Kudos to Environix for making the appointment process and the actual visit extremely worry free. The office staff made sure to get all of my information from me before Tim came out to the house. I had Tim inspect the crawlspaces for mold. These crawlspaces are nasty due to standing water and the other usuals like rodents. Tim submitted a very detailed report and left me with a positive feeling that the crawlspace has a few minor issues, but all fixable. He even answered my questions about ventilation and encapsulating the crawlspace. He gave me helpful tips on what a good installation of vapor barrier would look like, and also other insulation issues. Tim was very presentable and professional. Thanks for the excellent service!

Technician evaluated mold growth and indicated it was minimal, but did identify ventillation issues in the attic. Provided two options for solving the ventilation issue and is currently designing a solution to install the HRV to solve the moisture problem in the house.
Description of Work: I called with a request to evaluate mold growth in the home and attic space, as well as a quote on installing a Heat recovery ventilator (HRV).

From first contact Environix was incredibly helpful and professional. They made sure to be very clear about the cost of the inspection and what that would entail. During the inspection Tim was very professional and patient, taking the time to explain what he was doing and what he was seeing as he went from room to room. Overall we were very happy with our experience and the peace of mind Environix provided was invaluable.
Description of Work: We were concerned that we might have a mold problems in our apartment and wanted to have an inspection done just in case.

Dan Ventura walked through the bathroom, crawled through our attic and climbed up on the roof to inspect the areas for mold. He used a number of different devices during his inspection (moisture sensors, infrared cameras & air quality meter etc.). He was very professional and methodical during his research and he spoke with me at every step of the way and explained what he was doing and why. He was very knowledgeable and informative! His final conclusiion was that we did NOT have a mold problem but a "Lack of Air Circulation" in the house & attic problem. This was wonderful news and of course it was great to know that Dan didn't sell us more services that we did not need. His customer service was superb and he offered to be available by phone if we had any questions while fixing the circulation problem. He was genuinely a nice guy and we would recommend him and his company to anyone who has the need for their services!
Description of Work: Inspection of our bathroom and attic for mold as we were getting a very musty smell coming from those areas in the house.

UPDATE12/19/2015:A-OK.Normally, I do all of the interviewing/hiring for projects. My husband did this time. An inspector came was nice&did the work. Came back and sat down&walked us through findings. After a half hour, in the living room, it dawns on me: this guy looks familiar.I read the jacket, it says Environix.I ask him his name to be sure&he says"Tim"! Needless to say, I almost fell over (*if you read my previous review). After spending time with Tim (which I'm almost positive he recognized me), I absolutely had to update my review. Tim so professional, diplomatic&oh-so courteous.Given the lambasting doled out at my house, I'm not so sure how I would've been gracious. Because that's how Tim acted. He was the epitome of professionalism, courtesy, and grace. Therefore, I have increased my rating to reflect this. *****ORIGINAL: I have no motivation and I gain nothing from being anything short of frank and honest on the A-List. I only post MY EXPERIENCE. No Less. No More. When Tim Klassen came to my home at the appointed time, I was having my electrical wiring updated. People that I knew where coming in and out of the house. Since the door was open, Tim took it as an invitation not to knock or ring the doorbell but to enter my home, walk to the nearest ledge and start shuffling through his paperwork. Rude! He hadn't identified himself so I said "Hello! Who are you?" He said "I'm Tim Klassen." I said "Tim Klassen from where?" He then pointed to his chest and said, while I read "Environix". I can't be sure about anyone else but I considered this to be extremely discourteous and unprofessional. Seriously. I don't know who you are. Don't enter my home. I don't care if the door is wide open. You knock. I should have taken that as a cue and sent him away right then and there. Tim proceeded by asking me to show him where the problem areas in my home were. Strangely enough, all of the areas I mentioned ended up in the report except for an additional one (1) that was in the attic.I asked him to go up there and test the air and he said "Oh, we don't do that." I figured since I was paying full price and not having them test the air in my house that they could do an even exchange and check the air in the attic. This was not to be so. Since the air quality in the attic isn't the same as the house he wouldn't do it. So,did this mean I was to get a discount here since services received were already shrinking? No. Prior to Tim coming over, I did specify that I wanted a sample of our sheetrock to be taken in to the lab. He took a sample from the closet and a sample from the living room. In the report, he said there was no mold in the walls. Okay. I could have done this myself since the electricians were here running cable through my walls and taking almost identically sized chunks out of my walls which I had previously visually inspected.Since I did check before Environix came over, I almost cancelled the appt. but knowing that they were going to provide a full inspection with a lab report, I kept the appt. I shouldn't have. Always go with your instincts. I had spoken to June on the telephone and she'd told me that Environix works with a lab that identifies what type of mold is on the premises. Yet, when I got the Summary Report from Environix, it said nothing about the type of mold. It just named the areas that I pointed out and one that Tim viewed with his headlamp when he peered his head in the attic. He never went up to check. Also, in the report, Tim said that there was water leakage and mold coming from my toilet. Due to the fact that I have an unfinished basement, I was able to go down and double check. I was already aware that there had been some leakage BEFORE I moved in and was no longer an issue (I had a plumber come and double check leakage when we moved in and it was fine). I ran downstairs to double check the wood and it was Bone Dry. Tim NEVER touched it to see if it was a present or past issue. He then went outside and wrote in his report that none of our downspouts were diverting water away from the house. Not True. How do I know this? Because I dug the holes myself and cut they piping measuring 36" myself and attached to our downspouts except for two. In the report, he didn't say two weren't diverting, he said 'None'. This company uses makes things sound worse than they are so they can get your money. It is very rude for me to hire Environix for one thing and it to respond by serving me with a proposed five thousand ($5,000.00) dollar invoice for work that I had not even discussed with Tim whatsoever. Furthermore, in the summary there were some erroneous assertions in the report as well as omissions. I knew my toilet wasn't leaking. I look/touch it periodically b/c my wood is water stained. I knew Tim hadn't touched the wood to see if it was wet because I know it is not. For the most part, a person knows the ins and outs of their house. I went downstairs again to double check because this would have been new news and it was bony dry. The wood had been previously stained, which I had conveyed during the summarized walk-through conversation. In the summary, there is a remediation treatment recommended for our attic sheathing and when we spoke about Tim looking/testing my attic, he flatly refused. How is it that it is deemed appropriate for recommendations on a space Environix refused to even test? The mind reels at how a $375 dollar contract turned into a $5K invoice for 'proposed work'. Incidentally, I never got a carbon copy of what I signed when Tim was here. Instead, I got served with a $5K invoice for 'proposed work' for which I keep getting emails and phone calls to set up a time as if I'd already agreed! This persisted for the next three weeks. What Tim did discuss at length was how I almost certainly had lead in my walls and how it would be a "thirty-seven-thousand dollar fine if you remove it yourself so we can do it for you".Tim persisted with the 'fear factor' of the $37K fine and proceeded to repeatedly drive the heavy-handed sales pitch home more than once. I'm not deaf. I heard him the first time and ignored him for a reason: I did not hire him to assess anything else in my home but mold. Stop talking and get to work. The sales pitch delivered had nothing to do with the Why of why I hired Environix. Yet, that is what we discussed outside of me - yes, me- pointing out where the mold was/had been. This is what I paid for. I paid to tell Tim where the mold was so he could put it in a summarized report/invoice (something I could have easily done for a 10th grade class), and have him verbally try to intimidate/scare me (as the customer) into hiring the Environix company for work that had everything to do with lead and nothing to do with mold. The man sent me pamphlets afterwards!During our interview, and I understand that Tim, as a salesman, felt compelled to give the hard sell on the lead - which he proceeded to do by inserting the $37,000 dollar fear into the conversation (time and again) and pressed on as well as by sending brochures. Hmm...After each hard sell, he'd say "Oh, we can do the work for you". I bet. What's even better than paying almost $400 for a report that masks as an invoice is being told that I need $5,000 worth of additional work on my house for mold abatement whose sample was never even sent to the lab! At least give me a lab report to go with the summary of pictures and write-up that I could have taken/done myself. I told you where all the mold formerly was b/c it was no longer there! I had scrubbed it clean! In some parts, it hadn't resurfaced for over a year and yet my comment still made it into the report as if it was still a current problem. When I asked about the missing lab analysis report, they told me it would cost an extra hundred ($100.00) to send it to the lab. Nice. Needless to say, I was confused. Envirionix was ONLY called for analysis and they couldn't even do that right. They were too busy writing up a proposed work invoice for Five Thousand Dollars as well as driving the repeated hard sell about 'Lead in your walls' home. After my request for an actual lab analysis report that I was told would be an extra hundred, I said 'No thanks" and stopped communication. Yet, they continued to request to move forward for unsolicited work? Who said we were remodeling? Tim walked in on electricians installing light fixtures. Calm down. As far as Environix ever doing work for us? Thanks but no thanks.Again, I didn't discuss any further work or the possibility of additional work with Tim, especially regarding mold, only lead and it was he doing the talking about EPA fines, etc. not about mold but about lead. Talk about your hard sell and inseminating fear into the customer to get work.Mainly based on the fact that not ONCE was "Work" ever - EVER- mentioned in Any of my conversations with the company nor during my encounter during Tim's inspection, yet Environix contacted me repeatedly to make an appointment on their schedule without ever discussing it first, the relationship is hereby severed.I am a completely dissatisfied customer. Even if I needed additional work, I would not hire Environix.Environix has received my monies for the visual analysis Tim conducted and now my relationship with the company is over.

Response from Environix Testing & Remediation
I am very disappointed that this customer had such a negative perception of our company. However, I cannot in good conscience apologize for our work as there is nothing to apologize for. Many companies on Angie’s List simply call the customer and offer a full refund if they will remove their negative report. However, I don’t believe this is an ethical approach. I believe the customers are best served by an honest declaration of the facts from both sides. In regards to the complaint regarding how our inspector walked in through the front door, I don’t believe the customer’s account represents the facts fully. At the time of the inspection there were numerous contractors working on the house, turning the entire home into a jobsite. We did not just ‘walk into her home’. That would be very rude and our company wouldn’t last long acting in such a disrespectful way. The customer also complained about our refusal to collect an air sample from the attic. In the several thousand inspections we’ve performed we have never collected an air sample in the attic. This is because the attic is not a conditioned space and is actively ventilated to the outside. Thus an air test would be a waste of money because we would merely be testing the outside air. Her complaint is ironic because we could make quite a bit more money if we were unscrupulous and followed her suggestion to sample the attic. The customer also disputed our analysis of the leaking toilet. She claims she knew it wasn’t wet because she touched it and it was dry. The whole reason people hire us is to use a more technical approach that touching wood to identify if it is dry. Wood can use a tremendous amount of moisture without any identifiable wetness on the surface. This is why we use a moisture meter. Our measurements showed highly saturated materials. I am at a loss how to explain this anymore. The customer felt like our inspector used high pressure scare tactics. This complaint leaves me completely flabbergasted. We actually took pains to point out how her general contractor was fleecing her and how she could save money. Our company isn’t flawless, but one thing is true, our customers never complain about upselling or using scare tactics. I believe our website and our marketing literature is a testament to this. We go to great lengths to dispel the myths over toxic mold and erroneous health effects. She also mentioned that we sent her an invoice for $5,000. This is completely untrue. We sent a remediation bid, not an invoice. We hadn’t even begun a project at her home let alone send her an invoice. If the customer is angry about receiving a bid, I’m not sure what to say. People hire us to identify mold problems, and if we find one, submit a proposal. I do not see how to accomplish this without submitting a bid. In regards to her complaints regarding ‘lead in your walls’, our inspector noted large quantities of lead based paint chips throughout the construction zone. The contractors working in her home were demolishing lead based paint materials. This is a major EPA violation that carries extremely hefty fines ($10,000+). If we didn’t point this out, we would be in violation. The customer also complained that we were using scare tactics to upsell lead remediation services. This cannot be true, as we do not perform lead remediation services.

Overall, it went very well. They took about 1 hour to test the whole house with 50 samples throughout. After testing I got a complete report of the areas we tested and the amount of lead paint in the house.
Description of Work: We just purchased a house that was built in 1958. During this time it was a very common practice to use lead paint in the house. I wanted to know the areas of lead in in the house and the surrounding soil of the house before we moved in. The technician came out and was very professional in his work. He performed enough tests to cover our entire house and the soil around it. I would recommend this organization for lead testing in the future! Karl

They came out after the initial inspection and removed all of the damaged materials from my home. They set up a plastic contained area to keep the dust and mold from entering another part of the house. They came back 3 days later to remove all of the fans and broke down the containment area. a few days later Tim came back out to help us find the source of the problem. He was very thorough and professional. Great guy..... but I hope I never have to see him again.... :)
Description of Work: We had a small water leak that leaked into a downstairs closet. When we turned the heat on the ceiling heated up and mold quickly formed in the closet. We have a heat duct that runs through the closet. Environix (Tim Klassen) came out for a fee and gave me a recommendation. I hired them to complete the work of removing the damaged carpet, pad, all dry wall and wood that was damaged from the mold and water. They also set up a equipment for 3 days to dry out and contain the area.

I am the property manager for a 72 unit condo complex. One of the residents called to tell me that they had hired a window washer who, after finishing his work, told the residents that he smelled a strong odor of mildew in the condo. He throught there was a large liklihood that there was mold somewhere in the condo, which could lead to health problems, etc. We contacted Environix, who sent out Dan Ventura to check out the situation. He gave the condo a thorough visual inspection; his conclusion was that the liklihood of mold was slim; but that after hearing that a hot water tank had leaked from an upstairs unit a year or so previous, he suggested taking an air sample. After sampling the air, a very thorough report was sent, along with an explanation of some of the more technical aspects of the findings. Since his initial instinct was correct, no "mold remediation" was necessary. Dan also gave some very helpful suggestions for increasing air exchange in the unit, especially the use of Panasonic Whisper-Green bath fans, which run constantly at low speed to help circulate air. He added other suggestions, such as a Carbon Monoxide alarm, since the condo has a wood-burning fireplace. All through the experience, Dan was knowledgable, and did not recommend "services" that were not necessary, but which would make profit for the company. The residents were reassured and grateful for Dan's kindness, professional savvy, and his attention to detail. They asked that I give a "glowing" report to Angie's List.
Description of Work: Environix was called when a worker in the condo mentioned a musty smell, which he thought was evidence of mold. The technician came out, performed a thorough visual inspection, and did a test of the air quality in the unit. Since the report from the test indicated no mold being present, no further action was required.

Dan explored every nook and cranny of the house, attic, basement and even went out on the roof to look at some peeling siding. The report that we received was very comprehensive. He called and explained everything gave recommendations and offered to help us with assessing HVAC contractors. I felt the information that we were given was complete and worth the cost. Honestly, I cannot say enough about Environix except for I wished we called them two years ago when we bought the house. If you are having any concerns or you feel like maybe your house is making you sick do yourself a favor and call them.
Description of Work: We own a home in Seattle and called Environix to come in and test the air quality throughout our house (and check ceiling for asbestos). Our main concerns were mold but we have some health issues in the family and wanted everything checked out. I talked to Kathy and she gave me a lot of information and some suggestions and very good at explaining what we would be getting for the cost. I received an email from her before the visit that was very helpful. The person doing the testing was Dan and he came exactly when he was suppose to. He spent over an hour checking out our house. He let me follow him every step of the way explaining every thing he saw and was looking at. I had endless questions and I felt that he was very patient with me.

We discovered mold in our attic and contacted a number of local companies to obtain estimates for remediation. Each company had a very different approach in performing the remediation. One even recommended removing all the insulation.Environix came in and did a thorough inspection. They had great advice on proper use of the whole house ventilation system and were the only ones that detected that the bathroom fans were incorrectly vented through the soffits. This was likley the cause of the mold. They recommended new bathroom fans that run constantly at a lower cfm and then automatically bump up to full cfm using the included motion sensor. I performed this installation myself. Environix applied the microbial and encapsulant, as well as installing all new soffit baffles and sealing around ceiling fixtures. They performed this work in a single day. They laid down protective plastic everywhere.
Description of Work: Replaced soffit baffles to ensure proper ventilation applied microbial agent to mold areas applied an encapsulant over the entire attic sheathing sealed all openings in ceiling and wall plates

We had a pre-sale inspection of our house which showed some evidence of mold. Wow! It's an emotional issue that can effect health and the substantial investment of a house. We had considered having our handyman work it out. We looked into it. However, there is no guarantee that it is completely taken care of. I did my homework and made a couple of calls. I was impressed by the professional and knowledgeable responses from Environix. Tim Klasson came out for the bid and inspection. We received our report within just a few days with the recommendations for abatement and making the environment "unfriendly" for any future problems. Blake was just here for the abatement. He carefully prepped the area that he was working in so that it remained clean. Loved that! We only have to call for our final inspection and we can get our certificate! Problem solved! Not only is this company good at what they do, they are very responsive to questions both through e-mail and phone. THIS IS AN A+ COMPANY!
Description of Work: We had an inspection and abatement of mold in the attic after our pre-sale inspection turned up evidence of mold. Having peace of mind that we can hand over a certificate/warranty that it has been completely taken care of will really help us attract confident buyers. Some banks won't even approve a mortgage for a home that there is evidence of mold in! While our problem was relatively small, we can now mark it off the list. Everyone from the inspector, Tim Klasson (also an owner), the the office, to the abatement specialist (Blake) were knowledgeable, polite, and responsive. We were educated about every step. Even in the abatement process, Blake was careful not to leave a speck of dust or insulation in the house.

Dan Ventura came out and did the inspection. He was very professional and extremely helpful. He answered all my questions and explained what Environix would do about the mold. Even though, Environex does not do any work other then mold remediation, Dan told me what he thought I needed to do to fix the leak around the window and offered to recommend some dry wall installers. After I agreed to their bid, a technician was sent out to do the work. The technician was extremely nice. He took a lot of precautions to keep the mold and dust out of the rest of the house. He was very careful to protect my carpets and flooring. First he removed a16 foot baseboard molding and a 8 foot wooden window sill, without damaging them and treated them for mold. He then removed all the drywall and insulation from ceiling to floor and wall to wall. He did an excellent job. He did not leave a speck of dust anywhere. The mold is now gone. It was a very positive experience from start to finish.
Description of Work: There was a moldy smell and signs of water damage all around my master bedroom window. Every time it rained the smell got stronger. Finally, I decided something had to be done. I called Environix to find out how bad the problem was and to get an estimate of how much it would cost to remove all the mold.

Tennant currently undergoing chemo therapy sessions and requested that we perform an air quality check. Air quality results were negative, however, physical inspection of attic and crawl space showed evindence of mold. Mold was apparent, so inspector thoughtfully focused on extent and possible other locations. Explained techniques and equipment; did not get annoyed with interruptions (my many questions). Very professional and courteous. Subsequently scheduled remediation. Though bid was rather expensive, I felt confident Environix would be most thorough and use appropriate remediation techniques. They did. Remediator was timely, friendly, efficient, and careful. Happy overall with service.
Description of Work: Inspection (did not need air sample testing as mold presence apparent), remediation

Due to some respiritory problems experienced by my Mother in Law (who lives with us) I suspected that we may have an air quality issues in our house. I called Environex based on good reports in AngiesList. They were able to schedule an inspection date for a few days later. They said it would take 60-90 minutes to complete the inspections and gather the air samples. I was quoted $625 for the whole job, which included two air samples and lab work. I think they said that it would have been $475 if there was only one sample. They suggested that they take separate air samples for the main floor and the lower floor. My appointment was 10am. Tim called at 9:45am to say that he was running about 15 minutes behind schedule. Indeed, he arrived at 10:15am. He was friendly, efficient and knowledgable. He explained what he was doing everywhere he went, and answered all my questions. His work took about 90 minutes, so he was gone by 11:45am. Even though he did not find any major problems or mold growth, Tim still showed me some areas that I could/should improve my house. The lab results and complete report arrived via email one week later. They gave parts-per-cubic-meter data for the following: Alternaria; Arthrinium; Ascospores; Aureobasidium; Basidiospores; Bipolaris/Drechslera group; Botrytis; Chaetomium; Cladosporium; Curvularia; Epicoccum; Fusarium; Myrothecium; Nigrospora; Other brown; Other colorless; Penicillium/Aspergillus types; Pithomyces; Rusts; Scopulariopsis; Smuts*, Periconia, Myxomycetes; Stachybotrys; Stemphylium; Torula; Ulocladium; Zygomycetes; Background debris (dust). For each of these they described what level is considered too high. Overall, I was quite happy with Environex, although I was surprised that it cost so much.
Description of Work: - Take air samples and provide lab analysis for a variety of airborn particles. - Inspet the house for active mold and/or touble spts that may grow mold in the future. - Review the HVAC system to see if it is moving and filtering the air adequately

I would recommend environix base on my experience. Both Tim(the inspector) and the technician were friendly and knowledgable. Although the technician forgot his ladder but that was no big deal.
Description of Work: I found mold in a 20ft area around my kitchen hood vent in the attic, asked Environix to come out to do an inspection and give an estimate. After receving hte estimate from Environix and couple other vendors I chose Environix to do the job. Environix showed up on time and did a good job of treating the infected area and applied preventive coating on the area that's needed to prevent mold from coming back.

It went well. An air quality tester came to our house and took air samples both upstairs and downstairs. He also checked all our basement walls and floors for moisture. As he did his work, he explained exactly what he was looking for and gave me the results as he discovered them. When the air samples came back from the lab, he sent us a report describing the findings and giving recommendations for solving our problem. As it turned out, our main problem seems to be with the air filter in our furnace and not with excessive live mold. We were told that if we can tighten up the airflow and get a higher-quality filter, we can probably remove both odors and dust (which showed up at high levels in the lab results) from the air. I thought the price was a bit high, but it seems to be in line with other mold remediation vendors.
Description of Work: We had some flooding in our basement a few years ago and have noticed a musty smell when the weather is damp ever since. We wondered: a) if there was any reason to worry, and b) what to do about the smell.

They were a bit slow at getting us the results back. In the end they did a good job and completed job to my expectations.

I was pretty impressed. They were very professional. There was a small problem when they didn't show up for our initial appointment because they had to stay on another job longer than they thought. But they did show up promptly the next day. I was impressed with their work, and they gave me great advice. I really liked that they weren't pushy.
Description of Work: They came in and did a mold inspection in the crawl space in the attic.

Some of the remediation was being done by us and our roofers, and they were very accommodating in doing only what we needed them to do. They were very timely in answering my questions and following up with me. They also offered their service for nearly half the price of their competitors.
Description of Work: They did mold remediation in our attic. We had a slow-growing fungus on the OSB. They came out for an estimate and informed us on what they thought it was. They cleaned and treated the fungus. They also supervised our ventilation remediation.

I called Environix and Mike did an excellent job assessing where the leak was coming from. Mike cut a small whole in the drywall where he suspected the leak was coming from and quickly discovered the source of the leak, fixed it, replaced the drywall and molding and was back the next day to mud, tape and paint. Mike was professional, courteous and very sharp in assessing the source of the leak. His drywall work was flawless, you can't even tell where the repair took place. He even took the time to double check the work I did on replacing the hoses to my dishwasher (which is a lot of work given the layout of our kitchen).
Description of Work: We had a plumbing leak, in what I thought was our kitchen, that was causing the molding in our entry way, to mold and bubble. I thought the leak was coming from our dishwasher. I replaced all the hosing to our dishwasher, but the next day the leak was back. I called Environix because I didn't really know what else to do.
