About us

Hello, my name is Mark Griffiths and I am the owner of NW Arbor Care LLC. I grew up in the greater Northwest. After high school, I joined the United States Marine Corps where I was taught punctuality, a strong work ethic, as well as integrity. Later I became a King Crab Fisherman in Alaska, where I was tested mentally and physically. After ten years in Alaska, I worked for Aspluhnd Tree Experts where I earned my journeyman certificate, and later transferred to WestCoast Tree Care as a Foreman. This is where I learned the residential side of the industry. When I started NW Arbor Care LLC (formerly Northwest Arbor Care) in 2003 my sole vision was to instill my life experiences in my business.

Mark from NW Arbor care came out give an initial estimate during the summer. He walked the property with me and advised which trees would benefit from some pruning in addition to the windsail issue I had with the fir and the height issue I had with the plum. I waited until fall to do the work, and Mark was still willing to honor the initial estimate. On the scheduled date, Mark and his crew arrived a bit early (surprised me, but OK). We did a walk through so that the crew knew what was to be pruned. They took care to identify sensitive areas in the lawn and garden so that they would not trample other plants or damage them with falling limbs. I appreciate that a lot since we have put so much effort over so many years into our garden. The crew of 8 divided and conquered with all of the pruning. A couple climbed into trees to do the cutting. Others caught limbs or used pole pruners. And others hauled everything to their chipper (debris was chipped and then delivered to a compost facility in the neighborhood). The plum was obviously pruned to be shorter. Pruning in other trees was more subtle from a distance but obvious from below -- no more crossing branches, no dead wood, a cleaner interior. I had to ask if they did the big fir tree but once they pointed out where they thinned, I could see it. And now that we've gotten some winter winds, I'm glad they did the work. When they were finished, the foreman did a walkthrough with me to make sure they did everything to my satisfaction. I asked them to skirt up an oak tree a bit higher which they did. And with that, I was very pleased with the work and look forward to seeing how the trees grow next season.
Description of Work: I hired Northwest Arbor care to reduce windsail on a very tall fir tree, to reduce a plum tree that had grown taller then we wanted, and to remove deadwood and crossing branches in several other trees on our property. After reviewing what needed to be done with the crew, they got to work doing the pruning and cleaning up all debris. It took only about 4 hours for the crew of 8 workers.

We hired Northwest Arbor Care after reading strong Angie's List reviews. They came the same week we called and provided a written estimate to take down a large tree in our front yard, to make space for a landscape project. They performed the project in under one hour, cleaned up well after themselves, were professional and courteous. Would strongly recommend.
Description of Work: Took down large tree (approx 30 ft tall) standing 4 feet away from a new fence.

1. The bid: Mark was prompt and efficient with his bid. We received 6 bids for the work and Mark's was the best for what we wanted. Mark was honest and upfront and didn't try to "discover" for work to be done such as additional trees needing pruning etc. He also talked with my neighbor for the additional work they wanted done and gave us all a great Angie's discount and combined work bid. 2. The job: The crew arrived precisely on-time. The whole crew walked through what the entire job entailed so that everyone was on the same page as to our expectations. They worked very hard to get all the work completed in under five hours. We threw a monkey wrench into the system by adding an additional tree to be completely removed. This tree was the one leaning over a roof and on a steep bank so it was a difficult removal, but they did great! They reclimbed a couple of topped trees to cut additional branches that were going to block our view in the future. Crew chief, Chris, stood on our deck and directed the additional pruning to be sure it was exactly what we wanted. They also reduced the stump height on two of the trees. 3. The crew completely cleaned up all debris, swept or blew the sawdust away. The crew was also very polite and great to work with. Chris walked the job after it was completed to be sure we were happy with the work. 4 Overall Impression: This is a great crew of people. They are all very professional and likeable. No hidden costs or upping final costs because of a "mis-bid" or the job being larger than expected. Were very fair with the cost of additional tree removal )gave us a another discount on that one too). We highly recommend this crew. We will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: NW Arbor Care helped us and our neighbor with a combined job of view maintenance. Removed: 4 very large Douglas fir trees (including one leaning over a roof and one storm damaged tree) 1 40' Hawthorn Topped: 4 Douglas firs 5 cedar trees 2 cherry trees Clean-up and remove all branches and debris We asked that all chipped material be blown onto property for mulch Left trunk rounds stacked nicely for splitting and firewood

We also had another quote to do the same thing for $8000.00 from another tree service. I checked Angies list and the other service had more than a few dings in their ratings. I looked up other providers and found Northwest Arbor Care. I called Mark and he came out the day I called and gave me an estimate that came in at half the other guys cost. Needless to say with that and the high ratings I scheduled him right away. The day the work was scheduled, Mark and his crew of 9 showed up just prior to 8am and got to work. They quickly did all of the work, cleaned and chipped the branches and cut the trunks into 16" rounds for firewood. It was raining the entire time but they didn't have any problem getting it done. I was very impressed with the service and will have them out when needed and would happily recommend them to anyone who needs the service.

Very professional, excellent work. Everything was done exactly as we'd asked, and they left the yard cleaner than they found it. Trees look great. Right after we scheduled the service, but before the service date, one of the trees we had planned to simply prune blew over in a windstorm. Mark sent his crew over to take of that tree right away, before the service date, at no additional charge. Highly recommended!

Their price was impressively low so I waited for them to show up. When I asked why they didn't arrive as agreed, they said they couldn't find the house. I wish they had called and advised us of their problem. They are worth waiting for .
Description of Work: Mark removed a large branch from a Fir tree in our backyard. The branch had broken, but not severed, close to the trunk, It was hanging somewhat precariasly over a rather fragile shed. Mark removed it, lowered it safely and left our property as good as new.

We had a cherry tree in our front yard that we wanted to get removed as its roots were damaging our driveway. Mark took our address over phone and came by and left us a quote at the door. That was great! When we decided to hire them, they did the tree removal super efficiently, and did not leave the place in a mess. They sent another person in a few hours for getting the stump grinding done. We had a great experience and would hire them again!

This was one reason we joined Angie's List - to find someone reputable and well reviewed to come help us with our poor trees! Another company, not on Angie's List - made 2 apts. with us and never showed up for either (for an estimate). Delightfully, this company was different. Mark showed up when he said he would for our estimate, walked through our front and back yards with my husband and talked about our trees (we have over 100 foot trees that had broken limbs, weak limbs, and just wanted them assessed and trimmed back into good health) - both re their health, possible issues with future storms and their closeness to our home etc. When the apt. day came, his crew called to confirm they were on their way and showed up at the time they said they would. They did a LOT of work (I felt the price extremely reasonable), and cleaned up all resulting debris completely. When they were done, I was shown the end results, and had a nice talk about their current health. I felt the service was done by a company that really cares about and understands what trees need for continued health, and that they understood it was important to my husband and I, to not just cut them down. Highly recommend
Description of Work: Broken limbs that were wedged or were hanging by a bit of bark were removed, one tree was trimmed due to closeness to our home and it's lopsided shape (low hanging, heavy, drooping branches were removed), a second tree which has a potential to hit our home should it come down in a storm, had a lot of work done to shape, remove weak limbs, and a 3rd tree which had the most broken limbs, was carefully trimmed with all dead limbs removed.

They were prompt to come out for an estimate. Because they had an opening in their schedule, they were able to do the work immediately (the next day). All the work was done professionally. They forgot to take the wood and required a follow up call with Mark, but then they came promptly to get it. This was a minor thing and overall the experience was great. We would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: We removed 3 dying trees - a huge hemlock that was rotting, a flowering cherry, and a mugo pine. This also included stump grinding and removing the wood.

Loved them! From the competitive bid (which was 10mos old but the Owner still honored!) to the awesome crew of about 3 trucks and 6-8 guys they came in right on time at 8:30am and finished by 11am! They were totally quick and stacked the chopped down wood so neatly I was impressed. My only issue is that my idea of "level" and that of the company varied greatly. By no means is the cleared area ready for asphalt, we have to have debris removers come back out. The other nit-pick that I have is my quote was for 4 stumps, yet once they got in there >4 stumps needed to be grinded. Instead of calling me to let me know and quote me an additional per stump estimate, they just left when they grinded the 4th stump. Again, I have to either invest in my own pick-axe or hire a clean up crew to dig up the additional 6 smaller stumps. But, overall, I would definitely use them again and highly suggest them to anyone! Maybe my advice is to ensure the lines of communication stay open and you let them know EXACTLY what you need. Maybe stay onsite and not go to work, would be another benefit of getting it all done that day.
Description of Work: Needed to have a 10' x 30' area leveled so we can put tar on the top for more parking space. There were 2 large Evergreens to cut down and 4 stumps to grind. We also asked them to "windsail" a different set of Evergreens so that we wouldn't have as much breakage when this winter hit. The last ask was to see if the crew would stock pile our chopped wood into a pile on the side of our home.

The quote was for 4 stumps and 4 stumps where ground. A stump grinder is not a excavator. A stump grinder does not remove dirt. It is used to grind stumps.

Mark. the business owner, came approximately two weeks before the scheduled date to give us a written estimate. The estimate was very competitive in comparison to other bids. He was able to quickly select a date that fit our schedule. This was originally Monday the 19th, but was postponed to Friday the 23rd because of very unfavorable weather conditions. The weather didn't seem to have improved much by the Friday, but the crew arrived at 7:30am and worked very quickly. The crew included six people from NW Arbor Care and two subcontractors for stump grinding. It is worth noting that only one climber was assigned and they were still able to finish within the estimated time. Cleanup was finished and the crew was completely done by 2:30pm the same day. The crew removed all brush and small branches with a chipper and disposed of all yard waste at the city's facilities. Per our agreement, larger logs and trunk rounds were left for us to use as firewood. The crew stacked some of this for us even though they were not required to do so. Overall, the results are perfect. We would particularly like to thank Chris, the climber, for quickly and safely taking down the two largest trees in less-than-ideal weather. We plan to ask NW Arbor Care to return in a few months to deal with several other trees abutting another neighbor's property.
Description of Work: Northwest Arbor Care removed twelve unwanted trees (below 30 feet tall) and two very large unwanted trees (above fifty feet tall) from our back yard. This included five trees in a confined area between our house and the next nearest house, which our neighbors had asked us to remove. We also requested stump grinding. Access to our yard is limited, so all equipment must fit through a single gate appx. three feet wide.

Mark arrived within an hour of my calling to arrainge for an estimate. He was very friendly and professional. He examined the work area and gave me a price that was competitive of others that I had received previously. We scheduled the work for the next day. Mark's crew arrived on time and after consulting with me on the work that I requested, to insure that we were on the same page, they got started. What a great crew Mark has! No messing around at all! Very professional and courteous. You could see right away that they have been working together for awhile. No standing around, just moving right through it. They got the job done in a couple of hours, including all the chipping up of branches and leaves. The surrounding area was completely cleaned up as if they were never there! Great job! Great guys! Will recommend them! Thank you, Mark and Northwest Arbor Care!

We were a bit hesitant at first because the time allotted to the job seemed insufficient. But NW Arbor's crew was professional from start to finish: every man worked very efficiently and we are highly impressed and recommend Northwest Arbor Care without hesitation. They completed a difficult job in record time!
Description of Work: The crew at Northwest Arbor Care finished cutting several large alder tree stumps, removed already felled trees and cut down a large spruce. The spruce was chipped and spread over an area in our backyard where NW Arbor Care also lopped and scattered branches. A full clean-up was done at job's conclusion.

We had two very large cedars on our that were in trouble. One had a forked trunk and the split was growing, which meant either cabling the forked trunks together or taking it down. While it might have been salvageable, we felt uneasy about having that looming over the garage and decided to have it taken down. The other was meshed in with the first, had been struck by lightning at one point, and would have remained lopsided once the first cedar was gone, so it had to go too. The crew showed up on time, and did a great job taking down the trees. They took care to avoid damage to the nearby shrubs and plants. When the job was done, they called someone who came by and promptly picked up all the rounds (except for a few we asked to leave). We also asked them to grind the stumps so we could replant and they did a great job.

It was okay. They left a mess and I had to have them come back to clean up. I asked them to trim the trees so that the foliage was not over the roof, assuming that they would use a hand trimming method which is better for the tree. I was not able to be at home, but they assured me that they would do a good job. When I got home, I found that they were using saws for trimming, contrary to what I expected. They also cut some of the branches down to the trunk, rather then just cutting them back. If I was going to have a tree removed, I would use them again, but not for tree trimming.

I try my best to make everyone happy, but every once in a while, I have a customer that thinks they know how to do my job better than me.What she wanted me to do would have left long stubs on this tree that would have just died back .I am sorry if you are not happy ,but I used my knowledge and experience to prune it properly. As far as the brush and trash that was left,I personally inspected the area, and my crew not only cleaned up our debris, but we cleaned up all the other older debris and trash that was there. We are not responsible for the other tenents mess.

The crew was personable and respectful of my property. Will definitely use again and will definitely recommend to my friends who need arbor care services.

Very happy with the service. Mark was great and knowledgeable. The service was performed quickly and safely (some trees directly above or very close to our house) and we would recommend them. The reason for the "B" was that the clean up, while well done, they still left many smaller branches that we needed to go around and clean up ourselves. But considering the amount of work they did all around the house, I suspect that it is tough for them to get every little last branch cleaned up. Also, they missed a small patch of ivy on one tree, but small enought that I could remove myself. Work was otherwise well done.

Andrew showed up right on time. He gave me an estimate of $220 + tax to take out the two stumps and proceeded to remove them. It took an hour exactly as he had predicted it would. His estimate was half what another company had estimated ($450), and the machine he used apparently was smaller than what the other company was going to use because he managed to get his machine up three steps into position so that he was able to grind out the stump without damaging my other plants. I am very pleased with how efficiently he did the job and the care he took to avoid damaging anything around the stumps. As he explained before he did the work, he did not remove the cedar chips, so anyone using his service should understand that they will have wood chips to clean up. However, he pointed out that the cedar chips make landscape excellent mulch, and I plan to spread them in other parts of my yard.
Description of Work: He ground out two very large cedar stumps, one of which was next to a fence, up a couple of stairs, and surrounded by ferns and aralias. The other was in a more open area with easy access.

Mark showed up 1/2 hour early, which was a little inconvenient at the time, but he was very kind and I was even more won over when I saw his two great big sweet dogs in the back of his truck. He gave me an estimate for the work I wanted done, and when I asked when he could do it, he started to say in the next day or two. Then he thought for a moment and said he could pull the shrub right then and there for free, if we didn't mind doing the cleanup. We didn't mind. He pulled it in less than five minutes and helped us load it up into my truck. There was a decent amount of dirt to sweep off of the sidewalk, but it only took about 40 minutes. Well worth the effort to have this awful shrub pulled for free. I thought that was great business.
