We had Dustin Himes as an inspector and he was beyond wonderful. He was right on time, professional and extremely careful in checking every spot for mold or water damage. He went up the attic, behind all the appliances, checked the walls, bathrooms. Once the problem was identified he was quick to offer a solution that was great and actually one we could fix ourselves. We had had another company come out before and they were not able to fix the problem.
Description of Work: We had a problem of musty smell so worried about water damage somewhere in my daughter's condo in Bellevue.

They not only removed the mold, they found the causes of same and worked with us to fix these problems. We now have a life-time guarantee that the mold will not return as long as we continue to use the bath room fan, and check periodically for any new mold. Environix will return in about 6-months to 1 year to follow-up on this, and then about every 3 years. The guarantee is good for the life of the house for any owner. The cost was considerably less than we originally anticipated because their remediation method does not require replacement of insulation.

They first had to set up fans to dry out the moisture, then apply a mold-killing app, then encapsulate it. They guarantee their work and the cost was about $1800 less than another company I contacted. I would highly recommend this co. They were prompt, professional, and did an outstanding, quality job.
Description of Work: There was a large amount of mold under the crawl space of our new home newly constructed. We hired Environix and they were able to perform the mold remediation, starting within a few days, and completing the job in est. 2 1/2 weeks so that we can occupy our home sooner than we realized.

They did a complete assessment for mold, and made sure my home was healthy. They submitted a report and everything, and it was very good. They tested my environment to see if i had an mold and everything. Everything came out find, and they made recommendation on vents and fans. I would give them an A, they did a good job. They were very throughout, they measured everything, the condensation on the windows. They got the meter readings outside and compared them on the inside. Provided a very comprehensive report, and a lab report. They only improvement that I would recommend was that they made a couple errors on the document that I received. I called them and asked them to rectify it, and they have not followed up. Its not big deal, I may give them a call, but I like things precise. They were responsive, because when I followed up I talked to a specialist and she explained to me the readings, what they meant. She went over everything very well with me. They were very punctual.

I have had an experience, and it was very good. They were testing the air to see where the humidity was coming from. The person who came to do the testing was extremely knowledgeable, and he took a lot of time to explain to me what he was doing. The report they provided me was very detailed and gave me very simple steps for me to follow. They were great.

Environix’s analysis concluded I had weatherproofed the house so completely that I was no longer getting sufficient ventilation. Not only was humidity building up so were other undesirable pollens and pollutants. In addition to wall insulation and an exterior vent, they recommended I needed 50 CFM continuous exhaust ventilation for my house and that an HRV system would never pay for itself. I already had a 50 CFM fan in the kitchen so I simply turned it on 24 hours a day. The humidity gradually dropped from 65% to 30% in a month. In the following two winter months it tracked between 30% and 45% depending on the outside temperature and humidity. The condensation throughout the house completely disappeared along with the mold on the windows, window trim and walls. Even the mold in the texture of the shower pan disappeared. Our monthly heating bill for the coldest two months of winter are up about $25-30 per month compared to last year; including January which was 6 degrees colder than last year. Environix was the best $350 deal I’ve ever had.
Description of Work: We had a severe humidity problem in our 1924 vintage Craftsman style house. Over the past few years mold started growing on the windows and walls. I talked to eight different HVAC companies asking to solve the problem with a Heat Recovery Ventilator and a whole house dehumidifier system. The only bid I got was about $15,000 for the HRV, dehumidifier and ductwork plus additional costs to make the attic accessible for all this equipment. Yet that bidder recommended I get an environmental assessment done before beginning the work to make sure I didn’t have a water intrusion problem. So I called Environix.

The actual visit itself went okay. Guy named Dustin was here and he was friendly, punctual, and knowledgeable. So far so good. On site assessment was that we indeed had humidity issue due to less than ideal ventilation around the house. He gave us couple of suggestions on how to fix the issue with constant flow fans and this was all good. We even asked him for his recommendation for an electrician that can do the job since he gave us good impression. As he was leaving, we asked him if he can give us the exact model numbers for those fans since we were eager to fix this problem and he said he will email us the numbers that night. Nothing happened and the next day, we followed up with office about the model numbers. Office didn't know anything about this and Dustin had already gone for vacation so we had to wait. Sure, we understand that people can make a mistake so we were willing to let this go. So we finally wait for them to give us final report and got those model numbers we needed. We wanted to save some bucks so we searched around and got the exact fan models to install. And in the report, we find a very puzzling statement about asbestos; that our house needed to be check for asbestos?! This really freaked us out since we didn't hear anything about this during the visit and this was 5 year old house we recently purchased. We called and wanted to get in touch with him for clarifications and we still have not heard back from them. At this point, we're starting to get annoyed about this whole thing. Now, today was finally the day electrician was scheduled to come and we were at least excited to install these fans since they will help with actual problem we were having. It turns out that model numbers that was in our final report is wrong. The report clearly indicated that we need to apply constant flow fan but the model number they gave us did not have constant flow functionality. We were really lucky that the electrician happened to have a spare in his truck we could use but now I'm just really ******. Needless to say, we had to pay more to get the fan since I found the low price on internet but more than that, I was just really disappointed with level of service from these guys. I mean, they don't call us back when we have dire questions (which their report caused!), they make careless mistakes in their final report to us, etc. The inspection actually cost me over $500 and the level of service I got so far simply doesn't justify that kind of money. Heck, with all the "mistakes" and hiccups I went through here, I wouldn't be satisfied with the service even if I paid much less than that.
Description of Work: We felt a lot of humidity in our newly bought house so we wanted to find out if this was an issue we needed to take care of. We looked around and found this company which seemed good. We knew it was going to be bit pricey from the start but since we recently bought the house, we thought it would be worth the money to find out for sure (whether we have an issue with humidity).

From the start, my experience with Environix was a positive one. My request for information was answered immediately. Dustin came to do the inspection and estimate, and the work commenced as soon as I agreed to the bid. Everything was done with integrity, transparency, and precision. I felt immediate trust working with Dustin and now fully understand his answer to my question about why he enjoys his work...that he can identify problems and fix them. I, too, am glad that he could identify the problems and fix them. His experience and expertise turned a most distressing situation into a pleasant one. After the death of a dear friend, I needed to prepare the house to go on the market. Environix took over the very difficult, overwhelming, and sad task of emptying the home. They then began the work of mold remediation and finished the job leaving the house ready for the contractors who would restore the home to its former glory. I greatly appreciated all the care and respect that the Environix team showed to the house and its former owner. I certainly hope that I won’t have the need for their services in the future, but if I do, I wouldn’t hesitate to enlist their services again.

On day of service, workers arrived on time, at 8AM. They worked all day to complete five attic spaces. Due to heat in attics, they rescheduled work for last attic for the following week. There was some confusion regarding the ducting of fans. We were able to clear up this misunderstanding and Environix came back, and made the correction at no extra cost to us.
Description of Work: We are a twelve unit condominium in Kirkland, Washington. After earlier attic inspection by Environix, we hired them to do some remediation work. In each of six attic spaces, they did a 2 stage treatment for mold. They also air sealed all accessible major ceiling penetrations, cleared insulation from blocked soffit vents, and replaced fan ducting with 4" insulated ducts.

Very skilled, prompt, friendly service. Showed him where the attic was and left him to do the work. I asked a lot of questions and was very happy with the answers. So worth the money and I would recommend this company to anyone. I read through all Angie's List reviews before choosing this company, so there were no surprises.
Description of Work: I have breast cancer and wanted to detox my house. I've had mold along my window sill in master bath and wanted to make sure I didnt have black mold growing in the walls. Meant to do this for years and now had serious reason. I read all of the reviews before picking this company. Yeah the upfront cost of having them just come out wasnt cheap. But if they found remediation was needed most of the cost would have been applied toward remediation. I wanted a company that would give me quality service and tell me the truth. And they did! No mold in my walls. The visible mold that won't come off the wall is stains. They confirmed I can paint over them. All of our neighbors are replacing their 18-year old cedar shakes for over $25k. Environix checked my attic and there is no sign of water anywhere. Since we plan to sell our house next year that saves us a ton of money. I also had my master bedroom air quality tested since we spend 1/3 of our lives there. All checked out good. They did recommend replacing the master bath fan, but that was it. Well worth the money I spent for quality service and an honest answer.

During renovation of our kitchen, we had some concerns whether there was asbestos in the insulation. We called Environix at 4PM in the afternoon (on a Wed) scrambling to find a company to do testing as soon as possible. The ladies I talked to were wonderful to work with and they had someone out at our house at 8AM the next morning. Alan showed up exactly on time and was very helpful in determining which areas to be concerned with. We opted to test for all materials in the kitchen (drywall texturing & insulation) even thought the insulation might not have been necessary. Cost was $180 to sample the drywall and $70 to test the insulation. The total bill was $439. We were told we'd have to wait until Tuesday to get the results - unfortunately we weren't that patience and really wanted answers before the weekend. We called again, and once more the people we talked to were very helpful and called up the lab to see if we could expedite our testing. Even though it cost an additional $80 for the quick turn around, we received final word on the results by 2PM on Friday. Overall, great experience and professionalism.

These guys were great. I would definitely use them again. I purchased a property with three residences on it and all showed signs of mold and mildew. I was concerned about how safely the residences could be lived in and what might need to be done to remedy any issues. They arrived promptly, were very thorough and explained what they found in detail. They found lots of issues I hadn't found and were able to confirm that two of the residences just needed a thorough cleaning, while the third residence has major mold and moisture issues. They took photos and notes of everything they did and gave me a complete report with all of the information they discussed with me. It even included recommendations for replacement ventilation fans for the bathrooms to help prevent future moisture and mold issues. In short, they were great. I highly recommend them.

When I called to schedule an appointment for an estimate I was informed there was $150 charge just for the estimate! I asked if the charge was at least rolled into the final quote if I selected them, but they said no, the fee was charged on top of any actual services provided. I thought this was crazy, why would I pay for an estimate for a non-trivial job (final project was around $2000)? They tried to make themselves sound noble by saying other providers raise their estimates to cover the cost of sending out a technician for an estimate. Well duh. A business has to recoup their expenses, but that doesn't mean I'm going to pay to have someone come out when I have no guarantee that their quote is even competitive. When I asked them why I should take that risk, they just said that they have always been competitive. I found their whole attitude snotty and didn't bother scheduling an estimate and eventually selected a different vendor who did a great job.

Response from Environix Testing & Remediation
I totally understand your initial frustration. Most of our competitors offer free bids. At first this sounds like a better deal. But when you look at the full project, I believe our technique provides a dramatically better value. We perform over 2,000 inspections per year and only a couple of those balk at the inspection price once we explain the value. I truly am disappointed that we couldn't convey the value. For the sake of others who may be caught off-guard by the inspection fee, please let me explain why we operate this way. Here are the differences between our competitors who offer a free bid vs. Environix: -- Companies offering free bids spend 10 minutes in your attic. We spend an hour. Charging for an inspection allows us to spend enough time to truly solve the problem. -- They do not diagnose the cause of the problem. They just clean up the mold and hope for the best. The mold growth inevitably returns and we are the ones called to do it the right way. We won't start a project until we are confident we've solved the problem. -- Because we charge for an inspection, we don't feel like we need to sell our clients anything. We've already covered our time. Any company offering free inspections will inevitably just happen to find a need for professional mold remediation on every inspection. We, on the other hand, often tell customers they don't need to hire us for the remediation, they would get a better value from hiring a roofer to replace the sheathing on their next reroof. This kind of integrity dramatically reduces the amount of money we make. But we're committed to treating our customers right. -- Companies offering free inspections will nearly always tell you that you need to replace your insulation (for a cost of $2-3,000). This is completely pointless and offers no benefit. -- Companies offering free inspections do not assess the interior of the home for humidity issues. This is a critical oversight, because all of the water vapor that condenses on the attic sheathing has migrated from the interior of the home. This is why you don't find mold in the attic above your garage. Companies offering free bids are not motivated to find the source of the problem. All they care about it selling you a treatment. -- We offer a legit lifetime warranty. Preventing attic mold is complicated. To offer a true lifetime warranty requires a lot of thought and experience. Our competitors warranties exclude the very conditions that cause mold in the first place: moisture. I hope this doesn't come across defensive. We are just really passionate about doing things the right way and offering a great value to our customers. Trust me, we could make a lot more money if we offered free bids to everyone and compromised our integrity.

It was an excellent experience! The receptionists were always easy to reach and were extremely helpful. Tim returned a call promptly on a Sunday to answer a question. Scheduling was great. Workers were prompt and professional. All the work was very well done. One worker even returned to tape up some plastic overhang on the floor and put the vent slat at the top because my kitten kept getting in! (There were no doors to keep her out!) The whole job went smoothly and couldn't have been better. I highly recommend Environix!!!
