Malone's Landscape Design/Build

Everything was pain free from start to finish. Workmen showed up first day and took out shrubs and 3 trees. They they took out the walkway and the porch. Tim Glass our contractor designed a new drain system and porch and walkway. The workers dug lots of dirt out and installed a new drain system. They then prepared the courtyard and porch area for tiles. Tiles went in and porch was built. Tim was there checking everything and answering questions every other day. We also had access to him through email and phone. Time was very clear with us on what he and the workmen were doing and the reasoning behind it. I have had lots of work done on my house and have to say this was the first project that did not have me stressing out.

Jim's crew showed up on time, and worked until the job was complete. They were tidy and extremely organized. Thanks again, Malone's Landscaping!

No response at all after the first call and when I called back again I was told the warranty on that work was expired (for about 1 month). However, my understanding is that such a system needs more time (especially the whole raining winter) to test its quality. I asked them if they can at least find a way to do some simple test of the system. Never heard back from them. To me, this is a very unprofessional and irresponsible company.

The only glitch was the initial project manager left. I am sure he was fine, but Amber is a diamond!! I would give her the opportunity to do her artistic "thing" as the outcome will be excellant.

An old railroad tie retaining wall was removed and replaced with concrete block. They were prompt and had the project completed within 1 week. The weather was freezing cold but the team showed up everyday. Everything was done by hand to keep from having to move the shed in the yard. The work was done with a minimum of mess and everything was cleaned up when they were finished. There was not any evidence that this major project had disrupted anything, including my plantings, when they were finished. The workers were very professional and kept me informed every step of the way. I would definitely use them again. The neighbors and I are very pleased with how the project turned out.

The job went fabulous! I met with Tim to go over what I would like and his ideas as to what he thought would work with my ideas. Then he sent me detailed architectural drawings and pictures of the plants he would like to use for the front yard. We made a few changes and then went ahead with the plan. His plan was amazing and way beyond my expectations! The job started on time and took only a few days from start to finish! The workers were always hardworking, courteous and polite. Everyone involved wanted to please the customer at all times. I really appreciated this and it was as it always should be but is not with all companies. When they were finished, Tim came to the house to give me a care packet and go over the final details of the project. All in all I couldn't have asked for anything more from Malone's Landscaping and their employees! I would recommend them to anyone needing landscaping and they provide many other services as well! Tim, the supervisor of the job, did an excellent job of advising the design of the driveway and what was possible. He met with me at the paver supplier and assisted with the selection of the color of the pavers. His crew was prompt and very knowledgable in the process of preparing the foundation for the pavers as well as setting them in place. They were very hard-working and did the job with minimal disruption to the use of the drive. They cleaned up everything when done and we are very pleased with the result. Tim was always available by phone for any discussion along the way, and came by frequently during the 5 day installation to check on progress. I would highly recommend this company.

A very well planned and efficient installation with beautiful results. All work was completed in 2-3 weeks.

I could not have been more impressed or satisfied with the work performed by Malones. Tim Glass, the designer on the project, was conscientious, took action on my requests, communicated effectively and followed up on questions. He invested a significant amount of time with me on the up front design even before I'd committed the work to Malones. He provided references in my neighborhood (which I checked and were stellar) and showed me a portfolio of his work to assist with my decision-making. Once I selected Malones, the process went extremely smoothly--thanks in large part to the detailed planning put in up front by Tim. The crew was equally as professional. They showed up on time and cleaned up prior to leaving each day. The entire job did not disrupt the use of our home. One example of customer focus was when the crew proposed to make a rock retaining wall in place of an old wood one not originally scoped into the project. This was done at no charge because it was a win-win for me and them not to backhaul the rocks off of the property. At my request, Malones also repurposed flagstone from an existing patio and integrated it into the design seamlessly. Last, Tim investigated permitting and sub-contracted removal of a mature, leaning alder tree that could have posed a threat to our home. This was something that I'd been meaning to do and Tim took the initiative to get it done. The pricing from Malones was at the high end of estimates (4) that I received. I did rate them an "A" on price largely because they delivered on value. You do really get what you pay for! I will use Malones for maintenance and future projects based on my satisfaction with their work. They delivered on time, a critical factor for me since I left for six weeks the day after the final walk-thru, and on budget.

After the initial meeting Tim Glass came back with a drawing that was exactly what was in our mind when we envisioned the back yard. He designed our back yard as you would a room addition and when the crew came the work was carried out quickly (they were a week faster than originally quoted) and the results were exactly what we had planned. We adjusted some ideas in the middle of the work and it was no problem, Tim relayed the information and it was taken care of immediately. We are having them back to add more to the back yard and start on the front yard this fall. Malone's in the company you want to go with if you want professional, timely and excellent work.

They are very professional, well prepared and very personable. I would rate them high overall. They are very responsive. I would continue to use them in the future.

They did a good job. I liked the representative who came out. They seemed very responsive. He was very noninvasive, nothing happened to the house while they were working. One of the trees died and it took them a long time to get out and take care of that. I would not use them again.

They were working with put architect. The lady from this company came and did a survey and gave us a quote first. They were excellent to work with. They did a superb job. They told us that we can call them if needed anything to changed or fixed. I feel they were really discussed of what I needed. I rate them high. I think their price was fair. They were very responsive and good in corresponding. They really kept track of everything and there was nothing we did not know about. They were very punctual as well. I will definitely use them again in the future.

Tim was great. I got the impression that these folks are real pros and I will call them again for consideration on my next project.

They work was excellent. They really know their plans and how to do great designs. They really listen to their customer. They tailor the project to your budget. They did a great job. I would use them again in future.

My experience with them was far and above superior. I worked mostly with designer Tim Glass, who is very knowledgeable, amicable and precise. Everything they promised to do they did and more. They were always on time, followed through and stuck to their budget. I had hired two landscapers before them, A-1 Quick landscaping of Sumner, Wa and Paul Ortiz, Paul and Sons landscaping of Spanaway, WA who were both horrible in their service. Paul Ortiz in particular is overpriced, rude, steals tools and takes money without completing the work. He and his team were also suspected of vandalizing the sprinkler system they installed, then charging me to repair the damage. It was 180 degrees difference with Malone's landscaping. They are licensed, bonded and registered contractors. They have been doing business for years and make a point of keeping to their word so as to maintain their superior reputation. Even after they finish the job, you can also call them to ask questions about maintenance and plant care. I highly recommend them to anyone, and would rehire them to do more jobs for me.

The job went pretty well. It was kind of a rush job because we were fixing our house to sell. We had them replace some sods and remove some trees and replace them. They were good. He fitted into our budget and tried hard to stick to it.

Totally excellent. They exceeded my expectations by providing finish details not included in their bid.

The project came in on budget but took about a week longer than the original estimate due to difficulty getting materials. The results are absolutely fabulous.

Jim is strongly service-oriented, a great communicator and possesses tons of knowledge about landscaping that he explains in simple terms for those of us who are clueless. They were very patient through the endless spring rains and took advantage of every opportunity to move the project forward. When it was completed, the results were breathtaking. They've since come by to help guide us through caring for the plants. Great company.

I think this company probably does a very good job with regular landscaping projects but I don't think they really understood this kind of project and how it should be done properly. We sought out a professional as opposed to trying to tackle this ourselves but now that we have learned more about the system, we know this could have been done much, much better. Of the 44 pots on the deck, 2 are about 24" with very large permanent trees in them, 8 are in large pots 15" or so also with permanent shrubs in them, 21 medium size pots with seasonal herbs and flowers, 13 small 6" pots each with only one flower each. There were only 2 different size drippers used for this system so the small pots flooded and the large pots starved as they were all on the same valve [station] and had to use the same timimg. They should have installed 3 or 4 different valves for the different size pots so they could have been been programmed to run for different times depending on pot size. The pots were all in place when the system was installed so they knew what was going to be used and they should have taken this into consideration at the time. We have gone to Home Depot to replace all of the drippers from 1/2 gallon, 1 gallon, 2 gallon, 4 gallon, and adjustables of up to 10 gal. per hour to help compensate for this not being done properly to begin with. I live in Pinehurst, NC, and being an avid gardener, wanted to give my son and daughter-in-law a gift of landscaping when I came to visit them in Seattle. I joined Angie's list (Seattle) and contacted Jim Welnak of Malone's Landscape & Nursery. I can't say enough good things about Jim and his workers! First of all, Jim said he would work my project into his schedule when I was visiting Seattle. He went to the property, talked with my son and daughter-in-law, and they were very excited about his ideas for the unmanageable slope in their front yard. He was in contact with me by phone and email several times during the planning. On the day the project was scheduled to begin, everything went as he had described. His workers were excellent, very hard working and courteous young men who worked through a 93 degree heat wave and finished the job on time. Jim returned every day during the project to check on the work and make sure all was going as planned. The transformation is remarkable (all the neighbors have complimented us) and my son and daughter-in-law say they love it more every time they drive up to their house!

We have a large lot, but the backyard needed to be more functional and inviting. We saw Malone's Landscape and Design at the Home Show, and had seen positive feedback here. We met with Tim Glass, a Landscape Architect at Malone's, numerous times before starting the project, and he supervised the project all the way through. He was always available for questions and kept on top of the project. The workers were efficient and polite, and we were very pleased with the workmanship and professionalism of their team. Tim had great ideas for hardscape and landscape design and plantings, and was completely responsive to our ideas. He was able to discuss pros and cons of alternative materials for the hardscaping, and provided excellent resources to help in decision-making. The outcome is that our backyard now belongs in Sunset magazine, it is amazing. We have all of the features we wanted, and many features we would never have thought of ourselves but which we are already enjoying immensely. Our newly usable, beautiful, family-friendly, entertaining-friendly yard has really improved our home and the size of our living space. The process was low-stress for us, and the outcome is better than we had imagined. I would recommend Malone's to anyone, without hesitation.

We wanted our front yard to be completely redone. We had a particular idea in mind. They came up with a different idea. We did not want the design that they had proposed because it did not meet our needs. They quoted about $5000 for it. They were very congenial and very punctual. They did not want to communicate through e-mail or phone. They wanted to communicate only in person. That was a little bit difficult to co-ordinate. I like to use the e-mail but they did not like using it. They gave the quote fairly quickly; in about a week?s time.
