About us

Hello, my name is Mark Griffiths and I am the owner of NW Arbor Care LLC. I grew up in the greater Northwest. After high school, I joined the United States Marine Corps where I was taught punctuality, a strong work ethic, as well as integrity. Later I became a King Crab Fisherman in Alaska, where I was tested mentally and physically. After ten years in Alaska, I worked for Aspluhnd Tree Experts where I earned my journeyman certificate, and later transferred to WestCoast Tree Care as a Foreman. This is where I learned the residential side of the industry. When I started NW Arbor Care LLC (formerly Northwest Arbor Care) in 2003 my sole vision was to instill my life experiences in my business.

Team of 9 came out to remove a 60 ft Pine Tree from my front yard. They were methodical, fast, friendly and efficient. Enjoyed watching the climbers expertly navigate their way up and lighten the tree piece by piece, while the ground crew was on the ball about clearing and grinding. If it were my business, I'd have charged more. Thanks for the good work guys.

We called for an estimate to remove two ornamental dwarf fir trees from the front of our house that after 29 years we no longer small. Additionally, we wanted a large weeping cedar in our backyard trimmed of the low and dead branches. I called for an estimate on a Wednesday (which we received the same day) and before noon on Monday morning the work was complete. Mat and 3 of his crew arrived on time and about 90 minutes later the work was completed to our satisfaction. They were quick, professional, and cleaned up all the debris before they left. It was a pleasure dealing with them and we will definitely use their services again should the need arise. Considering the week or two it would have taken me to do the job by myself, the expense of hauling off the waste, and the hospital stay I would have needed, the price for 4 people and their equipment was very reasonable.

I've used Mark Griffiths and NW Arborcare at least 3 times over the last 7 years. I am very happy with the service I've always received. We have cypress trees on the top back hill which are only accessible from my neighbor's backyard. Over the years the trees have required maintenance for different reasons, and the crew has always done a great job. They've nagivated thru some negative issues we've experienced with our neighbors in a tactful way. The last service required the crew to rope up to top the trees and they were careful not to damage the neighbor's fence, cleaned up all the branches and left everything (from what I could see) very tidy. I do not want regular gardeners trimming any of my trees - we only use arborists. I would not hesitate to use Mark and NW Arborcare in the future.

I contacted Mark and and he was quick to respond and sent out his brother to give us an estimate. My husband and I were pleased with the estimate so we scheduled the tree service for the next week. They arrived promptly on time and got started taking down the tree. As they removed the tree, the ground crew picked up the branches and trunk pieces. It wasn't long until they were complete with the cutting, leaving only a stump at ground level. They pruned our side of the neighbor's shrub/hedge so that it wouldn't be touching our shed. After they were done with that, it looked odd, and not exactly what I had expected, but at least the shrub was not touching our shed anymore. They cleaned up for the most part, but left a lot of branches and shrub debris in our backyard. Which unfortunately my poor husband is going to have to clean! They trimmed the bay leaf and lilac and even trimmed it a bit more because my husband thought it looked uneven. Everything went well (or so I thought). They were quick and were in and out in no time. I was pleased with their work and service (although I didn't notice the shrub debris in the backyard until they were gone). And I was especially happy that the eye sore of a tree we had was finally gone. All in all, it seemed like NW arbor care did a pretty good job, until I inspected our side lot closely. Our little fig tree was gone! I was heart broken, because after 3 years it was finally thriving and starting to actually give fruit, and now it was just gone. I was really disappointed and sad to see that it had been crushed to nothingness. Since it was right below the apple trees, we could tell that someone either crushed it, or branches fell right on top of it. Whatever the case was, all that was left were the remains of a once thriving little fig tree. I wish I had noticed it when they were still here, to get an explanation of why this happened. I'm also a little disappointed that no one mentioned it to me. Maybe they didn't notice? For this reason, I am not sure I'd use their services again. They did a great job with removing the big tree and thinning out our other trees. But just the fact that they didn't pay attention to their surroundings makes me think twice about hiring them the next time we need tree services. Just thinking about it now, makes me a bit sad that my little fig tree is gone. ***UPDATE*** My husband called Mark, the following week, to let him know about the fig tree and also to trim the apple trees a little bit more. The entire crew showed up that same day, trimmed the trees and said they'd replace my fig tree. After locating one, they brought me a new fig tree. We were appreciative that NW Arbor Care did that for us. And thankful that there was no attempt to dodge responsibility, or charge a fee. Instead, they acknowledged that they made the mistake, apologized sincerely, and immediately fixed it. And we were grateful for that. That type of integrity goes a long way. Because of this, we would consider using NW Arbor Care in the future again. We'll just watch them a bit more carefully!

Great. Really great. They arrived promptly on time and got started taking down two old, diseased cherry trees that were probably 40 feet high. The two trees were planted in a tight space between the house and detached garage. Two workers geared up, climbed up each of the trees, and with stunning efficiency began to cut the tree down limb by limb. The ground crew continually picked up the branches and trunk pieces and shuttled them to the chipper. The guys cutting took great care with each cut to ensure that nothing fell on the garage, house, or concrete driveway; they expertly directed each falling part of the tree to the small grass patch in our backyard, which was quite a feat to watch. When needed, they attached ropes and swung the branches safely to the ground when they overhung the house, fence or garage. It probably took them about two hours to complete the cutting, leaving only a stump at ground level. When the cutting was done, they raked the grass, swept, blew and collected all the saw dust, leaves and twigs and carted them away. I was really amazed at how well they cleaned up. The stump grinder (i believe) was finished another job, and they said it would be at our house in about an hour to grind the two stumps. I had to leave for work, but they let me know that when i got home there would just be two piles of wood chips where the stumps had been. Sure enough, two neat piles of wood chips and everything else clean and tidy. I would certainly recommend these guys - was very happy with their price, their service, and their friendliness.

First and foremost, I MUST commend them for their exceptional customer service. Mark was quick to respond to my request for an estimate and worked around my schedule. Quote was fair for the work to be done, and I was surprised to learn that the work could be scheduled for completion within a week from the time of quote. Mark called back later that same evening to inform me of a reschedule on another job, and offered to bring his crew to complete my job the very next day. Nice! I was away from home while the work was done, and when I came home I saw a couple of areas that I thought needed more attention. No problem! Mark had his crew back out the next day to address my concerns. Another nice touch was that Mark even lent me his hydraulic log splitter to cut up the wood from the trees, at no additional cost. I really appreciate this level of service and would absolutely hire Northwest Arbor Care again, in the future. Highly recommended!

Mark was great. Extremely responsive, polite, professional and on time. The team turned up on time and did a great job clipping back the trees that were over hanging the house and our insurance company was having a problem with. I have a huge tree I need removed from beside my garage and just called Mark to have come out and give me an estimate for the next job.

I was amazed by their responsiveness. I reached out on Wednesday, they gave me a quote Saturday morning and he had a crew out by Monday. We had several trees pruned by the house and the red tree cut shorter and removed a HUGE poplar that was blocking our view. They did a really nice job on the actual trees, and were great about cleaning up after themselves by the house. The tree we had taken down at the back of the property we asked to have the wood scattered "in the jungle" but to avoid the path. They still left quite a bit of debris on the path and scattered some of the wood on a neighboring property, though, which was a bit of a pain to clean up.

NWAC did a great job. The entire team was friendly, hard working punctual...actually showed up a half hour early, organized and cleaned up everything that came off the trees, which was a lot! They all were very professional from Mark who gave the estimate on the job to every worker we had contact with. Will be using them again to take another tree down and to have others wind sailed. This time I just need to remember to use my Angie's List member discount :~)

Amazing... My parents handled the day of interactions with them as my husband and I were at work. And they couldn't speak more highly of them. We saw the results and were blown away. First of all the gave us a reasonable estimate for trimming down and doing maintenance on all our trees. My mother asked 'what else can you do for us'? and they right away offered to rip out all the hedges in the front at no added cost! Talk about time savings for us :) They were able to show up next day with 6+ guys and were in and out in less than 2 hours. They were fast an efficient and the results show a lot of attention to details. They didn't over cut anything and they returned a chunk of our view that had been over taken by a cherry tree. Also I would like to note that the Arborist was there the whole time to make sure the work was done correctly. Over all i would highly recommend these guys and we will be using them again.

Arrived promptly for the estimate appointment. Originally, we only wanted two trees and two shrubs removed. During the estimate visit he politely pointed out what was needed on the plum trees. He specifically said, "I don't want to up-sell you." Then he pointed out all that needed to be done on the plum trees as well as the Pyramidalis. (These trees had been severely and very badly chopped to reduce their height years before and then were allowed to have all the suckers grow for about six years. The result was several hideous trees that were very unhealthy.) We did know all of this but didn't know what could be done to save the trees. He carefully offered solutions to the problems we had inherited. The estimate reflected each choice and each additional cost. The total offered a discount if all the work were done at one visit. AT NO TIME DID I FEEL PRESSURED OR PUSHED TO DO MORE THAN I WANTED TO DO. I chose to have all the work done that was recommended. We were scheduled within a few days of our agreement. The crew of three arrived promptly when scheduled. Everyone was polite and professional. They did the work we had agreed on and were open to trimming two more trees as my wife asked. The additional charge was fair and reasonable. The work was very acceptable. Cleanup was prompt and complete. It was nice they even offered some suggestions to continue to reshape these trees in to what they should be. We are very pleased with the work and the way we were treated. We recommend them to you and we will use them again.

I called and spoke with Mark who was professional and immediately put aside what he was doing to take my call and answer my questions. After asking some basic questions, he asked if he could stop by to see the job for himself. After explaining that we work full-time and aren't available during the day, we suggested we place a ribbon around the tree and, with our permission, he could stop by the next day, write up an estimate, and leave it on our doorstep. He did just that and also recognized (without any explanation) that we wanted a total of 7 trees removed so his estimate included all 7 trees. We ultimately went with another provider who was slightly more expensive but gave us great ideas when he did the estimate in person and accomodated our schedule.

Mark was very responsive and great to work with. His price was fair and in line with several other bids that we received. Overall the trees were removed as requested but I wish I did more research on tree removal before going with this company. If trees are being removed in or near your yard be sure to ask if cabling will be used to lower sections as they're cut. NW Arbor Care doesn't use cables (except when absolutely necessary). Granted when completing a job of this size some damage is expected but I had more damage done than I was anticipating. Because the company drops large sections of tree trunk as well as sections of trees (some were 20 ft+ in length): -- large divots were left in my yard -- a trellis was damaged -- the crew used a 2x4 to "fix" the issue without my knowledge (which I wasn't told about when I specifically asked the crew if there was any issues that I should know about) I found out that the trellis was damaged as it started to droop and the "fix" separated during the rains. -- the crew asked if they could remove approximately 20 large stepping stones to create a "drop zone" for falling tree sections. At the end of the day the stones were placed back haphazardly which I'll have to fix at some point. Finally, while the company advertises that they'll have the tree trunks picked up for free I found myself having to reach out to NW Arbor Care for the name of firewood guys to line someone up. After 2 tries I was able to line a guy up to pick up the wood (2 7x14 trailer loads stacked with enough for another load). When the firewood guy got to my home he tried to charge me $50 for his effort. Overall I'm happy we had the trees taken out. Mark's crew is hard working (even through the drizzling rain) and know what their doing but I would recommend that if you're going to have trees removed around your home be sure to ask if cable are going to be used. In the end it'll save you a lot of headache.

We got three bids for the tree work we needed done at our home, all from highly rated local companies on Angie's List. All three were professional and prompt in providing bids. Northwest Arbor Care provided the most attractive bid, so we decided to use them. Mark came out and spent just enough time with me to understand the scope of the work and provided his written bid on the spot. He was courteous and professional, and offered up some additional services we weren't considering at the time. He said he would be able to have a crew come out the very next day, and after conferring with my wife we decided to use them. The crew showed up the very next day, and the lead walked the job with me to understand the scope of the work to be done. I left them shortly after that and returned home to find a job very well done. One tree was removed, and a number of others were expertly trimmed, thinned, and pruned away from the house. They cleaned up their work to the extent that I it was hard to see that they were ever here. They needed to use our hose for some work and we had one small issue with our hose reel after they left. It was something that could have happened to anyone, and all it took was one call to Mark and the issue was swiftly resolved.

Very quick to respond, actually within the same day which I really appreciate. Got a quote same day. Price was the only reason for not hiring, great customer service, professional. We had gotten a quote for the same job (though it also included cutting of the brush which we actually completed ourselves which was about $600 for the total job from a bunch we used before, we were happy with them and their work, but I wanted to see what the pricing would be from others.
