Excellent work. Attention to detail was impressive. Clean and efficient work, no complaints. David provided us with the option of having him seal the tile or leaving us with the sealer so we could do it ourselves (saving $100). I plan to use his services again for future projects.

Description of Work: For our basement remodel Dave came and tiled a floor to ceiling fireplace wall. The tiles were big 4 ft by 2 ft pieces and he did a great job installing them. We also decided to tile our entire basement floor which was a partial change request half way through the job and Dave was very accommodating.

We were flexible on changing the start-up date and the length of time needed to complete the job Dave was very busy! As seniors we were given a 10% discount on labor, which was very much appreciated. Dave did a great job for us. We would definitely recommend Newman Tile & Stone!
Description of Work: An old shower needed a new cement pan, incuding replacement of the wood frame to hold it. New 2x2 floor tiles were layed in the pan and 4x4 wall tile was installed 18" up the side walls, backed by cement board. The tiles were white and looked great with the old yellow tiles above that we didn't want replaced. There was an area on a divider-wall on the outer side of the shower area that needed some sheetrock replaced; it was taped and sanded, ready for painting as requested.

They were very responsive in coming out and giving us a quote. They had some good ideas about how to deal with complications we had, but when it came to actually centring the tiling, it was quite challenging. They contempt three different times on me and each time I decided to take them off work and then they would come, so that was problematic for me. Also, during tiling, they put the tiles in wrong order, so they had to redo it. End product is perfect and beautiful, it looks great. There were miscommunication problems.

The job looks great. They left the site clean each day and did a nice job with the tile design. Dave was always reachable by cell phone. The only downside was they said the job would be finished on Wednesday and it wasn't done until Friday afternoon. Overall I would hire them again but either nail down a finish date or just be a little more flexible on my part.
Description of Work: Dave and his crew installed a shower into a tub space. This included moving the plumbing, installing cement board, waterproofing, making a cubby for shampoo and such, pouring a shower pan and installing all tile and grout.

The master bath and attached closet in the home we had just moved into had 16 year old white (-ish) carpet that I wanted pulled up and replaced with tile. That's all I originally wanted, but then after a while, I wanted a new shower stall, tub, toilet, counters, sinks, faucets, exhaust fans, heated flooring, etc. Dave was very patient with my endless questions, pictures, design ideas and changes, and indecisiveness. He was very accommodating and did everything that I wanted perfectly. By the end of the project, we had the following done: - retile large master bath and closet- remove old triangular tub and fixtures- remove old box-store style shower stall with rickety sliding shower door and fixtures- coordinated with plumber to reroute the plumbing so that the shower and tub can switch places. - finalized the plan with me and communicated it to his team. - installed, once the flooring was done, they got busy on the tub surround and shower stall, which was all tiled. The floor inside the shower is made of 1" tile squares, no plastic or fiber glass pan. He put in a recessed niche for shampoo and ledge on one side and a bench on the other. - they also installed a water saver toilet and helped put me in contact with custom shower door vendors. A few weeks after he finished the master bathroom, he came back and retiled our kids' bathroom (floor and tub surround with recessed niche for shampoo), installed a new tub faucet and shower valve and head. We didn't want both bathrooms done at the same time because we needed to have one available for us to use. He and his crew were very professional, respectul of our home, and tolerated our three very curious toddlers well. Everything was nice and tidy after each work day. The end result for both bathrooms is fabulous! We love how everything turned out. I got the impression that they were thorough and careful, not rushing which often ends up causing errors and poor workmanship. Every tile is lined up perfectly. I know it was a challenge because the subfloor was less than ideal with some fairly steep sloping in a few areas. They used their expertise to make it work. I never got two quotes for the exact same job since it was ever evolving (thanks to Pinterest), but we had a general idea that we were getting a better than fair price. I had been given glowing reviews about his pricing and workmanship from friends who had their bathrooms redone. After attempting a DIY tile project ourselves, we quickly realized that laying tile is truly back-breaking work, difficult to get everything lined up pretty and level, and worth every penny to get it done right (especially in the bathroom where is always a lot of moisture present). I guess like any business, a sign of great service is repeat customers and lots of referrals. I will always tell people to call Dave Newman for tile and I'll definitely be calling Dave when I get ready to redo the kitchen so that he can do the tile backsplash!

Description of Work: David and his crew just finished tiling two bathrooms in my home. They were here when they said they would be, worked quickly completeing the job when they said they would. They work clean, my house was put in order each night before they left. I would recommend them highly. The tile looks great . They have great attention to detail, cutting down a curb to my walk in shower make it easier for me to use. Installed an antique cabinet in one bathroom cutting small amounts off each leg bringing it to a better hight for me to use. Good communicators, offered suggestions to better show off the tile. I am so pleased with the work they did in both my bathrooms.

It took me a while to make my mind, because there were two providers of the list because they were very similar, and I just decided on Newman because I liked the way his estimate came in. It was more thorough, and when I talked to him, he assured me that there would be no extras until I decided to change something, his estimate came as cut and stone, I liked the way he talked about it, and I liked the idea he gave me to make some changes, that I would not have thought about myself. I thought he was very professional, he told me that he would be here a certain day and he was not, so I waited till the end of the week, and I sent him an e-mail, asking him if he really wanted the job or not, then I got the estimate back almost immediately.

Appreciate your feedback. While I do my best to be on-time and available for all clients and potential clients, sometimes it’s not always possible. On this particular day there was a material shortage and I was attempting to sort it out with my current clients so that they could have their job completed before they had some out of town guest. I apologize for being late and unable to accommodate your scheduling.

Dave and crew did the demo of the 3" thick slate/cement/wire in our home near Children's Hospital. We considered doing it ourselves but quickly realized we were in over our heads. They did a terrific job hauling the debris away and cleaning up the job site each day. New cement then needed to be installed to fill up the 3" gap. They did a great job getting the level of the floor accurate. Then the artwork began with Vincent laying the floor tile. He's a master craftsman and was very meticulous every step of the way. The angles in the entry of our home are tricky and Vincent actually preferred & recommended doing the more complex windmill pattern over a simpler brick pattern we were considering. It was obviously more work for him but he knew it would look better. We chose a polished version of the floor tile for the tub surround using a glass accent at the top of the tub and behind the mirror. Dave suggested having the mirror installed first and then he would come back to install the glass accent tile. That proved to be the best advice as now it looks seamless. The grooves in the floor tile proved to be a great collecting spot for the grout and resulted in a haze that needed to be addressed. Dave & Gary were good sports using an acid wash and brush to clean the grooves, minus the groaning I expected to hear! They even offered to pour the solution on the entry sidewalk brushing off the moss and grime--going the extra mile to please the customer. I was not expecting to purchase the tile myself but found out from tile companies that more and more contractors are handling it this way now. Dave measured and gave me the square footage needed, I ordered & paid for the tile, and he picked it up. It worked out fine. When we came up slightly short on tile, Dave and Vincent offered to pick up the extra tile which was very appreciated. I would highly recommend Dave and his crew and will use them in the future. Vincent is a master artist with tile and it shows.
Description of Work: Our 1952 home needed new tile flooring to replace the original green slate in the entry and hallway & new bathroom tile to replace the 6" pink tile in the tub/shower surround & mosaic tile on the floor.

November 28, 2011 David Newman did an expert job installing polished porcelain tile with Laticrete Spectralock Pro, (epoxy grout) on 250 ft. of master bathroom floor, shower and walk in closet. (I was extremely apprehensive about this job because the tile company I hired 6 weeks before totally messed up both the tile and grout to the extent that they had to remove all 250 Sq. feet of tile and give me my money back?.a NIGHTMARE!) David?s bid was in line with 2 other bids I received. David patiently explained installation processes to me and answered my questions. David and his work crew are very professional and courteous. They took great care with my furniture and floors, working quietly and quickly, and communicating their work schedule, arrival, and departure times. He also went out of his way to save me some money by calling around and getting the best price he could find on the tile. I had some ideas about design, but after talking these through with David, we decided they would not work with the materials I had chosen and he suggested some other ideas. It?s great to have a tile setting professional who is proactive, intelligent, and thinks through the job from start to finish, suggesting options. The cost was $5337.91 before tax, not including tile, which I purchased separately after David found the best price, placed the order for me, and had it delivered. The overall job turned out beautifully! Thank you David and crew for being the top-notch professionals you are!

We were very pleased with the quality of work done on our kitchen backsplash. He came when he said he would, installed the tiles exactly as I had requested and mad it work even when it looked to me like we could run short. Spent the time it took to cut a narrow strip so that the tile went completely to the bottom of the cabinets. Was patient in answering all of our questions.

Dave did an excellent job! Very professional - reasonable and accurate estimates. Always helpful in providing options for the best path forward.
Description of Work: Dave completed 3 projects for us. Kitchen floor - had been taken down to original flooring in our 1925 house. He put a layer of mortar, cement board, installed radiant heat and then installed 12x12 tile. Bathroom Floor - prepped the floor, installed radiant heat and installed 1" hex tile. He had to fight against out of square walls but made it look great. Shower Surround - Dave prepped the wall, built in a large shelf and finished with subway tile

Excellent. We were out of the country while he performed his work and Dave sent any questions/concerns via e-mail and did an excellent job at a reasonable price.
Description of Work: We worked with Dave Newman on a small DIY bathroom remodel. He installed a subway tile shower and Italian ceramic floor tiles over a heated concrete surface. His prices were reasonable and his work was excellent. Dave was INCREDIBLY easy to work with and he even completed our entire bathroom while we were out of the country. We supplied the tiles and made arrangements for Dave to access our home, and when we got home - Woila - there was a new bathroom.

I chose Dave Newman because of the positive reports filed on Angie's List. I was not disappointed! Dave was absolutely professional throughout the process of remodeling my bathrooms, despite my changing my mind several times about what I wanted and despite delays by other individuals providing services. He was prompt in contacting me, went out of his way to be accomodating, was more than fair in pricing, performed services beyond what I had hired him for and didn't raise the price for doing so, was friendly, and most importantly, did a fantastic job! I had trouble obtaining backsplash and sidesplashes for my sink and did not get them for months after he had completed the rest of the bathrooms. He took time to drive a long way to my house just to install them for me and did not want to charge me for his time. He is very fast but is a perfectionist at the same time and his work was outstanding. I would recommend him to anyone and wish he was a general contractor so I could hire him to do additional remodeling for me! Hiring Dave was the best decision I could have made.

The job went well, Dave kept in touch as to our agreed start date. This was critical, as a heavy washer/dryer had a hard stop install date. The job was completed on time, and Dave brought an assistant to act as a runner, to bring the tile from the cutter machine on the basement floor of the condo. We had an unexpected issue with material, and Dave provided alternatives to fix the problem. He came back to make it right, even tough the caulk material problem was not his. Thanks Dave.
Description of Work: Install bathroom floor tile and baseboard, and a different tile around the tub. I provided the tiling.
Dave did an excellent job on the project. The floor pattern was fairly complex, a combination of marble mosaics and 2 custom borders. During the installation, we discovered a few problems with the mosaic sheets; Dave worked through the problems and didn't haggle or "nickle & dime" over additional labor required to individually set small mosaic pieces or pre-prep the sheets. The wall tile was straight forward and he did a great job with that. He was considerate of the house and careful about debris, clean up, etc. Very professional. I'd highly recommend him.
Description of Work: As part of a bathroom renovation, Dave installed cement board for the subfloor, installed marble mosaic tiles and trim pieces on the floor and ceramic tiles on the walls.
