Malone's was top notch - they were the one company which provided us with an actual design for the renovation of our backyard. They also were very responsive and excellent in communication, Jim Welnak was a pleasure to work with. We met with them in May and they completed 90% of the project in time for 4th of July weekend. Project was finished in October, but this is because there was a delay in getting railing which we had special ordered. Their crew was professional, reliable and cleaned up after each day's work. The quality and workmanship of their work is Grade A. Maybe not the cheapest of those we considered, but often you get what you pay for. We would not hesitate to hire them again for our next outdoor renovation project!

Jessica Wickre, the landscape designer I worked with, is just super! She really knows her plants and takes the time to understand her client's objectives and needs. My existing landscape was starting to look a little drab and needed some invigorating with new plants, colors, and textures. Jessica explored the color palettes and plant options that would best meet my goals and the end result looks great. She kept me informed at every stage of my project and was onsite to supervise and ensure the crew understood what plants went where, including relocating existing plants. They also did some pruning of shrubs and removed branches from some overhanging trees to allow more sunlight to reach the plants. They performed a total clean up of all beds and laid fresh beauty bark throughout. I'm very happy with the outcome. I also plan to have Malone's come out in the spring to do a clean up from the fall and winter.

The pump was broken and the water levels needed to be regulated. I had to buy a new pump. I think the gentleman who does that particular work, who does the irrigation setup, evacuate your system in the winter, and then start it up in the spring, I think he knows what he is doing. I think he is a good guy. I think he might be overbooked. The one complaint that I would have about the company is the gal who does the scheduling. I had more problems trying to get this gentleman to come back to finish this job than you can imagine. The appointment was rescheduled a total of four times. I say four times because the fourth time is when he came when I was not expecting him to come. At the third appointment, was when I was on vacation the week of the 31st of July that first week of August. They were supposed to come and that appointment got rescheduled 3 times that week and I didn't even get a phone call the last time that they didn't show up and then he showed up when I was back to work. So, I don't know at what time of day then I got home one night last week and the fountain was running. So that is the one thing, I think the gal who does the scheduling is not on top of her game. That and I think that this poor gentleman is probably stretched too thin for what he has to do. That is my sense and, truth be told, I really liked the gal that I have been working with to re-design my landscape, her name is Jessica, I forget her last name. She is really good. knows her stuff has come up with some rally good ideas and plant selections but again noone has yet called me to schedule that work, that appointment. I know that Jessica told me that they could call me and get me on the schedule so it has been almost 2 weeks now. So, I am at the point where I am going to call and say I am on vacation this specific week in September. I want you to come during that time period so I can be here to monitor what goes on. I don't know if this gal is the owner's daughter or a relative or what. I think if she worked for anybody else she would have lost her job by now. Scheduling is not all that difficult. I don't think. That is the one thing I would say is a complaint to that company. When they do work, they do good work. I am happy with the work that is done, but I am not happy with the gal who schedules. They are a bit pricey, they are not the cheapest game in town. On quality, I do think they do good work so I would give them an A for quality. I have not been dissatisfied with their work. On responsiveness, they are going to get a good D on that, because that little gal really is not giving them a very good reputation in my mind. On punctuality I would give them an A, When I made appointments with Jessica, I dealt directly with her, she responded to my phone calls and she came on time. But again, I hate to grade the whole company for the actions of this one gal. So, lets do a C instead of a D for responsiveness. I wish this gal didn't exist in the equation. On professionalism, lets give them a B. She is really the one that's pulling this grade down. On using them again, it all depends on how this last project comes out because they are not the cheapest game in town. I think they do good work, but I saw others on your website too that I have on the ready to call, if things don't work out here scheduling this next project. So at this point, yes, I would use them again but that can change if this doesn't go the way it should.

Over a year after initial installation of new lawn our "showcase" lawn is full or dry patches, and we're not talking little patches here and there, we're talking large areas extending yards long and feet wide. Malone's advice, throw down more seed and water, which we've already done on multiple occasions. Malone's idea of a lawn installation is arrate the old lawn, about 9 yards of dirt tossed atound by a couple of laborers who also topped off the dirt wth a little sand before throwing around some grass seed. I've discussed the matter with Malone's personnel, showed their rep the yard and all he did was ask if we've been watering. When I pointed out that all the other gardens, plants and yard sections were green and verdant, he admitted he knew this past year has been the wettest on record and promised they'd get back to me. That was a month ago. My laen still looks like crap, I'm out $7000, and my just installed landscape berm is now revealing itself to be grossly over-planted and disheveled in appearance - wr've yet to receive guidance as the care and maintenance of the plants Malone's installed. I got the pond repaired this year by a different company for an additional $1,500. Malone's kept the $600 I paid them a year ago last March even though their "guy" didn't solve the problem.

I left a request for information on the website almost two weeks ago with a follow phone call the next day. I was told someone would contact me the following week. At the end of the following week, I contacted again. They told me they were so busy and unable to tell me when someone would contact me. Per the website, the work they do looks beautiful. Based off my experience and similar ones described on this site, they can be selective on what projects they work on.

The work went very well. The crew of 3 men were very punctual, respectful and professional. They worked diligently and efficiently to execute the contracted tasks. They actually installed 2 extra irrigation zones and didn't charge me above the contracted amount. They also did a great job cleaning up as we had experienced 2 very windy heavy downpours of rain in the days leading up to the start of their work. Not only was their work top quality, but they left my place looking great. You couldn't even tell they had dug up trenches for the irrigation pipes. It took them 3 days to complete the job. Of course I haven't used the system yet, but when spring comes I'll have Malone's Landscape come back to start the system and give me a tutorial. I want to thank David Ripley of Malone's Landscape for providing me with great service and for ensuring a job well done.

I'm unsure where to start this review. The project was completed 3+ months late, required considerable oversight and a number of elements remain unfinished. I engaged Malone Landscaping in July with the understanding that the company could complete the job in 5 weeks. The project started at the end of August but was not completed until November. The delay was caused by Malone selecting an unreliable stone company and rework to key elements of the project. The stone company shipped the stone late and missed a portion of the order. The reword included replacing the coping 3 times, rebuilding elements of the fence, leveling the front yard per original requirements and numerous smaller elements. The project manager for the project was infrequently onsite. I had to repeatedly call and email the team to remind them of outstanding work for the project ? fix the fence, add sand to the path, etc... I also had to act as the quality control for the project as the team rarely identified issues on their own. I estimate that I invested 20+ hours supporting this project. Despite diligently detailing the outstanding issues with the project there were a number of issues that were never fixed. The crew never drilled holes in the bottom of the gates to ensure the rain would not pool and rot the fence. The corners were the top rail of the fence met were not sanded to ensure a smooth transition. The dead grass where the crewed stored the plants was not replaced. The front gate does not close properly even after 2 attempts by the crew. What really disappointed me was the absentee owner. I attempted to engage him multiple times (phone and email) to alert him to delays and issues with the project. He never responded to my attempts and I only heard from him when he emailed to ask about the final check. I?m sure you?ll agree that this is not the best approach to running a business. Feel free to email me with any questions. Thank you, Andy P******

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback on the recent project my team completed for you. I have to say we were surprised and disappointed at the review since project was completed mid November. You told our Landscape Architect you were pleased with your landscape, and were sending final payment. Since then a month has gone by and payment has not been received. I personally reached out to you last week and you had no issues and apologized for not sending payment and would do so right away. As the owner, I am involved with my team on all projects and they have addressed every concern you have had along the way as well as replacing special order items at significant cost to us that you picked out but did not like once they were installed. These things happen and we are always happy to make changes or rework things along the way to ensure your satisfaction. We take pride in our work and have gone above and beyond to address any and all or your concerns. Our company has been in business for over 24 years and we have thousands of happy clients who continue to use us and refer us to friends and family because they trust us and know we are dedicated to them. We stand behind our work and we will continue be here if you have any warranty issues once your final payment has been received. We do appreciate the feedback and will always strive to make improvements in our company.

Jim Malone responded to our request for an estimate. It did take about a week to get the estimate back to us after he came out and assessed the job. Jim the owner is very pleasant, I just didn't have as good of an experience with the designer. They were the only company, out of four, that wouldn't provide refrences on their work, indicating it was against their policy. They were going to charge me $100/hour with a 2 hour minimum just to come out to review the estimate/design plans.

The rep (David I believe) was a nice man. Malone's most definitely understands landscaping and their work is beautiful. I originally called for a quote. He said he would do a landscape design, and offered it for no cost. I offered to pay for it because to me if the job wasn't going to be taken, I didn't want them to wast their time. He said he would spend 2-3 hours at what I remember to be $75/hour. They came back with a very nice looking design, however asked for a payment of $550 for it. Considerably more (considering the first take was free) than discussed. I mentioned the Angie's list discount, and they knocked it down to $450. Frankly, I think this is a fair price for what we received. But that is where it ends... The quote for landscaping - practically no construction - was $28,500. What does this include? Primarily plant removal and new plants. Yes we have some large shrubbs that need to be removed, however I have received subsequent quotes for that piece and can do it for $1200. They also offered to install a nice rockery - approximately 8ish large stones. I'm pretty sure I can get any rockery to deliver and install for $2000. So, in essense I am left with plants - for the low low price of $25,300. Put it this way - I took the design they gave me and planted the front beds for drum roll.....$200. Apparently they have hired Nobel Laureates to do their planting, and are importing the plants from far off places. Perhaps it was the fact that I had come home from work in a suit and therefore have a target on my forehead but this quote was ridiculous. I would maybe pay half that amount. This is Seattle, and there are plenty of folks who don't balk at paying whatever for good work. For the rest of us that actually pay attention, be advised.

Thank you for your review, we appreciate our clients taking the time to let us know how they feel. We pride ourselves in providing excellent services while staying competitive in the market place and we have the best pricing from our suppliers and crews who are experienced and skilled at their jobs. Your project was quite a large planting plan including removal and replacement of an existing large hedge with over 50 shrubs 6-7' tall, renovation of your front yard and replanting with over 90 shrubs of various sizes, and the renovation of your back yard including over 260 plants as well as soil, irrigation repair, very large 4 man boulders, and labor. We feel our bid was fair and accurate based on the plan we provided and the quantities and sizes depicted and we are sorry that it was more than you expected. more particules for absorption in the grass. No charge. He said Malone's wanted us to be happy and that they stand by their work. We are so happy with Malone's and will use them again when we do the next phase of our landscaping project! They are wonderful, stand by their work, and are very easy to deal with! Description of Work: Mike from Malone's came by to look over our drainage problem in our back yard. He also looked to see a decorate way to enlarge our patio. Mike is great! He was always accessible, came when he was expected, and was really interested in our project. When we agreed on a price, he arranged the crew and time. The crew came and did a phenomenal job on the drainage system with new science drainage. They enlarged our patio with paving bricks to help us save money instead of completely replacing it. After the modifications, they seeded the yard and put down an absorbing particle which helps against the water retention problem. A couple of months ago, about a year after the work, we found the left side of the patio was sinking a little and that there was still a little too much "mush" in the yard after a rain. We called Mike, he came over, and agreed that there was more to do! He sent a crew over to reset that corner of the patio and they put down

We chose Malone because of their reviews on Angie's list. In the end the yard and fence are very beautiful. There were some hiccups along the way and some of those were caused by us and some by Malone. The worst thing was feeling that our job was not important enough, the times there were delays in communication to us or getting work done were, we were told, because they got behind, meaning that other projects were being worked on and ours was not because it wasn't important enough (we were never told this, it is just how it made us feel). So the problems we had were NOT to do with the work that was done, it was mostly mis-communication and paperwork issues. That being said, the work is beautiful. The yard is as promised and on budget. The fence is exactly as layed out by our HOA (and Malone went above and beyond to find out the exact paint stain to match the neighborhood fencing). We were left with a little of a bad taste at right at the end though, we made the final payment with the expectation that they would promptly come back regarding a couple of issues and they didn't, we had to call to get them back out again (with the we are behind apology again), but they did come back and resolve everything right away after I called. We would recommend Malone for their work.

Description of Work: I called Malone's on 3/18/2013, I waited 20 minutes on an automated phone service, and finaly got a live person. She took down the informaton for estimate and then said they were really busy so it may be a few days. After all that time had passed, I figured they were not really interested in my business.

Approximately the middle of August, Malone's Landscaping sent out a crew to began work on phase one of the landscaping project. This consisted of leveling the ground for a shed, initial work on the sprinkler system and trimming the trees and removing unwanted shrubs and a tree stump. The crew arrived at the appointed time and began work. They were very professional and knowledgeable in there work. I must also add that they were hard working and kept me informed about how the project was going and offered some recommendations on the project. In November the crew came back to do phase two of the project. This consisted of removing sod and working on the sprinkler system. Also they shaped the yard in accordance with the design and prepared the yard for the flower beds and trees and vegetable garden. They also spread the yard with weed killer and control. They added fine bark and Steeco to the flower beds. Phase one and two of my landscaping project went very well. I am thoroughly satisfied with the work that was performed by Malone Landscaping. Mr Jim Welnak my contract specialist communicated with me through out the first two phases keeping me up to date of everything that was supposed to be done and scheduling the work. I am looking forward to working with the Malone Landscape and Design company and Jim in particular this Spring on phase three of my landscape project. It has really been very enjoyable working with Jim and his crew.
Description of Work: I needed a complete make over of my yard including repairing the sprinkler system. Also I needed the ground leveled so that I could have a shed built. I needed three trees trimmed and cut back. There were shrubs and plants that I needed removed and a tree stump removed. The work is to be done in three phases. So far phase 1 & 2 has been completed. Phase three which is the planting of grass, trees and flowers will be in the Spring.
Working with Malone's was fantastic. Mike J provided a very detailed landscape plan for our backyard and met both our design and budget expectations. He was with us for every step of the project and we cannot say enough about how great he was to work with. The only downside was that we started in the spring and they were incredibly busy - it took about the whole summer to complete the project, but it was worth it. We ran into some issues with our deck and needing to redo some flashing next to the house, but they took care of it no problem. they continue to provide lawn maintenance advice and are very knowledgeable. They stand behind their work and produce a great product.
Description of Work: Malone's completely redid our backyard including landscaping, retaining wall, decks, and stonework.

Mike Johnson from Malone's came by to discuss our needs and give us a bid. He was very knowledgeable about hardscape, plants, etc. and had a lot of creative input. One of the things that impressed us the most was he took pictures of various spot of our property and, using some sort of landscape computer program, e-mailed us those pics showing what the work would look like after completion. This was extremely helpful as my wife and I were having trouble visualizing the changes. Punctual, professional and energetic there was only one thing that kept us from choosing him. Price! We found another contractor, Fun Yards, who did the same work for $6,000 less than Malone's.
Description of Work: This was quite an extensive job as I needed several landscaping issues taken care of. I wanted a poorly installed rock wall that went down our driveway removed and the rock transferred to the back yard for another project. The rock wall never had landscape fabric installed behind it and so dirt, bark and rocks were constantly "leaking" onto the driveway! We decided to have a new wall built out of Mutual Material's Manorstone in a beautiful Northwest Blend color. I then needed all the 4 by 4 landscape timbers that I had installed 20+ years ago and were rotten removed and also replaced with the Manorstone. This included the borders for planting beds in front and down one side of house as well as a large circle around a tree. We have always had problems growing grass directly in front of our home due to shade and poor soil and wanted a sand and paver patio installed there with a decorative circle in the middle. We wanted a retaining wall built in the backyard, using the stone from the front, to follow the contours of a recently poured patio and lots of topsoil brought in to fill low areas that became small ponds during heavy rains. Lastly, I needed a drainage system installed underground for two downspouts that handle about 3/4 of the rain on the roof.

I took three weeks to schedule an appointment for an estimate, and not because they were busy but because Jim Malone was not able to answer email for multiple days. One day my husband gets a phone call saying that Jim's waiting for us at our house to do our estimate - we had never agreed to a day/time. There had been one suggestion (not the time he'd shown up) which wasn't yet confirmed. We finally got him out to do an estimate and the price he quoted sounded good. He told me he'd get back to me with some images of work that would be in line with what we're looking for, and it's now ten days later and I haven't heard back, even after a reminder email four days ago. I would've gone with this company based on how Jim did in person and the price, but if I don't know when/if he's going to talk to me or show up, I can't risk it.
