Erik Nye The Tree Guy

It was difficult to get Erik to schedule. He's a free spirit and it's hard to pin him down. If I wasn't flexible in my schedule, I would have gone with another option. Once we got him on-site (after a reminder phone call - they arrived in the afternoon instead of 9am like pre-arranged) he and his helper did a fine job of pruning two fruit trees that were in bad shape from neglect. Next spring will tell if these trees will like their new styles. Erik and his helper wanted the wood from 3 dead wild cherry trees that we needed taken out and the trees were in a tight area and next to my trailer. They managed to remove them and not ding the trailer or the fence. I don't know if I got a great value for my money, but I think they did a good job on the trees.

I appreciated that he was overwhelmed with the big deal he offered but he did not turn up twice. I did all the chasing and felt I gave him a chance to catch up. To wait around for a now show twice is unacceptable with no contact or apology. Will not use him ever. His idea of an appointment was "lets play it by ear" so unprofessional!

He did a very good job of trimming the tree. He had to climb up into the center of the tree using all the appropriate gear. He made the tree look much better and assured us that it was safe and we need not worry about any strong winds bothering it. He is a very friendly man who we felt was very knowledgeable about his trade. He was not extremely easy to make an appt with as it took several calls to make arrangements. He was a little late arriving and did not come prepared to haul away the clippings. We were willing to take care of them ourselves, but felt he should have been prepared and brought a truck or trailer. He only had a small car.

Erik was very prompt and very effective. I was afraid we would have to remove a large juniper tree in the yard that we really want to keep. He provided advice on watering and fertilizing the tree. We asked him to look at several other trees and shrubs on our property. He provided a quote and came back the next day and did the work. Work was well done and he provided advice about care of the trees and shrubs as he went. Very nice, very professional.

I got the service provider, Erik, on the phone one time and agreed to meet Friday of that week, exact time to be determined Friday AM. Friday AM I could not get through to him by phone, voicemail or text that day or following up a week later. He had good Angie's List ratings in the past but, some very poor ones more recently. I am guessing he maybe just got too busy after the Big Deal offer. That guess, along with he was friendly to talk to and seemed to want to do good work the one time I got through to him is why I am just giving a "C" grade vs. others that had similar problems said "F"

Erik Nye did a great job with providing a service that was fast and pain free. His price was fair which is why I chose him. After talking with him for a couple days, procuring a quote on a Tuesday. He was quick enough to start the job on the Thursday after. He cut the first tree down, cut it up, and left at lunch to pick up the wood chipper. He returned after a couple hours, chipped the branches and started on the second tree. He and his coworker started on the next tree, but only cut it up half way. I would have given him a perfect rating, however, he left the wood chipper and the half cut tree overnight. And than cut that last tree on Friday. In addition to the however, the wood chipper was left over the weekend and the remaining firewood was not picked up until the Wednesday after the weekend. Overall, Erik Nye recieved a good rating. I would recommend his service if you want to be frugal or in a time crunch.

It is hard to get a hold of him to set up an appointment. We had a scheduled date for him to come but he never did.

He had no truck for the branches.Put into his friends SUV.No ladder,climbed along the top of cedar fence to trim and not much of a clean up.

I purchased the deal on 9/17, I did receive an email thanking me for the purchase. I sent 3 follow up emails to schedule and finally received a response on 10/7. I found the service provider to be very unprofessional as he made several references to asking when we would be on vacation so he could use the hot tub. While I know he was not serious it was uncomfortable speaking with him. He was to come for a bid but was very anxious to perform work on the spot. I will not make further contact with Erik.

I was very pleased with Eric's honesty and information given to me about the tree. He said he would be happy to do what I wanted to the tree but that the tree would not look the same if I cut it back the way I thought it should and that the roots wouldn't interfer with a patio. He then told me he would refund my money since I decided that I would go along with his recommendation regarding the tree. I would certainly recommend him to anyone that needed guidance about a tree. He knew alot about them.

He emailed me after the purchase and I called him and set up a time for him to come out. He came out and said he would start the work the next day. It has been weeks since then and he has still been unable to come out. I have tried to contact him and many times he will not return my phone calls.

I no longer wish to do business with "Erik Nye the Tree Guy". Mr. Nye has been very difficult to get a hold of; I started calling him on 9/20/13 and left 2 or 3 messages for him over the course of a week. and when I did happen to get him on the phone he assured me that he would be at the property that day or the next to look at the work. He finally looked at the job a week later. The last time I spoke to him on the phone (10/2/13), while he was eating a bag of chips in my ear, we agreed on the scope and cost of the work to be completed (at my rental property). He assured me that he would get it done by the end of week (10/4). He was supposed to let me know when he would be there so I could alert my tenants. He never called nor has he performed the work; I have not heard from him since (10/2); today is 10/8/13. My patience has reached its limit. He has convinced me that he is not a reputable business person capable of meeting the needs of the customer or keeping his word. I would not do business with him again at any price.

When I purchased the Big Deal I sent a message providing my phone number and when to call me. Erik responded by Angie's List message/email that day that he would contact me within the week. He has not contacted me and I had other bidders lined up waiting for an answer.

With the exception of an initial email on my order date of 9/19/2013, this contractor made no attempt to contact me. I emailed, called and texted him. Finally, when we spoke briefly (I had to call him) he said he would be out for an estimate. We planned to meet at 10am on 9/27. He did not arrive. I will call some of your other recommendations, but will not pre-pay again. My trees should be trimmed already and I should not have to be requesting a refund. To clarify: this contractor provided no services.

Absolutely the best. He and his partner were punctual, clear, honest. They did an absolutely superb job, then cleaned up after themselves. As long as he is in the tree business, I will use him. No question about it.

Erik came out and gave us a very reasonable estimate. We needed to get our stumps removed before our fence was put inand he came out on Christmas Eve to make sure it got done. He was over an hour late, but I expected that based on reviews I had seen on Yelp. I called after an hour and he said they had truck trouble and were just leaving. I would have preferred a proactive call, but he's a nice guy who runs on his own time. Our yard was cleaner than when they started! They did a fantastic job trimming our tree, it looks beautiful and is no longer in the way of our neighbors.

They also completely swept up debris and did additional pruning to the tree where it was needed. I was very pleased with the quickness of the response and the thoroughness of the job and clean-up.

Erik did not arrive at the scheduled time; he did call later in the evening to explain his lateness (a religious ceremony had gone longer than expected and he was unable to call). When he arrived, he was enthusiastic and passionate about the measures that could be taken to save our tree, which we greatly appreciated. The other arborists who came all said that our tree could not be saved, but Erik has several ideas for keeping it alive. He seemed knowledgeable and wiling to work hard to do the job well; his bid price was excellent. In the end, we decided to do the job ourselves, but we used several of Erik's ideas for rescuing the surviving tree. It seems to be thriving now, and we are thrilled. Thank you, Erik!

He is reliable. He did nice job. He cleaned up everything when he left and it looked as if they weren't even there. I am going to use him again.

I phoned Erik, having read his reviews on Angie's List, the day after a windstorm caused extensive damage to my 50+ year old dogwood tree. He was helpful, polite and promised to stop by that afternoon. He arrived, right on schedule. He looked at the damaged tree and assured me that the tree was not dead or dying. He also quickly offered to remove the branches weighing heavily on my phone and cable lines, at no cost to me. Using a pole saw, he did this and then gave me an estimate on the remaining work. I agreed to his price and he promised to come as soon as he could - the windstorm had caused a lot of community damage and he was busy. He showed up the following day while I was at work, performed all of the work as promised and everything was complete by the time I came home. He meticulously cleaned the yard, even scooping up after my dog. I am recommending him to all of my friends and have also requested bids on three additional projects that I had planned to do this spring. He was thorough, friendly, and true to his word - kind of a rarity these days. I would have no hesitation giving him the highest rating!

I had rodents in my attic and the pest control people told me that I needed to cut back the trees and bushes that allowed the rats to climb up to my roof line. I love my trees and bushes and really didn't want to cut things back but I was freaking out about the loud chewing sounds that were coming from my attic. I called Erik Nye with a touch of hysteria in my voice and told him my situation. He told me he had worked with several homeowners who had the 'rodent super highway' foliage problem. He and his partner were at my house in less than an hour (!) to look at my yard. My house is very close to my neighbors so I've always been reluctant to cut back the foliage because I don't want to be looking in their windows. Erik completely understood that I wanted to be ultra conservative but still get things cut down from the roof and away from the house. He gave me a very reasonable estimate that day which was a Friday and said he and his crew could come do the work on Sunday. I was really happy that I could get it done that fast as then the pest control people could get the last rodent access holes plugged up on Monday. The bamboo by a hard-to-reach part of my roof prevented the pest control people from setting up a ladder to install some missing flashing. On Sunday Erik and 2 workers showed up on time. He came in the house to look out the windows to see the foliage that I count on to provide visual separation from the house next door. Several times he stopped work to show me what they were doing and to get my opinion about cutting more or stopping. I really appreciated this. My neighbor's tree hangs over my roof. I had already talked to her about the fact I needed to remove some of the branches hanging over my roof. I assured her that we would be making only the minimum number of cuts to protect the beauty of the tree and to provide protection to my roof access. When Erik was working on the tree, the neighbor came out and started ragging on him. He was as diplomatic as possible but she wouldn't stop so he finally had to tell her the law says everything that hangs over my property line can be cut down as long as I didn't kill the tree. He explained that he had seen property owners behave in that drastic fashion and pointed out that I was making minimal cuts. If I hadn't told her that I would be trimming the tree and if she had not been home, I am betting she would not even notice as the tree looks as beautiful as always but is no longer part of the rodent highway. I am really happy with the entire job. I loved how quickly the work was done and with the cost. Erik and his staff were easy to deal with and he really listened to what I wanted. Definitely a job well done.

Eric was able to come the day after I called as he had another job in the neighborhood. That was a pleasant surprise. He and his crew ground out a medium stump and a large stump (taking large, exposed surface roots which spread out a few feet from the stump). Nice, fluffy, sawdusty dirt was all that was left - perfect for the garden. They also trimmed back a "hedge" of cedar trees along 50+ feet of fence. The height was almost 20 feet at one end and the branches (some up to 6 inches in diameter) had grown out several feet over our property from the neighbor's. The amount of plant debris was surprising, but they cleaned it all up, chipped it and hauled it away. Several visitors have commented on how well the job was done so I've refered them to Eric. We'll have him back next year when the big tree in the front yard needs trimming.

Didn't hire hire him. Offensive and way over-priced.

Eric came out to do the estimate the same day I called. The price was fair for the amount of work to be done. He had another job in the area so was able to do my projects the next business day. The crew were careful with plants in my gardens near the work and cleaned up all the trimmings before they left. The entire process was short and sweet.

I called to get a quote - was on vacation but returned my call a week later after he returned. He arrived on scheduled time to give a quote. While the price was a bit high, there were lots of comments about how difficult the task would be which did not build confidence in his ability or desire to do the job. I did not use this vendor.
