The cleaning went fine. The estimate for repairs seemed high. Then they were quite pushy with their follow-up. I would want to get other estimates.

These guys were amazing! We just purchased the house and it had a lot of work that needed to be done on the chimneys. The house was built in 1936 and I don't think any work had been done on the chimneys, including preventative maintenance since they were originally built. We had actually called them out for a quote prior and received a quote for both our chimneys. The furnace chimney had a giant hole in it that could not be seen from the ground and they provided pictures for us to be able to see exactly what they were seeing. They gave us a great quote for both chimneys and even offered a discount if we booked our appointment before the end of June. Unfortunately we were only in a position to afford one of the chimneys repaired at this time, but we still received a discount for booking. On the day of repair they not only showed up on time, they were early, and got right to work. They were quick and efficient and cleaned up everything before leaving. The next day was sunny day so they came right back out and did the sealing. To top it off, we even received a hand written thank you note in the mail for choosing them. Really can't wait to have them come back out to finish the second chimney and use them for all our future chimney needs!

He arrived on time (a little early) and worked quickly and efficiently. There was no dust or debris left over from the cleaning. But, I had bad news in that both chimneys need repair. He gave me an explanation of the issues, what work was required and what work was optional, and warned me not to use either chimney until repairs had been made. He gave me an itemized estimate that day, breaking it down between chimneys. Unfortunately, other home repairs have come up that are more urgent so I cannot have the repair work done yet, but I will definitely keep them in mind for when I can.

Ekram called before arriving to let me know when he was coming. He arrived at the end of the promised timeframe--but still within the timeframe. He was friendly and thoroughly explained the state of the chimneys and explained recommended maintenance and additional work to perform. Overall, a good experience and I will work with them again in the future.

We bought a house that went through foreclosure and the chimney crown was being held on by a ratchet strap. He came out and gave me a free estimate which was basically an inspection. He was straightforward, said the price to just repair it, gave the estimate to completely rebuild it. He wasn't pushy to do the higher price option, just told me my options. In the end, I chose an option that cost even more because I wanted to put a veneer on it. Still a great price for what I got. Very happy with it. It looks great, much better than just brick. Great customer service. I had to get a chimney repaired in another state to sell our old house and he took the time to explain to me things to ask and watch out for with the other guys estimate. He also took the time to help me find where an old fireplace in our house probably was, because we have two, and I didn't know it, it's sealed behind my husband's office wall. Who knew. He also explained he could tell there was water seeping in because the stone on our fireplace had some white streaks on it. Overall very educational and helpful. Really good service.

I called Powers because the fireplace chimney was in need of repair. ( they were one of the top rated masons on Angie's List.) The top cap was nearly completely gone, there were many loose bricks & cracks and the mortar on the inside of the home was white with efflorescence. We also had a large brick planter that was falling apart and in need of repair. The fellow from Powers arrived on time to give me an estimate. He mentioned that the brick we have is no longer available but they'd do the best they could to match it. I agreed to the bid, and the job was scheduled. I was away when the work was done, but the job was finished two days early. When I returned to the house I was very impressed - the brick looked exactly like the original, in fact the fireplace chimney and planter looked perfect - Had I not known the state of the situation before I would never have known a repair was made. There was no mess or debris, Pretty much a perfect job. Working with Powers was a pleasure and I would definitely recommend or use them again.

The workers were on time and efficient in getting set up and going. Performed the work requested and communicated with me often to let me know how the work was going. They were very good about letting me know about potential additional work explained,in detail, what the trouble was, what was needed to fix it and what my options were. They were timely in getting estimates back and proceeding with the job. All in all I'm pleased with the work and how well it turned out.

The area around the chimney began to leak water around mid December. We called Powers to come out to identify the problem and provide an estimate. I gave them the job. They came out do do the work on the flashing within the week. The office gal Samantha told me afterwards that everything was done so I immediately paid the rest of balance. Within three months, the chimney began leaking again, and the masonry starts to leak a powder (effervescence) in the house. Someone was sent in about 2 weeks and then told me that the cause was that the masonry has not been sealed (which I had already paid for). Their excuse was that it has been raining - but not a single dry day within 3 months!? And within that three months, there had been no effort to schedule a time to seal the chimney nor had there been any efforts or precaution made to prevent moisture absorption until they are able to seal it. The result was rotting drywall in my house, and fungal growth that could have been prevented. 3 months belated, they offered to seal the chimney another day, but when they could not do it, they again neglected to inform me or an schedule another date until I complained of further leaks. They also gave me what they called an effervescence treatment (which was nice of the new office lady), which unfortunately did not work, as white powder continue to form on the masonry into the house. They also said they layered 5 layers of sealant on my chimney last week, yet leaks continue. After close to a 4 month ordeal and back and forth with the company, they declared my chimney 'saturated' since letting it sit without sealant for months in the raining season because they could not find the time. And now they consider their work completed and there is nothing more they can do, except if I hire them again to completely rebuild the saturated chimney. At the end of the day, no problem had been resolved - the chimney continues to leak. They sure did a lot of work, after multiple complaints, but unfortunately it was too late and delivered no end results. All I got were some nice chimney caps, and a bigger problem than I started with. If you hire this company, do yourself a favor and keep them on tight leash. From my own experience, their people are nice, but don't easily equate that as competence, and don't assume the job is done because they say so.

Response from Powers Chimney & Masonry LLC
From the beginning this chimney has been leaking for a lengthy period of time (15-20 years) before he sought out someone to fix it. The customer also put a plastic bag over his chimney including the furnace vent, trapping the carbon monoxide in and around the chimney. When our technician went out he pointed this out to the customer. He cut a hole in the bag to allow the vapors to escape (at no charge) to the customer. He also informed him that this could have allowed the carbon monoxide to be trapped in the home and could have been potentially fatal to his tenants. The counter flashing was bent and not properly installed around the chimney. The crown was cracked, and the mortar had freeze damage. This chimney had years of water intake from not having chimney caps, so we recommended new Stainless Steel (Lifetime Warranty) chimney caps to him. This prevented any more intake of water and animals from nesting in the chimney. This chimney is built out of Arizona Sandstone. It is a very porous material. It began to become more porous and brittle from years of neglect. Then adding the carbon monoxide vapors on top of everything else, this chimney has a very heavy saturation issue. This winter has been a very wet, rainy winter. There was no way for us to be sure about the saturation issue before now due to it always appearing wet from the rain. The water is no longer leaking from the crown, mortar, and flashing alone, but now it is seeping through the bricks themselves. This chimney has been neglected and in need of repairs for about 15-20 years. We went out to [member name removed] property multiple times to inspect and reinspect his chimney. As a courtesy we performed an efflorescence treatment at no charge for him to keep him and his tenants happy. He demanded that we seal the chimney or threatened legal action. We have been explaining for months that it has not been dry for enough for consecutive days until recently to go out and seal the chimney during the winter season. We have explained why the winter is not a good time to seal the chimney. We haven't had any warm enough AND dry enough days that his chimney would be allowed to dry out enough to seal. To make the customer happy we went out on a dry day and spent over 2 hours drying out his chimney with a torch getting it as dry as possible then did 5 times more sealing coats then he paid for. All of this we did at no extra cost to the customer, to do as much as we possibly could to fix the leak. He sent us another email recently saying that the chimney was still leaking. We informed him that the only way to permanently fix the saturation problem is to rebuild his chimney from a less porous material (ex. Brick and Mortar) This is the only way we could guarantee that the chimney would not leak any longer. For Example: If a sponge was held in a bucket of water then you held it up with two fingers at the top of the sponge, gravity would pull all of the water to the bottom of the sponge. The same is happening with this chimney. We cannot take responsibility or liability for the material that this chimney was built out of. This is the Pacific Northwest, a very wet climate. Arizona Sandstone is meant for dry desert areas (hence the name). We exerted extra effort through this entire process and went the extra mile for [member name removed]. We know that landlord situations are touchy. When landlords are told what actually needs to be done, they usually try to go the cheaper route. We are very sorry that the customer feels this way. We do have email and picture documentation from this entire process from start to finish showing the extra effort we have displayed to this customer. We have always held the customers best interest at heart; we even told him about a potentially fatal issue to his tenants on our first visit out there before he even paid us a dime. We even performed work before we were paid as well. Powers Chimney & Masonry takes a lot of pride in its work, and values our integrity. Some people do not always want to hear the truth of the matter when they put things off for a lengthy period of time. They simply want a quick, cheap fix. For example; if a person doesn't brush their teeth for 15-20 years then goes into the dentist. The dentist presents them with a cheaper option for repairs and a more expensive total fix, then the person chooses the cheaper option. When their tooth breaks, is it the dentist's fault that they didn't brush their teeth for so long? We are very apologetic that [member name removed] is still having a leak in his chimney. But we have gone above and beyond our contract with him and what he paid for. We kept in close contact with him via email and phone and went out to his property in Bellevue 8-10 times. We did extra work for the client and performed treatments that we never asked for any compensation for in order to go above and beyond for this customer. We just cannot be held responsible for someone else's neglect and mistreatment of a chimney when we have done out best to fix the chimney at a lesser cost to the customer.

Knowledgeable. Thoroughly explained alternatives. Honest when it came to identifying additional work I did not need. Work was performed the same day as inspection. Also informed me my shakes showed signs of splitting/separating which might lead to future leaks. I was already aware of that and had been taking bids. Response from Powers Chimney & Masonry LLC
The customer is unhappy about her free estimate provided after her chimney was swept. She feels "hoodwinked" because she does not believe that the prep work to perform the desired scope of work is necessary. After speaking with her, she expressed her dislike for items such as power washing to remove algae and moss and sealing her chimneys with water repellent to extend the life of her chimneys. Powers Chimney & Masonry stands firm on the importance of each item addressed on our estimates. We do not cut corners while inspecting/estimating issues and resolutions.
