The experirnce with James was great start to finish! I would use him again in a heartbeat!
Description of Work: I contacted James and set up a date and time for him to come to my new place and give me a quote on some fixes I needed done around my place. He hung a HUGE mirror that requires anchors for me in my dining room, put all new insides in 2 of my 3 toliets, Changes and fixed a couple locks, wired and installed a chandiler that I bought, changed out the washers for the faucets in my master bathroom. James is great! I even asked him for a quote to paint the downstairs of my place. We did have a little miscommuncation on what date he was going to be at my place but we resolved that very quickly and it did not happen again. James also gave me lots of tips on things that will help me around my new place.

James Meadows from Rainier Handyman Services came out ro give me a quote on replacing teh bathroom fans in several bathrooms of teh house. He gave me a quote on the fans and was also going to bid on a bathroom remodel project I have ongoing. I decided to go ahead with the fans, so i tried to cvontact him.. Over the next week and a half I left two messages letting him know I wanted to proceed with the installation of at least the two batroom fans. The company has nevere responded to any of my phone calls. Truley a disappointment. I got on Angies List to get away from unprofessional companies like this! I hope there are not too many of these types of individuals/companies in the program!

James walked the property with me, went down into the crawl space, helped me find our well box, and essentially traced the property's plumbing from the source. He then determined that our main shut-off valve was indeed damaged and needed to be replaced, but gave me a workaround should I need it until he can fix it.
Description of Work: James came out to help me figure out how my house was plumbed, where the shut-off valve is located, and to help me with my water softener. He was prompt, efficient, and really, really helpful! He is coming back to repair the shut-off valve. I would highly recommend him.

James is very friendly and professional. He worked on the problem at our mom's home for about an hour and a half, and when he was finished it was definitely fixed for the first time in a long time. The cost was slightly under the estimate, so that made us very happy. He could have charged us more, but he always does what is right, and we admire him for that. At our home he replaced the faulty heaters at a minimal charge, not much more than what it would have cost us to just buy the heaters, let alone have them installed. He was very quick and professional, and cleaned up after himself. We would highly recommend Rainier Handyman Services to anybody. We're so confident in James and his company that we have referred several friends to him for other projects. He gets and A+++ rating from us!
Description of Work: Mom had major plumbing problems, water coming out of wall by washer and washer backing up. James came out and gave us an estimate. He had to go under the house and found the problem withing minutes, even though another plumber had been out several times saying he had fixed the problem. There was a large hairball jammed tightly in piping under the house. He said the drain pipes were replaced years ago except for a small section for some unknown reason, which has now narrowed due to rust build-up. Our baseboard electric heaters were overheating the control box. He came in and found two very dangerous situations that he fixed right away. We've lived in our home for 30 years, and we're lucky it didn't catch fire. He went so far as to put in a good heat control, and when that didn't work well, he came back and replaced it with an even better high-grade one at no charge.

Rainier Garage Door was prompt with a return call, flexible with our tenant's schedule and quick in doing the repairs. They were professional and courteous.
Description of Work: These guys knew garage doors and were able to fix the same day, having the parts needed. They even upgraded higher quality parts when they didnt have what we needed for the lower price. We are out of town landlords & were able to do everything over the phone with our tenant on site with the company rep.

Never got the chance to work with this gentleman.
Description of Work: He was quite blunt that will not work with Realtors to do inspection work items. Said was messy and has had bad experiences in the past. This should be disclosed up front. Told him job would be prepaid for work to be scheduled once closed but said was too busy to mess with it. His prerogative but needs to note that in description. The rating is not on any quality of work but on experience via phone conversation.

Response from RAINIER HANDYMAN SERVICES
Yes, she is correct. There has been several times I have done work for realtors and the whole process just get too messy. The realtors loves the work, the new home owner doesn’t or expected something else or more, payments pushed to one party or the other, fingers get pointed etc. etc.. One thing she is mistaken on, is that I will work with a realtor if they own the home, or if they are setting things up for the home owner. The home owner must sign the work authorization form not the realtor. I am however befuddled about her comment about being up front. When she stated what she needed and the situation I informed her of my position and rather politely declined the opportunity. I believed myself to be quite courteous and professional. The grade seems to reflect more emotion rather than on my business etiquette.

This was an excellent process, James was given the initial inspector's assessment and after an initial walk-through gave us several options for the major work that needed to be done. He was very honest about the costs and difficulty of each of the jobs and was able to incorporate each new fix that was not on the initial assessment report that needed to be dealt with easily and in a professional manner with great communication. Very pleased with the work he has done with no complaints. Would highly recommend hiring James for any handyman work needed to be done around the house, and will would hire him again in the future.
Description of Work: James took care of all the rehab work on our rental home including but not limited to the following; interior painting and wall repair, duct repair, landscaping, side panel repair, pressure washing, roof treatment, blinds, sprinkler repair, fountain repair, faucet repair, outside light repaid, and all the other small repairs that needed to be done.

I called James and set up an appointment for November 23 to bid on 6 or 7 items needing work in my house. Flooring, plumbing, bathroom vanity installation, painting and a few other jobs. Since the appointment was the day after Thanksgiving I decided to confirm the appointment on Thanksgiving day by leaving a voicemail and sent a text. James responded via text asking me to reschedule. I agreed and asked for a suggestion for a new date. He advised a time and day incompatible with my work schedule and I returned a text advising other suggested times I could meet him. No answer. On November 28th I sent a text, and quot;If not interested please advise.and quot; He replied interested and asked for that Friday which did not give me enough time to ask for time off from work. I responded the following Friday, Saturday or Sunday would work best, James agreed to Friday, December 7th. I asked if 12 noon would work or what time worked for him. There was no reply and James was no show.

Overall having the transfer switch installed by Rainier Handyman was positive experience. James is a busy guy, so the response time of his e-mail lagged a bit, but he always answered within a reasonable time frame. He arrived slightly later than the appointment time, but he communicated his delay in advance. The work installing the transfer switch was done quickly, accurately and professionally. I have no issues with the quality of his work, nor will I hesitate to use Rainier Handyman Service in the future.

Here I had to repair a hole in a ceiling where a tree limb fell through the roof. It was a very old, yellow, popcorn ceiling which I then had to paint. The work went off without a problem. The house was covered from top to bottom in plastic and almost 5 coats were rolled on to get it bright white and even. While Michael gave me a “C” on pricing, it was truly a fair price for the amount of work which was involved.

Initially spoke with him on 7/7, described the work to be done, then followed up with a text message describing the work and my address so he could schedule a visit for the estimate. Didn't hear back until 7/21, at which point he apologized for not getting back to me, and scheduled a visit on 7/22. The visit and estimate went well, prices seemed reasonable (about $1000 for 200 square feet of linoleum removal including diamond-blade scraping of the concrete slab), very friendly guy and good with dogs. But then I never got a quote from him. I texted him again (which he had stated as his preferred method of communication) on 7/27 asking on the status of the quote. The next I heard back from him was 8/6, saying I'd have a quote that night. The quote never showed up.
Description of Work: Requested an estimate on removal of linoleum in my kitchen. He came out, reviewed the work to be done, and provided a verbal estimate.

This is odd as I did give him a quote and pricing, that’s how he was able to indicate the cost in his comments. Sometimes my e-mails end up in peoples junk folders or are blocked by spam filters. I hope when people read this they check those folders before posting such low scores against someone. When I did not hear back from Tim I made the assumption he went with someone else. That of course is part of this business. I wish he would have simply called me back. I do know he was not happy about paying much more to someone else for the same work I was more than willing to do. Just had to schedule it.

Strong Start, Poor Finish Initial contact and communication with Rainier Handyman Services was good. Work started right away despite winter weather. I was pleased with the progress made in the first several weeks and understood that it might take a little longer because of rain, cold, etc especially the job required digging and putting down concrete. The early stages of the project had me optimistic. I was called away on business for 90 days, and work and communication began to ramp off. Months passed. The contractor assured me that the finishing touches, including the wiring, would be completed in only several more visits when he got around to it. The wiring was finally and quot;completedand quot; and quot;up to codeand quot; and I hired a pump and filter company to come and replace the old electronics and controls. The pump and filter company would not work on the hot tub because the wiring was NOT up to code. I asked them to contact the contractor so they could tell him how to fix it, per his contract, before they continued work. I am still unclear what the outcome of this conversation was. After many more unanswered phone calls, texts and emails, the contractor informed me that it would be weeks before he could come back and work on anything because he was in the middle of another job that and quot;had to be finishedand quot;. I had to hire a REAL electrician at an additional $800 to bring the breaker box, wiring and GSI up to code. I then had it inspected for additional cost before I ended up wasting more of the pump and filter company's time. As is, I have not herd from the contractor in 1 month and there is still a panel missing and broken window. I'm afraid he took my final payment on my good faith he'd come back, yet he has not. The Good*The creative way the hot tub was lowered so that there is more room in the cabana*The drainage system with the sump pump means that the old water will no longer rot the wood decking*The roof is great quality/workmanship*The panel walls of the cabana can be removed by taking several screws out so that you can have an open view*Contractor found old speakers and a old TV monitor to add inside the cabana The Bad*Never completed the annoying little things what bring the project together (missing one wall, broken window, wiring wrong, did not fill in hole drilled to run wires to the breaker box, exposed screws)*Poor/no communication especially after I made the final payment before the work was completed (my rookie mistake)*Job took many more months even with the and quot;grace periodand quot; allowed by my 90 day business trip*Had to hire others to finish and redo electrical work*Work site was too far from company's location Overall Experience - D (happy with initial work, not finished, over budget, poor communication, took forever)Price - B (initially hired because price was fairest, was candid about the price of replacing the roof)Quality - B (work that WAS completed, especially roof, concrete work, decking was good)Responsiveness - D (I made it a point to call, text or email everyday for awhile... hardly herd back, took other jobs after starting mine that had to be finished before he could continue on mine)Punctuality - D (job went MONTHS longer than expected, job site is too far for contractor)Professionalism - D (some good workmanship, bad communication, unfinished project, took forever)
Description of Work: Handyman removed hot tub from old deck, tore up rotten planks, dug pit and filled it in with a concrete/rebar base, replaced hot tub, built new decking around hot tub, constructed drainage area complete with sump pump, replaced rotten roof of cabana with new roof and shingles, replaced rotten walls of cabana with removable panels (did not complete), wired hot tub to house (did not complete, not up to code), nailed up cord lighting, provided second use speakers and monitor.

This is too bad. let me first start by saying I have never taken anyone’s money and not delivered. If you read through all of my reviews you should get the sense that I do not ever want to be one of “those” contractors and that I truly do this for the enjoyment of doing unique jobs and meeting great people. I typically go out of my way to go far beyond the scope of work agreed upon. In fact, this customer mentions speakers. I gave those to him as I pulled them from another job and new he needed some for this project. I also found him a flat screen T.V. for his hot tub. I keep other customers and their projects in mind when I’m working on others. Try and recycle and share I guess. I’m not going to hit his comments point by point, but it was mentioned as well that the electrical was not to code. Well, If I tell someone what things are supposed to be and then they say can you just do this…well I’ll do what I can to make their wish happen. He got burned by another company because of what he requested. The hot tub should have been replaced as some of my help and myself included almost fell through the thing it was so rotted. Regardless, I did what I said I would do and was willing to make the minor repairs on the gazebo as well. Minor was the key. When I had to replace the entire roof, some support structures two panels and windows as well, that became a bit more than minor. He did say at one point the whole thing looked awesome and that it should be on my web site. I have a ton of references from here as well as all the other work done for non members. Ask for them if your concerned.

Mr. Meadows was extremely efficient. In our initial phone conversation, he asked what I needed help with. I have had a problem with a cold draft in and around my microwave for years during the cold months. After scheduling a date and time, he came out, not to look at the project, but jump right in and get the job done. What a pleasant surprise! I frankly have not had very good luck with contractors (even on Angies List). They are not personable or sensitive to the small but important jobs that a homeowner might require. They seem to be looking for just the big ticket projects. Thank you Rainier Handyman Services...

James was a joy to work with. He did two major projects and several smaller repairs and all of them were done to a very high standard. He did an excellent job making the new floor section, trim and paint blend in with the rest of the room. He understood what I wanted to do and how I wanted it to look (for example, small grout lines in the granite tile). He has excellent skills and is thoughtful about troubleshooting problems in an older house and suggesting reasonable solutions. He cleaned up after himself every day and also cleaned up as he worked. His son helped him on occasion and I enjoyed watching the interactions between them and the mutual respect they have for each other. I've already hired James again to do some additional projects and will continue to do so as my budget allows. He does tend to run late sometimes but he always calls or texts to let me know what time he will arrive.
Description of Work: Removed an old woodstove, raised a section of floor and installed granite tile on the new section. Paint, trim and carpet repair to match new area. Installed slate tile (had to remove several layers of subfloor). Repaired plaster cracks and holes.

I found James on Angies List, read the reviews and saw that he lived in the area and called for an estimate. He gave a very fair estimate that fit within what the insurance company would pay for my water loss. I had decided to go ahead and extend the project and purchased enough flooring to complete the project. Not knowing how much trim and what type was needed, James came in and got all the flooring down, estimated the trim and very kindly, went to Lowes and picked up everything we needed to complete the project. I also had him return to power wash my driveway, sidewalks and patio. All this was included in the price stated. James was extremely professional, on time, and considerate to take care of my surroundings. He kept his area tidy, cleaning up after each area as he completed working. I was very impressed with his work ethic, as I have been disappointed with people I've contracted in the past not completing a job or completing it poorly. The flooring looks wonderful and completely changes the look of my home. They completed the power washing a day or so later and my outside looked much nicer. I was very happy with the work and James was a pleasure to have in my home for the 3 days it took to complete the project. I am always apprehensive to give someone I don't know the run of my house, but he made it very comfortable. I will definately will recommend James to friends in the area.
Description of Work: I hired James @ Rainier Handyman to install laminate flooring in several areas of my home after a water loss. The area of the water loss was small, but I decided to upgrade my flooring and extend the area to be replaced. I also found out that James could do some power washing that I needed done.

From the first phone call James was very courteous and responsive. I called another handy man (their rates were in the same range - a little higher) and a dry wall specialist who's estimate, based on the information I gave him on the phone, was much higher. James showed up right on time on the morning of our first appointment. He had to return on another day to complete the job and that day he called to ask if it was okay to come earlier than our appointment. In addition to completing the ceiling work he also put up a couple of towel rails for me and curtain tie backs. The final invoice was exactly as quoted. It was a great experience with no surprises, no reschedules and a great end result. I have already passed his contact information along to several friends and will use him for projects (big and small) again.
Description of Work: We had canned lights installed (an Angies list big deal) and the dry wall repair was not included by the electrician. The lights were installed in a first floor so they had to make quite a few (20 or so) smaller holes in the ceiling to install and wire the lights. Rainier Handyman services came to do the drywall repair work to the ceiling.
