About us

Hello, my name is Mark Griffiths and I am the owner of NW Arbor Care LLC. I grew up in the greater Northwest. After high school, I joined the United States Marine Corps where I was taught punctuality, a strong work ethic, as well as integrity. Later I became a King Crab Fisherman in Alaska, where I was tested mentally and physically. After ten years in Alaska, I worked for Aspluhnd Tree Experts where I earned my journeyman certificate, and later transferred to WestCoast Tree Care as a Foreman. This is where I learned the residential side of the industry. When I started NW Arbor Care LLC (formerly Northwest Arbor Care) in 2003 my sole vision was to instill my life experiences in my business.

I placed a call to West Arbor asking to have someone come out to give a bid for the removal of four large evergreen trees. We set an appointment for the following day. Mark Griffiths was punctual and professional. We took him down to the area where the trees were and discussed exactly what we wanted to do. We needed a firm which would be willing to work with the requirements of the City of Lake Forest Park. We knew that we would have to obtain a permit from LFP to remove the trees. These trees are quite large (two are over 100 tall) and they stood on a sloped bank above a deteriorating retaining wall. Some of the branches extended over the driveway and into the overhead wires. Mark agreed to work with the City and to cut down the trees so that we could proceed with the replacement of the retaining wall. Mark was very courteous and listened carefully to what we said. He asked some good questions and we discussed some of the challenges of the job. He then gave us a bid of $900 to cut down the four trees, chip and haul away all the branches and tree debris, and to cut the wood trunk and larger branches into fireplace pieces. We asked him to leave the cut wood so we could pass it on to a neighbor. We were very impressed with West Arbor and will have them perform the work for us just as soon as we complete the plans for the retaining wall. We have since learned that the tree removal contractor must be licensed by the City of Lake Forest Park.
Description of Work: We contacted West Arbor to come out to our home to give us a quote on the removal of four evergreen trees at the end of a shared driveway. Mark Griffiths came out to look over the job and provide a bid for the cutting of the trees. Mark provided us a written bid for the job.

It went well. Mark came out promptly and gave me a good bid. We have a challenging set of trees on a steep slope between my house and the neighbor's. His crew came out a few days later, and they did what they said they would do. I gave them a B for quality because they caused some relatively minor damage to my property and my neighbor's property. To be fair, it was a very challenging job, and Mark took responsibility for the damage, fixed what he could, and will pay for the rest. Overall, I am satisfied and would use them again. Mark honored his AL coupon without any discussion.
Description of Work: Took down several large nuisance trees.

We needed to remove two large trees that were along our property line, and overgrown onto our neighbors' property. The work was done as agreed, and we appreciated being confident about the company's professionalism.

Mark came out within the hour of me calling for an estimate. He was kind and professional and made suggestions about certain trees needing or not needing to be taken down. I asked for the removal of 3 hemlock trees and one stump grinding. He gave me a 10% discount for mentioning Angie's List and I think the price is reasonable. We don't have the funds to do the trees right now, but will definitely use him when we do.

Alan and other staff members came on time, introduced themselves & explained how they removed the trees. They finished so quickly but thoroughly, cleaned the site completely clean and reported to me that they were done for job before they left. I am very impressed by their performance and of course happy with the price tag, too.
Description of Work: Mark came for a bit and he was the best deal of all the companies we interviewed, so we chose this company for our tree removal. They removed holly trees and 2 shrubs.

Upon having discovered them on Angie's List, I called right away. The owner arrived at our home within less than 30 minutes! I showed him what we want done and his estimate was so reasonable that I couldn't help but think he was doing us a huge favor. An hour later he returned with his team and equipment and within about 45 minutes the job was done. They did a fantastic job and cleaned up thoroughly after themselves. The yard looks great. They were exceptionally punctual, friendly, professional, thorough and fast. We are very pleased with their service and would recommend them to anyone. I can see why they have such high ratings on Angie's List.
Description of Work: They removed 6 fully grown trees (stump grinding not included), a tall shrub, a plant and a rampant Wisteria (including the withered trellis it was growing on). In addition, they trimmed back trees from the roof of our home to prevent rodent access and also trimmed back many pine tree branches that were hanging on electrical and cable wires.

Showed up on time with a crew of 3, thinned a tree for my neighbor then did the work in my yard. Began at 9, done by noon. Kept checking with me as they removed branches. Cleaned up and managed to not damage any plants in my intensely planted yard. Honored my Angie's list discount with no question.

I called Mark and he came out and provided an estimate and some advice on which trees we should remove and which we could retain. The process took about ten minutes and he sent me a bid over email. We scheduled the work, and his crew came right on time and worked steadily to complete the work. One of the crew members took me on a tour near the end of the day to ensure my satisfaction. Everything was done on time and as specified. We were delighted with the quality of the work.
Description of Work: We had several trees taken down, windsail reduction on some very tall Evergreen trees, removal of some large bushes, trimming of trees/bushes away from the house, re-shaping of a large Maple, removal of a large brush pile and cleanup wood/removal.

The job was needed and went extremely well. Everyone came when Mark said they would and I had absolutely no problem with any aspect of the work.
Description of Work: Removed 3 trees that were lifting out of ground and would eventually have fallen. Trimmed a tree in the front yard that was becoming entangled in electric wire. Trees were cut into 18 inch rounds and stacked neatly. The stumps were removed the next day. Mark was very prompt in returning my call. The workmen (3-4) were very efficient and cleaned up after themselves.

I needed to remove the trees because one large branch fell on my roof during a snow storm and another larger branch leaned ominously over my house all night. It did not fall. The next day I called them and Mark Griffiths came that day to assess the situation. He recommended removing three trees and showed me why it was dangerous to keep them. I scheduled it, they arrived on schedule, and completed the job as we had agreed. Because a friend had said he would take the trunk pieces for firewood, I had them left in the yard. Then the friend decided he couldn't use them. So, I called and left messages for the owner several times to find out the name of another person who they had said would be happy to take the firewood. He never called back and I have had to find an alternate way to dispose of it. This was my only disappointment with the process. That is why I gave a lower grade for responsiveness.
Description of Work: They cut down three large pine trees, cut the trunk into 18" lengths, and put the smaller branches through the chipper. They left the trunk pieces per my request. The trees were between two buildings, so great care was required to avoid damaging the buildings.

Great. Crew was on time and worked very hard. Took them (4 crew members) about 3 hours to do all the work. They have very good equipment and have a system to get it all done fairly quickly. They cleaned up the yard, driveway, walkways and left it better than they found it!

Mark was very pleasant to deal with and took the time to discuss the condition of all the trees on our property. The crew of four arrived the next morning on time and did an excellent job. They also did a nice job of cleaning up and removing the debris. Will definitely use this company again. Their price was reasonable and their work outstanding.
Description of Work: We were very pleased with the service performed. Another company that we contacted never even responded to our phone calls. A second company that we reached gave an inflated bid for the same amount of work. NW Arbor Care (Mark) responded to my call the same day and gave me a very competitive bid. They were able to perform the work the next day. They thinned (wind reduction) 2 very tall fir trees (approx 100 ft high) on our back slope, removed and trimmed several large limbs from a large maple tree that overhung our neighbors property/fence, removed trunk and limbs from a second large maple tree that had died and also trimmed limbs from our apple tree that were touching the roof.

Mark was professional, responsive, and super to work with. The first job went great so when I had an urgent need to remove the two pines I knew just who to call. He was helpful enough to get us right into his crew's busy schedule and his team worked really hard to get the job done quickly. The crew of workers are wonderful and very punctual. I would highly recommend NW Arbor to anyone looking to have trees trimmed, removed, or worked on. Their bid was the most competitive and working with them was a pleasure.
Description of Work: We had NW Arbor care out on 2 different occasions. The first time they trimmed 2 maples in the front yard, a cherry tree in the back and sheared my neighbor's encroaching trees to the property line. We got bids from several tree companies, and Mark's bid was one of the best priced. We paid $450 for those services. A week or so later we decided to have 2 HUGE 100+ foot pine trees taken down in our front yard. It was a really big job and on super short notice (1 day) Mark had his great team out to take the trees down. He also had the 2 stumps ground and all logs and debris removed. The second job was $1600.

Did a great job, even though the crew I heard had to deal with an unpleasant neighbor who didn't think the big maple should be worked on (there were many dead branches in it!). They did as much as they could and came back a few days later to remove the debris. They did forget to trim up one area that we had agreed upon to do, and Mark said not to worry they'd come back. Had to call him a few times because he kept forgetting, but they did finally come and the work they did was great!

Mark's crew did a great job. They raked up even the smallest pieces and left the yard in great shape. They were careful to to do any damage to my neighbor's property as most of the trees were right on the property line. I'd say the job took about five hours from start to finish.
Description of Work: Mark sent his crew of four to my location to cut down six small to medium sized trees then haul them to be mulched (chipper/shredder). The tree's height ranged from 15 to 30 feet tall. I also had four large brush piles that needed to be hauled away and placed into their chipper/shredder. I also had a stump removed from on of the laurel trees that was taken down. Make sure the stump of a laurel tree is completely removed or it will grow back.

I called and after a single electronic transfer, spoke directly with Mark Griffiths. He was able to come to my home on the day of the phone call. He walked through my yard, which has many trees, and noted what needed to be pruned, removed or left alone. He addressed all my concerns and answered all of my questions. The next day, due to a re-schedule which left an opening in the crew's schedule, they came and did the work. They were on time, answered any questions, worked efficiently and did a beautiful job. They carefully avoided harming any plants in my gardens, and they picked up after themselves. When Mark came the next day to review the work, he gave me an excellent recommendation for a replacement tree and for a nursery to use. He also educated me on some techniques to use for pruning my trees and shrubs. This was a very good experience. I will use them again and recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Removal of a fir over 100 feet tall, a large, dying Japanese maple, and a big bushy shrub. Pruning a huge small-leaf maple, a huge big-leaf maple, an oxydendrem, 2 large old cedars, 2 tall ornamental cherries and a medium-size maple. I hope this is a complete list; there was a LOT of work. They left the wood in 16-18" rounds, chipped all the branches, etc., and left the yard tidy with no damage to any other plants. The job took less than 4 hours for a crew of 3.

Unfortunately I am not in the pruning business and am new to the whole pruning thing so I feel like I don't have anything to base his work on. Mark was prompt and courteous and the price was right. We had an estimate from another tree company for the same job and they wanted to charge us $2,000! I would use Mark again but I think I would prefer to be present when his crew is there rather than have him come by when we are at work.
Description of Work: Mark was very prompt in coming out to do an estimate and schedule a day to complete the task of pruning 4 trees. Came out on the day he said he would. When we got home two of the trees looked like they had not been done. Mark said he 'forgot' to do one of the trees but that the other one he did prune. I am not an expert on pruning but he did not take much off this particular tree. His crew did come back the next day to do the other tree. He then came back that night to collect the check.

Mark came out and looked at the trees. I had wanted to just have them pruned, but they were in worse shape than I thought: the roots of one had started coming out of the ground in a recent wind storm, and another was hollow. Mark agreed to remove three trees and prune one away from the power lines. A crew came out one day and removed the trees and pruned the one, plus another that I had mistakenly thought belonged to my neighbor. A few days later, someone came out and removed the stumps.
