Dennis and Kaya were prompt and responsive in communicating and planning the project. The crew worked quickly and efficiently, thoroughly cleaning the yard when they were done. Everything was taken care in a way that exceeded our expectations.
Description of Work: We had some long overdue work that needed to be done in our yard. Dennis came over and did a complete walk through of our property offering various suggestions for the problem areas. We ended up having a number of projects done – replaced flower bed with new sod, cleaned out other flower beds in front yard and installed new beauty bark and flowers, created gravel path along both sides of house, removed overgrown wisteria along fence line and removed four small trees. NW Landscape Management has a year round lawn care and maintenance service which we are signed up for. We love it!

,See above They were there to do a fall landscape cleaning
Description of Work: I would have to look up the date and costs. We had an agreed upon time and they arrived prior to that time and I had another comittment so I arrived about 10 minutes before they were due to arrive and they were in my front yard and had desimated it. I was so horrified at what had been done in such a short period of time . They made a pom pom out of a bush (that is not the look I am going for) they cut down a 15 year old plant, they dug and removed costly plants. they really have no ability to discern a valuable plant and from a weed they were just clear cutting everything they cleared away purposeful ground cover flowering plants. I was horrified. I had to stop them and review exactly what I wanted where , had to identify that this was a plant, flower etc and not to whack it or kill it. I called the owners and reviewed what happened and they reimbursed me my money and gave me 3 small plants which was good but did not meet the costs of all of the plants they destroyed. They were professional in responding to my concerns. This was a terrible experience which makes me apprehensive about using businesses on Angie's List, I did my homework on this business and this was a very upsetting experience See below

Response from NW Landscape Management Inc
First of all, we would like to correct something posted here. The clean-up Big Deal coupon was $129.00, not $225.00 here indicated. And actually, we more than fully refunded the amount of the clean-up via check ($150.00) so this actually did not cost her anything. This work was done in response to a landscape clean-up per a Big Deal with Angie's List. Our crew arrived within the time-frame we set up with the homeowner, however, per her response she was not there. In our scheduling email, we did let the purchasers know that if they could not be there within the alloted time-frame, they could email a specific list of requests to us; however we did not receive this from her ahead of time. We performed over 100 of these clean-ups--some clients were there and some were not--since this Big Deal was sold as a specific time (a four hour clean-up) our crew started in on the clean-up as soon as they were on the property, which again, was within the time-frame we previously indicated. From our crew's perspective, this property was extremely over-grown, so they set to work with a typical clean-up and typical pruning; however, what they did not know was that the homeowner had specific plants that she didn't want pruned etc. Therefore the pruning which would have been acceptable to most people, was not what she wanted. In the midst of the clean-up, one of the crew members did accidently remove a clematis plant; once we found out, we were extremely apologetic and replaced the one plant with three clematis plants within two days of the original service. Unfortunately, with the Big Deal purchases, these clean-ups were sold as a general clean-up--with a homeowner wanting something more specific outside of general pruning etc., in hindsight, this would have been better if we could have known of her specifics before our crew arrived. We were extremely sorry about the plant, as this was undoubtedly our mistake; we did our best to make this right with the customer, including replacing the plant and completely refunding her money from this clean-up.

After making arrangements to meet at 4:00 (I went to work early to get off in time to meet him,) Korry was an hour late with no courtesy call. I called his cell with no answer, then called the office and they had to track him down. Once Korry got there he was very professional and gave me some helpful maintenance tips. Having an actual flashlight instead of using his cell phone for a light would have made Korry's job a lot easier. But then again, if he had been there on time he wouldn't have needed the flashlight.

This customer purchased a deal where we had our estimator come in and set up a demo LED lighting system, where the customer could see the product in action before any estimate was given. A lighting system is put in place and left over-night. We made the appointment promptly, and when our technician showed up, these people were not home. We promptly called (they made no apologies for missing the appointment) and made a second appointment, where we set up the lighting demo, and also provided an estimate. We feel that that we made every effort to provide the service we advertised, and feel this is an extremely unfair review of our business. Instead, the small amount we charged for this service, did not even cover our business costs to pay our technician to come out twice on a no-show appointment.

Description of Work: SOD THE FRONT BOTH SIDES OF DRIVE WAY. CREATED ROCK PATH THAT WENT TO BACK YARD ON BOTH SIDES. PLANTED BOXWOODS ON EITHER SIDE OF FIRE PLACE. (THEY BROUGHT IN DIRT AND ROCKS AND SOME BIG BOLDERS FOR ACCENT. THE FRONT LOOKS VERY NICE. THE BACK YARD WAS COMPLETELY HARDSCAPED WITH ROCKS AND FLAG STONE AROUND THE FIRE PIT. (THEY DIDN'T EXTIMATE THE RIGHT AMOUNT SO IT LOOKS A LITTLE OFF. (ITS OBLONG) . THEY ALSO DID NOT EXTIMATE THE ROCKS CORRECTLY EITHER. THEY RAN OUT AND USED TWO DIFFERENT KIND IN THE BACK YARD. IT LOOKS ODD TOO. THEY BROUGHT IN DIRT FOR THE GARDENS FOR 21 LITTLE BUSHES AND 3 HYDRANGES SOME ORNIMENTAL GRASSES. THEY JUST PLOPED THE DIRT IN LARGE MOUNDS AND STUCK THE BUSHES IN. THERE IS NOTHING TO KEEP THE DIRT IN THE GARDEN AREA AND THEY BANKED IT HIGH SO IT SPREDS INTO THE ROCKS...THEY DID FILL IN A DEEP DEPRESSION BETWEEN TWO LARGE FIR TREES. iTS A VERY STEEP BANK NOW AND ITS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET TO OUR FIRE WOOD THAT IS ALONG THE FENCE..Poor planning. It looks 100% better than it did, but for the money I wish they would have thought out the plan better for me. I really did not have time to oversee the project, and neither did my husband. I just wanted to hire someone to come in and fix it, and be done with it. They did say after the fact, that if I bought more flag stone they would set it and would also bring in more rock to blend in the two different kinds of gravel in the back yard. They also said they would take care of the weeds, I expected them to put week killer on them, They just used a propane torch and burned them a bit in the front yard and put the new sod over it all. It was a very fast job for them 3 days and they called it good. I give them a C+. I don't think it was their best work. I would suggest getting every detail they said they would do in writing and check it all off if you want to hire them.

The crew came and immediately got to work after going over the scope of work I wanted them to do. They raked leaves, trimmed bushes and trees, and removed and chipped one dead tree on our property. All the work was complete in a couple of hours and the crew left with our yard looking great. They took all their tree trimmings and yard debris with them as promised and I was very satisfied with their work. I would recommend them to anyone seeking similar landscaping and maintenance services.

They overtrimmed my rose which has recovered but it was a poor rose trimming job. They weeded out a couple of the flowerbeds that was done well. Response from NW Landscape Management Inc
We strive very hard to provide great service which our many other reports reflect. We are finding some inaccuracies within this report, which we would like to correct. First of all, this work was done in response to a Big Deal, which we ran in the fall of 2011. It was for a general landscape clean-up, with leaf and debris disposal from the clean-up. There was a stated limit as to how many coupons one person could purchase, however, this client purchased three coupons. We decided to go ahead and honor this, even though it meant a substantial amount of work at a discounted rate. Each client was given a window of time for the crew to arrive, and our crew did arrive within that time frame. Also, we let her know in a reminder email a few days in advance, that if she could not be there, she could leave a note with instructions for the crew. Also, the amount of clean-up time we provided was 12 man hours, not the 8 she indicated, and the cost was $387.00, not $600.00 As indicated in this report, we removed not only the debris from our clean-up work, but also substantial damage from the ice storm which occurred before the Big Deal ran, and which we provided at NO additional charge, even though it was outside of the work listed in the deal. As far as the rose pruning, it is common to prune back the roses quite a bit at this particular time of the year, and we do this so that they do grow better in the spring (which hers seems to be doing fine). We did a tremendous amount of work on this property, and for far less compensation than was indicated in this report.

The crew arrived on time and did an excellent job. There was however one issue with responsiveness when I initally contacted them to schedule an appt time after purchasing 2 Big Deal coupons for yard work. The deal was purchased in October after confirming that they did in fact service my area. But after notifying them that I had purchased the coupons and would like to make an apt it took several days and an additional email to get a response and then the earliest appt time was out a month and a half.

When Paul came to give the estimate, I made a point of the fact that the main things I wanted done were the sod and pea gravel removal. I stressed that several times and it was agreed that they would do so. These were at the top of the list on the estimate thay submitted. During the work, I noticed that the some of the grass was not being removed, It was just being turned over in place. LIkewise the pea gravel was not being taken away. I emailed the office to express my concerns and I received a prompt reply that the foreman, Paul, had been given the information. The same day I spoke to him about it and he assured me they were going to take care of it. Paul was always very pleasant and professional to deal with so I had no reason to think that there would be any problem. The crew always showed up for work, even in pouring rain, and the hardscaping items turned out great, fully meeting or exceeding my expectations. At the end of the project, Paul suggested top dressing with fine bark, which would cost over $1000.00, but complete the look. This I agreed to. When it was all finished, everything that I could see looked so great that I had no concern about the things I couldn't see.About a month later, I went to dig holes to plant some new shrubs in the area where the pea gravel had been. At that point I discovered, under the compost and bark, that the pea gravel was still there. I contacted the office to express my concern that the most important item on my list had not been done. Paul called right away and said they would come out and remove it. A few days later, when nothing seemed to have happened, I called Paul who said they had been out on Thursday and removed it, put down new soil and then more bark. However the pea gravel is most certainly still there today and the shrubs not planted yet. Under the new layer of bark things are the same. Meantime, when the weather warmed up, the sod that was turned, instead of being hauled away is now growing in thicker and lusher (thanks to the compost on it) than ever. This is the situation in an entire side yard. Paul, and Dusty were very nice to work with and the office staff very pleasant. However, I spent $12.000.00 on this job, and I am now going to be spending my summer digging up grass and getting rid of it, and digging up and hauling away buckets and buckets of pea gravel instead of enjoying what was to be my fabulous new landscape. Or paying someone else to do it when I already paid NW to do so. Update: July 19, 2010......I appreciate the response from NW Landscaping, however the only sod that was left was on hillsides where the sod cutter could not go. I myself saw one of their employees removing it in chunks with a maddox and leaving the chunks, despite my request to remove them. Some of the other grass showed no attempt to remove it whatsoever. When I subsequently worked there, about 2 weeks later, nothing had broken dormancy but I found the chunks there. The only grass that came up in any area was on these hillsides. Where the sod cutter had been used and the chunks removed, no grass has come up. When I tried to dig in the area of the pea gravel, I found in all cases, that the pea gravel was still there. It had been ro-tilled deeper and was even harder to remove. There was still so much pea gravel that by July nothing was growing there, no weeds, no grass, nothing. I was advised at the time of the work that these manual projects were done by the "maintenance crew" after they finished their other duties for the day. I was also told that they were the ones who had broken several limbs off a rhododendron when creating their own ramp through my rose garden. Someone watching their work described them as "bulls in a china shop". I would certainly not hire these individuals to "maintain" my yard. Nor do I use Round-Up as suggested by NW Landscaping due to its questionable impact on the environment. I have had no trouble maintaining the rest of the yard, where the work was done correctly. In the time since I initially wrote my review, I have paid someone else $700 to remove the pea gravel. This was an extensive project and required 5 pickup truck loads to remove, since the gravel was now mixed with dirt. I then had $240 worth of soil delivered, which I hauled into place myself. In the areas where the grass had not been removed, I hired a different landscaper to dig it out, which cost me $100. He confirmed that there was no indication the sod had been removed earlier in the spring. I did not initially mention, but will comment on now, that some of the crushed stone that was being hauled into place for pathways was spilled into the planting beds. It looked like the wheel barrow had tipped over at various times, leaving about a whole wheelbarrow load total. This did not end up on my pathways, and was another thing for me to dig out. As it was a blue-ish color, this would have been obvious when the bark was put over it. Also, the fact that I didn't submit my review for over a month doesn't mean that I didn't notice these problems sooner. I was waiting to review after I had a fuller idea of the situation. Again, I would like to add that Paul and Dusty were professional and efficient. The hardscaping turned out fine, for the most part. Due to the recent additional costs on my part to get this job finished, I still could not recommend NW Landscaping. I am still finishing up the work instead of enjoying my yard.
Description of Work: The work to be performed in our written agreement was: 1. removal of lawn from front yard (except one small area) one side yard and entire back yard. 2. removal of pea gravel/soil mix in an area where play equipment had been. 3. create pathways. 4. install outdoor lighting. 5. replace short wooden steps. 6. installation of new support structure for us to grow berries on. 7. run a conduit for additional electrical outlets in the back of the yard. 8. add topsoil and compost throughout yard. (they later also suggested a bark topdressing, which I agreed to) A few small additional items were added during the project.

We are sorry to see this, as we enjoyed working with this client; however, we feel that the issues she is now experiencing, are issues outside of our control, i.e, the growth of vegetation, and pertain to regular maintenance, which is not our responsibility once the installation work is completed. This customer stated that we left sod on the property and "turned it over." However, this is not true. We rented a sod cutter and removed all the sod from the jobsite, per the estimate. Both the foreman and the owner of the business were working on this jobsite and both confirmed that the sod was removed from the property. Also, we removed as much pea gravel as physically possible, with a small amount left to assist with drainage. There was one area where she asked us to come back and remove more, which we did. The work we did was at the design of the customer--she wanted to eliminate the grass and move to bedding areas, which she was thinking would be less maintenance than mowing grass. At the end of the job we explained to her that there would still be regular maintenance which would need to be done to combat growth in the beds and asked if she wanted an estimate for our regular maintenance service, which she did not want. Meanwhile, over two months have passed and undoubtedly, she does have growth in these bedding areas, as it is spring, and many seeds translocate, including various grass seeds. However, we have no control over what may be growing on her property and this is an issue of regular maintenance, and not due to any fault of the work we performed. We will be contacting the client and providing additional recommendations for maintaining the bedding areas on her own.
