They did a great job. Were very responsive to my emails and questions. Coordinated well with other contractors that were doing work. Cleaned up after themselves. They did spray foam in the walls, roof, basement, and waterproofed the crawlspace.

Description of Work: Building Energy installed our solar photovoltaic system, and I would use them again in an instant. They were consistently professional, responsive, helpful, and punctual. Their price for the array installation was very competitive. They continue to be prompt and helpful when we have questions or concerns.

Very well. They arrived on time, set up the blower and inspected all areas of the house. I received an itemized list of recommended improvements with cost estimates, two weeks later.
Description of Work: Performed an energy audit report. Used a blower that fit over the front door to check for leaks in the building envelope. I was directed to them by Efficiency Vermont. I received a $100 rebate from Efficiency Vermont towards the $400 bill from Building Energy.

foundation repair

Scott Gardner provided a quote to replace a crumbling stone foundation with a slab foundation. At one point I met with Scott and the owners of the plumbing and electrical contractors he uses. Scott brought along a man who works for him who was not part of the conversation but was there to take measurements. My only non-negotiable request was that the work be done before Thanksgiving because my elderly mother would be visiting for a week or two as of then. I was told there would be no problem at all. They just had to wrap up one other job, which was to be done by September 1. Scott informed me that this measurement man was going to be the project manager (I learned it was because he lived nearer, not because of, say, he was suitable to the job.) He and I had two long conversations at the house, reviewing the work, and me asking him a dozen or so questions. Most of which he needed to get back to me. We were in agreement in June. The project kept being pushed back. I reminded the project manager that it needed to be done by Thanksgiving. I asked for the questions to be answered. They were not. Finally, late October, I was told they would start around November 11. I told the "project manager" it was too late and to forget it. This authorized efficiency company intended to use heaters to heat the foundation as it was being worked on in the late stages of autumn and early winter as the project manager told me when I told him it was too late. No concern for my requirement it be done by Thanksgiving. Turned out they booked additional jobs between the one that was supposed to be wrapped up by September 1 so they could start on my house. My questions? Never answered. In fact, forgotten. At one point, after multiple attempts to get answers, the project manager responded that if I had questions I just needed to ask and he'd answer them. I reminded him for the third or fourth time I had asked the questions in person over the summer, and he wrote them down. In short: Scott seemed like a really good person to work with. I liked his subcontractors when we met. He had my complete faith. But he apparently never had any intention on completing my foundation before Thanksgiving and handed a $50,000+ complex project to someone who couldn't keep track of notes from a two-hour meeting.
Description of Work: Quoted for foundation replacement.

Building Energy preformed and energy audit for me. They recommended doing work that made no impact on the efficiency of my home. Their bid for the work was twice other bids. I had another licensed contractor do the work for $3,000. When the results showed no change, they suggested I give Building Energy another $4,000 to insulate other areas of the home, because I shouldn't have used another company. They just want to the work and want to over charge me for the work.

Smart alec, know-it-all foreman. Tried to get us to remove vermiculite that they failed to find despite a full two-day inspection. Took much longer than estimated. Aside from the foreman the crew consisted of nice guys, and the Boss overrode the foreman on the vericulite, which they ultimately removed. I would definitely look for another provider, as this experience left a really bad taste in my mouth.
Description of Work: Inspect and test house for air leaks, heat outflow etc. Install insulation to remediate problems. Blew in foam into virtually every place that was accessible. In the process encountered vermiculite, which they initially suggested we remove. Only after observing that they had ample opportunity to discover the vermiculite during their 2 day inspection did they admit some fault o their part and removed it. Final cleanup was, in our opinion, inadequate.
