About us

Hello, my name is Mark Griffiths and I am the owner of NW Arbor Care LLC. I grew up in the greater Northwest. After high school, I joined the United States Marine Corps where I was taught punctuality, a strong work ethic, as well as integrity. Later I became a King Crab Fisherman in Alaska, where I was tested mentally and physically. After ten years in Alaska, I worked for Aspluhnd Tree Experts where I earned my journeyman certificate, and later transferred to WestCoast Tree Care as a Foreman. This is where I learned the residential side of the industry. When I started NW Arbor Care LLC (formerly Northwest Arbor Care) in 2003 my sole vision was to instill my life experiences in my business.

Excellent business. Owner Mark Griffiths responsive; came over within a day or so to give estimate and followed up with phone call. Scheduled the job within a week and they completed work in two days plus a morning exactly as promised. Exceptionally hard workers, safe, knowledgeable, positive and courteous with me and each other. Felt comfortable having them on the property and very pleased with their work. Will use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Windsail reduction and skirting of fir tree groves in yard. Somewhere between 25-35 trees (not sure, perhaps more). Removed hemlock and maple tree, ground stumps and chopped for firewood, house clearance and pruned assorted other trees in yard. Ground two truckloads of mulch, full cleanup.

The company was very professional, prompt and had a large enough crew to handle both tree removals in under 4 hours! Both trees were over 60 feet tall and they very carefully controlled the drop of all branches and the main trunks. They did an excellent clean up job, removing all debris and raking the area of all small branches, etc.
Description of Work: We had two very large trees removed: a birch right next to our house and a very large cedar in a neighbor's yard (with their permission). Because both trees were so close to houses we needed to make sure that the job was done safely with no damage to landscape structures or either house.

Called Mark, set up estimate appointment. He came out, gave me an estimate, also gave me some free advice on other trees in the yard, identified a tree that I've been wondering about (Laurel), pointed out that it was rotting from the inside (had no idea). Hired him to come out the next Friday. My husband says about 10 guys came, and climbed up, sawed off, and chipped all branches that were cut down from each tree. The trees look a lot lighter, and I feel a lot better about the next storm. My husband forgot to ask for the Angie's List discount, so I called Mark and he readily agreed to send me a check back for 10%. Nice.

They pruned the trees promptly and cleaned up like you wouldn't believe. They had taken care of some trees for me previously and I noticed a limb hanging in one of my trees. One of them climbed up and took care of that for me as soon as I pointed in out. They are very kind and do a wonderful job. When I call, I get the owner who speaks to me directly.

The service was quick and nearly fully complete and I am very pleased with the results. The only small negative is that they left a few sections of cut tree trunks that I requested to have removed but now I have to deal with them.

My wife and I get three bids on this job by three Angies List companies. NW Arbor Care was not the lowest bid, but it was clear when Mark, the owner, bid the job, that he ran a quality company. He was specific, and detailed about what we wanted done. Since it was two jobs, he discounted the job if he could do both at the same time. He called the day he was to arrive to explain that he would be about an hour late. Much appreciated. His crew of 5 arrived right on time, all helmets and safety gear, and after getting our explanation of what we wanted, how much to take off the hedge, etc., they started to work. The birch tree is right next to four leaded glass windows on the gazebo, their worker climbed the tree, set safety lines, and set to bringing this monster down limb by limb, and strategically dropping the limbs so as not to have them touch the gazebo. Their crew did the entire job, to perfection, in a bit over one hour. My wife and I figured they would be here most of the day. It was something to see. They worked with hand signals, as they all had ear protection, running all kinds of loud chainsaws, trimmers, blowers, and stump grinders. They swept and cleared the yard nicer than it was when they arrived, a great crew. We were impressed with the quality work at such a quality price. Mark is the owner, and he said that he had the "best tree crew in the state" and I am sure he is right. His crew has worked together for 6 years, and you can see this as they work. They work as a real team. I not only will hire them next year to do the hedge, but I am working on my neighbor to hire them to prune a tree that bothers me more than it bothers them! Trust me. These guys are real pros, they will exceed your expectations.

We are repeat customers of NW Arbor Care for one reason. Mark Griffith and his crew are the BEST! They always arrive on time, work quickly without sacrificing quality, and always conduct themselves in a professional manner. We will continue to call upon NW Arbor Care for our future needs.
Description of Work: Mark and his crew trimmed back a tall, large maple tree back to a verticle property line that was difficult to access; they cut back and shaped a large, thick growth of blackberry vines along a very steep hillside. Every scrap of vegetation debris was cleaned up and hauled away.

Mark Griffiths, the owner of Northwest Arbor Care, was incredibly responsive to my need to get a 40 foot tree removed so that other work could be started in my back yard. He answered his phone promptly and was able to give me a bid over the phone based on my description of the work needed. He was able to accommodate my request to have the work done in one trip rather than first getting an estimate and then a second trip for the work. He had a crew out the next monring and they had the tree removed in short order. His crew works well together and the owner and the crew treat each other with respect (always a good sign). Mark couldn't have been more helpful to me and I would definitely use his company again.

I am so thrilled with the work performed by this company. They way exceeded any expectations my husband or I ever had. For the first time in about 8 years we have the picture perfect yard. First of all Mark answered his phone at 7:00 p.m. when I got home from work ( everyone else I called had their answering service on). He set up an appointment for the very next day. We walked the entire yard and I could see Mark was extremely knowledgeable about all my trees and plants. He listened to all my concerns and quoted me a price and we arranged for him to bring his crew over that weekend. He had a crew of 4, which were all as professional as Mark. They were amazing. Each one was so professional and gave all my additional requests and comments respect. They made sure I was happy with every single plant, tree and bush in the yard. This was by far the best company my husband and I have ever delt with. If anyone has any questions regarding this company I would be more than happy to talk to them. We are planning on making this a yearly job for this company, with a couple prunning jobs every 4-6 months.

My house is on a heavily wooded acre in Canyon Park. I've had numerous companies over the years take out trees. None of them are as good as NW Arbor Care. These guys are the best. I have had them out five times in the last seven years. They have taken out six trees and wind sailed a large fir. Mark's friendly and efficient crew show up on time, get the job done, and leave the place clean.

A crew arrived to cut down a large pine tree that hung over the house and also trim dead branches from a birch. They worked quickly and efficiently and did a great job of shredding the branches and leaving the tree trunk in pieces for later splitting for fireplace use. We were very happy with the work done.

I hired NW Arbor Care for vine maple and laurel pruning. During my collecting of estimates, they'd spoken to me promptly and arrived on schedule to give me a price. ("Promptly" in these preliminaries is important to me.) There was more "promptly" when they did the job, and the work suited me.
Description of Work: Thinning of vine maples. These get bunchy when the trees are in the sun, with many, many small branches from each joint. I don't like the "globs" and asked to have them reduced. The other thing was a rough pruning of a laurel hedge. I don't want plants that look like boxes, so I go in after the landscapers to "loosen" things up. The pros are asked to take off last year's growth as best they can.

Mark arrived on time for the estimate and we did a walk-through of the property. My main concern was a cherry tree that was too close to the house, which was growing over the back deck. I had originally hoped to move the tree, but I was previously advised by a neighbor that it was too close to the slab and removal could affect the stability of the deck. Mark thoroughly discussed all of the options with me, such as sealing or grinding the stump (grinding would cost extra, etc.). He inspected all of the trees and shrubs, letting me know what they would/could do with each of them. He pointed out a small fir in the front bed and asked me how I felt about it. I said I really liked it, but he let me know it was too close to the sidewalk and that its roots would eventually start to buckle the concrete, and the city would make me pay for the sidewalk repairs. Since I liked the tree so much, he just said to keep an eye on it, that I still had a few years before it would be an issue. We also talked about the hydrangea, which was at least 6 feet in height. It was looking rather sad - I had previously paid a different company for a clean-up/trimming/pruning project, but they did half of the job, took full payment, and never returned (that incident is what brought me to Angie's List). The hydrangea was one of the casualties. Mark told me it would bloom late, but in its current state, it might not look so good. He said I could trim it later after it bloomed or they could trim it down so that it would look spectacular next year. Since it was covered in dead blooms and leaves, I decided to trim it immediately. Mark is so knowledgeable and completely candid - I felt very confident in his abilities and observations. I asked him when he could start, and he said he could come the following day. His crew came around 9am the following morning and got right to work. They were out of here by 1pm, everything spic and span! I was at work, but my neighbors keep an eye on everything around here, especially since my husband unexpectedly passed away a little over a year ago (we were both in our early thirties). I came home to such a lovely yard - what a difference! I am very happy with the level of service and care I received from Mark and his crew. Mark is very professional and wonderfully friendly. He didn't rush through the estimate process or leave me in the dark, and my input was not only requested, but valued!! He asked me how I felt about that fir tree in the front bed, he didn't just say, "well, this should be removed right now, too, because it will break up the sidewalk." He shared his knowledge with me in terms that I could understand so that I could make a better decision based on what I wanted. I look forward to seeing Mark and his crew again for next year's tree care.

Three monkeys (not really, but very sure-footed in the branches) came and did all that they did, with nobody here watching. I came home to find things being ground into ground cover and two guys remaining inside the camelia and mimosa. Thank goodness, the one in the mimosa had belts and pulleys to keep him safe. The yard was perfectly clean when they left, and the pruned trees look so happy. So did I.

As detailed above, we liked the fast response, and high skill level, in calling Mark, at Northwest Arbor Care. (It is great to reach the man, rather than a recording.) The whole process, went smooth, and was handled professionally. Also, the crew finishes by cleaning the whole area of debris or branches. We believe they are the BEST in the tree cutting business, thus receive a five (5) Star Rating.
Description of Work: We had a huge tree problem, well over a hundred feet tall, with branches growing around and above the main electrical wires near our house. Contacted: Mark Griffiths, of Northwest Arbor Care, a tree service expert, as well as an arborist, (an ISA member). Mark was fast to respond, and gave us a free estimate. Good pricing for a difficult job. Mark's tree cutting specialists, have proven to be highly experienced, and SAFE, in taking down large and dangerous trees. Never any damage to the structures below or nearby trees / plants. Mark's crew are careful, with PRECISE SKILL and JUDGMENT in dropping all the big branches, and the tree trunk. This precision and team action, is really remarkable to watch, with confidence. We have become repeat customers, for several years, for work including: cutting large hazardous trees and branches, shaping border trees, assessing diseased trees / unstable trees, and grinding stumps. Excellent results, on every project. (Previously, with other tree cutters, and it was scary taking down a big tree, as they did not have the same precise control, and caused damage to fences and other trees.) Northwest Arbor Care's superior work has significantly improved our property. Our highest recommendations!

I had 3 very large trees in my back yard (2 fur and 1 spruce) in desperate need of tender loving care. They got that loving care!! I got several estimates, Mark from Northwest Arbor Care (not the cheapest), was the only one that told me that one of my trees had been hit by lightening. Mark was patient and answered any questions or concern that I had. From start to finish this took only a couple days. His crew (5) showed up 15 minutes early and got right to work and didn't stop until the job was done! How bout that?? Rare to find these days. They were all very polite and respectful not only to me, but to my neighbor's and their property. They checked with me throughout the entire process to make sure that I was satisfied. (who told them I was picky?) They checked every branch on my "lightening tree" to ensure that it was safe for the future, and gave me reassurance that all of my trees are healthy. They actually left my yard cleaner then it was before they arrived!!!!! There are no words to express how grateful I am to all of them. I will definitely ask them back and I would highly recommend them (and did to my neighbor's).

NW Arbor Care did a great job - I would recommend them to anyone considering tree removal and trimming.
Description of Work: Mark Griffiths understands customer service. He arrived promptly to provide a bid to have one tree removed, trim a very large limb close to our house, and trim 3 medium sized maple trees. Once I agreed to his bid, he was able to fit us in to his schedule within 2 days, and he and his crew arrived right on the time as promised!. They did a great, "surgical" job, and there was no damage to the adjacent landscape or house. The crew cleaned-up the work area, and generously chipped-up some limbs I had cut earlier in the week, free of charge. To top it off, his invoice came in slightly below his estimate. I will definitely call on NW Arbor Care when I need more tree trimming and removal, and I have already recommended Mark to my neighbors.

Mark came out to give us an estimate the same day that I called to ask him about his tree service. We have 3 very large trees in the front yard that we simply wanted trimmed where there were dead branches, especially near electrical wires. We were also interested in having more sunlight in the front yard so that grass would grow easier. Mark suggested a pretty thorough pruning of the trees so that plenty of sunlight could come into the front yard. His estimate was a little higher than what we were hoping to spend so he worked with us on the pricing and gave what I think was a great deal (and was competitive to the other estimate we had). The day of, his team of 5 guys came out and climed the trees wearing regular shoes (not cleats) and thinned out the trees. We could not be happier with the result. They were very professional and are hard workers. I will definitely have Mark do any additional arbor care that we would like to have done. Great job!

If I could give them an A+ I would. They got us in quickly for a quote. They didn't have anyone scheduled for the next day and offered a discount if we were willing to schedule right then. The cost was SIGNIFICANTLY less than we were expecting and since they have such glowing reviews we thought we'd go ahead and do it. They came the next day while we were at work, and we came home to a very tidy pile of wood. We were thrilled with the work and will use them again if we need any work on our other trees.

They were excellent. Their price was not cheap, but it was worth for the work. There were two to five guys and should something come up afterwards, he told me to call them and they would take care of it and they wouldn't charge me for that. They were very accommodating and they helped me out with couple of other things, which was great. The quality of their work was great.
Description of Work: Northwest Arbor Care is getting my house ready to go on the market. They cleaned up all the beds in my yard, pressure washed my house roof, did the gutters, laid new bark mulch on all the beds, re-graveled the driveway, and put in some post with some solar lights on the end. They did a lot of stuff with tree trimming and that kind of work costs a lot of money I think. They cleaned up really well and liked that. They cut the trees on all sides because it was all going under my neighbor's property. I really appreciate them because I didn't give them any instructions. They made it look natural. They also cleaned up everything.
