We are a family owned company specializing in earthquake retrofits for homes. We help make sure that your home and family are earthquake safe. We believe that your home should be the safest place, and with over 40 years of combined experience,

"Amazing work, results, and communication. James and Sam undertook a large project for a good price. When the city inspector came (requires two occasions), I was present, and was able to follow along with the work that was done and that it was done correctly. They were careful to cover up my items in the garage to protect them from dust. They offered to add insulation in my garage walls at no extra cost- now my garage is a lot warmer as well (nice bonus), and they had gone and retrieved all of the insulation. I regularly talked with James throughout and he always addressed any concerns or questions. For example, there were small gaps in the exterior walls in a few places, and he caulked those for me before boarding up the walls. When a few nails went through to the exterior, he took the time to get the color match and fully fix the problem. He provided me with all project documentation after it was completed, and filled out my Geico form for the insurance discount."

Evergreen Seismic, LLC is the Puget Sound's most trustworthy residential earthquake retrofit contractor. Our mission is to provide the highest quality of service, along with the most affordable prices. We take great pride in our work, and customer safety and satisfaction is our number one goal. Our clients demand and deserve excellence and we are committed to meet these expectations each and every time. We offer the experience of hundreds of retrofit installations, along with the highest quality products, valuable design and engineering, and stellar results.

"Matt and the Evergreen Seismic team were communicative, honest, and collaborative throughout our retrofit. When I reached out initially, he helped me learn about the retrofit process, and even encouraged me to consider doing it myself. I really appreciated that — it'd be so easy for a professional in his position to scare a client into getting the work done, but he did the opposite. He also gave us a competitive quote, and offered to match any other we got elsewhere. I ultimately decided to hire him, and was glad I did. He and his team got the work done in a timely and orderly fashion. Our foundation turned out to be a little unusual, which took more time than anticipated, but he walked us through what they were doing to accommodate the difference, and did not ask for an additional fee for the extra time spent. They handled all the city permitting and mailed us the paperwork to keep on file."

The Al Lind Company has several employees. One, in particular, who specializes in seismic retrofitting homes that have never been or are improperly attached to their foundation. We expect payment weekly based on completion of work.

"Al Lind has deep knowledge and experience in both home inspection and construction. He assessed the situation, explained things thoroughly, and offered more than one solution. One big benefit: he shared the kind of insider knowledge that unknowledgeable people (like me) need to move forward with confidence."

Earthquake retrofitting services FAQs

Most earthquake retrofitting jobs take one week to 10 business days to complete. However, your professional retrofitting expert will be able to give you a more accurate timeline for your home once you complete an initial consultation. The total time may be longer for projects requiring more extensive work or homes with structural damage due to a prior earthquake.

You can expect to pay between $3,370 and $8,610 in earthquake retrofit costs, ranging from $500 to $15,000 or more, depending on your type of home and foundation and retrofitting method.

If you have a slab foundation, you can expect to pay on the lower end, between $500 and $3,000. If you have a wooden foundation, that cost jumps to $5,000 to $10,000. A hillside home, not as vulnerable to earthquake damage, typically costs between $5,000 to $10,000 to retrofit while a soft-story home ranges from $10,000 to $80,000.

It is not advisable to try to retrofit your home without the expertise of a professional. These projects usually require a consultation with a structural engineer and a plumber for any gas-related adjustments. Working with a professional earthquake retrofitting contractor is the best way to ensure that any structural work done to your home will help protect you and your family.

First, you can expect the project to be loud. If you have pets, you might want to take them to a friend's house during the day so they are not disturbed by any of the loud noises. In addition, you’ll need to provide the retrofit team access to areas of the house that will need to be worked on, meaning you’ll need to relocate personal items, clear clutter, and make pathways for the crew. Once the project is complete, a local building inspector will conduct a final inspection to ensure that the retrofitting is up to code.

Earthquake retrofitting can increase your home value, making it a great return on investment. This feature is especially valuable in areas prone to earthquakes. Besides the increased safety value (not only for your family but for the next family who moves in), earthquake retrofitting also helps lower homeowners insurance rates. In addition, having your home earthquake retrofitted can make it easier to get a home loan since they are considered lower risk.
