Description of Work: Nat from Brickliners came to clean our dryer vent. After a thorough inspection, he determined that the ductwork was not up to code, and recommended replacement. We're waiting on a quote for that work, and expect that we will follow through. He was extremely knowledgeable, personable, prompt and courteous.

They were responsible. They had one glitch with the work but they came back quickly to repair it. We were happy with the work. They did good work and I found them knowledgeable. They were good compared to other service providers in the area.
Description of Work: They put in an insulated chimney, installed a stove with heat shields, and they sat a wood burning stove on a piece of granite that was over and inch thick. The piece was around four feet square.

I like them, they do good work and I trust them. Price wise I have not compared. First I used them because I knew of them and they were available. Price was not an issue for me. The way they have their phone staffed is very good. Sometimes it is answered immediately and sometimes they would call back. One time I moved and then they did not have my correct address but they straightened it out very well. Also I trust them. I had hired them to do something that I can't do like seeing my chimney or repair something inside the chimney, I am not there all the time nor do I know how to do it myself, they judge what needs to be done.
Description of Work: Smokestack Lightning LLC has inspected my chimney every year for probably around 10 years.

The work was done to my complete satisfaction. It took a while from the estimate to the actual work, but we needed to wait until the heating season was over.

I believe that they did a good job, time will tell. I haven’t had any leaks since then. They were very prompt and professional. I did get estimates from some other people and their price seemed fair. They didn’t call me back right away. I think they were busy or something.

Having recently moved into my 1997 house I wanted the 2 chimneys swept and inspected before the heating season began. In the end it was determined that few fires have been burned and the chimney flues didn't need a cleaning. However, an inspection was done and some minor repairs were suggested for future consideration. We were charged only a "house call" fee and I though that was reasonable under the circumstances.

This spring, I contacted smokestack lightning for chimney repair. Carter came to the house and gave and estimate of $2344. On July 4th, his mason, Jonathan Brownell. Re-pointed the chimney in one day. His work was excellent. On July 6th, Carter and his helper seated a new liner. Both jobs were wll done.
Description of Work: The chimney was re-pointed by a mason (Jonathan Brownell). Then the men from smokestack lightning inseated a liner.

They did a great job and arrived on time. They were very pleasant and respected my concern about not protecting the room with a chimney that has white furniture in it. In the past people have come in and laid an inch of soot. So they had a big fan and were aware of my concerns. I gave it the white glove test when they were finished and they really did an excellent job. I rate their prices high. I would highly recommend them and will use them again in the future.

Brickliners were very professional, showed up on time and gave us a quote on a new chimney liner. I have no doubt they would have done a great job, but the quote was twice the cost of other local companies. I understand you sometimes "get what you pay for", but in this case I felt the difference in price was too high for similar service. I would recommend considering Brickliners if you need service, but definitely get a quote and shop around for comparison.

They scheduled an afternoon appointment and called about 24 hours ahead to say they could come earlier if we wanted. They were about 15 minutes early. They kept things clean, vacuumed the woodstove and even emptied our ash bucket for us. They adjusted the cap and did not charge extra for that. The price was just what they quoted. They were quick, professional and tidy. This was our second time asking them to help us out and I would definitely do it again.
Description of Work: They swept the flue for our woodstove and adjusted the cap on the same flue,

(Continued from above) Flash forward to Jan. 2010. New wood stove installed by a reputable stove shop. The technicians discovered that the thimble & wall pass-through were installed to the chimney liner with FOIL tape! It was not secured with screws at it should have been, which could have been very dangerous - and caused a fire! That was the straw that broke the camel's back, and prompted me to write this poor review of Brickliners. I was prepared to cut my losses and not refer them to anyone, but when this came to light I had to make sure people knew what they were dealing with. When you mess with my family's safety - that warrants the public knowing about shoddy work. All I can say is buyer beware. UPDATE (05/03/2010) After posing my negative review about Brickliners, the owner - Jake, contacted me directly to apologize for the way the job had gone. He took my criticisms and frustration very seriously, and admitted that a failure in process had occurred. He also discussed with me some of the new protocols he had put in place (since our job was finished) to remedy the issues that i had with the work done in our house. Jake was very serious about getting to the bottom of issues I had discussed so they would not happen again to future clients. He sort of "took it on the chin" in our discussions, but seemed very proactive about the input. He offered some future service and warranty (at no cost) to remedy some of the installation issues and provide a second chance opportunity to make good - which I accepted. The fact that Jake came out to our house, and was very serious about following up on the review I posted shows to me that he is proactive about improving his business. I told Jake that I hoped our job was just a fluke, and he could use the situation as a learning experience - which, I believe he has. It meant a lot to me that Jake was willing to try and right the wrong, and because of that I am going back to his company for future service despite my original experience. Hopefully I will not need to update this post in the future.
Description of Work: (02/09/2010) Hired the company to install a stainless chimney liner, thimble/wall pass-through for a wood stove, chimney sealing, re-pointing, and removal of existing fireplace hearth. UPDATE (05/03/2010) After posting a mostly negative report for Brickliners in February, Jake Loeffler the owner contacted me directly regarding the concerns I shared with the work his company did. We scheduled a time for him to come to my house and inspect the work that was done. He showed up early and un-installed and inspected the stove pipe and chimney liner pass-thru. (Comments 02/09/2010) The chimney liner/pass-through install was pretty annoying. The lead guy who was making the decisions didn't realize that our chimney was on the outside of the exterior wall. When he broke through the brick facade on the inside of our house (where the thimble was going to go) he hit the exterior wall, and then the chimney. When he got to the chimney, through the wall, he thought it was the clay flue liner resting on the house (!). He got spooked and called the owner of the company who told him to stop and contact me before proceeding (which was a good thing). When I got home to inspect I used my Sawzall to cut away part of the wall until I exposed the brick of the chimney... I called them back and informed them that he had hit the brick of the chimney and not the flue liner (!). THE CHIMNEY WAS EXTERIOR TO THE WALL (you would think a mason would know this). He apologized profusely and they were out to the house the following day and installed the liner pass-through. A few weeks went by before they came back to finish the job (was rainy stretch and couldn't re-point and seal the chimney) - finally rescheduled. When they came back to finish the job they started taking out the hearth w/ a jackhammer, but never put up any dust control (!). Our house got COVERED in red brick dust in EVERY room (including upstairs bedrooms). Needless to say we were livid (had a 4 month old baby at the time). We complained and they took off $150 from the final bill so we could hire a cleaner (which could have been avoided if they had used some dust control). At this point we wanted them out. Not sure if the chimney got re-pointed correctly or sealed as it rained the afternoon they did it...

Good. Unfortunatley ,some of the sealant got on various windows of the house and was not noticed until summer, window cleaning. Brickliners rectified the situation without hesitation. (My car that was parked in the drive got spots on it also and I took care of it when I noticed it back in December)

The work was scheduled shortly after I signed the contract, this was very good service. The two person crew, Chad and Kyle, arrived on time, as scheduled. They were courteous, friendly, and professional. They listened to my comments and concerns and answered all my questions. They spread tarps to protect the ground and metal roof. Jake, the owner, arrived to ensure the color in the stucco was satisfactory. The mason, Chad, was very creative in producing a texture for the stucco. They asked me where to dump the dirty water from the cement buckets, this was most kind and thoughtful. This crew did an excellent job. My chimney looks great now (and no ugly flaking bricks).
Description of Work: Bricks on exterior house chimney are deteriorating, many brick faces are flaking off (called scalping) due to water & ice penetration, probably defective or interior brick. Some bricks are half gone. In addition, 3 cement blocks in the chimney foundation (below ground level) have serious erosion due to water and gravel wear. Too expensive to tear down & re-build chimney. Jake, from Brickliners, suggested coating the entire chimney and foundation with FSB (fiberglass cement) and then a coat of stucco. FSB will seal and strength the existing brick and fill in the broken bricks. The stucco will seal, add strength and provide a nice looking finish with texture. Silpro (brand) FSB and California Stucco products were used. The stucco was colored using concentrated mortar color. It took one day to set up the scaffolding and trowel on one coat of FSB and one day to trowel on one coat of stucco and take down the scaffolding. The stucco was randomly troweled to give it a textured look. One section of chimney/roof flashing was replaced. One mason and one tender provided all the labor. The entire chimney was covered with both the FSB and stucco, including the cap and the block foundation. I think this was a excellent job done. My "new" chimney looks great and will survive a long time.

Everything went well. They were cordial on the phone. We made an appointment, and he showed up on the correct morning. He cleaned both woodstove pipes. It is a messy business, but he tried his best to keep our house clean while he did his work. He is polite and informative. The price was fair.
Description of Work: They cleaned two woodstove pipes and inspected each for any problems. Everything asked was explained fully and clearly.
