Mad Hatter Masonry & Chimney Sweep-Seattle WA

Mad Hatter took care of the chimney over the course of a few very wet and partially frozen weeks in December 2009. They worked outdoors when the weather let up but had to leave the chimney covered with a tarp most of that time. They didn't need to access the interior of the house until the chimney was crowned, capped, sealed, washed, and tuckpointed. I only needed to be home during the sweeping operation, which involved removal of two whole industrial wet/dry vac-loads of old soot, moss, and ash. Throughout the entire operation, Mad Hatter's staff were punctual, helpful, courteous, and flexible.

Excellent service. Prompt, courteous, and answered our questions. We will use this service again.

Promptly returned phone calls. Price matched all the other quotes out there but they gave me an angie's list discount. Guy came in with a shop vac and plastic. I left the room for a few minutes and when i came back- aprrox 15 min- he was done with the inside. I really wished i would have stayed to see what he did. Really hoping i didn't pay $100 to have my chimney shop vac'ed alone. I have a shop vac in the garage.. He did alert me that we don't have a chimney cap but the price to put one on seemed way to much considering the price of them at H.Depot. He was very nice, professional and educated me on chimneys all around. I would use them again but watch next time :).

They did not bill me for quite awhile. I had to call them. The job was at a rental property and they told the renter they thought it needed some work, but they did not tell me. I had to call them regarding this. I had to keep after them regarding the service and bill. They did show up when they said they would but did not give me the information I needed. Perhaps they did not understand the renter was not the owner. And they were also really late on the billing. They were good with the renters. I would not use them for the things they recommended because of what happened.

We were happy with them. The price and quality were fine. We would definitely use them in the future.

No concerns or issues. Very timely and professional. Will be happy to use them for any future needs !

Eric arrived on time and was very professional and courteous. He put down cloths to protect the floor and cleaned the chimney quickly. He checked it from the top down and told us why the chimney smoked so badly (poorly designed chimney cap) which he removed. Only one caveat, and it was about the office, not the work - don't leave a message. Call back until you can talk to a person, because they either don't return messages or have a problem with their phone system. Other than that, they were great!

The company never showed up. They were to call half an hour before arriving at my rental house so I could meet them there. I never heard anything from them and did not receive a response to either of the voicemail messages I left them (at each of their phone numbers.) Luckily this was not a work day for me, but I did rearrange my entire schedule so that I was available in their window. This is very unprofessional and I would not hire them again. Most of their past reviews were positive, but the two most recent ones are negative, so perhaps something is going on now that wasn't before. Definitely don't recommend them. I understand that mistakes happen, but they should have called afterwards and taken responsibility or at least told me what happened.

We were happy with the work that Mad Hatter did. I have no complaints.

The team who did the initial estimate were knowledeable and professional. The office booked me in November and then called back and moved the work up to an earlier date, which I appreciated, but the work team didn't show up on the rescheduled day - disappointing because I had to take off a half day from work. I'm wondering if they are just slammed at this time of the year, because it was hard to get through -- left several messages. I believe the quality of the work is good and the work teams seem knowledgable and helpful, but return calls, etc. needs a boost. I feel bad about giving a low grade on the "responsiveness" category, because they did schedule an earlier date for me, but the no-show one day and the difficuly in getting return calls could be a source of anxiety.

Not well. Apparently they are not interested in my business.

darryl actually arrived earlier than expected, put a tarp down toprotect my carpet and went right to work. he was very friendly, professional, efficient and quickly completed the job and cleaned up after he was done..

I talked to Stephanie to schedule the appointment and she quoted me the price. She called the day before to verify the appt. Eric arrived promptly the day of the appt. He got right to work and was done in approximately 30 to 40 minutes. He placed a drop cloth in front of the stove to catch any loose dust and cleaned up the area when he was finished. He was a very polite and efficient young man. This is minor but if it is beneficial to the business all the better. I didn't expect the glass windows to be cleaned on the stove but Eric did so. Looking at them after he left I noticed he didn't clean them thoroughly. If your going to perform a service, do it thoroughly.

They came out a did a chimney sweep and fireplace inspection. We knew about the firebox liner crack, but it was nice they gave us two options- a patch that would last for about 3yrs or 15 fires, or the replacement at $1,100. The came out the next week and did the patch. Great service.

They were quick and clean. Their price was very reasonable as well. I had some questions in regards to a blower for the fireplace to direct the heat out and they were able to direct me to a more fitting solution and also provided some quotes. They were also very pleasant to be around. I am actually hiring them again to install a reflector in the future. I would recommend them to others!

He was great and it was a good price. His price was a lot cheaper than everybody else.

I used them and I was happy with them. The guy was up front, explained everything, wasn't pushy, and did a good job. He didn't try to insist I needed anything else done. He did what he recommended and didn't try to force anything on me.

Work was completed quickly and done well.

I never received a call back. When I spoke to them the final time they asked about calling back tomorrow and I stated I was not interested. She was polite and apologetic for not calling me back.

I had Eric to come out and service our house, I have a insert that does not have a liner and of course the liners are quite expensive. He did let me know that I did not need a sweep at this time but he did put a cap on the chimney and record time. He also suggested that I have a sealent since I have an outside fire wall and he even explained what is the best way to start a fire so I will have limited smoke build up in the insert to help destribute the heat more effectively. The cap he was able to do to day since it was suppose to be a simple inspection. The Sealent will have to been done next weekend because it will take 2-3 hrs for everything to be clean and applied. Overall I had a great experience, will definetly recommend for the next person.

They gave me a good quote. They worked efficiently. They had a problem because they had a nail or piece of glass from their previous customer that broke their vacuum bag and I had chimney soot all over my room. They didn't realize there was a hole in the bag until it got quite dusty. Their price was good. They arrived exactly when they said they would. I would use them again.

We called to get our chimney inspected and Jay came out and did a very thorough inspection. He told me that there was nothing wrong with our chimney, but gave recomendations for future care, and told me how to do them myself. He then told me he didn't feel right charging me when he didn't have to repair or clean anything, and he gave me some free t-shirts with the company name on it. I would definitly use their services in the future.

The experience with them turned out fine. That resulted in us getting the gas fireplace inserted. If I still had a wood burning fireplace I would have used them again. They were very pleasant. I no longer need their services with the insert.

They did a really good job. We were very impressed. He went on top of the roof. He went in and did the work, and it was a relief to have him do the work after our last unsatisfactory chimney sweep. He was knowledgeable and did not try to sell us additional services. The rates were quite reasonable, and we will absolutely use him again.

We were thrilled with the services that Mad Hatter performed. We were able to get a bid over the phone and scheduled a date for only two weeks out on a Saturday when we would be home. They actually came early and did phone ahead of time to make sure that would be okay. He explained in detail the job to be performed and what he would be doing. He laid down canvas tarps and placed vacuum systems to catch any soot that was loosened so it wouldn't go in the air. He was honest about that one of the fireplaces seemed very clean and he felt didn't need to be cleaned, but offered to perform the service if we still wanted it . We appreciated it not being done if not needed, and saving that cost. He informed us of a chimney cap missing and flashing needed which we were aware of. He did inform us that Mad Hatter could schedule out to perform these services for a later date and extra cost, but if we wanted, those items could be done ourselves to save money. My husband chose to do the job himself. The job was thorough and he cleaned up after himself. Very polite, professional service and felt it was an extremely honest, trustworthy transaction. We would definitely use again.
