Grain is a furniture & lighting design company based in Burlington, VT. We are drawn to simple forms that are honest about their history; wood that is native to our part of VT; and discarded materials that have a strong visual form or patina, and are far from the end of their use cycle. This is expressed in three ways: Building pieces based on a central element (found metal, a unique piece of wood) that sparks us to create a one-of-a-kind item. Designing & building our own collections. Designing & building custom commissions, in collaboration with a client, to meet their specific needs. We are in the midst of designing our first furniture collection of tables, stools and benches, designed and built in collaboration with a local metalworker. We are excited to make them available soon at several retail locations in the Burlington area. Our work is currently available at Anjou & the Little Pear in Burlington, VT, and at the gallery at The Shelburne Craft School in Shelburne, VT.Grain is a furniture & lighting design company based in Burlington, VT. If you have any electrical issues at all, contact the knowledgeable and experienced electricians at Reliant Electric Works. Their South Burlington electricians have a comprehensive understanding of electrical appliances and systems and are intimately familiar with all units on the market. When you need help most, they’ll be there for you. Rain, shine, or even during a blizzard, you can count on Reliant Electric Works to fix your broken system or generator. You need power to your medical systems, data storage, refrigeration, and more. In addition, they can install, repair, upgrade, and maintain your generators as they are authorized dealers of Generac and Kohler generators. They understand the importance of having your generator work when it is supposed to. You can sleep well at night knowing that you and your family are in caring and capable hands.

"Reliant Electric serviced my Generac backup generator when it started running continuously even when grid power was working. Nate spent about an hour on a snowy day diagnosing the problem which turned out not to be the “usual” cause, a blown fuse. In the end, he determined that there was a short in the underground control wire but recommended that we wait at least a month for any frozen water in the conduit to thaw before fishing a new wire. He set the generator up so I could start it manually in case of an outage. He returned about six weeks later when the ground was thoroughly thawed and replaced the wire. Sure enough, the old wire had been damaged probably from years of sitting in water and freeze/thaw cycles. He replaced it with a heavier gauge wire and gave me some suggestions for drilling a drain hole in the conduit. He tested the generator to make sure it would start in a power outage and also checked the plugs and valve clearance while he was there just to be certain everything was in good shape. Nate was neat, friendly, informative, completely professional, and most importantly, highly skilled. Reliant is a bit pricey, but for this type of work it pays to have someone with years of experience who was able to diagnose the problem correctly and fix it right the first time."

Lighting services FAQs

Typically, under-cabinet lighting costs about $265 on average, ranging from $230 to $300, depending on the type of lights, fixtures, and amount of electrical work required. Additional cost factors include the removal of old lighting, energy costs related to the type of light bulbs, and the replacement of light bulbs as they burn out.

Here are the average lighting costs by type:

  • LED Puck Lights: $25 per fixture

  • LED Strip Lights: $20 per 8-foot strip

  • Xenon Fixtures: $50 per unit

  • Fluorescent Lighting: $12 to $50 per unit

On average, the cost to install a light fixture is about $550, ranging from about $160 to $950, depending on the number of lights and the type of light bulbs and fixtures. You should consider other cost factors like your home’s location, electrical and drywall work required to install the fixture, and removal of old fixtures when creating a budget for this project. Keep in mind that replacing a light fixture typically costs less than installing one for the first time.

Recessed lighting installation costs about $360 on average, with a typical price range between $100 and $480, depending on labor cost in your area, required wiring, and the type of bulb. The cost to hire an electrician to install recessed lighting is typically $200 to $250 per fixture. If your electrical pro charges per hour, expect to pay $85 to $105 per hour for this service. Other cost factors include:

  • Ceiling material

  • Housing type

  • Trim type

  • Bulb type

  • Materials

  • Accessibility

  • Permits

You should hire a licensed electrician who is insured to perform any electrical work on your home, including lighting installation. States have different requirements for licensing and certifying electricians, so use Angi’s state licensing tool to review local guidelines.

Here are a few questions to ask electricians before hiring:

  • How many years of electrical experience do you have?

  • Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • Do you work with subcontractors?

  • Do you provide a guarantee or warranty on your work?

  • What is the timeline for completion?

  • How do you handle change orders?

  • Can you provide at least three customer references?

Several types of light fixtures are available, each requiring different installation techniques. Keep in mind that you’ll need to hire a lighting specialist to install the majority of these fixture types.

Here are some of the most common light fixture options:

  • Ceiling-mounted fixtures: $90–$230

  • Pendant lights: $95–$250

  • Chandeliers: $300–$2,000

  • Track lighting: $100–$250

  • Wall-mounted lights: $90–$250

  • Fluorescent lights: $85–$220

  • Light bars: $330–$440
