The service tech was so awesome, explained everything he was doing and all the repairs that need to be completed. I did request a reminder call which did not happen. I would suggest this vendor again just due to the service.

DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE. You have other companies that are rated higher and are comparable in price and schedule availability. Here is the story if you are interested: I have used Powers three times. First time was summer 2014. They cleaned and inspected the chimney and fireplace. Same in summer 2015 for the second visit. Except, this time they said that we MIGHT have had a chimney fire. The technician said it was ok though - he said we should have it cleaned twice a year and this would keep us okay to continue to use the fireplace normally. He said we should consider letting them install a flue liner to the tune of around $4000. So the next time I scheduled a cleaning was for 6 months later. The third and final visit was this last December and a new technician showed up. He was just finished with his 'apprenticeship' but I was reassured that he was qualified. He performed a cleaning and inspection. He told us that we have now had multiple fires in this chimney and that we should not burn in it or we might burn our house down. By the way, he thought it was smart to say that in front of my 7 year old. Thanks, it took me an hour to calm her down and now she is scared of the fireplace. How could burning a quarter of a cord of seasoned wood have caused this much damage in 6 months? We never let it burn when we are not around and have never noticed any of the many signs of a chimney that is on fire. You can google what happens. It is impressive and very noticeable to say the least. Because of the experience we had with this technician and because I am not a new homeowner, or an idiot, I decided to call other Chimney companies to get at least 2 more opinions. I called Emerald City Chimney and Chimcare. Both are highly rated on Angies List and were WONDERFUL to work with. Emerald City: They were the first to come out. The technician has been doing this for 20 years. He worked with the owner of Powers Chimney at Emerald City in the past. He saw no evidence of a chimney fire in the fireplace. I was assured that what he saw was pretty normal. He regularly sees worse. He also noticed that the cleaning job that Powers did was horrible. He offered to clean the fireplace the right way. I approved the cleaning. Chimcare: Next, these guys came out and inspected everything. They were of the same opinion that Emerald City was. Really professional and also in agreement with the fact that there was probably not a chimney fire. He then proceeded to show me why he thought there was no fire and to explain what happens in a chimney fire. A chimney fire is a big event. There would have been more evidence that this happened. When confronted with all of this information, this is what the ?Professionals? at Powers Chimney did: 1. They refused to offer me a refund. They say that there technician did a good and thorough job. I was shown evidence that he did not. 2. They refuse to apologize or even acknowledge their technicians behavior. Would have been a nice thing to do. 3. They actually claimed that the reason these other companies don?t see any evidence of fire is because of how good they cleaned it. Emerald City and I had a good laugh about that one. 4. They continue to threaten that I am going to burn my own house down. Their people skills are atrocious. 5. They refused to take my word on any of the information from the other companies, they insisted on speaking to them and seeing their invoices. Both companies welcomed that. Not the end of the world, but I didn?t appreciate that. Last but not least: The owner of this company used to work with Emerald City and went out on his own a few years back. Emerald City's take on the situation was that they were not surprised to hear this happened to me when working with Powers. I think he ripped me off, was inappropriate and has some unthoughtful and unprofessional people working for him. He can keep the cleaning fee. Keep treating people like this and he is going to need the money anyway. I absolutely welcome a rebuttal from Powers to this review.

Terrible. Tech showed up and tracked his dirty shoes across our rug, then laid an equally dirty drop cloth on the floor. He scratched the slate the stove is sitting on as he slid the stove around to remove the interior piping. Once they were removed, he took them out to his truck to clean and returned them scratched and marred. Powers offered to repaint the pipes with no guarantee the color would match the stove and we declined to do any more business with them. They refunded my $140 fee.

They were awesome. Melody at the front desk is very helpful. They were able to get the projects done quickly and also used brick that matched the existing brick on our house. We had a handful of quotes done on each piece (chimney and fireplace) and they were the best on both. Work was done quickly and efficiently. Would definitely use them again.

The guy came the clean the chimney, took out the cap and couldn't get it back on. Now I'm stuck with an open chimney and rain will get in. The guy says the cap wasn't at the right size in the first place, but I'd prefer an uncleaned chimney than the risk of water in my living room.

Response from Powers Chimney & Masonry LLC
We went out because we were hired to clean this customers chimney. A lot of times chimney caps are difficult to get off. So we took off the chimney cap. Did the chimney cleaning. The company that had originally installed the chimney cap installed one that was too small, so we were unable to get it installed again. It is not our fault that the chimney cap that was installed previously was not the right size. If we try to jam it back on it will break the flue tile. We have given the customer an option for a custom chimney cap.

They cleaned the chimney and that is it. I would think that they would clean the ash bin below the chimney floor but this did not happen. I will not use this company again as their prices were very high for the job they recommended and they didn't do a complete cleaning as was expected by the angies list deal I bought.

[Member Name Removed] According to the description of the sweep you purchased, we never stated we would clean the ash bin. Most companies do not clean this with a chimney sweep because it could take hours and have lbs and lbs of debris they remove. This is a very expensive thing to have cleaned out. Our description is to clean the fireplace and its adjoining flue. I apologize that you did not read the description and are unhappy. We did do exactly what we stated that we would do.

Right from the get go I was impressed to be contacted so quickly after my email asking for services. My appointment was set without extended delay. The boys showed up on time and finished the job quickly and cleanly. No mess left behind. I was provided with a quote for future work and told honestly that it wasn't urgent work but would benefit from the work being completed before a few winters made things worse. No high pressure sales. Will definitely use again and recommend this company to my family and friends.

Project went very well. Had a short halt while some cedar shake and flash plates were installed when the rock work was taken down to roof level. Once that was done the flues and rock work were rebuilt very quickly and with high quality. Major scaffolding was required to access the chimney. Powers had all the equipment and built the scaffolding w/o any damage to the roof or other parts of the house. Workers were courteous and kept their work place clean. Demolition is a messy business and these guys did great to control dust and debris.
Description of Work: Repaired chimney. We have a very large and steep roof with rock chimney holding 4 separate flues plus a pre-cast concrete cap that was placed 50 years prior to prevent rain from entering flues. Powers had to take the entire chimney down to roof, do some minor remedial work on the cedar shake roof, then rebuild the entire chimney. The rock work was done to return to the exact like/new condition, new flues were installed and new chimney cap installed. They obtained a stainless steel chimney cap for the whole works (not in the price given above) and installed. Major scaffolding was needed to access. All work performed professionally, cleanly. Very honest and open about some added work needed as no one could see some changes until the old chimney was taken down.

We hired this company to remove our fireplace and remove all the debris in July. The estimate went well, the price was great, and they showed up on time. During the removal, one of the men asked me if I had anything valuable in my crawlspace. It turned out that under the hearth there were several large holes in the subfloor (from the builders, not Powers). There was nothing down there, so I said no and went about my work. They finished that day. When we went and looked at it that evening, it turned out that a lot of debris (piles of brick and rubble) had been left down in the crawlspace. I had to call them in the morning and ask that the contract, which included debris removal, be fulfilled. It was done with poor grace.

The 2 man crew arrived ahead of schedule by about 15 minutes. Our roof is tall but their ladder was able to get up there so that the chimney cap could be taken off- if was not a standard cap attachment and took a little extra work to take off and then put back. They also had to thread the ladder through a big tree and were very careful with the branches. The cleaning was quick and professional, the cleanup spotless, and the work professionally done. Will use them again. Price was exactly as quoted, scheduling was very easy by phone.

Scheduling: I purchased an Angie's List deal and messaged the provider to schedule service. Their coordinator called and messaged back the same day. I was not in a rush, and was able to get an appointment for the following week. I also appreciated receiving a confirmation call the day before my service appointment. Cleaning and Inspection: A two-man crew arrived at my home promptly within the scheduled time frame. They arrived in a clearly marked van. Both were courteous and professional. I was given tips and advice on how to use my wood stove insert, which I have never used before. I only knew that the previous owners of our home hadn't cleaned it, and there was a lot of debris in the stove. The men laid down a drop cloth and proceeded with the cleaning, first from the roof and then the fireplace. When that was complete I was given an update on the condition of my chimney/stove and an estimate for some recommended repairs. I knew some repairs were needed on the chimney based on feedback from our home inspector, so I wasn't surprised to receive a repair list. I'll wait on the photos they took before I decide whether to go forward with their recommendations. Overall, I was pleased with the service. It would have been nice to have the exterior of the stove wiped down as well, but the interior was squeaky clean when they left, so no complaints here.
