge and $360 access charge to cut out the sheet rock. They then charged me another $430 to cut out the clogged drain pipe piece, run a camera down the pipe to see what was causing the clog and then to repair the drain. Once they cut open the pipe they were easily able to remove the obstruction manually. They then asked if I'd like the "pop-up assemly" replaced, which allows you to close and open the drain from the sink. Knowing this piece cost about $25-$30 at ACE Hardware, I jokingly asked if they were going to charge me $79.99 for this piece considering all the other charges were so steep. One representative said "No no it's about 267". I later learned it was two HUNDRED and sixty seven dollars. When the work was done the gentlmen who did the work charged me full price for the "pop-up assembly" despite the clear confusion on price. Later that day, after speaking with Steve, the workers got back to me with an apology for the missunderstanding as well as a check for the cost of the "pop-up assembly" with installation.

Professional and prompt, but I called Steve's several times, received very high estimates and only once actually had something fixed. Two of three visits only yielded the comment that he couldn't fix the problem, but I still had to pay for the hourly rate, which I thought was high given that nothing was actually fixed. I entered into an expensive service agreement and never used the service, so I blame myself for shelling out money for absolutely nothing.

It was Friday, our bathtub drain had failed, and no amount of plunging, snaking, or drain opener had worked . We were expecting out of town guests with our single shower out of operation. We were panicked, and didn't have the time or luxury to get and compare estimates. We had used Steve’s Plumbing for a minor issue in the past. We called them because they had been prompt, friendly, and not too expensive for a plumber. In this instance, the plumber and his helper removed an old 1920's drain drum trap, replaced it with a modern P-trap, installed a modern simple trip lever and overflow for the drain, and rerouted the plastic drain pipe into the cast iron hub in the basement. The hook up to the cast iron hub was in a very accessible space in a large lighted storage closet in the basement. They were here for 6 hours. This, with tax, cost us approx $500 per hour. ($169 was for opening access holes in the ceiling before we found the hidden walk-in access to the back of the shower and drain, so this was our fault.) The access closet to the drain and plumbing was very user friendly. The installation of the new drain pipe to the cast iron hub was a straight and unimpeded drop down to the basement through a dedicated wall space. As said, the materials included a new P-trap, a new drain trip lever and overflow, and some plastic pipe. After the addition of the new P-trap, drain lever and overflow, the charge was already up to over $1500. They then asked if we wanted to stop there, or while they were still updating the drain, for an additional $1700, reconfigure the shower drain line to improve drain flow and possibly prevent future problems. Because it was an old house, and because we had only one shower, we decided to go with this. We imagined it would take several more hours to do it. It took max 2 hours plus some plastic pipe. Six hours a minor materials cost, and a $3279 bill. I don't know if the extra improvement that they suggested was in fact necessary. We agreed to it because we were worried by the implication of possible further problems, and by the fact that we had no shower to fall back on in the event of future problems. They did in fact fix the drain. When I asked the lead plumber how they could charge $500 per hour, he said that he had nineteen years of experience, plus the experience of his helper.

On Tuesday 10/13, we realized our water main valve was leaking and needed to be replaced. Our regular plumber recommended Steve's Plumbing LLC, as did Angie's List, so we called and he had a 2-man crew out the next day. They excavated the area, removed the old valve, installed the new valve, and filled in the holes in the side yard. They were very polite and easy to communicate with.
Description of Work: They removed and replaced our water main valve.

Came to clean out a stopped drain in the kitchen. Was prompt, neat and professional
Description of Work: Came to clean out a stopped drain in the kitchen. Was prompt, neat and professional, clean up after was done - left no trace - but the price seemed a little high. All and all - good service - at a price. We are not sure of the value of the "Diamond" club offering - and the 5.00 fuel service charge seems unreasonable in light of falling fuel costs

First of all, the experience of making and scheduling an appointment was great. The person who we spoke with knew right away that they would be able to take care of our problem. I also felt she was up front about the fees and explaining how they charged. Many of the services I called charged high rates the minute the clock started, and Steve's plumbing charged a $65 rate to estimate the work which I felt more comfortable with. Furthermore they scheduled us right away and the Plumber was prompt. Don verified that the hot water recirculator was not operational after connecting it and explained to my wife the cost to repair or replace the unit. This is where things went south. Don explained that the minimum charge for any plumbing services was $200 regardless of what work was involved. Since in our case the work was just hooking up power, I felt slighted that this was not mentioned to me on the phone. This brings the price of Steve's in line with everyone else that quoted me rates by the first 15 min and then every 15 thereafter. Don gave my wife an estimate for $1299 to install a new recirculator and we decided not to do that. Don then left. When I arrived at home in the evening I found that the air conditioning was not working. When I went to investigate I saw that Don has used the outlet where the AC condensation pump was connected which caused our air conditioning to shut off at around 10 am when it filled with water. As such, on the hottest day in Seattle history our house is now 88 degrees and there is no chance it will cool down by evening. I find this completely unacceptable. Whatever Don unplugged on his visit he should have known better to plug back in before leaving. Also as my wife explained to me, he quoted 300 - 400 dollars to have a new unit installed, but the quote on the estimate form we have is $1299. I don't understand why there is a discrepancy.
Description of Work: Called Steve's Plumbing to come out and evaulate why the hot water recirculator in the house we are renting is not working.

Project(s) have been completed: replacement of kitchen pipes to fix a leak; bathroom trap leaking and replaced.
Description of Work: This is second time we've used this company. They are very professional and courteous, but also very expensive. Part of their process is a "price list" that is set for services. On first call they try to upsell you to their Diamond Club, which gives you 15% off other services in a year. Unfortunately, we did have a clogged drain that I called to ask what the "discounted" service fee would be..it was $300. I just couldn't bring myself to pay that for an obvious kitchen clog. I called another plumber that was in my home for 10 minutes, unclogged the drain and charged me $50. While I will use these guys again...I'd just point out that they are a marketing machine. They are good, do solid work, but are expensive. If you can afford them - definitely, call them.
