NW Arbor Care LLC

Tree Service

About us

Hello, my name is Mark Griffiths and I am the owner of NW Arbor Care LLC. I grew up in the greater Northwest. After high school, I joined the United States Marine Corps where I was taught punctuality, a strong work ethic, as well as integrity. Later I became a King Crab Fisherman in Alaska, where I was tested mentally and physically. After ten years in Alaska, I worked for Aspluhnd Tree Experts where I earned my journeyman certificate, and later transferred to WestCoast Tree Care as a Foreman. This is where I learned the residential side of the industry. When I started NW Arbor Care LLC (formerly Northwest Arbor Care) in 2003 my sole vision was to instill my life experiences in my business.

Couldn't be happier with Mark's service! Within 4 days of my call, the tree was removed. Except for the random pine needle, there was no trace of a tree or a crew that removed it. Efficient, timely, and I especially appreciated how they cleaned up! Also, I forgot to leave the check out for Mark, but he did the job on trust anyway. Excellent team all around!

Monty gave us a quote and seemed to understand our desire to remove dead trees and branches to reduce fire danger on property and danger of dead branches overhanging driveway. When the crew arrived neither Monty nor Mark was with them. Monty did show up later for a very short time. The crew moved over the property (largely unsupervised) cutting on trees but not completely removing dead wood. At one time I pointed out to Nick that one area by the house had not been touched at all - he did take care of it. I don't know whether it is the policy to always leave wood wherever it falls but it seemed pretty unprofessional to leave large pieces of wood leaning against sprinkler heads and randomly spread wherever they fell. The large chunks of wood were left randomly on the hillside, in our dry riverbed or wherever they rolled. We are in our eighties and are not able to retrieve much of the wood that was left. We will need to hire someone else to that for us. My husband provided a cooler with cold drinks and later found the plastic bottles tossed into our yard. The crew did a poor job of clean up which required a phone call to have them return to do a better job. This was our second job with this company but with the lack of respect we felt to ourselves and our property we feel we will look elsewhere when we need tree work done in the future. It was very disappointing based on the information provided by their website and our previous experience with them.

They did not do a very good job of cleaning up afterwards. They left the mess on the top of the shed. The dogwood tree was supposed to be rounded but they didn't finish it, and I had to keep after them to get it done.

Mark Griffiths and the crew from Northwest Arbor Care did a great job. The trees on the lot were overgrown and in need of care; neglected by the previous owners. Limbs from the red cedar were tangled up with power lines to the house, and Mark's crew cleared them out with ease. They also removed a 30' holly tree that we and our neighbors didn't like. We will definitely call upon Northwest Arbor Care again whenever our trees need trimming.

I get it, it's summer, it's a busy time of the year for people in this industry. But I'm busy too. I try to reasonable about these things, but time is just something I prefer not to waste. Here's my experience with NW Arbor Care. I called and left a message on the morning of Tuesday, May 31st, requesting an estimate for tree removal. When I didn't hear back by the next day, I gave them another try and left another message. I received a call back on Thursday, June 2nd and scheduled an appointment with Mark for Saturday, June 4th at 10 am. He was a "No-Show". I waited an entire hour before calling (doing my best to be patient), though it seemed strange to be that behind schedule in the morning. I then left a courtesy message saying that I had waited an hour, and couldn't wait around any longer. I still haven't received a call back. I don't think I'm being unreasonable. If he had just called and said he couldn't make our schedule meeting, I would've rescheduled without hesitation.

Mark was originally supposed to come to our house to provide an estimate for arbor care at 11AM on 3/25/16. He did not show up and did not reach out to me. I eventually called at ~11:45AM and he apologized and said it wasn't showing up on his calendar (must have forgotten to add it). No big deal, accidents happen. We re-scheduled for him to come to our house at 11:30AM on 3/26/16 (the next day). He again did not show up and did not reach out to me. I tried to call him a little after 12:00PM for an update but could not reach him. I left a message and have still not heard back about the lack of service. I obviously cannot comment on the quality of his arbor care since he never came to our house but I was disappointed by the lack of professionalism.

I liked the people who worked for him. ?His bid was 1287.00 which was comparable to others, but I feel like I should alert people to keep an eye on their credit card statements he charged 1423.50, an overage of $136.00. ?He did come back and repay the $136, but I won't use him again. ?His workman were good, however the last tree looked pretty terrible, to be honest.

I chose to have the tree chopped but leave the wood. The tree is cut into manageable chunks but will need to be split. I am giving the wood to friends who have fire pits. They removed all the limbs and cleaned up the area well. I called Mark for a quote, he came out the next day, provided the quote and said they could start as soon as the next day. I received 4 other quotes and chose NW Arbor Care because they were affordable and could come and remove the tree ASAP. The crew was in and out in 5 hours. I would highly recommend NW Arbor Care... I'm a RE Agent and have already listed this company as a preferred vendor.

Great. We were happy with Mike. The crew (didn't include Mike) were a little rough around the edges but they did a good job at a good price and removed all debris. Mike forgot at first to apply our Angie's List discount. When we called to ask about it he immediately offered to send a check to make up the difference. It arrived fairly quickly. We were impressed.

The owner scheduled and came a day after I called to provide an estimate (very prompt!). He provided a reasonable bid and gave me advice about various aspects of the trees in questions (e.g., we decided to leave a yew tree alone and he suggested we prune the hawthorne rather than remove it but offered to take the tree down at no extra cost if I was not satisfied with the pruning). His bid was lower than that of another estimate I obtained. We were able to schedule the work for the next week in the a.m. The crew did not arrive until the afternoon (with no notification of the delay) but promptly went to work on all the trees listed. The pruning was somewhat unevenly done with some cutting back more severely than others. While they cleaned up most of the debris, there were small branches left (and a few larger pieces in the back yard) that I picked up and cut up for my compost bin after they left. I also called to inquire about their Angie's List or senior 10% discounts but didn't receive any response before paying the full bill.
Description of Work: Pruned and cleaned out 4 trees (2 maple, 2 sweet gum) in parkway, 1 hawthorne in back yard with limbs hanging over neighbors' garage roofs, and re-cut and shortened longer stumps of branches of Japanese maple previously pruned by another provider.

We've used Mark for years and have always been pleased with the quality and service of him and his crew. Mark came to our house and made some suggestions in addition to the items I had asked about. Work crew arrived bright and early and had the work complete before noon. We were not at home when they were finished and when we arrived I noticed a couple more large branches I had wanted removed. I called Mark and his crew came out the next day and took care of my wishes.

Mark and his team provided us with excellent, prompt, professional service, from the estimate to the finished work. The work crew was especially impressive. Getting a bid and setting up the appointment was easy. The actual work itself did not go as well as we'd hoped. Work was supposed to start at noon, then got pushed back to one, and didn't actually start until 2:30pm. Half the crew arrived on time, the other half arrived much later, and without explanation or apology. The actual removal of the sweetgum went smoothly (no property damage or complications), as did the small fir and olive tree. The wind sailing went fine as well. Where things went sideways was the stump grinding. A separate crew handles the grinding (which is not unusual at all), but after being told the work would be done within 48 hours, the grinding crew didn't arrive until 10 days later. It took a lot of back and forth (several text messages and a call) just to get an ETA on when it would happen. The kicker is that the crew left litter behind. We got a pair of used gloves, a half-bottle of Gatorade, and several cigarette butts on our property as a bonus.

Mark Griffith is extremely professional and very punctual. He is thorough, polite and very experienced in this industry. His crew was polite and very efficient. They are hard working and professional as well. They always were accommodating, if I had any questions they were right there to answer them and were just plain 'experienced nice guys'. Not only did they do an exceptional job with all of the work that was done, they also cleaned up everything and hauled it away. Also, they took their blower and blew off the backyard, front yard and the entire driveway to make sure all debris was gone, we were very impressed. We have used NW Arbor over the years and have always been pleased with the price and the work that was done.

I came out to water my garden this morning and much to my surprise my plum tree had fallen over (on my new fence). I called Mark and he was there within the hour to give me an estimate. (This is the 4th time we have used his service). I was given a reasonable estimate and he said his crew would be out Thursday. Within two hours his crew was on site, he was able to get us in today. The guys removed the fallen tree and thinned two pear trees and cleaned up after themselves, this took almost 3 hours from start to finish. We are really satisfied with Northwest Arbor Care, they are thorough and professional. I highly recommend them.

Owner came out and provided a competitive bid. He marked trees off on a diagram that he drew when he came out. Then the issues started. We scheduled for a 9am start. When we showed up on time, his guys were already done. They removed the wrong trees and didn't get all the trees we wanted to trim / remove. That's a huge problem because two of the trees were privacy ones and now our front window / door is very exposed. Owner offered to discount and replant. We took the discount and called it a day. Also, when I called to have his guys come out again to stump grind missed stumps, his guy said it is very common to have roots there. Maybe I am uninformed but I assume that all roots should be gone and when they say it will be flat, that it will actually be flat. The other rather unprofessional issue is that since they started an hour earlier than our appointment, our neighbors complained. 9am is okay on a Saturday with chain saws, but 8am isn't. They finished in about 45 minutes and for the next 15 minutes before we arrived, they were playing football in the street. When getting estimates from multiple parties, make sure that the trees physically marked. We learned that other companies actually do this, as one of the other bidders came by with white spray paint to clearly mark trees for removal for his guys. That or make sure the company does not work without you being there. We never approved the guys to work without us being there.

Mark made and excellent first impression. He offered quite a bit of 'do it yourself' advice as we walked around our property. He gave a reasonable estimate and did not even suggest that we decide right away........no pressure. The team arrived on time. The job was far superior to what I had expected. One tree that we had pretty much accepted as a chronic eye sore is now majestic and beautiful. This company absolutely exceeded my expectations.

When the crew arrived, they did poor work and had to be badgered to do the trimming that the "owner" included in the estimate for the first house. At the second house, they told us they could not trim the branches overhanging the house because they were connected to a tree in the neighbors yard despite the owner including it in the estimate for that house. BTW: no price reduction because they did not perform the work . i

My entire experience was fantastic - from my initial contact requesting a bid through completion of the project. Mark responded quickly to my request for a bid and walked me through various options to consider and gave me pricing for each. After scheduling the work with him I changed my mind about removing one of the trees. He quickly came back (one day before the job was scheduled) to give me an updated bid. His team arrived at 8:15 and began to work. The crew talked with our neighbors and asked for permission to go onto their property so they could put more ropes on the trees. They were able to safely remove the trees with minimal disruption of our neighbors. The following day they came back to complete the stump grinding. We mentioned to the employee who was doing the stump grinding that we thought the cedar tree wasn't trimmed/sailed enough. Immediately they responded with "we will have someone come by on Saturday to fix that." Which was the following day. You can't go wrong working with them. I will be hiring them for our hedge project next!

Mark G. wasn't the quickest at returning phone calls, or calling with a change of plans, I count that against him in my review. However, his large crew was on time Tuesday morning with a wood chipper. One of the reasons I hired them was because there would be nothing left to deal with after they left. We discussed a little more in detail about the overgrown hedge. Just bringing it 1/2 way down, as in the work order, would still make it too high to manage. They did a lovely job on it. The tree was very close to the house and a fence, and they took it down with zero issues in small log size pieces. The crew kept up with the branches nicely. When the foreman came to pick up the check, all the logs were still piled in my yard. I asked if he was taking them too, as my contract said Full clean-up, and a tree left behind didn't seem like it was clean. He told me that was a gray area, but he called Mark G right then. Mark said he would be out later in the week to pick up the wood. On Friday morning, he showed up with an employee that single-handedly, moved all the wood into the truck. He took care of the problem of the tree remains that wasn't clear in the contract. I wouldn't have hired him if I had known I had to get rid of the wood myself simply because I had no way to do so. It is an issue that people need to be aware on the estimate. But, like I said, he took care of it at no extra cost to me.

I got about 8 bids for the job. I chose NW Arbor Care for both their competitive price and their professionalism. It was several months between the bid and when I finally called to hire them for the job. Mark came out that day and walked the job one more time to make sure we were on the same page. He was able to get the job done within two weeks! I was thrilled. Three of the trees I wanted down were very large and very close to my house. I was so thankful to have an experienced crew doing the job! If you ever have a chance to watch this crew at work, it is really quite amazing. Thank You Mark for a job well done! I would recommend them to anyone.
