They were very professional, and their price was incredibly competitive. All of their employees could communicate with me, and they were clean in appearance. This project was extensive, and I really appreciated that they worked around us best they could. They worked hard to ensure everything went as smoothly as possible, I would recommend them to anyone needing their expertise.
Description of Work: This company specializes in construction and repair where there are water issues. Our garage floor actually caved in because of flooding underneath the house. Bodine installed several French drains throughout our property, and repaired the driveway and garage floor.

I'm very happy with the work, I would use these guys again in a heart beat. They were easy to communicate with and kept me informed throughout the 4-week process. They were able to offer up creative solutions to areas around the house where water naturally pooled. I had another company pouring the driveway and they couldn't figure out how to deal with a low point near the front door where water would pool because of the slope of my lot. The solution the other concrete company came up with would have made the situation worse and Bodine called me the day of the pour to alert me to the situation and offer up an immediate solution to remedy the situation. They also brought in new rock and bark returning the yard to it's previous condition. Overall, great attention to detail, and the level of craftsmanship would you expect from a company of this caliber, truly professional work.
Description of Work: Installed waterproof exterior membrane to west side of an old block foundation to keep water out of the basement. Connected 6 existing downspouts into new PVC drainpipe to run to a basin installed in the front yard that outlets to the sewer system. Also installed a catch basin in the driveway. Cost for this portion of the project was $10,850 (includes tax).

The price they quoted me was $12,000 and it was twice as much as four other estimates I got. They were great and did a really thorough job. I was actually very happy with meeting with them and it was just the price that I thought there was no way that I was going with them. I would tell others to definitely consider them, but get a lot of other price estimates. They did a really good job on the estimate.
Description of Work: Bodine Construction Company Inc. came out a week or two or ago and gave me an estimate for basement drainage and that included jacking it up, priming it and putting in some drainage pipes and fill it back with cement.

We has some very bad rains this year with no problems. Our house has a daylight basement so we are very weary of having water build up. Bodine guarantees the work for 5 years.
Description of Work: We had a problem with our drain for the driveway and downspouts. Bodine took the old drain out and replaced it with a new two new drains to separate the driveway drainage from the roof downspout drainage. The made an overflow drain just in case one of the drains plugged up. They filled in the hole with rock as opposted to dirt to allow for a gravitational drain around the house as a secondary backup.

Had Steve Bodine come out for the initial inspection on the house before I even bought the place. We spent a good couple hours looking over some weeping stairs (mid summer) and trying to get an understanding of the existing drain system built around the house. He quoted removing the stairs, finding the footer drain, then blowing out the whole system, inspecting via remote camera and rebuilding the stairs. Prior to rebuilding we planned on going over the inspection report and planning/quoting the results of that. In addition I asked if they could replace some damaged siding and he was able to quote that. I called them back up the day after we closed on the house and started scheduling the repair work. I didn't live in the house at the time so some coordination was needed to allow them access to the basement. As the start of the work approached i never did get a call to coordinate that part, when i called into the main office i would get told they would call back later in the day. this went on a couple of days and finally one of their foreman called me back. From that point on it was frequent and quick communication with the foreman and they got the siding off and replaced quickly as well as demoed the stairs. They cleaned and inspected the footer system. The report took longer to get to me then i expected and calls to the main office were again not returned in the time frame i was told. However, once they did the report and sent it over i was in contact with the operations side and the communication was much better. They were able to answer questions and quoted the additional repairs needed. I scheduled the repair work as well. Their crew came out and started work on Monday and had it closed back up by Tuesday. Very impressive considering they rerouted all the downspouts in the house to a new drain pipe and then ran that to the drainage ditch. They also rebuild a portion of the footer drain that ran near the demoed stairs and prepped the area for a new pouring of the stairs. A couple of days later they came back and poured the stairs and they look great as well as drain properly now. When i compared the repair plan to what I could see around the house i found some discrepancies. I called back the office and managed to get a quicker response this time. They had routed pipes different from the plan, but in a way i would have expected prior to the report (ie underneath a deck instead of all the way around). They sent someone out to double check all the work done and updated the paperwork so that I had a good set of As Built drawings to reference in the future. They provide a great warranty for work done as well as returned the yard as they found it. They replaced any plants that were removed to place the new pipes and disrupted as little as possible. Only time will tell how the drainage works, but we're half way through the winter with not problems manifesting yet and plenty of rain to test it out.
Description of Work: Downspout repipe and routing, footer drain inspection and repair, basement stairs demolition and rebuild, siding replacement.

Steve Bodine came out and talked with me about the options I had concerning my project. Since the culvert is on Snohomish County land, there were restrictions about what we could and could not do. He gave me several options, was knowledable and professional. I received the bid in a couple of days. I accepted the bid and they said that they would start the permit process. I got a call from Mike in a couple of weeks that the county had changed their mind about which permit they wanted. He took the new paperwork in, and we had the permit in a week or so. I scheduled the job out for a couple of weeks. When nobody showed up on the appointed day, i called the office to find out why. I got a call back from Steve Bodine within 10 minutes. He said that because of the good weather, they had more jobs going than expected, and were running a little behind. I'm not in a rush, so not a big deal. They dropped off some material that day, and started work the following Monday. Dave has been the main guy on the job, assisted some days by a couple other workers. The work progressed at an uneven pace, but steady none the less. Dave agreed that they were streched thin from all the work that had come in. Several days he was here by himself. It took about 10 days to finish up everthing. That includes a couple of days that Dave got pulled to another site, as well as waiting for visits from the county inspector. The county asked Dave to address a couple different areas not included in or called for in the original plan. I laughed when he told me what the county wanted, but he was happy to comply, no questions asked. The job would have been done much quicker if Dave had a crew each day. For this situation, that was not a big deal. I must commend Dave on doing a great job. Everything looks great. I'm very happy with the finished project. Everybody I dealt with was friendly and professional. They returned calls quickly and expressed concern that I was getting what I wanted. I would use their services again.
Description of Work: I had Bodine regrade the culvert in front of my house, instill drain pipe, cover with gravel, and finish to Snohomish county requirements.

I have basement garage and the concrete driveway is about 15 ft long and down sloping. I had hired them to remove the old concrete, pour new concrete, and install a new drain system. One crew came and removed all the old concrete and piping. Another crew came that was going to install the new drainage system and concrete did not know how to install to the system that was supposed to be set up. I had to explain to them what they should do and eventually the foreman had to come out to correct the mistake.

Steve provided a detailed bid and his crew started the work on schedule. His price was higher than my two other bids, but he also seemed to present the best solution from an engineering perspective. At times during the project I wonder if communication amongst the crew and with me could have been better (i.e. I think *much* more dirt was excavated and then replaced than was necessary, and the cinder-block wall is not quite aligned with the location I had discussed with Steve), which gave me some anxiety, but at the end I am pleased with the result. Doing things like cutting out old protruding rebar and laying a vapor barrier over the remaining un-excavated portion of the basement were not necessarily expected, but much appreciated. For future similar projects I would again take competitive bids, but would not exclude Bodine from that cycle.
Description of Work: A ground water drainage line was installed in the basement and tied into an existing drain. Routing the new line involved cutting through an existing concrete slab as well as some additional excavation in the basement. A new concrete footer and cinder block wall was installed on top of the new drainage line.

Bodine came to the house to review the problem, provided a bid for the proposed work to correct the problem, and took the time needed to explain the proposed solution and costs with me. Work was done by 2 different crews, based on their specialty. They arrived on time and performed professionally. I had questions not directly related to the contracted work, and they were extremely helpful in solving those issues. Very satisfied with the work they did.
Description of Work: Added drainage (cut through concrete, dug trenches, installed piping and drain, resurfaced with concrete)where water pooled against house during rain events and had the perimeter drains checked (with camera) to verify they were in good operating condition.

Bodine did a full drawing for OUR yard to keep the water system on our own lot. However, it would have required a huge amount of manual labor with a "rentention" system dug into our backyard. I called and asked the reasons for that type of system, and they indicated it was to keep our two lots systems separate. However, I KNOW from digging in my backyard that we are hardpan clay, with NO drainage at all, no more than 6 inches below surface. SO, I sent them over to neighbors to give them a bid to re-do their drainage system, with the possibility of sharing some of the cost. The drawings were perfect, very readable, and logical. The price was quite high, so neighbor and I are still talking and considering this proposal. No work has been done yet, and thankfully, no monsoons creating flooding for him.
Description of Work: Our neighbor 's roof drainage system and our roof drainage system evidently were installed by the old builder 35 yrs. ago into the same small line. Neighbor has had continuous driveway and garage flooding. He had three bids to repair, I insisted on Bodine giving an estimate too, as I've used them before many times for my clients (I am a Realtor). The two guys came prepared to do a thorough bid, including using their camera equipment. The problem was found NOT to be on my property, but solely on my neighbors, whose drainfield was clogged with roots and stones and dirt in an older piping system.

I am very unhappy with them. They didn’t show up on time. They didn’t return my calls. They came out on the first day and didn’t show up from the next day. I had taken time off my work for an entire week. Everytime I made an arrangement to stay at home, they never showed up. They told me that the job would be completed in 45 days, but it took 8 months to finish the same. They were doing work elsewhere. I knew that they weren’t interested in my work. However, I didn’t know what to do at that time. They did the plumbing illegally. They didn’t get the permit. After I caught them, they had to redo everything. The owner was very nasty and he told me that if I had wanted the permit, I should have told him about it. I couldn’t believe it. It still astounds me that somebody would do work without getting proper permits. I don’t know what they were doing; everything that they did, they had to redo it thrice. I was so disappointed with them that I just wanted to pay them and get rid off them. I regret the decision of having them do the work. The reason I had hired them was the steps from my basement to the laundry room was damp. They couldn’t figure out the reason for it. They took me on a $12000 ride. They also told me that they would grout and seal the front steps. They charged $200 for the job. All they did was they caulked two places. They probably used a total of four inches of caulk. I told them that if that was all they had to do, I could have done the work myself. I thought they would seal the entire stairway. I paid them nine months ago. They were a complete rip-off. The owner was dishonest, unprofessional and didn’t have permits. He started the work last year and didn’t complete the work until nine months ago. They didn’t know a lot of things correctly. The entire project exhausted me. Now, there is a leak in my basement, which I will ask them to look at. I’ll never hire them again for any other project in the future.

Response from BODINE CONSTRUCTION SERVICES, INC.
To Whom It May Concern and It Should: The member contacted us on June 30, 2008 to specifically address some maintenance issues/items. The total scope ranged from concrete work to gutter cleaning. Never was basement waterproofing a topic. Listed are those items: A) Stairwell drain repair, seepage under door. B) Door repair. C) Gutter maintenance. D) Concrete walkway repair. E) Grout gaps in tile entry. F) Install window wells for below grade window sills. A proposal/bid listing all of these items was presented on July 24, 2008 along with a diagram/sketch of specific locations of items and bid amounts prior to any work being done. The member’s interpretation of “basement waterproofing” is a 3” drain at the base of stairs at exterior of the home which was backing up and allowing seepage under the door. The member states we never returned calls?? We don’t use an answering service, our personnel/office staff do answer the phones from 5:30 A.M to 5:00 P.M. My cell number is on our after hours voice mail. These are typically returned the following day. We also communicated with the member through e-mail. We make a strong effort to make ourselves “available”. In response that work took 8 months, yes it did. After we started the member advised us we had to work around her schedule of taking days off work even though 90% of the work was to the exterior of the home; concrete work, gutters, etc. We were not aware of this until after we started. Scheduling our crew(s) around this presented scheduling difficulties on our end. The member never expressed this as being a problem. We have e-mails from her that confirm this. In response to illegally plumbing and she “caught us”. The member works for City Government. If a “repair” to a stairwell drain is required with a permit the member didn’t ask until after work was complete. Yes, I stated to the member if she wanted a permit for this we would obtain one. After we obtained a permit, we completed the work, BCSI never approached the member with any additional charges. In response to a $12,000ºº ride, seven items were completed as indicated above. The drain at the base of the stairs was $1,542ºº. The front steps to her home was tiled, attached to existing concrete steps, installed by others. Several areas of missing grout was present. The member claims 4 inches of caulk?? Caulk was not used, cement grout was used and approximately 9 linear feet of grout applied, our bid stated it with a bid amount of $200ºº + Tax for this task. Additional items that were done for the member at no charge included a pipe inspection to the side sewer with pipe camera (a value of approximately $200ºº - $250ºº) and a repair to a leaky water service pipe at no charge (value approximately $200ºº). Never were these items discussed or presented as billable items. All work was stated in writing/bid form prior to any work being done which included written proposal with a sketch prior to any work. When work was complete an invoice was presented. The tone of her complaints implies we did the work then charged her without her knowledge!! It is regrettable that the member has such negative thoughts about us. The comments made about BCSI after over eight months of completion of work are sad. Having been in business for over 25 years and having many extremely happy customers (many repeat customers), hopefully our record speaks for itself. Steve Bodine

I purchased a home (new construction) that had gone through foreclosure, so the builder was fully out of the picture. The inspections revealed that the drainage in the crawlspace was "faked" (to use their term). The trenching was only 2-3 inches deep and it all led to nowhere. So small ponds had formed beneath the house. I had the real estate agent obtain bids from both Bodine and PermaDry. I didn't deal with either upfront, but the agent said that Bodine was more detailed and professional in their dealings, whereas the rep from PermaDry almost acted like they didn't want the job. Bodine's bid was $1500 more than PermaDry, but they offered a few additional items. I went with Bodine because they are known for their "Nordstrom" service and PermaDry is "Wallmart". The project was supposed to take 5 days. Three workers showed up early each day, and several other Bodine employees showed up along the way. Toward the end, there were as many as 5 employees doing work and overseeing the project. They finished a day early. Everyone was courteous and professional along the way, and you quickly get the impression that they are very knowledgeable, focused and that they take their work quite seriously. When talking with them, you'd think there was little in life more important than drainage. I checked the work when finished and it looked to be done well and according to contract terms. We haven't gone through the rainy season yet, but I have no worries, particularly since they have a 10-year guarantee.
Description of Work: Bodine installed a complete drainage system in the crawlspace of a 5000 sq. foot house, including a catch basin and distribution PVC pipe with gravity flow to green belt area. Also installed 6 vent wells, fixed several downspouts, and put in a new vapor barrier.

When we bid on the house we recently moved in to, it had three inches of water in the crawl space, which the seller didn’t know. So we had to fix the crawl space. We didn’t have to pay for that. The inspector who inspected our house, recommended Bodine Construction Company to us. It turned out that even the seller of the house, chose Bodine Construction Company, without letting us know and we were very glad about that. They weren’t the cheapest place around. When they came to do the job, they dug up quite a bit of the drainage system and replaced things. They had a little machine that went through the pipes and worked for weeks. They really did what seemed to be a thorough job. There was a sidewalk that was tilted the wrong way towards the house on the uphill side and they were supposed to take that out and replace it. We told them not to do that. Instead we asked them to take it out and put gravel there. So, they put the gravel and a nice attractive drainage thing without any input from us. They put treated wood between the flower beds and along the walks beside the house. They did a very neat job of that. We were present for a part of the job. They acknowledged the fact that we were the new owners and they let us see how they worked. They were very good about it. Later we had to go away for moving in the things from our old house to the new one. By then it had rained heavily and the dirt they dug had settled some more. So, they came back and filled that back to the level it should have been. They were very thorough with that. It has 5 years warrantee. So, we wouldn’t be able to comment on the job they did until the winter arrives. We are very impressed with them and think they are good.

I found them on Angie's List. They did a very good job and I was very happy with their quality of service. The price was a little high, but I got what I paid for.
Description of Work: I hired them to repair the retaining wall.
