About us

Hello, my name is Mark Griffiths and I am the owner of NW Arbor Care LLC. I grew up in the greater Northwest. After high school, I joined the United States Marine Corps where I was taught punctuality, a strong work ethic, as well as integrity. Later I became a King Crab Fisherman in Alaska, where I was tested mentally and physically. After ten years in Alaska, I worked for Aspluhnd Tree Experts where I earned my journeyman certificate, and later transferred to WestCoast Tree Care as a Foreman. This is where I learned the residential side of the industry. When I started NW Arbor Care LLC (formerly Northwest Arbor Care) in 2003 my sole vision was to instill my life experiences in my business.

The tree was close to the house, so we were a bit nervous about it. They did a fantastic job, and the price was about $1000 less than any other bids. Though the wood was left in the yard (per arrangements with us), Mark offerred to give us names of people who would gladly come get it if we wanted that. All in all, this was a GREAT experience, and we won't hesitate to use Mark again for other tree work.

Ryan, Mike and Daniel were punctual, polite, professional, and efficient. We thought they were a good team and worked carefully and safely. Mark Griffith came by while the crew was working to check on how things were going.

Had an immediate response to my e-mail contact. However, owner never answered my question of whether he was a certified arborist ... turned out it didn't much matter since someone I hadn't met came to prune my tree. Appt was scheduled for afternoon but when I arrived home before noon, the crew was almost finished with the apple tree. I was dismayed to see that they had done so much work without my oversight or knowledge. The tree was pruned so drastically (a matter of miscommunication between owner and me ... my fault) that I said I didn't want them to take out the cedar tree as I was concerned that it would land on my roof if the backyard was an example of work ... large limbs broke another tree when they came down. The tree trimmer called the owner who came over and stayed until the work was finished, assuring me that if the tree fell on the roof, they would be responsible. Overall, I think the work was done professionally but make sure that all the expectations are spelled out clearly. And, yes, I would use this company again even though my review doesn't sound like it.

A large tree fell on the house roof from across the street, with the top 3rd of the trunk hanging from the roof edge, and branches all over the roof. It was a mess, and it was a Sunday. They answered the phone in person, they were there within an hour of my call, quoted a very fair price, and they got right to work. This was a tricky job, because there were actually two large trunks hanging at the edge of the roof, with tension on both. There was a possibility of damage to the siding and windows if not done correctly, and they did it very well. They didn't hurry - they discussed and decided the safest way, roped the trunks carefully, secured the power lines, and made sure we were away from the windows before they cut the trunks. Their planning paid off - the trunks came down with no further damage at all. After clearing the roof, they tarped over the damaged part to keep off the rain. And they took pains to be careful of the rhodie bush and the birdfeeder, which was appreciated. They did a great job, and I'm impressed and appreciative. Thank you, Mark and Ryan.

Mark came down on Saturday and gave me a bid and offered to do the job on Monday. They showed up on time and did a great job.
Description of Work: They cut down two huge trees and chipped up all the branches and carted them off. They cleaned up the street. The wood was cut into 16" lengths. I recommended them to my neighbor that was looking to have a very large and difficult tree cut down. My neighbor liked his price and had them do his right after they did the work on my trees.

We engaged Mark to do some serious pruning of a beautiful, robust tulip poplar in our front yard, a very large Douglas fir, and several smaller trees in our yard. Our previous experience with another self-described arborist some years before was reminiscent of the sort of work performed by the hacks that arrive in the large orange trucks, and we dreaded another such experience, since following that assault the poplar took a long time to recover. Happily, Mark and his crew were masterful and did exactly what we asked for, as informed by his skill and knowledge of trees. Cleanup was immaculate and we have been entirely pleased by the result.

It went well, I had asked for an estimate and they were able to do the work within one week. The yard was cleaned up really well, in fact I think it was cleaner than before they did the work! My only complaint is that they didn't haul away the bottom parts of the holly tree. I put a sign on it that says "free firewood" and we will see what happens. Mark (I think that is his name), promised to come and haul the wood away if nobody takes it. Over all it was a good experience, the price was comparable to other arborists, and they got the work done quickly.

It had a bad start in that I had to call the contractor and ask if I had the right date and time to do the work.. This was 30 minutes past the established appoint to begin. He said that he had overlooked our appointment because of writing it too small in his calender. He said that the job would be completed as agreed and the crew would be in an hour or so. Two hours later, they arrived. After that time, the job went as planned. The crew appeared very knowledgeable and very fast. They did a very good job. They were very careful about the two houses as the space between them where both trees were located was very small. There were also cars in the neighbors driveway which they asked to be removed as a precaution. They placed a pile of shavings from the trees on a tarp and covered it with another tarp securing the corners. They explained that the stump grinding would occur the next day, which it did. Despite the difficult start, I would contract with them again because of the quality of work.
Description of Work: They removed two twenty year old decorative flowering plum trees that had overgrown it's space. Ground up the debris. At my request left the shavings so I could put it on my flower beds. This work was done on Thursday. The following morning, they ground down the remaining stumps, completing the job.

The company did a great job in cleaning up our old white pine tree. They cut specific branches and limbs that needed to be taken down after it was severely damaged from the winter snow load. The tree looks much better and wind can now blow through the tree without causing any further damage. Any branches that looked suspect to further snow load damage were limbed. We are very happy with the way the pine tree looks thanks to the professionals at Northwest Arbor Care!

Overall, all went great. I told the owner that I could have been there all day pruning every little branch, and he stated that the workers could, too, but that the overall job was to clear dead branches and allow the tree to breath and grow appropriately. He said that this Winter, I should really notice the difference when the heavy snow falls. It looks so much better, without hacking the tree all apart.

My neighbors called to say that a very large broken limb from one of my trees was hanging precariously over their yard, suspended between two trees. I consulted Angie's List (my first time!) and found a well-rated company with a large number of positive reports in less than five minutes. I called Northwest Arbor Care that afternoon and Mark came out the next morning (at exactly the agreed upon time) and gave me an estimate to remove the hanging limb and to prune both of the large trees in my yard. Given the hazard of the hanging limb, I was glad that he was able to schedule my job for the very next afternoon. His crew was already at my house and working when I got home, and they were very professional and careful. They cut off the limbs in sections, tying off those that might cause damage and lowering them carefully. One of Mark's crew climbed a neighbor's tree without spikes, even though it was more difficult, because the neighbor was concerned that spikes would damage the tree. For the hazardous hanging limb, the entire crew worked together to tie it off safely, cut sections off to reduce the hazard, and then lower the limb to the ground. They removed all the waste, chipped all the limbs and cut up the larger limbs for firewood for me. At my request, one of the crew even climbed up to a higher limb overhanging my neighbor's yard to remove it, just to make sure it wouldn't fall later. Toward the end of the clean-up it started to rain, but the whole team stayed to complete the clean-up despite the weather and left my yard looking better than it had before they came. My trees look great and they're ready for the winter windy season. I would definitely call Mark again for service with my trees.

After getting numerous bids we went with N.W. Arbor Care. Mark came out the day I called and gave us a great price to do the job. HIs company came out the next week and performed the work. The crew was professional, prompt, and unbelievably tidy! They did the work in the record time and left our property in great shape. The trees we had removed bordered an elaborate garden and I was really anxious about the plants welfare. I didn't need to be...everything came out in great shape. Thank you for the really positive experience.

It went great! I called and told them that I had a large brush pile and wanted an estimate to chip and remove it. They arrived that afternoon looked at it and said that it would be $150. Mark arrived the next morning right on time and in one hour it was all gone! If I had rented a truck or a chipper and hauled it to the dump it would have cost me much more and taken me all day.
Description of Work: I cut down three medium sized holly trees, pruned all of my laurel bushes, and removed many box wood shrubs and literally filled my driveway with the pile. I thought that I would rent a truck and haul all of it to the dump. Luckily I thought about calling a tree service to come and chip it all up...

Mark was able to come and make an estimate soon after I called him. About a week or two later I called and asked about adding something to the estimate. He remembered my place and was able to immediately give me a price for the additional work. His prices are excellent and he was able to schedule our work asap. He and his crew arrived on time and explained to them what needed to be done. They worked hard, taking only a short lunch break and did a very thorough job, both wiht the trees and with clean up. We were very pleased with the experience.

Mark arrived with his crew and we accessed each area and how best to trim the trees to not only look good but to solve the problem of having them too close to the house and hanging over the roof. Solved the problem of trees & stump infringing on our property from the neighbors, leaving everything neat. They have "arborist" training so they know the best way to manage the look of the trees without butchering. As they completed their work, one of our neighbors approached him for a bid as well. We would highly recommend this company, Mark is the owner, but he has an experienced crew that completes the work. He came back to check on the follow through of the stump grinding, and the overall work done. Very professional & personable people to work with. They have experience working with the various types of trees, and know what works best for that particular tree, while yet doing the work as you want it done. They also asked us to take a look at all the areas and asked if there was anything else we needed before they left. Good crew! Job well done! Was able to get work done quickly, and gave us a 10% discount for Angie List customers.
Description of Work: Removed 3 spindly Vine Maple hanging into my yard, removed a large tree stump that was breaking the fence. Cut down a very big aging Rhodie. Trimmed & shaped 2 very large trees away from front roof line, removed lower branches, trimmed 3 oversized aging rhodies, and trimmed up 2 Lilac trees. Removed all debri & chipped trees from premises. He has a stump grinder person he uses, and he followed up the same day, within the hour of the crew finishing up. He ground out the large stump left by the rhodie.

We had the company appraised the price about six months ago, and then postponed the job. Then they came again and affirmed the price. The job is done quickly and thoroughly, though they left two piles of unsightly leftovers. The price is OK but we felt it would be cheaper if we bargained more. Overall, not a bad experience.
