Description of Work: I had a leak in my upstairs toilet and contacted James to come and look at it. The scheduled time came and went and no James. I called his phones and left messages and the next day, got a message from him with an explanation that he had left his phone while out of town. He offered to find another date to come and he did come on that date. The repair was not what he or I expected, so he explained what needed to be done and we agreed to find another date when he could come back with the appropriate material. I tried to reach him a few times to set a mutually agreeable date and time, but it took several messages before I got a confirmation that he would come on the date and time when I could be there. When that date came, he was prompt, efficient, very professional and apologetic for the miscommunication. I would hire James again but would hope for better communication.

Description of Work: He's been doing all the landscaping outside of my house and he's been working all by himself. He's really precise and really clean. He can do everything, he is also going to do the drywall in my basement and work on my bathroom inside of my home as well. So far, he is great. He is very honest, conscientious and is a hard worker. He is a great example of someone you would want to hire from Angie's List!

Description of Work: Texted them and asked for a bid. Told them this was a rental house and they needed to get in contact with the management company. Again texted them on 8-25 to see if they had got ahold of management company, and again on 9-3. On 9-3 finally heard from Rainier said they dropped the ball on this bid and would leave a message with the management company. Texted Rainier again on 9-13 and asked if they were still interested and now 9-22-14 and have not heard from them since!

 + 3 moreSince James had done other work for me I called him to work on my patio. When I didn't hear from him I called him again and he said he would call me back. The next week I called him again and he said he was having lunch with his supplier and would call me. A few days later I called again and he said, "oh I was supposed to call you." I explained what I wanted done and he said he couldn't get to it until July. I asked if he could give me the estimate before that and he said yes. We agreed on June 3, 2010 at 5:30. He never showed up, haven't heard from him since. I don't know what happened. I was pleased with the other work he had done for me and he was paid promptly. If he had a reasonable explanation I suppose I would give him another chance. Puzzling situation.
Description of Work: I wanted the cement in my patio cleaned and painted. I wanted the ground leveled and pavers put in and painted.

 + 0 moreI was surprised when James came a half hour early for the estimate appointment. I had been dealing with late showers so I was impressed that he was there when he said he would be. The day he was supposed to start the job he was there early in the morning and did quite a bit of the work. The whole job took approximately 10 hours. His son worked steady and was polite and professional. He told me that he needed some more insulation and he picked it up and gave me the reciepts. I felt his price was a little high. I was pleased with his work and would certainly hire him again.
Description of Work: James and his son put insulation under the house back in place, added new insulation where needed ,put the string in securely to hold the insulation. They covered the vents, cleared out the debris under the house and spread the vapor barrior. James also did a repair to a rear garage door.

I am always confident that James will get the job done in a timely manner and in a cost friendly manner. I have used other services in the past and had some bad experiences, not with James, he's the best!!!!
Description of Work: Had a variety of issues with my house, including but not limited to electrical problems, hot tub problems, plumbing issue, etc. James came to the house and corrected all the problems in a timely and efficient manner. Also he is very conscious about correcting the problem and not padding his bill, as is sometimes common in the industry. Highly professional and competent.

 + -1 moreJames was very professional, and I was impressed by his immediate grasp of the problem and how he would do the repair. We had a hard time finding a contractor who could repair both the electrical problem and water leak, and they seemed somewhat puzzled about how to do the job. James knew exactly what needed to be done, how he would go about it, and he explained the whole process to us clearly. There were no problems during the project, he completed it in a timely manor, on budget, and everything works great. He even stopped by late one night after work on another job, to help us with a completely unrelated emergency repair. I highly recommend James for any home repair or remodel. This guy can do everything and he does it well! He is our go to guy for all our home repairs from now on.
Description of Work: We had an old water and electrical line that ran from our home to our barn across a stream. We wanted the lines removed from the stream and relocated to an adjacent bridge that spanned the stream. The water line had a leak in it, and the electricity to the barn had gone out. James removed the lines from the stream, repaired the water leak, redirected and connected the lines to the bridge, and fixed the electrical line problem.

 + 0 moreI gave him an A overall. I would definitely use him again. We also talked about some other projects and he seems to be very knowledgeable about many areas - an all-around handyman.
Description of Work: James and his son installed 3 toilets and valves. They removed the old toilets and cleaned up everything. They had to run to Home Depot (5-10 min away) for some extra parts that were not with the "complete kit" from Home Depot (who gave/exchanged the parts with no cost or problems). James charged a flat fee per toilet eventhough it took some extra effort on his part to complete.

 + 8 moreJames was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. He had no issues with me supplying the parts myself and charging for labor only. After reviewing the property briefly one night, he arrived for work that weekend with a clear plan of attack and every tool needed to get the job done. I could tell James takes pride in his work and it shows. Not a single complaint from me on the entire job! A true handyman, it seems he can do just about anything, and he'll be my first call for future projects.
Description of Work: All work was done on my 500sq.ft. cottage. A new electrical panel & wiring was installed, along with wall heaters, bathroom fan/heat/light combo, recessed lighting & 3-way switches. A shower was moved to another location in the house, which required cutting/jack hammering through the foundation to install a new drain & filling it back in with new concrete. Rebuilt the entire rear wall of the house and installed all new plumbing inside of it. Plumbed in the shower, kitchen sink, bathroom sink & hot water heater. A total of 4 windows were replaced.

 + 0 moreOverall it went as well as I could've hoped. Roto Rooter bid the job out for $4500 and James did the job for LESS THAN HALF of what Roto Rooter offered! But just because he is cheaper than others does not mean he doesn't do high-quality work. I was very happy with the finished product and was very impressed with how fast he got the job done.
Description of Work: Our side sewer pipe collapsed and we had to get it replaced. I called up James and he came out and finished the job in ONE DAY! I was very impressed with his work ethic. He replaced 25 feet of old clay sewer pipe and replaced it with new ABS pipe. He had to dig out both lawn and concrete to get to the pipe. He also added a clean out to the pipe as well.

 + 0 moreOutstanding! We wanted to do as much of this as possible, and James gave us tons of helpful hints. He spent several evenings here helping my husband go step-by-step through re-plumbing the tub shower and spigot, installing the new drywall, preparing it for tile and then cutting the tile. He's patient, pleasant and will allow you to do as much or as little of the work as you'd like. He's very ethical, too. When installing the venting for the new over-the-range microwave, he discovered a problem with the exhaust at the top of the house. Rather than jury-rig it, which still would have worked, he came down with the part that didn't quite fit, told us the problem and scheduled a time to come back the next day and fix it right. I really appreciate the fact that he wants it done right, even if it takes a little longer.
Description of Work: When having the lights in our kitchen replaced, the electrician recommended James for the repair of the drywall where the old lights had been. He did such an outstanding job of repairing the ceiling drywall that we asked him to help with venting the new microwave and assisting with tiling the bathroom tub surround. The original drywall quote was around $300, including materials, but we paid about $600 in all for his assistance with the rest of the work.
